YK-27-1Yuddha Kanda 27.1

तांस्तुतेऽहंप्रवक्ष्यामिप्रेक्षमाणस्ययूथपान् । राघवार्थेपराक्रान्तायेनरक्षन्तिजीवितम् ।।6.27.1।।

tāṃstute'hṃpravakṣyāmiprekṣamāṇasyayūthapān | rāghavārtheparākrāntāyenarakṣantijīvitam ||6.27.1||

Translation

राघवार्थे: for the cause of Raghava, पराक्रान्ताः highly valiant ones, ये: their, जीवितम् life, नरक्षन्ति: not caring for, तान् those, यूथपान् army, प्रेक्षमाणस्य: you may see, ते: those, अहं: I, प्रवक्ष्यामि: will describe to you.

Meaning

"I will describe the Vanara force, who are not caring for their lives for the cause of Raghava. You may see."

YK-27-2-3Yuddha Kanda 27.2–3 (युग्मम्)

स्निग्धायस्यबहुव्यामावालालाङ्गूलमाश्रिताः । ताम्राःपीतास्सिताश्श्वेताःप्रकीर्णाघोरकर्मणः ।।6.27.2।। प्रगृहीताःप्रकाशन्तेसूर्यस्येवमरीचयः । पृथिव्यांचानुकृष्यन्तेहरोनामैषयूथपः ।।6.27.3।।

snigdhāyasyabahuvyāmāvālālāṅgūlamāśritāḥ | tāmrāḥpītāssitāśśvetāḥprakīrṇāghorakarmaṇḥ ||6.27.2|| pragṛhītāḥprakāśantesūryasyevamarīcayḥ | pṛthivyāṃcānukṛṣyanteharonāmaiṣayūthapḥ ||6.27.3||

Translation

घोरकर्मणः one of terrific action, यस्य: his, लाङ्गूलम् tall, आश्रिताः holding, बहुव्यामाः measuring many fathoms, स्निग्धा: glossy, ताम्राः red, पीताः yellow, सिताः white, श्वेताः white, प्रकीर्णाः scattered forth, वालाः hairy, सूर्यस्य: Sun 's, प्रगृहीताः holding, मरीचयःइव: like rays of light, प्रकाशन्ते: shining, पृथिव्याम् on the ground, अनुकृष्यन्तेचएषः and dragging this, हरोनामयूथपः known as leader Hara.

Meaning

"One who is of terrific action, whose long tail with plenty of hair of different colours like red, white, yellow with shining ends shining like the scattered rays of the rising sun is holding and dragging on the ground is a leader known as Hara."

YK-27-4Yuddha Kanda 27.4

यंपृष्ठतोऽनुगच्छन्तिशतशोऽथसहस्रशः । द्रुमानुद्यम्यसहसालङ्कारोहणतत्पराः ।।6.27.4।। यूथपाहरिराजस्यकिङ्करास्समुपस्थिताः ।

yṃpṛṣṭhato'nugacchantiśataśo'thasahasraśḥ | drumānudyamyasahasālaṅkārohaṇatatparāḥ ||6.27.4|| yūthapāharirājasyakiṅkarāssamupasthitāḥ |

Translation

समुपस्थिताः standing in attention, हरिराजस्य: Sugriva's, किङ्कराः warriors, शतशः in hundreds, अथ: and, सहस्रशः hundred thousands, यूथपाः troops, द्रुमान् huge trees, उद्यम्य: taking hold, सहसा: along with, लङ्कारोहणतत्पराः aspiring to climb to Lanka, यम् whom, पृष्ठतः at the back, अनुगच्छन्ति: following.

Meaning

"Standing in attention near Sugriva are hundreds and thousands of warriors holding huge trees aspiring to climb Lanka and controlling the Vanaras at the back prominently and following."

