YK-120-1Yuddha Kanda 120.1

ततोहिदुर्मनाराम्श्रुत्वैवंवदतांगिरः । दध्यौमुहूर्तंधर्मात्माबाष्पव्याकुललोचनः ।।6.120.1।।

tatohidurmanārāmśrutvaivṃvadatāṃgirḥ | dadhyaumuhūrtṃdharmātmābāṣpavyākulalocanḥ ||6.120.1||

Translation

ततः there upon, धर्मात्मा righteous, रामः Rama, एवम् in that way, वदताम् spoken, गिरः people, श्रुत्वा hearing, दुर्मनाः wailing, बाष्पपूरितलोचनः eyes dimmed with tears, मुहूर्तम् a moment, दध्यौ remained

Meaning

Then righteous Rama, hearing the wailing of the people, whose eyes were dimmed with tears, remained for a moment.

ततोवैश्रवणोराजायमश्चपितृभिःसह । सहस्राक्षश्चदेवेशोवरुणश्चजलेश्वरः ।।6.120.2।। षडर्धनयन्श्रीमान्महादेवोवृषध्वजः । कर्तासर्वस्यलोकस्यब्रह्माब्रह्मविदांवरः ।।6.120.3।। एतेसर्वेसमागम्यविमानैस्सूर्यसन्निभैः । आगम्यनगरींलङ्कामभिजग्मुश्चराघवम् ।।6.120.4।।

ततः then, राजा king, वैश्रवणः Vysravana, पितृभिःसह with father, यमश्च Yama, देवेशः Devas, सहस्राक्षश्च Indra of thousand eyes, जलेश्वरः god of waters, वरुणश्च Varuna, षडर्धनयनःsix eyed, श्रीमान् glorious, वृषध्वजःVrshadwaja, महादेवः MahaDeva, सर्वस्य all, लोकस्य worlds, कर्ता creator, ब्रह्मविदाम् creators, वरःforemost, ब्रह्मा Brahma, एते all those, सर्वे all, समागम्य reached, सूर्यसन्निभैः closely resembling the sun in radiance, विमानैः aerial car, लङ्कांनगरीम् to Lanka city, आगम्य having reached, राघवम् Raghava, अभिजग्मुः went towards

Meaning

Then king Kubera, son of Vysravana, Yama, with Devas, Indra of thousand eyes, Varuna, the god of waters, glorious six eyed MahaDeva, who has bull on his banner, the creator of all the worlds, foremost of creators, Brahma, all of them reached Lanka city and went towards Raghava.

YK-120-5Yuddha Kanda 120.5

ततःसहस्ताभरणान्प्रगृह्यविपुलान्भुजान् । अब्रुवंस्त्रिदशश्रेष्ठाराघवंप्राञ्जलिंस्थितम् ।।6.120.5।।

tatḥsahastābharaṇānpragṛhyavipulānbhujān | abruvṃstridaśaśreṣṭhārāghavṃprāñjaliṃsthitam ||6.120.5||

Translation

ततः then, त्रिदशश्रेष्ठाः foremost of gods, सहस्ताभरणान् adorned with ornaments in hands, विपुलान् long, भुजान् shoulders, प्रगृह्य taking up, प्राञ्जलिम् greeted with both palms, स्थितम् stood, राघवम् Raghava, अब्रुवन् spoke as follows

Meaning

Then foremost of gods adorned with ornaments in hands lifted up their long shoulders and greeted Raghava with joined palms and spoke as follows.

कर्तासर्वस्यलोकस्यश्रेष्ठोज्ञानवतांप्रभुः । उपेक्षसेकथंसीतांपतन्तींहव्यवाहने ।।6.120.6।। कथंदेवगणश्रेष्ठमात्मानंनावबुद्ध्यसे ।

kartāsarvasyalokasyaśreṣṭhojñānavatāṃprabhuḥ | upekṣasekathṃsītāṃpatantīṃhavyavāhane ||6.120.6|| kathṃdevagaṇaśreṣṭhamātmānṃnāvabuddhyase |

Translation

सर्वस्य all sides, लोकस्य in the world, कर्ता creator, ज्ञानवताम् knowledgeable, श्रेष्ठः foremost, प्रभुः Lord, हव्यवाहने fire, पतन्तीम् falling, सीताम् Sita, कथम् how, उपेक्षसे looking, देवगणश्रेष्ठम् foremost of the hosts of Devas, आत्मानम् himself, कथम् how, नावबुद्ध्यसे not know?

