YK-51-1Yuddha Kanda 51.1

तेषांसुतुमुलंशब्दंवानराणांतरस्विनाम् । नर्दतांराक्षसैस्सार्धंतदाशुश्रावरावणः ।।6.51.1।।

teṣāṃsutumulṃśabdṃvānarāṇāṃtarasvinām | nardatāṃrākṣasaissārdhṃtadāśuśrāvarāvaṇḥ ||6.51.1||

Translation

तदा then, तरस्विनाम् courageous, नर्दताम् increasing, तेषांवानराणाम् by those Vanaras, सुतुमुलम् tumultuous noise, शब्दम् sound, रावणः Ravana, राक्षसैःसार्धम् all Rakshasas, शुश्राव heard.

Meaning

Then Ravana and all the Rakshasas heard the increasing and highly tumultuous sound made by the courageous Vanaras.

YK-51-2Yuddha Kanda 51.2

स्निग्धगम्भीरनिर्घोषंश्रुत्वासनिनदंभृशम् । सचिवानांततस्तेषांमध्येवचनमब्रवीत् ।।6.51.2।।

snigdhagambhīranirghoṣṃśrutvāsaninadṃbhṛśam | sacivānāṃtatasteṣāṃmadhyevacanamabravīt ||6.51.2||

Translation

ततः thereafter, सः he, स्निग्धगम्भीरनिर्घोषम् deep and loud sound, निनदम् roaring, भृशम् swiftly, श्रुत्वा having heard, तेषाम् to them, सचिवानाम् ministers, मध्ये midst, वचनम् words, अब्रवीत् spoke.

Meaning

Thereafter, hearing the loud and deep sounds of roaring and seeing his (Ravana's) ministers in the midst, he spoke as follows.

YK-51-3-4Yuddha Kanda 51.3–4 (युग्मम्)

यथाऽसौसम्प्रहृष्टानांवानराणांसमुत्थितः । बहूनांसुमहान्नादोमेघनामिवगर्जिताम् ।।6.51.3।। व्यक्तंसुमहतीप्रीतिरेतेषांनात्रसंशयः । तथाहिविपुलैर्नादैश्चुक्षुभेवरुणालयः ।।6.51.4।।

yathā'sausamprahṛṣṭānāṃvānarāṇāṃsamutthitḥ | bahūnāṃsumahānnādomeghanāmivagarjitām ||6.51.3|| vyaktṃsumahatīprītireteṣāṃnātrasṃśayḥ | tathāhivipulairnādaiścukṣubhevaruṇālayḥ ||6.51.4||

Translation

सम्प्रहृष्टानाम् very happy, बहूनाम् many of them, वानराणाम् Vanaras, समुत्थित collected:, सुमहान् very great, असौ such, नादः sound, गर्जताम् roaring, मेघानामिव like thunder of rumbling clouds, यथा just as, श्रूयते, सुव्यक्तम् , एतेषाम् by that, प्रीतिः happiness, सुमहती huge, अत्र there, संशयः doubt, न no, तथाहि for that reason, विपुलैः wide, नादैः noise, वरुणालयः ocean, चुक्षुभे agitated.

Meaning

"Many Vanaras have collected together and roared making loud noises just as thunder rumbling clouds. By that there is no doubt that they are very happy. For that reason, even the wide ocean is agitated."

YK-51-5Yuddha Kanda 51.5

तौतुबद्धौशरैस्तीक्ष्णैर्भ्रातरौरामलक्ष्मणौ । अयंचसुमहान्नादशङ्कांजनयतीवमे ।।6.51.5।।

tautubaddhauśaraistīkṣṇairbhrātaraurāmalakṣmaṇau | ayṃcasumahānnādaśaṅkāṃjanayatīvame ||6.51.5||

Translation

भ्रातरौ brothers, तौरामलक्ष्मणौ Rama and Lakshmana, तीक्ष्णैः sharp, शरैः arrows, बद्धौ are bound, सुमहान् great, अयंनादः such sound I hear, मे to me, शङ्काम् doubt, जनयतीव in my mind.

Meaning

"The two brothers Rama and Lakshmana are bound by sharp arrows. By the loud noise that I hear I doubt in my mind!"