YK-27-5-7Yuddha Kanda 27.5–7 (त्रिकम्)

नीलानिवमहामेघांस्तिष्ठतोयांस्तुपश्यसि ।।6.27.5।। असिताञ्जनसङ्काशान् युद्धेसत्यपराक्रमान् । असङ् ख्येयाननिर्देश्यान्परंपारमिवोदधेः ।।6.27.6।। पर्वतेषुचयेकेचिद्विषमेषुनदीषुच । एतेत्वामभिवर्तन्तेराजन्नृक्षास्सुदारुणाः ।।6.27.7।।

nīlānivamahāmeghāṃstiṣṭhatoyāṃstupaśyasi ||6.27.5|| asitāñjanasaṅkāśān yuddhesatyaparākramān | asaṅ khyeyānanirdeśyānparṃpāramivodadheḥ ||6.27.6|| parvateṣucayekecidviṣameṣunadīṣuca | etetvāmabhivartanterājannṛkṣāssudāruṇāḥ ||6.27.7||

Translation

राजन् O king!, नीलान् dark, महामेघानिव: like a huge cloud, तिष्ठतिः standing, असिताञ्जनसङ्काशान् who are of black colour like collyrium, युद्धे: in war, सत्यपराक्रमान् of unfailing valour, असङ् ख्येयान् innumerable ones, उदधेः water, परंपारमिव: like the other bank of sea shore, अनिर्देश्यान् who cannot be defined, यान्तु: whom, पश्यसि: you may see, येकेचित् them perhaps, पर्वतेषु: from mountains, विषमेषु: difficult locations, नदीषुच: in the rivers, एते: those, सुदारुणाः highly ferocious, ऋक्षाः Bears, त्वाम् to you, अभिवर्तन्ते: are advancing.

Meaning

"O King! Standing like dark clouds, black in colour like collyrium, who are of unfailing valour in war, innumerable in numbers, like the small particles of sand on the other bank of ocean, who cannot be counted are moving towards you. They are from mountains, riverbanks, and difficult locations. Those highly ferocious Bears are advancing towards you."

YK-27-8-9Yuddha Kanda 27.8–9 (युग्मम्)

एषांमध्येस्थितोराजन्भीमाक्षोभीमदर्शनः । पर्जन्यइवजीमूतैस्समन्तात्परिवारितः ।।6.27.8।। ऋक्षवन्तंगिरिश्रेष्ठमध्यास्तेनर्मदांपिबन् । सर्वऋक्षाणामधिपतिर्धूम्रोनामैषयूथपः ।।6.27.9।।

eṣāṃmadhyesthitorājanbhīmākṣobhīmadarśanḥ | parjanyaivajīmūtaissamantātparivāritḥ ||6.27.8|| ṛkṣavantṃgiriśreṣṭhamadhyāstenarmadāṃpiban | sarvaṛkṣāṇāmadhipatirdhūmronāmaiṣayūthapḥ ||6.27.9||

Translation

राजन् O king, एषाम् these, मध्ये: midst, स्थितः stands, भीमाक्षः of frightening eyes, भयदर्शनः fearful to look, जीमूतैः clouds, पर्जन्यःइव: like Parjanya, समन्तात् for all, परिवारितः surrounded, एषः this, सर्वऋक्षाणाम् for all the Bears, अधिपतिः Lord, धूम्रःनाम: called Dhumra, यूथपः warrior, नर्मदाम् Narmada's, पिबन् drinking, गिरिश्रेष्ठम् great mountain, ऋक्षवन्तम् at Rkshavana, आध्यास्ते: dwells.

Meaning

"O king! In the midst of these (Vanaras) stands one with frightening eyes and fearful looks, just like Parjanya (RainGod) is surrounded by clouds, is the Lord of all these Bears called Dhumra. He dwells at the great Rkshavana mountain drinking Narmada's (river) water."

YK-27-10-11Yuddha Kanda 27.10–11 (युग्मम्)

यवीयानस्यतुभ्रातापश्यैनंपर्वतोपमम् । भ्रात्रासमानोरूपेणविशिष्टस्तुपराक्रमैः ।।6.27.10।। सएषजाम्बवान्नाममहायूथपयूथपः । प्रक्रान्तोगुरुवर्तीचसम्प्रहारेष्वमर्षण ।।6.27.11।।

yavīyānasyatubhrātāpaśyainṃparvatopamam | bhrātrāsamānorūpeṇaviśiṣṭastuparākramaiḥ ||6.27.10|| saeṣajāmbavānnāmamahāyūthapayūthapḥ | prakrāntoguruvartīcasamprahāreṣvamarṣaṇa ||6.27.11||

Translation

पर्वतोपमम् as if like a mountain, एनम् this, पश्य: see, अस्य: his (Dh umr a's), यवीयान् younger, भ्राता: brother, रूपेण: in body form, भ्रात्रा: brother, समानः though similar, पराक्रमे: in valour, विशिष्टः great, सएषः as such, महायूथपयूथपःएत: superior among leaders, जाम्बवान्नाम: Jambavan by name, प्रक्रान्त: of valourous deed, गुरुवर्तीच: devoted in serving elders, सम्प्रहारेषु: in killing, आमर्षणः intolerant.