Meaning

"You are the creator of the entire world, knowledgeable and the foremost Lord of the host of gods. How did you keep watching Sita falling into fire'?

YK-120-7Yuddha Kanda 120.7

ऋतधामावसुःपूर्वंवसूनां च प्रजापतिः ।।6.120.7।। त्रयाणामपिलोकानामादिकर्तास्वयंप्रभुः ।

ṛtadhāmāvasuḥpūrvṃvasūnāṃ ca prajāpatiḥ ||6.120.7|| trayāṇāmapilokānāmādikartāsvayṃprabhuḥ |

Translation

पूर्वम् in the past, वसूनाम् Vasus, ऋतधामा Rtadhama, वसुः Vasu, त्रयाणामपि creator of the three worlds, लोकानाम् in the world, आदिकर्ता first creator, स्वयंप्रभुः Lord himself, प्रजापतिः selfconstituted ruler

" Among the Vasus, you are the Rtadhama and the creator of the three worlds and the first creator and selfconstituted ruler."

रुद्राणामष्टमोरुद्रस्साध्यानामपिपञ्चमः ।।6.120.8।। अश्विनौचापिकर्णौतेसूर्यचन्द्रामसौदृशौ ।

Translation

रुद्राणाम् Rudra, अष्टम: eighth, रुद्रः Rudra, साध्यानाम् अपि among Sadhayas, पञ्चमः fifth, अश्विनौ twin Aswins, ते you, कर्णौ ears, सूर्याचन्द्रमसौ sun and moon are, दृशौ your eyes

"You are the eighth among the Rudras, fifth among the Sadhyas, two Aswins are your ears, and the sun and moon are your eyes."

YK-120-9Yuddha Kanda 120.9

अन्तेचादौ च लोकानांदृश्यसे च परन्तप ।।6.120.9।। उपेक्षसे च वैदेहींमानुषःप्राकृतोयथा ।

antecādau ca lokānāṃdṛśyase ca parantapa ||6.120.9|| upekṣase ca vaidehīṃmānuṣḥprākṛtoyathā |

Translation

परन्तप tormentor of enemies, लोकानाम् in the world, आदौ at the beginning, अन्ते च and at the end, दृश्यसे seen, प्राकृतः common, मानुषोयथा like the man, वैदेहीम् Vaidehi, उपेक्षसे च looking as if you are ignorant

Meaning

"O Tormentor of enemies! You are at the beginning and at the end of the world. You are looking like a common man would look at Sita, when she was falling into pyre."

इत्युक्तोलोकपालैस्तैस्स्वामीलोकस्यराघवः ।।6.120.10।। अब्रवीत्त्रिदशश्रेष्ठान्रामधर्मभृतांवरः ।

Meaning

Rama the upholder of dharma and foremost and supreme god spoke after the ruler of the world had spoken to him.

YK-120-11Yuddha Kanda 120.11

आत्मानंमानुषंमन्येरामंदशरथात्मजम् ।।6.120.11।। सोऽहंयस्ययतश्चाहंभगववंस्तद्भ्रवीतुमे ।

ātmānṃmānuṣṃmanyerāmṃdaśarathātmajam ||6.120.11|| so'hṃyasyayataścāhṃbhagavavṃstadbhravītume |

Translation

आत्मानम् I am, दशरथात्मजम् Dasharatha's son, मानुषम् human, रामम् Rama, मन्ये thinking, सः he, अहम् I, यस्य from where, अहम् I, यश्च whence, तत् that, भगवान् divine, मे me, ब्रवीतु tell

Meaning

"I am Dasharatha's son, a human and thinking to be Rama. Tell me O divine creator, from where and whence I am here."

