YK-52-1Yuddha Kanda 52.1

धूम्राक्षंप्रेक्ष्यनिर्यान्तंराक्षसंभीमविक्रमम् । विनेदुर्वानरास्सर्वेप्रहृष्टायुद्धकाङ् क्षिणः ।।6.52.1।।

dhūmrākṣṃprekṣyaniryāntṃrākṣasṃbhīmavikramam | vinedurvānarāssarveprahṛṣṭāyuddhakāṅ kṣiṇḥ ||6.52.1||

Translation

निर्यान्तम् returning, भीमविक्रमम् of terrible prowess, राक्षसम् Rakshasas, धूम्राक्षम् Dhumraksha, वीक्ष्य seeing, सर्वे all, वानराः Vanaras, युद्धकाङ् क्षिणः desirous to wage war, प्रहृष्टाः rejoicing, विनेदुः made loud noise.

Meaning

Seeing Dhumraksha of terrible prowess returning, the vanaras made loud noises out of joy and desire to wage war.

YK-52-2Yuddha Kanda 52.2

तेषांसुतुमुलंयुद्धंसञ्जज्ञेकपिरक्षसाम् । अन्योन्यंपादपैर्घोरंनिघ्नतांशूलमुद्गरैः ।।6.52.2।।

teṣāṃsutumulṃyuddhṃsañjajñekapirakṣasām | anyonyṃpādapairghorṃnighnatāṃśūlamudgaraiḥ ||6.52.2||

Translation

घोरैः terrible, पादपैः trees, शूलमुद्गरैः tridents and clubs, अन्योन्यम् one another, निघ्नताम् , तेषाम् in that way, कपिरक्षसाम् between the Vanaras and Rakshasas, सुतुमुलम् tumultuous, युद्धम् war, संजज्ञे happened.

Meaning

Tumultuous war took place between Vanaras and Rakshasas, striking one another, monkeys with terrible trees and Rakshasas with tridents and clubs.

YK-52-3Yuddha Kanda 52.3

राक्षसैर्वानराघोराविनिकृत्तस्समन्ततः । वानरैराक्षसाश्चापिद्रुमैर्भूमिसमीकृताः ।।6.52.3।।

rākṣasairvānarāghorāvinikṛttassamantatḥ | vānarairākṣasāścāpidrumairbhūmisamīkṛtāḥ ||6.52.3||

Translation

समन्ततः all over, राक्षसैः Rakshasas, घोराः fierce, वानराः Vanara, विनिकृत्ताः mowed down, राक्षसश्चापि even Rakshasas, वानरैः Vanara, द्रुमैः with trees, भूमिसमीकृताः pulled down to the ground.

Meaning

Fierce Rakshasas mowed down the Vanaras all over and even the Vanaras pulled down Rakshasas to the ground with trees.

YK-52-4Yuddha Kanda 52.4

राक्षसास्त्वभिसङ्क्रुद्धावानरान्निशितैश्शरैः । विव्यथुर्घोरसङ्काशैःकङ्कपत्रैरजिह्मगैः ।।6.52.4।।

rākṣasāstvabhisaṅkruddhāvānarānniśitaiśśaraiḥ | vivyathurghorasaṅkāśaiḥkaṅkapatrairajihmagaiḥ ||6.52.4||

Translation

राक्षसास्तु Rakshasas on their part, अभिसङ्क्रुद्धाः highly enraged, निशितैः sharp, घोरसङ्काशैः dreadful, कङ्कपत्रैः itching feathers, अजिह्मगैः fixed, शरैः arrows, वानरान् at Vanaras, विव्यथु attacked.

Meaning

Highly enraged Rakshasas on their part fixed the Vanaras with sharp dreadful arrows with itching feathers.