Meaning

"See this one like a mountain, he is the brother of Dhumra. Even though he is similar to his brother in body form and his valour is great. As such he is superior among leaders. He is called Jambavan, one of valourous deeds, devoted to elders and intolerant in killing."

YK-27-12Yuddha Kanda 27.12

एतेनसाह्यंसुमहत्कृतंशक्रस्यधीमता । देवासुरेजाम्बवतालब्धाश्चबहवोवराः ।।6.27.12।।

etenasāhyṃsumahatkṛtṃśakrasyadhīmatā | devāsurejāmbavatālabdhāścabahavovarāḥ ||6.27.12||

Translation

धीमता: wise, एतेन: this, जाम्बवता: Jambavata, देवासुरे: Devas and demons, शक्रस्य: to Indra, महत् great, साह्यम् assisted, कृतम् has done, बहवः many, वराश्च: boons, लब्धाः obtained.

Meaning

"His assistance was given to Indra in the war between Devas and demons and in turn he obtained many boons."

YK-27-13-14Yuddha Kanda 27.13–14 (युग्मम्)

आरुह्यपर्वताग्रेभ्योमहाभ्रविपुला: शिलाः । मुञ्चन्तिविपुलाकारानमृत्योरुद्विजन्तिच ।।6.27.13।। राक्षसानांचसदृशाःपिशाचानांचरोमशाः । एतस्यसैन्याबहवोविचरन्त्यग्नितेजसः ।।6.27.14।।

āruhyaparvatāgrebhyomahābhravipulā: śilāḥ | muñcantivipulākārānamṛtyorudvijantica ||6.27.13|| rākṣasānāṃcasadṛśāḥpiśācānāṃcaromaśāḥ | etasyasainyābahavovicarantyagnitejasḥ ||6.27.14||

Translation

राक्षसानाम् of Rakshasas, पिशाचानंच: and demons, सदृशाः appearing, रोमशाः with hairybody, आग्नितेजसः glowing like fire, बहवः many, एतस्यविपुलाकाराः their huge form, सैन्याः army, आरुह्य: climbing, पर्वताग्रेभ्यः from the peaks of mountain, महाभ्रविपुलाः like huge clouds, शिलाः rocks, मुञ्चन्ति: throwing, मृत्योः even death, नउद्विजन्ति: not caring, विचरन्ति: go about.

Meaning

Appearing with hairybody glowing like fire like the Rakshasas and demons, many of them in huge form are climbing mountain peaks without caring for death and go about throwing rocks.

YK-27-15-16Yuddha Kanda 27.15–16 (युग्मम्)

यंत्वेनमभिसम्रब्धंप्लवमानमिवस्थितम् । प्रेक्षन्तेवानरास्सर्वेस्थितायूथपयूथपम् ।।6.27.15।। एषराजन् सहस्राक्षंपर्युपास्तेहरीश्वरः । बलेनबलसम्पन्नोदम्भोनामैषयूथपः ।।6.27.16।।

yṃtvenamabhisamrabdhṃplavamānamivasthitam | prekṣantevānarāssarvesthitāyūthapayūthapam ||6.27.15|| eṣarājan sahasrākṣṃparyupāsteharīśvarḥ | balenabalasampannodambhonāmaiṣayūthapḥ ||6.27.16||

Translation

राजन् O king!, सर्वे: all, वानरा: Vanaras, अभिसम्रब्धम् highly agitated, प्लवमानमिव: jumping like monkeys, स्थितम् stationed, यूथपयूथपम् leader of leaders, स्थितम् staying, त्वे: they, यम् fearsome, एनम् in that way, प्रेक्षन्ते: looking at him, बलसंयुक्तः mighty powerful, एषः this, हरीश्वरः Lord of monkeys, बलेन: by strong army, सहस्राक्षम् thousand eyed, पर्युपास्ते: sitting round, एषः this, दम्बोनामयूथपः known as leader, Dhamba.