इतिब्रुवाणंकाकुत्स्थंब्रह्माब्रह्मविदांवरः ।।6.120.12।। अब्रवीच्छ्रुणुमेवाक्यंसत्यंसत्यपराक्रम ।

itibruvāṇṃkākutsthṃbrahmābrahmavidāṃvarḥ ||6.120.12|| abravīcchruṇumevākyṃsatyṃsatyaparākrama |

Translation

इति thus, ब्रुवाणम् having said, काकुत्स्थम् Kakuthsa, ब्रह्मविदाम् creator, Brahma, वरः foremost, ब्रह्मा Brahma, अब्रवीत् said, सत्यपराक्रम truthful prowess, मे my, सत्यम् truth, वाक्यम् words, शृणु listen

Meaning

To Kakuthsa who spoke that way, creator Brahma replied, "O Lord of truthful prowess, listen to my true submission."

YK-120-13Yuddha Kanda 120.13

भवान्नारायणोदेवःश्रीमांश्चक्रायुधःप्रभुः ।।6.120.13।। एकशृङ्गोवराहस्त्वंभूतभव्यसपत्नजित् ।

bhavānnārāyaṇodevḥśrīmāṃścakrāyudhḥprabhuḥ ||6.120.13|| ekaśṛṅgovarāhastvṃbhūtabhavyasapatnajit |

Translation

भवान् yourself, देवः divine, श्रीमान् glorious, चक्रायुधः wielder of discus, प्रभुः Lord, नाराणयः Narayana, त्वम् you, एकशृङ्गः single tusk, वराहः boar, भूतभव्यसपत्नजित् knower of past and future

Meaning

"You are the divine self, glorious Narayana himself, wielder of discus. You are having a single tusk and a divine boar, knower of past and present."

YK-120-14Yuddha Kanda 120.14

अक्षरंब्रह्मसत्यं च मध्येचान्ते च राघव ।।6.120.14।। लोकानांत्वंपरोधर्मोविष्वक्सेनश्चतुर्भुजः ।

akṣarṃbrahmasatyṃ ca madhyecānte ca rāghava ||6.120.14|| lokānāṃtvṃparodharmoviṣvaksenaścaturbhujḥ |

Translation

अक्षरम् imperishable, मध्ये च in the midst, अन्ते च and end, सत्यं च truth, ब्रह्म Brahma, त्वम् you, लोकानाम् in the world, परः, धर्मः dharma, विष्वक्सेनः all pervading, चतुर्भुजः four shouldered

Meaning

"You are the imperishable Brahma in the midst or end, abiding in truth. You are dharma, all pervading four shouldered Vishnu in the world."

शार्ङ्गधन्वाहृषीकेशःपुरुषःपुरुषोत्तमः ।।6.120.15।। अजितःखङ्गदृग्विष्णुःकृष्णश्चैवमहाबलः ।

śārṅgadhanvāhṛṣīkeśḥpuruṣḥpuruṣottamḥ ||6.120.15|| ajitḥkhaṅgadṛgviṣṇuḥkṛṣṇaścaivamahābalḥ |

शार्ङ्गधन्वा wielder of Saranga bow, हृषीकेशः subduer of senses, पुरुषः man, पुरुषोत्तमः supreme person, अजितः never faced defeat, खङ्गभृत् wielder of sword, विष्णुः Vishnu, कृष्णश्चैव Krishna also, महाबलः mighty

"You are the wielder of Sarang bow, subduer of enemies, a supreme person, never faced defeat, wielder of sword, Vishnu, Krishna also and mighty."

सेनानीर्ग्रामणीश्चत्वंत्वंबुद्धिस्त्वंक्षमादमः ।।6.120.16।। प्रभवश्चाप्ययश्चत्वमुपेन्द्रोमधुसूदनः ।

senānīrgrāmaṇīścatvṃtvṃbuddhistvṃkṣamādamḥ ||6.120.16|| prabhavaścāpyayaścatvamupendromadhusūdanḥ |

त्वम् you, सेनानीः commander of the army of gods (Karthikeya), ग्रामणीश्च head of village, त्वम् you, बुद्धिः intellect, त्वम् you, क्षमा forbearance, दमः sense control, त्वम् you, प्रभवः origin, अप्ययश्च and end, उपेन्द्रःVamana, मधुसूदनः destroyer of demon Madhu

Meaning

"You are the Karthikeya, the commander of army, village headman. You are the intellect, forbearance. You are the origin and end also. You are Vamana and destroyer of demon Madhu."