YK-52-5-6Yuddha Kanda 52.5–6 (युग्मम्)

तेगदाभिश्चभीमाभिःपट्टसै: कूटमुद्गरैः । घोरैश्चपरिघैश्चित्रैस्त्रिशूलैश्चापिसंश्रितैः ।।6.52.5।। विदार्यमाणारक्षोभिर्वानरास्तेमहाबलाः । अमर्षाज्जनितोद्धर्षाश्चक्रुःकर्माण्यभीतवत् ।।6.52.6।।

tegadābhiścabhīmābhiḥpaṭṭasai: kūṭamudgaraiḥ | ghoraiścaparighaiścitraistriśūlaiścāpisṃśritaiḥ ||6.52.5|| vidāryamāṇārakṣobhirvānarāstemahābalāḥ | amarṣājjanitoddharṣāścakruḥkarmāṇyabhītavat ||6.52.6||

Translation

भीमाभिः being strong, गदाभिः wielding maces, पट्टसै: spikes, कूटमुद्गरैः multitude of weapons to crush, घोरैः terrific, परिघैश्च iron bars also, चित्स्रैः many kinds, संश्रितैः wielders, त्रिशूलैश्च tridents also, रक्षोभिः guarding, विदीर्यमाणाः knowers, महाबलाः endowed with prowess, तेवानराः those Vanaras, अमर्ष bearing, जनितोद्धर्षाः with great enthusiasm, अभीतवत् without fear, कर्माणि their duty, चक्रुः doing.

Meaning

The Vanaras although strong were wielding maces, spikes, tridents, terrific iron bars and multitude of weapons of many kinds to crush the Rakshasas. They were endowed with prowess, knowledgeable of weapons and doing their duty without fear and with great enthusiasm.

YK-52-7Yuddha Kanda 52.7

शरनिर्भिन्नगात्रास्तेशूलनिर्भिन्नदेहिनः । जगृहुस्तेद्रुमांस्तत्रशिलाश्चहरियूथपाः ।।6.52.7।।

śaranirbhinnagātrāsteśūlanirbhinnadehinḥ | jagṛhustedrumāṃstatraśilāścahariyūthapāḥ ||6.52.7||

Translation

शरनिर्भिन्नगात्राः split necks and bodies, शूलनिर्भिन्नदेहिनः by the terrible tridents, ते they, वानरयूथपाः Vanara troops, तत्र there, द्रुमान् trees, शिलाश्च rocks, जगृहुः took up to fight.

Meaning

Vanaras 's bodies split in their necks by the terrible tridents, took up trees and rocks to fight.

YK-52-8Yuddha Kanda 52.8

तेभीमवेगाहरयोनर्दमानास्ततस्ततः । ममन्थूराक्षसान्वीरान्नामानिचबभाषिरे ।।6.52.8।।

tebhīmavegāharayonardamānāstatastatḥ | mamanthūrākṣasānvīrānnāmānicababhāṣire ||6.52.8||

Translation

भीमवेगाः of terrific speed, तेहरयः the monkeys, नर्दमानाः roaring, ततस्ततः proceeding from there, वीरान् heroes, राक्षसान् Rakshasas, ममन्थुः proclaiming नामानिच their names, बभाषिरे crushed.

Meaning

The monkeys endowed with terrific speed, proceeding from there roaring, proclaiming their names crushed the Rakshasa heroes.

YK-52-9Yuddha Kanda 52.9

तद्भभूवाद्भुतंघोरंयुद्धंवानररक्षसाम् । शिलाभिर्विविधाभिश्चबहुभिश्चैवपादपैः ।।6.52.9।।

tadbhabhūvādbhutṃghorṃyuddhṃvānararakṣasām | śilābhirvividhābhiścabahubhiścaivapādapaiḥ ||6.52.9||

Translation

विविधाभिः of several kinds, शिलाभिः rocks, बहुभिः many, पादपैः trees, तत् there, वानररक्षसाम् between Vanaras and Rakshasas, घोरम् fierce, युद्धम् war, अद्भुतम् च wonderful, बभूव took place.

Meaning

Wonderful fight took place between Vanaras and Rakshasas who held trees and rocks of several kinds.

YK-52-10Yuddha Kanda 52.10

राक्षसामथिताःकेचिद्वानरैर्जितकाशिभिः । ववमूरुधिरंकेचिन्मुखैरुधिरभोजनाः ।।6.52.10।।

rākṣasāmathitāḥkecidvānarairjitakāśibhiḥ | vavamūrudhirṃkecinmukhairudhirabhojanāḥ ||6.52.10||

Translation

जितकाशिभिः who conquered fear, वानरैः Vanaras, केचित् indeed, राक्षसाः Rakshasas, मथिताः crushed into lumps, केचित् indeed, रुधिरभोजनाः blood thrown out, मुखैः from mouth, रुधिरम् blood, ववमूः vomited.