Meaning

"O king! This Lord of monkeys, whom whether he is jumping like monkeys or standing is the leader of the leaders, whom the monkeys are looking at standing is called Dhamba, a mighty powerful, fearsome leader and Lord of monkeys. He is surrounded by a strong army like the thousand eyed Indra."

YK-27-17-19Yuddha Kanda 27.17–19 (त्रिकम्)

यःस्थितंयोजनेशैलंगच्छन्पार्श्वेनसेवते । ऊर्ध्वंतथैवकायेनगतःप्राप्नोतियोजनम् ।।6.27.17।। यस्मान्नपरमंरूपंचतुष्पादेषुविद्यते । श्रुतस्संन्नादनोनामवानराणांपितामहाः ।।6.27.18।। येनयुद्धंपुरादत्तंरणेशक्रस्यधीमता । पराजयश्चनप्राप्तस्सोऽयंयूथपयूथपः ।।6.27.19।।

yḥsthitṃyojaneśailṃgacchanpārśvenasevate | ūrdhvṃtathaivakāyenagatḥprāpnotiyojanam ||6.27.17|| yasmānnaparamṃrūpṃcatuṣpādeṣuvidyate | śrutassṃnnādanonāmavānarāṇāṃpitāmahāḥ ||6.27.18|| yenayuddhṃpurādattṃraṇeśakrasyadhīmatā | parājayaścanaprāptasso'yṃyūthapayūthapḥ ||6.27.19||

Translation

यः he who, योजने: a yojana, स्थितम् standing, शैलम् mountain, पार्श्वेन: by flanks, सेवते: touches, तथैव: so also, कायेन: with his body, ऊर्ध्वम् gets up, गतः reaches, योजनम्प्राप्नोति: one yojana reaches, यस्मात् than him, परमम् bigger, रूपम् form, चतुष्पादेषु: among the four legged ones, नविद्यते: not there, धीमता: intelligent one, येन: so, पुरा: earlier, रणे: in war, शक्रस्य: with Indra, युद्धम् war, दत्तम् gave, पराजयः lost battle, नप्राप्तः not got, सः he, यूथपः commander, पितामहाः grandfather, सन्नादनोनाम: known as Sannadana, श्रुतः well known.

Meaning

"He who stands at one yojana touches a mountain with his flanks, so also gets up and reaches a yojana height with his body, is Sannadana. He is the grandfather of Vanaras. There is no one who has a bigger body size than him among the four legged ones. He had fought war with Indra and is well known for not losing in the battle."

YK-27-20Yuddha Kanda 27.20

यस्यविक्रममाणस्यशक्रस्येवपराक्रमः । एषगन्धर्वकन्यायामुत्पन्नःकृष्णवर्त्मनः ।।6.27.20।। तदादेवासुरेयुद्धेसाह्यार्थंत्रिदिवौकसाम्

yasyavikramamāṇasyaśakrasyevaparākramḥ | eṣagandharvakanyāyāmutpannḥkṛṣṇavartmanḥ ||6.27.20|| tadādevāsureyuddhesāhyārthṃtridivaukasām

Translation

विक्रममाणस्य: in valour, यस्य: his, पराक्रमः valour, शक्रस्येव: equal Indra, एषः this, गन्धर्वकन्याम् Gandharva maiden, कृष्णवर्त्मना: from fire god, तदा: then, देवासुरेयुद्धे: in the war between gods and demons, त्रिदिवौकसाम् for the sake of gods, साह्वार्थम् for assistance, उत्पन्नः was created.

Meaning

"His valour is equal to that of Indra. He is born to Gandharva, a maiden of the god of fire. He was created for the sake of assisting gods in the war between gods and demons."