YK-51-6Yuddha Kanda 51.6

एतत्तुवचनंचोक्त्वामन्त्रिणोराक्षसेश्वरः । उवाचनैरृतांस्तत्रसमीपपरिवर्तिनः ।।6.51.6।।

etattuvacanṃcoktvāmantriṇorākṣaseśvarḥ | uvācanairṛtāṃstatrasamīpaparivartinḥ ||6.51.6||

Translation

राक्षसेश्वरः Lord of Rakshasas, मन्त्रिणः to ministers, एतत्तु such, वचनम् words, तु you, उक्त्वा having spoken, तत्र there, समीपपरिवर्तिनः waiting near, नैरृतान् to Rakshasas, उवाच said.

Meaning

Having spoken like that to the ministers, the Lord of Rakshasas said to the Rakshasas who stood waiting close by.

YK-51-7Yuddha Kanda 51.7

ज्ञायतांतूर्णमेतेषांसर्वेषांचवनचारिणाम् । शोककालेसमुत्पन्नहर्षकारणमुत्थितम् ।।6.51.7।।

jñāyatāṃtūrṇameteṣāṃsarveṣāṃcavanacāriṇām | śokakālesamutpannaharṣakāraṇamutthitam ||6.51.7||

Translation

एतेषाम् for what reason, सर्वेषाम् all of them, वनचारिणाम् rangers of woods, शोककाले in the time for grief, समुत्पन्न arisen, तूर्णम् speedily, हर्षकारणमुत्थितम् reason for rejoicing, ज्ञायताम् be found out.

Meaning

"For what reason are the Vanaras (rangers of woods) rejoicing that way in the time of grief? It may be found out speedily."

YK-51-8-9Yuddha Kanda 51.8–9 (युग्मम्)

तथोक्तास्तेनसम्भ्रान्ताःप्राकारमधिरुह्यच । ददृशुःपालितांसेनांसुग्रीवेणमहात्मना ।।6.51.8।। तौचमुक्तौसुघोरेणशरबन्धेनराघवौ । समुत्थितौमहाभागौविषेदुःप्रेक्ष्यराक्षसाः ।।6.51.9।।

tathoktāstenasambhrāntāḥprākāramadhiruhyaca | dadṛśuḥpālitāṃsenāṃsugrīveṇamahātmanā ||6.51.8|| taucamuktausughoreṇaśarabandhenarāghavau | samutthitaumahābhāgauviṣeduḥprekṣyarākṣasāḥ ||6.51.9||

Translation

तथा as, उक्ताः having said, ते his, नसम्भ्रान्ताः bewildered, प्राकारम् the boundary wall, अधिरुह्य scaling, महात्मना great, सुग्रीवेण to Sugriva, पालिताम् protected by, सेनाम् army, सुघोरेण at a distance, शरबन्धेन bound by arrows, मुक्तौ relieved, समुत्थितौ happy, महाभागौ prosperous, तौराघवौ them, the Raghavas, ददृशुः beheld, प्रेक्षराक्षसाः Rakshasas saw, विषेदुः worried.

Meaning

Ravana having said so, the bewildered Rakshasas scaling the boundary wall beheld the army protected by great Sugriva and the prosperous Raghavas relieved from arrows and happy, he became worried.

YK-51-10Yuddha Kanda 51.10

सन्त्रस्तहृदयाःसर्वेप्राकारात् वरुह्यते । विषण्णवदनाघोराराक्षसेन्द्रमुपस्थिता ।।6.51.10।।

santrastahṛdayāḥsarveprākārāt varuhyate | viṣaṇṇavadanāghorārākṣasendramupasthitā ||6.51.10||

Translation

घोराः dreadful, सर्वे all, तेवदनाः their countenance, सन्त्रस्तहृदयाः frightened at heart, विषण्णाः pale faces, प्राकारात् boundary, अवरुह्य getting down, राक्षसेन्द्रम् to the Lord of Rakshasas, उपस्थिताः reached.

Meaning

All the dreadful Rakshasas getting down the boundary wall with pale faces, sad countenance reached the Lord of Rakshasas.