Meaning

Vanaras who had conquered fear crushed Rakshasas into lumps of flesh indeed the Rakshasas threw out blood from their mouths.

YK-52-11Yuddha Kanda 52.11

पार्श्वेषुदारिताःकेचित्केचिद्राशीकृताद्रुमैः । शिलाभिश्चूर्णिताःकेचित्केचिद्धन्तैर्विदारिताः ।।6.52.11।।

pārśveṣudāritāḥkecitkecidrāśīkṛtādrumaiḥ | śilābhiścūrṇitāḥkecitkeciddhantairvidāritāḥ ||6.52.11||

Translation

केचित् some, पार्श्वेषु by the sides, दारिताः tore, केचित् some, द्रुमैः by trees, राशीकृताः crushed, केचित् some, शिलाभिः with rocks, चूर्णिताः powdered, केचित् some, दन्तै with teeth, विदारिताः tore into pieces.

Meaning

Some tore by the sides of the body, some crushed by the trees, some powdered by the rocks, and some were torn into pieces with teeth.

YK-52-12Yuddha Kanda 52.12

ध्वजैर्विमथितैर्भग्नैःखङ्गैश्चविनिपातितैः । रथैर्विध्वंसितैश्चापिपतितैःरजनीचरैः ।।6.52.12।।

dhvajairvimathitairbhagnaiḥkhaṅgaiścavinipātitaiḥ | rathairvidhvṃsitaiścāpipatitaiḥrajanīcaraiḥ ||6.52.12||

Translation

केचित् indeed, रजनीचरैः night rangers, विमथितैः killed, भग्नैः broken, ध्वजैः flags, विनिपातितैः crushed, खङ्गैश्च swords, विध्वंसितैः totally destroyed, रथैः chariots, पतितैः fallen down.

Meaning

Indeed, the night rangers were killed, their flags were broken. They were crushed, their swords were destroyed with chariots fallen.

YK-52-13Yuddha Kanda 52.13

गजेन्द्रैःपर्वताकारैःपर्वताग्रैर्वनौकसाम् । मथितैर्वाजिभिःकीर्णंसारोहैर्वसुधातलम् ।।6.52.13।।

gajendraiḥparvatākāraiḥparvatāgrairvanaukasām | mathitairvājibhiḥkīrṇṃsārohairvasudhātalam ||6.52.13||

Translation

वनौकसाम् monkeys, पर्वताग्रैः from mountain tops, मथितैः crushed, पर्वताकारैः like mountains in form, गजेन्द्रैः elephants, सारोहैः riders, वाजिभिः horses, वसुधातलम् surface of the ground, कीर्णम् covered.

Meaning

By the Vanaras hurling from the mountains, the crushed elephants were like mountains and the horses with riders crushed covered the ground all over.

YK-52-14Yuddha Kanda 52.14

वानरैर्भीमविक्रान्स्सैराप्लुत्याऽप्लुत्यवेगितैः । राक्षसाःकरजैस्तीक्ष्णैर्मुखेषुविनिर्तिताः ।।6.52.14।।

vānarairbhīmavikrānssairāplutyā'plutyavegitaiḥ | rākṣasāḥkarajaistīkṣṇairmukheṣuvinirtitāḥ ||6.52.14||

Translation

भीमविक्रान्स्सैः of terrific valour, वेगितैः of high speed, वानरैः Vanaras, आप्लुत्य jumping up, राक्षसाः Rakshasas, तीक्ष्णैः sharp, करजैः nails, मुखेषु on the face, विनिर्तिताः wounded.

Meaning

The Vanaras with their terrific valour jumping up wounded the Rakshasas in their face with their sharp nails.