YK-27-21-23Yuddha Kanda 27.21–23 (त्रिकम्)

यस्यवैश्रवणोराजाजम्बूमुपनिषेवते ।।6.27.21।। योराजापर्वतेन्द्राणांबहुकिन्नरसेविनाम् । विहारसुखदोनित्यंभ्रातुस्तेराक्षसाधिप ।।6.27.22।। तत्रैषवसतिश्रीमान्बलवान्वानरर्षभः । युद्धेष्वकत्थनोनित्यंक्रोधनोनामयूथपः ।।6.27.23।।

yasyavaiśravaṇorājājambūmupaniṣevate ||6.27.21|| yorājāparvatendrāṇāṃbahukinnarasevinām | vihārasukhadonityṃbhrātusterākṣasādhipa ||6.27.22|| tatraiṣavasatiśrīmānbalavānvānararṣabhḥ | yuddheṣvakatthanonityṃkrodhanonāmayūthapḥ ||6.27.23||

Translation

राक्षसाधिप: king of Rakshasas, वैश्रवण: Vysravana, राजा: king, यस्य: his, जम्बूम् Jambu tree, उपनिषेवते: near, यः he who, बहुकिन्नरसेविनाम् frequented by many Kinnaras, पर्वेतेन्द्राणाम् Kailas the king of all mountains, राजा: king, तेभ्रातुः your brother, नित्यम् always, विहारसुखदः strolling for pleasure, तत्र: there, श्रीमान् prosperous, बलवान् powerful, वानरोत्तमः exceptional among Vanaras, युद्धेषु: in war, अकत्थनः not boastful, एषः this, क्रथनोनाम: Krathana by name, यूथपः commander of troops, नित्यम् always, वसति: lived.

Meaning

"O King of Rakshasas! This Vanara who is exceptional among Vanaras, a commander of troops by name Krathana, who is not boastful in wars, lives on Kailas, the king of mountains which is frequented by many Kinnaras, on which your brother king Kubera son of Vysravana stays under Jambu tree and strolls for his pleasure."

YK-27-24Yuddha Kanda 27.24

वृतःकोटिसहस्रेणहरीणांसमुपस्थितः । एषैवाशंसतेलङ्कांस्वेनानीकेनमर्दितुम् ।।6.27.24।।

vṛtḥkoṭisahasreṇaharīṇāṃsamupasthitḥ | eṣaivāśṃsatelaṅkāṃsvenānīkenamarditum ||6.27.24||

Translation

हरीणाम् with Vanaras, कोटिसहस्रेण: thousand crores, वृतः surrounded, स्थितः stays, स्वेन: his own, आनीकेन: army force, लङ्काम् Lanka, मर्दितुम् to crush, आशंसते: intends to.

Meaning

"He is surrounded with thousand crores of his Vanara force and with his own force he intends to crush Lanka."

YK-27-25-26Yuddha Kanda 27.25–26 (युग्मम्)

योगङ्गामनुपर्येतित्रासयन्गजयूथपान् । हस्तिनांवानराणांचपूर्ववैरमनुस्मरन् ।।6.27.25।। एषयूथपतिर्नेतागच्छन् गिरिगुहाशयः । गजान्योधयतेवन्यान्गिरींश्चैवमहीरुहान् ।।6.27.26।।

yogaṅgāmanuparyetitrāsayangajayūthapān | hastināṃvānarāṇāṃcapūrvavairamanusmaran ||6.27.25|| eṣayūthapatirnetāgacchan giriguhāśayḥ | gajānyodhayatevanyāngirīṃścaivamahīruhān ||6.27.26||

Translation

य: He who, गङ्गाम् Ganga, अनुपर्येति: roam around, त्रासयन: frightening, गजयूथपान्: herds of elephants, हस्तिनाम् of elephants, वानराणांच: and Vanaras, पूर्ववैरम् earlier enmity, अनुस्मरन् remembering, एषः this, यूथपतिर्नेता: leader of commanders, गच्छन् going about,, गिरिगुहाशयः mountain caves, गजान् elephants, योधयते: waging war, वन्यान् wild, गिरींश्चैव: and mountains, महीरुहान् trees.

Meaning

"There is one who roams around Ganga, frightening herds of elephants, remembering the earlier enmity between elephants and Vanaras. This leader of commanders goes about mountain caves, trees and mountains waging war with elephants."