YK-51-11Yuddha Kanda 51.11

तदप्रियंदीनमुखारावणस्यनिशाचराः । कृत्स्नंनिवेदयामासुर्यथावद्वाक्यकोविदाः ।।6.51.11।।

tadapriyṃdīnamukhārāvaṇasyaniśācarāḥ | kṛtsnṃnivedayāmāsuryathāvadvākyakovidāḥ ||6.51.11||

Translation

वाक्यकोविदाः capable of talking, निशाचराः Rakshasas, दीनमुखाः desperate, अप्रियम् unpleasant, तत् those, कृत्स्नम् dark, यथावत् as it is, रावणस्य to Ravana, न्यवेदयन् presented.

Meaning

Rakshasas who were well versed in talking, desperately conveyed the unpleasantness as it is to Ravana.

YK-51-12-13Yuddha Kanda 51.12–13 (युग्मम्)

यौताविन्द्रजितायुद्धेभ्रातरौरामलक्ष्मणौ । निबद्धौशरबन्धेननिष्प्रकम्पभुजौकृतौ ।।6.51.12।। विमुक्तौशरबन्धेनदृश्येतेतौरणाजिरे । पाशानिवगजौछित्वागजेन्द्रसमविक्रमौ ।।6.51.13।।

yautāvindrajitāyuddhebhrātaraurāmalakṣmaṇau | nibaddhauśarabandhenaniṣprakampabhujaukṛtau ||6.51.12|| vimuktauśarabandhenadṛśyetetauraṇājire | pāśānivagajauchitvāgajendrasamavikramau ||6.51.13||

Translation

युद्धे in the battlefield, इन्द्रजिता by Indrajith, भ्रातरौ brothers, यौ those, रामलक्ष्मणौ Rama and Lakshmana, शरबन्धेन from the bondage of arrows, निबद्धौ have been set free, निष्प्रकम्पभुजौ shoulders relieved, कृतौ done, गजेन्द्रसमविक्रमौ powerful elephants, तौ they, पाशान् rope, छित्वा snapped, गजौइव like elephants, रणाजिरे like elephant heroes, दृश्येते are seen.

Meaning

"The two brothers, Rama and Lakshmana, who are like powerful elephants have been set free from the bondage of arrows of Indrajith in the battlefield. Their shoulders are relieved and are like elephants snapped off the rope binding them."

YK-51-14Yuddha Kanda 51.14

तच्छ्रुत्वावचनंतेषांराक्षसेन्द्रोमहाबलः । चिन्तारोषसमाक्रान्तोविषण्णवदनोऽभवत् ।।6.51.14।।

tacchrutvāvacanṃteṣāṃrākṣasendromahābalḥ | cintāroṣasamākrāntoviṣaṇṇavadano'bhavat ||6.51.14||

Translation

महाबलः of mighty prowess, राक्षसेन्द्रः Rakshasa king, तेषाम् by that, तत् वचनम् those words, श्रुत्वा hearing, चिन्तारोषसमाक्रान्तः very worried and enraged, विषण्णवदनः pale face, अभवत् remained.

Meaning

The Rakshasa king endowed with mighty prowess became pale in face, worried and enraged on hearing the words of Rakshasas.

YK-51-15-16Yuddha Kanda 51.15–16 (युग्मम्)

घोरैर्दत्तवरैर्भद्धौशरैराशीविषोपमैः । अमोघैस्सूर्यसङ्काशैःप्रमथ्येन्द्रजितायुधि ।।6.51.15।। तदस्त्रबन्धमासाद्ययदिमुक्तौरिपूमम । संशयस्थमिदंसर्वमनुपश्याम्यहंबलम् ।।6.51.16।।

ghorairdattavarairbhaddhauśarairāśīviṣopamaiḥ | amoghaissūryasaṅkāśaiḥpramathyendrajitāyudhi ||6.51.15|| tadastrabandhamāsādyayadimuktauripūmama | sṃśayasthamidṃsarvamanupaśyāmyahṃbalam ||6.51.16||

Translation

घोरैः dreadful, दत्तवरैः blessed with boons, आशीविषोपमैः like sharp poisonous snakes, अमोघैः amazing, सूर्यसङ्काशैः bright like the sun, शरैः arrows, युधि in battle, प्रमध्य violently, इन्द्रजिता by Indrajith, बद्धौ bound by, ममरिपू our enemies, तत् that, अस्त्रबन्धम् bondage by the arrows, आसाद्य formidable, मुक्तौयदि to liberate, इदम् this, सर्वम् everything, बलम् army, संशयस्थम् doubt, अहम् I am, अनुपश्यामि perceive.