YK-52-15Yuddha Kanda 52.15

विषण्णवदनाभूयोविप्रकीर्णशिरोरुहाः । मूढाश्शोणितगन्धेननिपेतुर्धरणीतले ।।6.52.15।।

viṣaṇṇavadanābhūyoviprakīrṇaśiroruhāḥ | mūḍhāśśoṇitagandhenanipeturdharaṇītale ||6.52.15||

Translation

भूयः some others, विषण्णवदनाः pale faces, विप्रकीर्णशिरोरुहाः dishevelled hair, शोणितगन्धेन due to the smell of blood, मूढाः lost senses, धरणीतले on the ground, निपेतुः dropped.

Meaning

Some others with pale faces and dishevelled hair lost senses due to rolling in blood dropped on the ground.

YK-52-16Yuddha Kanda 52.16

अन्येतुपरमसङ्कृक्रुद्धाराक्षसाभीमनिश्वना: । तलैरेवाभिधावन्तिवज्रस्पर्शसमैर्हरीन् ।।6.52.16।।

anyetuparamasaṅkṛkruddhārākṣasābhīmaniśvanā: | talairevābhidhāvantivajrasparśasamairharīn ||6.52.16||

Translation

भीमविक्रमाः of terrific valour, अन्ये others, राक्षसाः Rakshasas, परमसङ्कृक्रुद्धाः extremely enraged, वज्रस्पर्शसमैः of hard touch like diamond, तलैरेव with palms, हरीन् monkeys, अभिधावन्ति assailed.

Meaning

Other Rakshasas of terrific valour, extremely enraged, hit the monkeys with their palms which were hard as diamond to touch.

YK-52-17Yuddha Kanda 52.17

वानरैरापतन्तस्तेवेगितावेगवत्तरैः । मुष्टिभिश्चरणैर्दन्स्सैःपादपैश्चावपोथिता ।।6.52.17।।

vānarairāpatantastevegitāvegavattaraiḥ | muṣṭibhiścaraṇairdanssaiḥpādapaiścāvapothitā ||6.52.17||

Translation

वेगिताः endowed with speed, आपतन्तः falling upon, ते them, वेगवत्तरैः of greater speed, वानरैः Vanaras, मुष्टिभिः with fists, चरणैः feet, दन्स्सैः with teeth, पादपैश्च trees also, अवपोथिताः knocking.

Meaning

Endowed with speed, the Vanaras also fell on the Rakshasas at greater speed, knocking them down with fists, feet, teeth and even trees.

YK-52-18Yuddha Kanda 52.18

सैन्यंतुविद्रुतंदृष्टवाधूम्राक्षोराक्षसर्षभः । रोषेणकदनंचक्रेवानराणांयुयुत्सताम् ।।6.52.18।।

sainyṃtuvidrutṃdṛṣṭavādhūmrākṣorākṣasarṣabhḥ | roṣeṇakadanṃcakrevānarāṇāṃyuyutsatām ||6.52.18||

Translation

राक्षसर्षभ bull among Rakshasas, धूम्राक्षः Dhumraksha, विद्रुतम् distressed, सैन्यम् army, दृष्टवा seeing, रोषेण angrily, युयुत्सताम् eager to fight, वानराणाम् Vanaras, कदनम् havoc, चक्रे running away.

Meaning

Dhumraksha, the bull among the Rakshasas seeing the army distressed and running away, being eager to fight began to cause havoc to the Vanaras.

YK-52-19Yuddha Kanda 52.19

प्तासैःप्रमथिताःकेचिद्वानराश्शोणितस्रवाः । मुद्गरैराहताःकेचित्पातिताधरणीतले ।।6.52.19।।

ptāsaiḥpramathitāḥkecidvānarāśśoṇitasravāḥ | mudgarairāhatāḥkecitpātitādharaṇītale ||6.52.19||

Translation

केचित् a few, वानराः Vanaras, प्रासैः by barbed darts, प्रमथिताः mutilated, शोणितस्रवाः, केचित् , मुद्गरैः, आहताः, धरणीतले on the ground, पातिताः dropped.

Meaning

Few Vanaras mutilated by barbed darts, some struck with mallets, blood oozing dropped down.