इन्द्रकर्मामहेन्द्रस्त्वंपद्मनाभोरणान्तकृत् ।।6.120.17।। शरण्यंशरणं च त्वामाहुर्दिव्यामहर्षयः ।

"You are spoken of as the creator of Indra, Mahendra himself, Padmanabha, who puts an end to combat. You are a wonderful great sage and refuge of seekers."

"You are the form of sacrifice ritual you are worshipped by Vasat. You are the syllable OM. Only the highest of the higher know you. You are without a beginning or end. Who you are is not known to Vedas also?"

दृश्यसेसर्वभूतेषुगोषु च ब्राह्मणेषु च ।।6.120.21।। दिक्षुसर्वासुगगनेपर्वतेषुनदीषु च ।

dṛśyasesarvabhūteṣugoṣu ca brāhmaṇeṣu ca ||6.120.21|| dikṣusarvāsugaganeparvateṣunadīṣu ca |

सर्वभूतेषु in all beings, गोषु च cows, ब्राह्मणेषु च Brahmanas, सर्वासु all, दिक्षु quarters, गगने sky, पर्वतेषु in mountains, नदीषु च in rivers, दृश्यसे see you

"You are seen in cows and brahmanas. You exist in all quarters, in the sky, mountains and rivers."

सहस्रचरण्श्रीमान् शतशीर्षस्सहस्रदृक् ।।6.120.22।। त्वंधारयसिभूतानिपृथिवीं च सपर्वताम् ।

sahasracaraṇśrīmān śataśīrṣassahasradṛk ||6.120.22|| tvṃdhārayasibhūtānipṛthivīṃ ca saparvatām |

सहस्रचरणः endowed with thousand feet, श्रीमान् glorious, शतशीर्षः hundred heads, सहस्रदृक् with thousand eyes, त्वम् you, भूतानि beings, सपर्वताम् all mountains, पृथिवीं earth च and, धारयसि sustain

"You are endowed with thousand feet, glorious, with hundred heads and hundred eyes, you sustain all beings, mountains and earth."

अन्तेपृथिव्याःसलिलेदृश्यसेत्वंमहोरगः ।।6.120.23।। त्रीन्लोकान्धारयन् राम देवगन्धर्वदानवान् ।

antepṛthivyāḥsaliledṛśyasetvṃmahoragḥ ||6.120.23|| trīnlokāndhārayan rāma devagandharvadānavān |

"Rama, at the dissolution of the earth you are seen to live on water and sustain a huge serpent. You are supporting the three worlds, the Devas, Gandharvas and Danavas."

अहंतेहृदयंरामजिह्वादेवीसरस्वती ।।6.120.24।। देवारोमाणिगात्रेषुब्रह्मणानिर्मिताःप्रभो ।

ahṃtehṛdayṃrāmajihvādevīsarasvatī ||6.120.24|| devāromāṇigātreṣubrahmaṇānirmitāḥprabho |

राम Rama, अहम् I, ते to you, हृदयम् heart, देवी Devi, सरस्वती Saraswathi, जिह्वा tongue, प्रभो Lord, देवाः god, सर्वगात्रेषु limbs, रोमाणि hair, ब्रह्मणा by Brahma, निर्मिताः created

"Rama, all gods constitute your heart, Devi Saraswathi is your tongue, the gods created by Brahma are the hair on your limbs."

निमेषस्तेस्मृतारात्रिरुन्मेषोदिवसस्तथा ।।6.120.25।। संस्कारास्त्वभवन्वेदानैतदस्तित्वयाविना ।

nimeṣastesmṛtārātrirunmeṣodivasastathā ||6.120.25|| sṃskārāstvabhavanvedānaitadastitvayāvinā |

Translation

ते your, निमेषः closing your eyelids, रात्रिः night, स्मृता death, तथा so also, उन्मेषः open the eyelids, दिवसः day, संस्काराः perfection in action, वेदाः Vedas, त्वयाविना without you, एतत् all this, नास्ति not there

Meaning

"When you close your eyelids, it becomes night and when you open it becomes day. Your perfection in action are the Vedas. Without you, there is nothing."