Meaning

"My enemies who are bound by the formidable and unfailing, sharp, poisonous and bright arrows like the sun of Indrajith blessed with boons, are liberated from the bondage! I doubt if my army is in danger!"

YK-51-17Yuddha Kanda 51.17

निष्फलाःखलुसम्वृत्ताश्शराःवासुकितेजसः । अदत्तंयैस्तुसङ्ग्रामेरिपूणांजीवितंमम ।।6.51.17।।

niṣphalāḥkhalusamvṛttāśśarāḥvāsukitejasḥ | adattṃyaistusaṅgrāmeripūṇāṃjīvitṃmama ||6.51.17||

Translation

तैः they, सङ्ग्रामे in battlefield, मम me, रिपूणाम् enemies, जीवितम् life, अदत्तम् taken away, वासुकितेजसः of equal brilliance as Vasuki, शराः arrows, निष्फलाः wasted, सम्वृत्ताःखलु become in fructuous now.

Meaning

"My arrows which are equal in brilliance to Vasuki by which my enemies' life was taken away has become in fructuous now."

YK-51-18Yuddha Kanda 51.18

एवमुक्त्वातुसङ्क्रुद्धोनिश्श्वसन्नुरगोयथा । अब्रवीद्रक्षसांमध्येधूम्राक्षंनामराक्षसम् ।।6.51.18।।

evamuktvātusaṅkruddhoniśśvasannuragoyathā | abravīdrakṣasāṃmadhyedhūmrākṣṃnāmarākṣasam ||6.51.18||

Translation

एवम् in that way, उक्त्वा having said, सङ्क्रुद्धः enraged, यथा just like, निश्श्वसन् hissing, रक्षसाम् Rakshasa, मध्ये midst, धूम्राक्षंनाम called Dhumraksha, राक्षसम् Rakshasa, अब्रवीत् said.

Meaning

Having said so, hissing Ravana called Dhumraksha to the midst.

YK-51-19Yuddha Kanda 51.19

बलेनमहतायुक्तोराक्षसैर्भीमविक्रमः । त्वंवधायाभिनिर्याहिरामस्यसहवानरैः ।।6.51.19।।

balenamahatāyuktorākṣasairbhīmavikramḥ | tvṃvadhāyābhiniryāhirāmasyasahavānaraiḥ ||6.51.19||

Translation

भीमविक्रमः of fierce prowess, त्वम् you, महता huge, बलेन army, राक्षसैः of Rakshasas, युक्तः able, वानरैःसह along with Vanaras, रामस्य and Rama also, वधाय destroying, अभि now, निर्याहि commanded.

Meaning

"Dhumraksha of fierce prowess, you along with a huge Rakshasa army go just now to destroy Rama along with able Vanaras."

YK-51-20Yuddha Kanda 51.20

एवमुक्तस्तुधूम्राक्षोराक्षसेन्द्रेणधीमता । कृत्वाप्रणामंसम्हृष्टोनिर्जगामनृपालयत् ।।6.51.20।।

evamuktastudhūmrākṣorākṣasendreṇadhīmatā | kṛtvāpraṇāmṃsamhṛṣṭonirjagāmanṛpālayat ||6.51.20||

Translation

धीमता Intelligent, राक्षसेन्द्रेण by the Lord of Rakshasas, एवम् in that manner, उक्तः ordered by, धूम्राक्षः Dhumraksha, प्रणाम् prayers, कृत्वा having offered, नृपालयत् from the king, सम्हृष्ट: joyful, निर्जगाम went from there.

Meaning

Commanded by the Intelligent king of Rakshasas in that manner, Dhumraksha offered prayers and went from there joyfully.

YK-51-21Yuddha Kanda 51.21

अभिनिष्क्रम्यतदद्वारंबलाध्यक्षमुवाचह । त्वरयस्वबलंतूर्णंकिंचिरेणयुयुत्सतः ।।6.51.21।।

abhiniṣkramyatadadvārṃbalādhyakṣamuvācaha | tvarayasvabalṃtūrṇṃkiṃcireṇayuyutsatḥ ||6.51.21||

Translation

तद् thereafter, द्वारम् from the gateway, अभिनिष्क्रम्य went from there, बलाध्यक्षम् commander inchief of the army, उवाचह said so, तूर्णम् Instantly, बलम् army, युयुत्सतः get ready, त्वरयस्व speedily, चिरेण delay, किम् why.