YK-52-20Yuddha Kanda 52.20

परिघैर्मथिताःकेचिद्भिण्डिवालैर्विदारिताः । पट्टसैराहता: केचिद्विह्वलन्तोगतासवः ।।6.52.20।।

parighairmathitāḥkecidbhiṇḍivālairvidāritāḥ | paṭṭasairāhatā: kecidvihvalantogatāsavḥ ||6.52.20||

Translation

केचित् some, परिघैः iron bars, मथिताः pounded, भिण्डिवालैः torn up, विदारिताः split, केचित् some, पट्टसैः pierced, मथिताः pounded, विह्वलन्तः cut, गतासनः ceased of life.

Meaning

Some were pound by iron bars, some were torn up, some split and some pierced and cut ceased in life.

YK-52-21Yuddha Kanda 52.21

केचिद्विनिहताश्शूलैरुधिरार्द्रावनौकसः । केचिद्विद्रावितानष्टाःसङ्क्रुद्धैराक्षसैर्युधि ।।6.52.21।।

kecidvinihatāśśūlairudhirārdrāvanaukasḥ | kecidvidrāvitānaṣṭāḥsaṅkruddhairākṣasairyudhi ||6.52.21||

Translation

युधि in the battlefield, केचित् some, वनौकसः Vanaras, सङ्क्रुद्धैः attacked by, राक्षसैः Rakshasas, विनिहताः killed, रुधिरार्द्राः floating in blood, भूमौ on the ground, एचित् some, विद्राविताः split, नष्टाः destroyed.

Meaning

In the battlefield some Vanaras, attacked by Rakshasas, were floating on the ground in blood, dead.

YK-52-22Yuddha Kanda 52.22

विभिन्नहृदयाःकेचिदेकपार्श्वेनदारिताः । विदारितास्त्रिशूलैश्चकेचिदान्स्रैर्विनिःसृताः ।।6.52.22।।

vibhinnahṛdayāḥkecidekapārśvenadāritāḥ | vidāritāstriśūlaiścakecidānsrairviniḥsṛtāḥ ||6.52.22||

Translation

केचित् a few, विभिन्नहृदयाः hearts open and broken, एकपार्श्वेन beaten on one side, शायिताः laid, केचित् few, त्रिशूलैः by tridents, विदारिताः split, आन्स्रैः inner parts, विनिःसृताः detached.

Meaning

Some with their hearts open and broken, beaten on side laid detached of their inner parts.

YK-52-23Yuddha Kanda 52.23

तत्सुभीमंमहायुद्धंहरिराक्षससङ्कुलम् । प्रबभौशब्दबहुलंशिलापादपसङ्कुलम् ।।6.52.23।।

tatsubhīmṃmahāyuddhṃharirākṣasasaṅkulam | prababhauśabdabahulṃśilāpādapasaṅkulam ||6.52.23||

Translation

सुभीमम् very frightful, हरिराक्षससङ्कुलम् monkeys and Rakshasa groups, शिलापादमसङ्कुलम् with rocks and trees, शब्दबहुलम् loud noise, महत् great, तत् युद्धम् that battle, प्रबभौ abounded.

Meaning

The monkeys and Rakshasa groups took part in a fierce fight with rocks and trees abounding loud noise.

YK-52-24Yuddha Kanda 52.24

धनुर्ज्यातन्त्रिमधुरंहिक्कातालसमन्वितम् । मन्धस्न्तितसङ्गीतंतद्युद्धगान्धर्वमाबभौ ।।6.52.24।।

dhanurjyātantrimadhurṃhikkātālasamanvitam | mandhasntitasaṅgītṃtadyuddhagāndharvamābabhau ||6.52.24||

Translation

धनुर्ज्यातन्त्रिमधुरम् in the form of twang of bow strings, हिक्कातालसमन्वितम् neighing of horses in the form of wooden cymbals, मन्धस्न्तितसङ्गीतम् music in the form of trumpeting of elephants, तत् that, युद्धगान्धर्वम् , आबभौ seemed.

Meaning

It seemed like music in the form of twang of bow strings, neighing of horses like the sound of wooden cymbals, vocal music in the form of trumpeting of elephants, that battle seemed like symphony.