YK-27-27Yuddha Kanda 27.27

हरीणांवाहिनीमुख्योनदींहैमवतीमनु । उशीरबीजमाश्रित्यपर्वतंमन्दरोपमम् ।।6.27.27।। रमतेवानरश्रेष्ठोदिविशक्रइवस्वयम् ।

harīṇāṃvāhinīmukhyonadīṃhaimavatīmanu | uśīrabījamāśrityaparvatṃmandaropamam ||6.27.27|| ramatevānaraśreṣṭhodiviśakraivasvayam |

Translation

हरीणाम् of the monkeys, वाहिनीमुख्यः chief of the army, वानरश्रेष्ठः most excellent one, हैमवतीम् Hymavathi, नदीम् river, उशीरबीजम् Usirabeejam, पर्वतम् mountain, मन्दरोपमम् like the Mandara mountain, आश्रित्य: taking as abode, दिवि: in heaven, स्वयम् just as, शक्रःइव: Indra, रमते: revels.

Meaning

"The chief of the army of monkeys and the excellent one among Vanaras revels on the mountain Usirabeejam like the mountain Mandara on the bank of river Hymavathi just as Indra in heaven."

YK-27-28Yuddha Kanda 27.28

एनंशतसहस्राणांसहस्रमनुवर्तते । वीर्यविक्रमदृप्तानांनर्दतांबलशालिनाम् ।।6.27.28।।

enṃśatasahasrāṇāṃsahasramanuvartate | vīryavikramadṛptānāṃnardatāṃbalaśālinām ||6.27.28||

Translation

वीर्यविक्रमदृप्तानाम् who are proud of their valour and prowess, नर्दताम् roaring like lions, बलशालिनाम् mighty strong ones, शतसहस्राणाम् hundred thousand, सहस्रम् thousand, एनम् like that, अनुवर्तते: follow him.

Meaning

"Thousand lakhs of mighty strong Vanaras who are proud of their valour and prowess roaring like lions follow him."

YK-27-29Yuddha Kanda 27.29

सएषनेताचैतेषांवानराणांमहात्मनाम् । सएषदुर्धरोराजन्प्रमाथीनामयूथपः ।।6.27.29।।

saeṣanetācaiteṣāṃvānarāṇāṃmahātmanām | saeṣadurdharorājanpramāthīnāmayūthapḥ ||6.27.29||

Translation

सःएषः he alone, एतेषाम् their, महात्मनाम् great self, वानराणाम् for Vanaras, नेता: leader, राजन् O king, सःएषः he alone, दुर्धरः difficult to resist, प्रमाथीनाम: called Pramathi, यूथपः commander.

Meaning

"He alone is the leader of the great Vanaras, O king. He is called Pramathi, a commander and a difficult one to resist."

YK-27-30-31Yuddha Kanda 27.30–31 (युग्मम्)

वातेनेवोद्धतंमेघंयमेनमनुपश्यसि । अनीकमभिसंरब्धंवानराणांतरस्विनाम् ।।6.27.30।। उद्दूतमरुणाभासंपवनेनसमन्ततः । विवर्तमानंबहुधायत्रैतद्बहुळंरजः ।।6.27.31।।

vātenevoddhatṃmeghṃyamenamanupaśyasi | anīkamabhisṃrabdhṃvānarāṇāṃtarasvinām ||6.27.30|| uddūtamaruṇābhāsṃpavanenasamantatḥ | vivartamānṃbahudhāyatraitadbahuळṃrajḥ ||6.27.31||

Translation

वातेन: by the wind, उद्धतम् risen up, मेघमिव: like a cloud, यम् which, एनम् that way, अनुश्यसि: you see, यत्र: there, पवनेन: by the wind, समन्ततः all over, उद्धूत्तम् lifted up, अरुणाभासम् reddish brown dust, बहुशः abundantly, विवर्तमानम् whirling round, बहुळम् several, रजः dust particles, तरस्विनाम् swiftly, वानराणाम् Vanaras, अभिसंरब्धम् furious, अनीकम्: the army.

Meaning

"You see him (Pramathi) who resembles a cloud risen up by the wind you may also see the reddish brown dust particles lifted up by excessive whirling of the wind all over and also the furious Vanara army moving swiftly."