जगत्सर्वंशरीरंतेस्थैर्यंतेवसुथातलम् ।।6.120.26।। अग्निःकोपःप्रसादस्तेसोम्श्रीवत्सलक्षणः ।

jagatsarvṃśarīrṃtesthairyṃtevasuthātalam ||6.120.26|| agniḥkopḥprasādastesomśrīvatsalakṣaṇḥ |

Translation

सर्वम् all, जगत् world, ते your, शरीरम् body, ते your, स्थैर्यम् firmness, वसुथातलम् the earth, कोपः anger, अग्निः fire, ते your, प्रसादः grace, सोमः nobility, श्रीवत्सलक्षणः sign of Srivatsa

"The total world represents your body, your firmness represents the earth, your anger is fire, your grace is nobility, a sign of Srivatsa."

त्वयालोकास्त्रयःक्रान्ताःपुरास्वैर्विक्रमैस्त्रिभिः ।।6.120.27।। महेन्ध्रश्चकृतोराजाबलिंबद्ध्वासुदारुणम् ।

"Before you took the form of Trivikrama, and took three strides, occupied the three worlds and bound the dreadful king Bali you made Mahendra as king of heaven."

सीतालक्ष्मीर्भवान् विष्णुर्देवःकृष्णःप्रजापतिः ।।6.120.28।। वधार्थंरावणस्येहप्रविष्टोमानुषींतनुम् ।

sītālakṣmīrbhavān viṣṇurdevḥkṛṣṇḥprajāpatiḥ ||6.120.28|| vadhārthṃrāvaṇasyehapraviṣṭomānuṣīṃtanum |

Translation

सीता Sita, लक्ष्मीः Lakshmi, भवान् you, देवः god, कृष्णःKrishna, प्रजापतिः Lord, विष्णुः Vishnu, रावणस्य Ravana's, वधार्थम् in order to put an end, इह here, मानुषम् mortal, तनुम् body, प्रविष्टः entered

Meaning

"Sita is goddess Lakshmi while you are Vishnu. You are Krishna. You are the Lord of created beings. In order to put an end to Ravana, you entered the mortal body on earth."

तदिदंनस्त्वयाकार्यंकृतंधर्मभृतांवर ।।6.120.29।। निहतोरावणोरामप्रहृष्टोदिवमाक्रम ।

tadidṃnastvayākāryṃkṛtṃdharmabhṛtāṃvara ||6.120.29|| nihatorāvaṇorāmaprahṛṣṭodivamākrama |

धर्मभृताम् upholder of dharma, वर supreme, राम Rama, तत् that purpose for which, इदम् this, नःकार्यम् that action, कृतम् is done, रावणः Ravana, निहतः killed, प्रहृष्टः happily, दिवम् abode, आक्रम return to

Meaning

"Rama you are the supreme and upholder of dharma. The purpose for which you are born has been accomplished. Ravana is killed. You return to your abode happily."

अमोघंदेववीर्यंते न तेमोघाःपराक्रमाः ।।6.120.30।। अमोघंदर्शनंरामअमोघस्तवसंस्तवः ।

Translation

देव O God, ते your, वीर्यम् valour, अमोघम् wonderful, ते your, पराक्रमाः prowess, मोघाः astonishing, न never goes vain, रामदर्शनम् your sight, अमोघम् unfailing, तव your, संस्तवः praise, अमोघःwill never go in vain

Meaning

"O God! Your valour is wonderful, your prowess never goes in vain. Your sight is a blessing, and your praise is unfailing and not gone in vain."

अमोघास्तेभविष्यन्तिभक्तिमन्तोनराभुवि ।।6.120.31।। येत्वांदेवंध्रुवंभक्ताःपुराणंपुरुषोत्तमम् । प्राप्नुवन्तिसदाकामनिहलोकेपरत्र च ।।6.120.32।।

Translation

भुवि in this world, तेभक्तिमन्तः whoever is devoted to you, नराः human, अमोघाः supreme, भविष्यन्ति will be very successful, ये they, देवम् god, ध्रुवम् firm, पुराणम् eternal, पुरुषोत्तमम् supreme human being, त्वाम् you, भक्ताः devotees, इहलोके in this world, परत्र च in other world, सदा always, कामाम् desired, प्राप्नुवन्ति will attain success.

Meaning

"Those mortals who are devoted to you, the supreme god, will be very successful. You are eternal, supreme being. Your devotees in this world and other world will always attain the desired results."