YK-52-25Yuddha Kanda 52.25

धूम्राक्षस्तुधनुष्पाणिर्वानरान्रणमूर्धनि । हसन्विद्रावयामासदिशस्तुशरवृष्टिभिः ।।6.52.25।।

dhūmrākṣastudhanuṣpāṇirvānarānraṇamūrdhani | hasanvidrāvayāmāsadiśastuśaravṛṣṭibhiḥ ||6.52.25||

Translation

धूम्राक्षस्तु Dhumraksha with bow in hand, रणमूर्धनि in the battle front, धनुष्पाणिः wielding arrows and bow, हसन् laughing, शरवृष्टिभिः showers of arrows, तान् वानरान् on the Vanaras, दिशः directions, तु at, विद्रावयामास started dispersing.

Meaning

Dhumraksha with his bow in hand, showering arrows, laughing in battlefront dispersed the Vanaras in directions.

YK-52-26Yuddha Kanda 52.26

धूम्राक्षेणार्दितंसैन्यंव्यथितंप्रेक्ष्यमारुतिः । अभ्यवर्ततसङ्क्रुद्धःप्रगृह्यविपुलांशिलाम् ।।6.52.26।।

dhūmrākṣeṇārditṃsainyṃvyathitṃprekṣyamārutiḥ | abhyavartatasaṅkruddhḥpragṛhyavipulāṃśilām ||6.52.26||

Translation

मारुतिः Hanuman, धूम्राक्षेण at Dhumraksha, अर्धितम् perturbed, व्यथितम् harassed, सैन्यम् army, प्रेक्ष्य beholding, सङ्क्रुद्धः very angry, विपुलाम् huge, शिलाम् rock, प्रगृह्य grabbing, अभ्यवर्तत turned towards.

Meaning

Beholding the perturbed army, Hanuman seized a huge rock and turned towards Dhumraksha.

YK-52-27Yuddha Kanda 52.27

क्रोधाद् द्विद्द्विगुणताम्राक्षःपितृस्तुल्यपराक्रमः । शिलांतांपातयामासधूम्राक्षस्यरथंप्रति ।।6.52.27।।

krodhād dviddviguṇatāmrākṣḥpitṛstulyaparākramḥ | śilāṃtāṃpātayāmāsadhūmrākṣasyarathṃprati ||6.52.27||

Translation

पितृ father:, तुल्यपराक्रमः endowed with mighty valour, क्रोधात् angrily, द्विगुणताम्राक्षः copper colour red eyed, धूम्राक्षस्य at Dhumraksha, रथंप्रति at the chariot, तांशिलाम् that rock, पातयामास hurled.

Meaning

Endowed with mighty valour equal to his father, an angry Hanuman hurled the rock at the chariot of Dhumraksha.

YK-52-28Yuddha Kanda 52.28

आपततनींशिलांदृष्टवागदामुद्यम्यसम्भ्रमात् । रथादाप्लुत्यवेगेनवसुधायांव्यतिष्ठत ।।6.52.28।।

āpatatanīṃśilāṃdṛṣṭavāgadāmudyamyasambhramāt | rathādāplutyavegenavasudhāyāṃvyatiṣṭhata ||6.52.28||

Translation

आपतन्तीम् descending upon, शिलाम् rock, दृष्टवा beholding, सम्भ्रमात् bewildered, गदाम् mace, उद्यम्य seizing, वेगेन rushing, रथात् chariot's, आप्लुत्य mounting, वसुधायाम् on the ground, व्यतिष्ठत stood

Meaning

Beholding the rock descending upon him, Dhumraksha rushed instantly on the ground from the chariot and stood.

YK-52-29Yuddha Kanda 52.29

साप्रमथ्यरथंतस्यनिपपातशिलाभुवि । सचक्रकूबरसाश्वंसध्वजंसशरासनम् ।।6.52.29।।

sāpramathyarathṃtasyanipapātaśilābhuvi | sacakrakūbarasāśvṃsadhvajṃsaśarāsanam ||6.52.29||

Translation

साशिला that rock, तस्य its, सचक्रकूबरसाश्वम् with wheel and axle, सध्वजम् with posts, सशरासनम् with arrows, रथम् chariot, प्रमध्य crushed, भुवि ground, निपपात Fell.