Meaning

There after Dhumraksha went from the gateway and said to the CommanderinChief of the army" Get ready immediately and start quickly. Why delay?"

YK-51-22Yuddha Kanda 51.22

धूम्राक्षवचनंश्रुत्वाबलाध्यक्षोबलानुगः । बलमुद्योजयामासरावणस्याज्ञयाद्रुतम् ।।6.51.22।।

dhūmrākṣavacanṃśrutvābalādhyakṣobalānugḥ | balamudyojayāmāsarāvaṇasyājñayādrutam ||6.51.22||

Translation

बलानुगः large army contingent, बलाध्यक्षः CommanderinChief of army, धूम्राक्षवचनम् Dhumraksha's words, श्रुत्वा on hearing, रावणस्य Ravana's, आज्ञया by the order, द्रुतम् quickly, बलम् army, उद्योजयामास got ready.

Meaning

On hearing the words of Dhumraksha, the CommanderinChief of the large army, he got ready quickly by the order of Ravana.

YK-51-23Yuddha Kanda 51.23

तेबद्धघण्टाबलिनोघोररूपानिशाचराः । विगर्जमानास्सम्हृष्टाधूम्राक्षंपर्यवारयन् ।।6.51.23।।

tebaddhaghaṇṭābalinoghorarūpāniśācarāḥ | vigarjamānāssamhṛṣṭādhūmrākṣṃparyavārayan ||6.51.23||

Translation

बद्धघण्टाः bound with girdles of bells, बलिनः mighty, घोररूपाः of fierce, तेनिशाचराः the Rakshasa, विगर्जमाना roaring, सम्हृष्टाः joyfully, धूम्राक्षम् with Dhumraksha, पर्यवारयन् surrounded.

Meaning

Mighty army bound with girdles of bells to their waist, of fierce form roaring surrounded Dhumraksha joyfully.

YK-51-24-25Yuddha Kanda 51.24–25 (युग्मम्)

विविधायुधहस्ताश्चशूलमुद्गरपाणयः । गदाभिःपट्टसैर्दण्डैरायसैर्मुसलैर्भृशम् ।।6.51.24।। परिघैर्भिण्डिवालैश्चभल्लैप्रासै: परश्वथै: । निर्ययूराक्षसादिभ्योनर्धन्तोजलदायथा ।।6.51.25।।

vividhāyudhahastāścaśūlamudgarapāṇayḥ | gadābhiḥpaṭṭasairdaṇḍairāyasairmusalairbhṛśam ||6.51.24|| parighairbhiṇḍivālaiścabhallaiprāsai: paraśvathai: | niryayūrākṣasādibhyonardhantojaladāyathā ||6.51.25||

Translation

जलदायथा like rain clouds, नर्दन्तः roaring, घोराः dreadful, राक्षसाः Rakshasas, विविधायुधहस्ताश्च holding different kinds of weapons, शूलमुद्गरपाणयः tridents, spikes, गदाभिः maces too, पट्टसै: iron spears, दण्डैः rods, आयसैः armour, मुसलैरपि even clubs, परिघैः iron bars, भिण्डिवापालैश्च slings use for hurling stones, भल्लैः arrows, प्रासै: darts, परश्वधैः in thousands, निर्ययुः set out.

Meaning

The dreadful Rakshasas set out roaring like rain clouds armed with different kinds of weapons, like tridents, darts, maces, spears, iron bars, rods, even clubs, spears and slings, arrows in thousands.