YK-27-32-33Yuddha Kanda 27.32–33 (युग्मम्)

एतेऽसितमुखाघोरागोलाङ्गूलामहाबलाः । शतंशतहस्राणिदृष्ट्वावैसेतुबन्धनम् ।।6.27.32।। गोलाङ्गूलंमहावेगंगवाक्षंनामयूधपम् । परिवार्याभिवर्तन्तेलङ्कांमर्दितुमोजसा ।।6.27.33।।

Translation

एते: these, असितमुखाः endowed with black coloured face, घोराः fearsome, गोलाङ्गूलाः black monkeys with tail like that of a cow, महाबलाः of extraordinary strength, शतम् hundred, शतसहस्राणी: hundred thousand, दृष्टवा: seeing, सेतुबन्धनम् bridge constructed, गोलाङ्गूलम् black coloured and cow tailed monkey, महावेगं: of great speed, यूथपम् leader, गवाक्षंनाम: named Gavaksha,, परिवार्य: surrounded, अभिवर्तन्ते: are approaching, ओजसा: with vigour, लङ्काम् Lanka, मर्दितुम् to demolish.

Meaning

"These hundred and hundred thousand black monkeys with a tail like that of a cow called Golangulas, endowed with black coloured face, fearsome and with extraordinary strength, watching the bridge constructed, surround Gavaksha the leader, who himself is a Golangula and of great speed. They intend to demolish Lanka with their vigour."

Translation

राजन् king, यत्र: where, सर्वकालफलद्रुमाः trees that give fruits in all seasons, भ्रमराचरिताः inhabited by honey bees, तुल्यपर्णाभम् of similar leaves, सूर्यः Sun, अनुपर्येति: along with adjoining, यस्य: its, भासा: shining, मृगपक्षिणः animals and birds, सदा: ever, तद्वर्णाः its colour, भान्ति: shining, महात्मानः great souls, महर्षयः sages, यस्य: its, प्रस्थं: stable land on the top of the mountain, नत्यजन्ति: not leave, सर्वे: all, सर्वकामफला: fruits of all seasons, वृक्षाः trees, फलसमन्विताः with tasty fruits, यस्मिन् of that, पर्वतसत्तमे: excellent mountain, मधूनि: honey, महार्हाणि: highly valuable, तत्र: there, रम्ये: delightful, काञ्चनपर्वते: golden mountain, वानरमुख्यानाम् among the chief Vanaras, मुख्यः chief, एषः this, केसरि: Kesari, नाम: named, यूथपः leader, रमते: revels.

Meaning

"O king! Where the trees give fruit in all seasons which is inhabited by honeybees, whose leaves shine similar to that of Sunshine, where birds animals and all ever shining in golden colour of the Sun, where sages and great souls reside without leaving where trees always yield tasty fruits and have valuable honey in such a delightful golden mountain Vanara leader named Kesari, the chief of all chief Vanaras revels."

Meaning

"O sinless king! there are sixty thousand golden mountains. In the midst of them is this golden mountain just as you are in the midst of the Rakshasas. On the last mountain the Vanaras with brown coloured face, white face, coppery red face and yellow face like honey with sharp teeth like lions, who have nails as weapons, four toothed ones like lions, fearsome ones like tiger, dangerous to approach, all of them like serpents with flaming venomous tongues, with long uplifted tails, like huge elephants in rut in mountain size, roaring like lions, thundering clouds, with round brownish red eyed ones, fearful while walking and causing appalling uproar all of them dwell on the last mountain. They are watching to demolish your Lanka as they look at it."

YK-27-43-44Yuddha Kanda 27.43–44 (युग्मम्)

एषचैषामधिपतिर्मध्येतिष्ठतिवीर्यवान् ।।6.27.43।। जयार्थीनित्यमादित्यमुपतिष्ठतिबुद्धिमान् । नाम्नापृथिव्यांविख्यातोराजन् शतबलीतियः ।।6.27.44।। एषैवाशंसतेलङ्कांस्वेनानीकेनमर्दितुम् ।

Translation

राजन् O king!, यः he who, नाम्ना: named, शतबलीति: Satabali, पृथिव्याम् on this earth, विख्यातः very famous, वीर्यवान् valiant hero, एषाम् this, अधिपति: leader, एषः this, मध्ये: in middle, तिष्ठति: stands, बुद्धिमान् wise one, जयार्धी: aspiring for victory, नित्यम् ever, आदित्यम् Sun, उपतिष्ठते: worships, एषैव: he, स्वेन: alone, अनीकेन: army, लङ्काम् of Lanka, मर्दितुम् would demolish, आशंसते: intending to do.