Meaning

That rock fell on the chariot and got crushed along with its wheel and axle and with arrows.

YK-52-30Yuddha Kanda 52.30

सभङ् क्त्वातुरथंतस्यहनुमान् मारुतात्मजः । रक्षसांकदनंचक्रेसस्कन्धविटपैर्द्रुमैः ।।6.52.30।।

sabhaṅ ktvāturathṃtasyahanumān mārutātmajḥ | rakṣasāṃkadanṃcakresaskandhaviṭapairdrumaiḥ ||6.52.30||

Translation

Meaning

Hanuman the son of WindGod in that way started destroying the chariot and the Rakshasa with tree trunks and stems.

YK-52-31Yuddha Kanda 52.31

विभिन्नशिरसोभूत्वाराक्षसाश्शोणितोक्षिता: । द्रुमैःप्रमथिताश्चान्येनिपेतुर्धरणीतले ।।6.52.31।।

vibhinnaśirasobhūtvārākṣasāśśoṇitokṣitā: | drumaiḥpramathitāścānyenipeturdharaṇītale ||6.52.31||

Translation

राक्षसाः Rakshasa, विभिन्नशिरसः heads broken, भूत्वा hit, शोणितोक्षिताः drenched in blood, अन्ये other, द्रुमैः trees, प्रमथिताः hit by, धरणीतले on the ground, निपेतुः fell.

Meaning

Some Rakshasas hit by trees with their heads broken, shedding blood fell on the ground.

YK-52-32Yuddha Kanda 52.32

विद्राव्यराक्षसंसैन्यंहनुमान्मारुतात्मजः । गिरिशशिखरमादायधूम्राक्षमभिदुद्रुवे ।।6.52.32।।

vidrāvyarākṣasṃsainyṃhanumānmārutātmajḥ | giriśaśikharamādāyadhūmrākṣamabhidudruve ||6.52.32||

Translation

मारुतात्मजः the son of Wind God, हनुमान् Hanuman, राक्षसम् at Rakshasas, सैन्यम् army, विद्राव्य chasing, गिरेः mountain, शिखरम् top, आदाय reaching, धूम्राक्षम् Dhumraksha, अभिदुद्रुवे jumped on to.

Meaning

Hanuman the son of WindGod, after chasing the army of Rakshasas reaching the top of the mountain, jumped on Dhumraksha.

YK-52-33Yuddha Kanda 52.33

तमापतन्तंधूम्राक्षोगदामुद्यम्यवीर्यवान् । विनर्दमानःसहसाहनूमन्तमभिद्रवत् ।।6.52.33।।

tamāpatantṃdhūmrākṣogadāmudyamyavīryavān | vinardamānḥsahasāhanūmantamabhidravat ||6.52.33||

Translation

वीर्यवान् heroic, धूम्राक्षः Dhumrakshasa, गदाम् mace, उद्यम्य lifting up, विनर्दमानः roaring like a lion, सहसा brave, आपतन्तम् jumped, तंहनूमन्तम् that Hanuman, अभिद्रवत् darted.

Meaning

Lifting his mace on seeing Hanuman, heroic and brave Dhumraksha darted on Hanuman, roaring like a lion.

YK-52-34Yuddha Kanda 52.34

तस्यक्रुद्धस्यरोषेणगदांतांबहुकण्टकाम् । पातयामासधूम्राक्षोमस्तकेऽथहनूमतः ।।6.52.34।।

tasyakruddhasyaroṣeṇagadāṃtāṃbahukaṇṭakām | pātayāmāsadhūmrākṣomastake'thahanūmatḥ ||6.52.34||

Translation

अथ and then, धूम्राक्षः Dhumraksha, बहुकण्टकाम् fixed with many nails, तांगदाम् that mace, क्रुद्धस्य enraged, तस्यहनूमतः that Hanuman's, मस्तके head, रोषेण in anger, पातयामास alighted.

Meaning

And then lifting his mace fixed with many nails, Dhumraksha enraged lighted on Hanuman.