YK-51-26-27Yuddha Kanda 51.26–27 (युग्मम्)

रथैःकवचिनस्त्वन्येध्वजैश्चसमलङ्कृतैः । सुवर्णजालविहितैःखरैश्चविविधाननैः ।।6.51.26।। हयैःपरमशीघ्रैश्चगजैश्चैवमदोत्कटैः । निर्ययुर्नैरृतव्याघ्राव्याघ्राइवदुरासदाः ।।6.51.27।।

rathaiḥkavacinastvanyedhvajaiścasamalaṅkṛtaiḥ | suvarṇajālavihitaiḥkharaiścavividhānanaiḥ ||6.51.26|| hayaiḥparamaśīghraiścagajaiścaivamadotkaṭaiḥ | niryayurnairṛtavyāghrāvyāghrāivadurāsadāḥ ||6.51.27||

Translation

अन्ये and others, कवचिनः holding shields, ध्वजैः flags, समलङ्कृतैः collected together, सुवर्णजालविहितैः with golden mesh, विविधाननैः many kinds, खरैश्च donkeys, रथैः chariots, परमशीघ्रैः very fast, हयैश्च horses also, मदोत्कटैः maddened, गजैश्चैव and elephants, व्याघ्राःइव like tigers, and horses दुरासदाः frightful, निर्ययुर्नैरृतव्याघ्रा fearless like tigers, निर्ययुः set out.

Meaning

And others collected together holding shields, fearless like tigers, frightful in appearance, mounted on fast horses, chariots yoked to donkeys of different kinds covered with gold mesh, on maddened elephants Set out.

YK-51-28Yuddha Kanda 51.28

वृकसिंहमुखैर्युक्तंखरैःकनकभूषणै: । आरुरोहरथंदिव्यंधूम्राक्षःखरनिस्स्वनः ।।6.51.28।।

vṛkasiṃhamukhairyuktṃkharaiḥkanakabhūṣaṇai: | āruroharathṃdivyṃdhūmrākṣḥkharanissvanḥ ||6.51.28||

Translation

खरनिःस्वनः of frightful tone, धूम्राक्षः Dhumraksha, वृकसिंहमुखैः having faces like lion and bear, कनकभूषणै: adorned with gold, खरैः donkeys, युक्तम् yoked, दिव्यम् awesome, रथम् chariots, आरुरोह mounted.

Meaning

Dhumraksha of frightful tone mounted on a chariot adorned with gold yoked to donkeys with lion and bear like faces.

YK-51-29Yuddha Kanda 51.29

सनिर्यातोमहावीर्योधूम्राक्षोराक्षसैर्वृतः । प्रहसन्पश्चिमद्वारंहनुमान्यत्रयूथपः ।।6.51.29।।

saniryātomahāvīryodhūmrākṣorākṣasairvṛtḥ | prahasanpaścimadvārṃhanumānyatrayūthapḥ ||6.51.29||

Translation

महावीर्यः heroic, सःधूम्राक्षः Dhumraksha, राक्षसैः Rakshasas, वृतः surrounded by, प्रहसन् laughing, यत्र there, हनूमान् Hanuman, यूधपः taken position, पश्चिमद्वारं west gate, निर्यातः set forth.

Meaning

Heroic Rakshasa, Dhumraksha surrounded by rakshasas set forth laughing to the west gate where Hanuman stood.

YK-51-30Yuddha Kanda 51.30

रथप्रवरमास्थायखरयुक्तंखरस्वनम् । प्रयान्तंतुमहाघोरंराक्षसंभीमदर्शनम् ।।6.51.30।। अन्तरिक्षगताःघोराशकुनाःप्रत्यषेधयन् ।

rathapravaramāsthāyakharayuktṃkharasvanam | prayāntṃtumahāghorṃrākṣasṃbhīmadarśanam ||6.51.30|| antarikṣagatāḥghorāśakunāḥpratyaṣedhayan |

Translation

खरयुक्तम् yoked to donkeys, खरस्वनम् braying like donkeys, रथप्रवरम् chariot, आस्थाय mounting, प्रयान्तम् while going, महाघोरम् terrible, भीमदर्शनम् fearful appearance, राक्षसम् at the Rakshasa, अन्तरिक्षागताः going to the sky, घोराः fierce, शकुनाः birds, प्रत्यषेधयन् stood before.

Meaning

While the Rakshasa was mounted on the chariot and going braying like a donkey, a fearful bird going in the sky stood before his chariot.