Meaning

"O king! He who is known as Satabali, is a famous one on the earth, is a valiant hero, a leader. He stands in the middle aspiring for victory ever worshipping Sun. He alone with his army is intending to demolish Lanka."

YK-27-45Yuddha Kanda 27.45

विक्रान्तोबलवान् शूरःपौरुषेस्वेव्यवस्थितः । रामप्रियार्थंप्राणानांदयांनकुरुतेहरिः ।।6.27.45।।

vikrāntobalavān śūrḥpauruṣesvevyavasthitḥ | rāmapriyārthṃprāṇānāṃdayāṃnakurutehariḥ ||6.27.45||

Translation

विक्रान्तः indomitable, बलवान् strong, शूरः heroic, स्वे: himself, पौरुषे: virility, व्यवस्थितः not give up, हरिः Vanara, रामप्रियार्थम् for the pleasure of Rama, प्राणानाम् even life, दयाम् pity for, नकुरुते: not care.

Meaning

"He is indomitable, strong and heroic. He will not give up his virility. For the pleasure of Rama, he will not feel pity for his life (he will give up his life)."

YK-27-46Yuddha Kanda 27.46

गजोगवाक्षोगवयोनलोनीलश्चवानरः । एकैकएवयोधानांकोटीभिर्दशभिर्वृतः ।।6.27.46।।

gajogavākṣogavayonalonīlaścavānarḥ | ekaikaevayodhānāṃkoṭībhirdaśabhirvṛtḥ ||6.27.46||

Translation

गजः Gaja, गवाक्षः Gavaksha, गवयः Gavaya, नीलः Nila, वानर: Vanara, एकैकएव: each one of them, यूधानाम् of the leaders, कोटिभिः even one crore, दशभि: ten, वृतः are surrounded.

Meaning

"Gaja, Gavaksha, Gavaya, Nila each of these Vanara leaders have ten crores of army under them."

YK-27-47Yuddha Kanda 27.47

तथाऽऽन्येवानरश्रेष्ठाविन्ध्यपर्वतवासिनः । नशक्यन्तेबहुत्वात्तुसङ् ख्यातुंलघुविक्रमाः ।।6.27.47।।

tathā''nyevānaraśreṣṭhāvindhyaparvatavāsinḥ | naśakyantebahutvāttusaṅ khyātuṃlaghuvikramāḥ ||6.27.47||

Translation

तथा: similarly, विन्ध्यपर्वतावासिनः those residing in Vindhya mountain, अन्ये: others, लघुविक्रमाः of great valiance, वानरश्रेष्ठाः best of Vanaras, बहुत्वात् many kinds, सङ् ख्यातुम् large numbers, नशक्यन्ते: not possible to count.

Meaning

"So also, those best of Vanaras of many kinds residing in Vindhya mountain of great valour in large numbers is impossible to count."

YK-27-48Yuddha Kanda 27.48

सर्वेमहाराजमहाप्रभावास्सर्वेमहाशैलनिकाशकायाः । सर्वेसमर्थापृथिवींक्षणेनकर्तुंप्रविध्वस्तविकीर्णशैलाम् ।।6.27.48।।

sarvemahārājamahāprabhāvāssarvemahāśailanikāśakāyāḥ | sarvesamarthāpṛthivīṃkṣaṇenakartuṃpravidhvastavikīrṇaśailām ||6.27.48||

Translation

महाराज: O great king!, सर्वे: all, महाप्रभावाः very splendid, सर्वे: all, महाशैलनिकाशकायाः have mountain like body, सर्वे: all, क्षणेन: in a second, पृथिवीम् the whole earth, प्रविध्वस्तविकीर्णशैलाम् to crush the mountains into powder, कर्तुम् to do, समर्थाः capable.

Meaning

"O, Monarch! All of them are highly prominent, their stature equal to high hills and all of them are capable of levelling the earth by uprooting and razing its mountains to the ground in a moment." ।। इत्यार्षेवाल्मीकीयेश्रीमद्रामायणेआदिकाव्येयुद्धकाण्डेसप्तविंशस्सर्गः ।। This is the end of the twenty seventh sarga of Yuddha Kanda of the first epic the holy Ramayana composed by sage Valmiki.