YK-52-35Yuddha Kanda 52.35

ताडितःसतयातत्रगदयाभीमरूपया । सकपिर्मारुतबलस्तंप्रहारमचिन्तयन् ।।6.52.35।। धूम्राक्षस्यशिरोमध्येगिरिशृङ्गमपातयत् ।

tāḍitḥsatayātatragadayābhīmarūpayā | sakapirmārutabalastṃprahāramacintayan ||6.52.35|| dhūmrākṣasyaśiromadhyegiriśṛṅgamapātayat |

Translation

तत्र there, भीमवेरूपया of fierce form, तया like that, गदया mace, ताडितः fell, सः he, मारुतबलः equal to WindGod in strength, सःकपिः that monkey, तम् that, प्रहारम् hurt, अचिन्तयन् without caring, धूम्राक्षस्य Dhumraksha's, शिरोमध्ये middle of the head, गिरिशृङ्गम् peak of the mountain, अपातयत् dropped.

Meaning

That fierce mace fell on Hanuman's head. Hanuman who was equal to wind god without caring for the hit dropped the peak of the mountain on the centre of Dhumraksha's head.

YK-52-36Yuddha Kanda 52.36

सविस्फारितसर्वाङ्गोगिरिशृङ्गेणताडितः । पपातसहसाभूमौविकीर्णइवपर्वतः ।।6.52.36।।

savisphāritasarvāṅgogiriśṛṅgeṇatāḍitḥ | papātasahasābhūmauvikīrṇaivaparvatḥ ||6.52.36||

Translation

गिरिशृङ्गेण by the peak of the mountain, ताडितः falling, सः he, विस्फारितसर्वाङ्गः all limbs broken to pieces, सहसा along with, विकीर्णः crushed, पर्वतःइव like a mountain, भूमौ on the ground, पपात fell.

Meaning

By the falling of the peak of the mountain on Dhumraksha, all his limbs broken to pieces and crushed fell on the ground like a mountain.

YK-52-37Yuddha Kanda 52.37

धूम्राक्षंनिहतंदृष्टवाहतशेषानिशाचराः ।।6.52.37।। त्रस्ताःप्रविविशुर्लङ्कांवध्यमानाःप्लवङ्गमैः ।

dhūmrākṣṃnihatṃdṛṣṭavāhataśeṣāniśācarāḥ ||6.52.37|| trastāḥpraviviśurlaṅkāṃvadhyamānāḥplavaṅgamaiḥ |

Translation

हतशेषाः those who survived, निशाचराः night rangers, धूम्राक्षम् Dhumraksha, निहतम् killed, दृष्टवा seeing, त्रस्ताः out of fear, प्लवङ्गमैः of Vanaras, वध्यमानाः killed, लङ्काम् into Lanka, प्रविविशुः reentered.

Meaning

Those Rakshasas who survived the onslaught, seeing Dhumraksha killed, reentered Lanka out of fear of being killed by Vanaras.

YK-52-38Yuddha Kanda 52.38

सतुपवनसुतोनिहत्यशत्रून्क्षतजवहरिस्सरितश्चसन्निकीर्य । रिपुवधजनितश्रमोमहात्मामुदमगमत्कपिभिःसुपूज्यमानः ।।6.52.38।।

satupavanasutonihatyaśatrūnkṣatajavaharissaritaścasannikīrya | ripuvadhajanitaśramomahātmāmudamagamatkapibhiḥsupūjyamānḥ ||6.52.38||

Translation

महात्मा great soul, सः he, पवनसुतः son of wind god, शत्रुम् enemy, निहत्य killing, क्षतजवहाः in the battlefield, परितश्च made to flow, संनिकीर्य river of blood, रिपुवधजनितश्रमः exhausted by killing the enemies, कपिभिः even the monkeys, सुपूज्यमानः started worshipping, मुदम् in joy, आगमत् felt.

Meaning

The son of wind god, the great soul, having killed the enemy in the battlefield and making the river of blood to flow, was exhausted by killing enemies. The monkeys started worshipping him in joy. ।। इत्यार्षेवाल्मीकीयेश्रीमद्रामायणेआदिकाव्येयुद्धकाण्डेद्विपञ्चाशस्सर्गः ।। This is the end of the fifty second sarga of Yuddha Kanda of the first epic the holy Ramayana composed by sage Valmiki.