YK-51-31Yuddha Kanda 51.31

रथशीर्षेमहान्भीमोगृध्रश्चनिपपातह ।।6.51.31।। ध्वजाग्रेग्रथिताश्चैवनिपेतुःकुणपाशनाः ।

rathaśīrṣemahānbhīmogṛdhraścanipapātaha ||6.51.31|| dhvajāgregrathitāścaivanipetuḥkuṇapāśanāḥ |

Translation

रुधिरार्द्रोमहान् श्वेतःकबन्धःपतितोभुवि ।।6.51.32।। विस्वरंचोत्सृजन्नादंधूम्राक्षस्यसमीपतः । ववर्षरुधिरंदेवस्सञ्चचालचमेदिनी ।।6.51.33।।

Translation

रुधिरार्द्रः drenched in blood, श्वेतः white, महान् great, कबन्धः bird, विस्वरम् discordant cry, नादम् sound, उत्सृजन् heard, धूम्राक्षस्य at Dhumraksha, समीपतः nearby, भुवि on ground, पतितः fell, देवः Deva, रुधिरम् , blood, ववर्ष rained, मेदिनी on earth.

Meaning

A trunk of a white bird drenched in blood sounding discordant fell near by Dhumraksha. It appeared like a rain god shedding blood on the ground.

YK-51-34Yuddha Kanda 51.34

प्रतिलोमंवनौवायुर्निर्घातसमनिस्वनः । तिमिरौघवृतास्तत्रदिशश्चनचकाशिरे ।।6.51.34।।

pratilomṃvanauvāyurnirghātasamanisvanḥ | timiraughavṛtāstatradiśaścanacakāśire ||6.51.34||

Translation

निर्घातसमनिस्वनः thunder like roar, वायुः wind, प्रतिलोमम् adversely, ववौ blew, तत्र there, दिशः directions, तिमिरौघवृताः darkness pervaded, नचकाशिरे directions could not be discerned.

Meaning

Thunder like roar was heard. Wind blew adversely. Darkness pervaded, and directions could not be seen.

सतूत्पातांस्तदादृष्टवाराक्षसानांभयावहान् । प्रादुर्भूतान्सुघोरांश्चधूम्राक्षोव्यथितोऽभवत् ।।6.51.35।। मुमुहूराक्षसाःसर्वेधूम्राक्षस्यपुरस्सराः ।

satūtpātāṃstadādṛṣṭavārākṣasānāṃbhayāvahān | prādurbhūtānsughorāṃścadhūmrākṣovyathito'bhavat ||6.51.35|| mumuhūrākṣasāḥsarvedhūmrākṣasyapurassarāḥ |

Translation

राक्षसानाम् Rakshasas, भयावहान् feared, तदा then, प्रादुद्भूतान् manifesting deities, घोरान् dreadful, उत्पातान् generated, दृष्टवा seeing, धूम्राक्षः Dhumraksha, व्यथितः worried, अभवत् became, धूम्राक्षस्य Dhumraksha's, पुरःसराः in front, सर्वे all, राक्षसाः Rakshasas, मुमुहुः lost consciousness.

Meaning

Then Rakshasa feared seeing the dreadful manifestation and got worried. All the Rakshasas walking in front of Dhumraksha lost consciousness.

ततःसुभीमोबहुभिर्निशाचरैर्वृतोऽभिनिष्क्रम्यरणोत्सुकोबली । ददर्शतांराघवबाहुपालितांमहौघकल्पांबहुवानरींचमूम् ।।6.51.36।।

tatḥsubhīmobahubhirniśācarairvṛto'bhiniṣkramyaraṇotsukobalī | dadarśatāṃrāghavabāhupālitāṃmahaughakalpāṃbahuvānarīṃcamūm ||6.51.36||

Translation

ततः thereafter, सुभीमः very powerful, बली strong, बहुभिः many, निशाचरैः Rakshasas, वृतः surrounding, रणोत्सुकः enthusiastic of war, अभिनिष्क्रम्य, राघवबाहुपालिताम् protected by Raghava, महौघकल्पाम् universal dissolution, बहुवानरीम् many Vanaras, तांचमूम् the army, ददर्श beheld.

Meaning

Thereafter many strong and powerful Rakshasas surrounding Dhumraksha, who was enthusiastic about war, beheld many Vanaras protected by Raghava like at universal dissolution. ।। इत्यार्षेवाल्मीकीयेश्रीमद्रामायणेआदिकाव्येयुद्धकाण्डेएकपञ्चाशस्सर्गः ।। This is the end of the fifty first sarga of Yuddha Kanda of the first epic the holy Ramayana composed by sage Valmiki.
