YK-103-1Yuddha Kanda 103.1

लक्ष्मणेनतुतद्वाक्यमुक्तंश्रुत्वा स राघवः । सन्दधेपरवीरघ्नोधनुरादायवीर्यवान् ।।6.103.1।।

lakṣmaṇenatutadvākyamuktṃśrutvā sa rāghavḥ | sandadheparavīraghnodhanurādāyavīryavān ||6.103.1||

Translation

परवीरघ्नः destroyer of enemies, वीर्यवान् courageous, सःराघवः Raghava, लक्ष्मणेन by Lakshmana, उक्तम् spoken, तत् those, वाक्यम् words, श्रुत्वा hearing, धनुः bow, आदाय took up, सन्दधे fixed

Meaning

Courageous Raghava, the destroyer of enemies on hearing the words spoken by Lakshmana took up his bow and fixed it.

YK-103-2Yuddha Kanda 103.2

रावणायशरानघोरान्विससर्जचमूमुखे । अधान्यंरथमास्थायरावणोराक्षसाधिपः ।।6.103.2।। अभ्यधावतकाकुत्स्थंस्वर्भानुरिवभास्करम् ।

rāvaṇāyaśarānaghorānvisasarjacamūmukhe | adhānyṃrathamāsthāyarāvaṇorākṣasādhipḥ ||6.103.2|| abhyadhāvatakākutsthṃsvarbhānurivabhāskaram |

Translation

चमूमुखे forefront of army, रावणाय Ravana's, घोरान् dreadful, शरान् arrows, विससर्ज discharged, अथ and then, राक्षसाधिपः king of Rakshasas, रावणः Ravana, अन्यम् other, रथम् chariot, आस्थाय ascended, काकुत्स्थम् Kakuthsa, स्वर्भानुः planet to Sun, भास्करम् इव the Sun, अभ्यधावत went towards

Meaning

Rama discharged dreadful shafts at Ravana's army in the forefront. Ravana ascended another chariot and went towards Rama, just as the planet Rahu moved towards the Sun.

YK-103-3Yuddha Kanda 103.3

दशग्रीवोरधस्थस्तुरामंवज्रोपमैश्शरैः ।।6.103.3।। आजघानमहाशैलंधाराभिरिवतोयदः ।

daśagrīvoradhasthasturāmṃvajropamaiśśaraiḥ ||6.103.3|| ājaghānamahāśailṃdhārābhirivatoyadḥ |

Translation

रथस्थः from the chariot दशग्रीवःतु ten headed also, रामम् at Rama, वज्रोपमैः like thunderbolt, शरैःshafts, तोयदः rain cloud, धाराभिः showers, महाशैलम् इव on the huge mountain, आजघान struck

Meaning

Seated in the chariot, the ten headed Ravana showered thunderbolt like shafts just as rain cloud showers on a huge mountain and struck.

YK-103-4Yuddha Kanda 103.4

दीप्तपावकसङ्काशैःशरैःकाञ्चनभूषणैः ।।6.103.4।। अभ्यवर्षद्रणरामोदशग्रीवंसमाहितः ।

dīptapāvakasaṅkāśaiḥśaraiḥkāñcanabhūṣaṇaiḥ ||6.103.4|| abhyavarṣadraṇarāmodaśagrīvṃsamāhitḥ |

Translation

रामःRama, समाहितःsteadily, दीप्तपावकसङ्काशैः shining like glowing fire, काञ्चनभूषणैः covered with gold, शरैःshafts, रणे in battle, दशग्रीवम् Ravana, अभ्यवर्षत् covered

Meaning

Sri Rama steadily covered Ravana, the ten headed Rakshasa with shining shafts covered with gold glowing like fire in the battle.

YK-103-5Yuddha Kanda 103.5

भूमौस्थितस्यरामस्यरथस्थस्य च रक्षसः ।।6.103.5।। न समंयुद्धमित्याहुर्देवगन्धर्वकिन्नराः ।

bhūmausthitasyarāmasyarathasthasya ca rakṣasḥ ||6.103.5|| na samṃyuddhamityāhurdevagandharvakinnarāḥ |

Translation

भूमौ on the earth, स्थितस्य standing, रामस्य Rama's, रथस्थस्य seated, रक्षसः Rakshasa, युद्धम् doing war, समम् not equal, न not, इति this, देवगन्धर्वकिन्नराः Devas, Gandharvas and Kinneras, आहुः declared

Meaning

Rama standing on the earth and Ravana seated on the chariot and waging war is not fair, declared Devas, Gandharvas and Kinneras.

YK-103-6Yuddha Kanda 103.6

ततोदेववरर्श्रीमान् श्रुत्वातेषांवचोऽमृतम् ।।6.103.6।। आहूयमातलिंशक्रोवचनंचेदमब्रवीत् ।

tatodevavararśrīmān śrutvāteṣāṃvaco'mṛtam ||6.103.6|| āhūyamātaliṃśakrovacanṃcedamabravīt |

Translation

ततः then, देववरः foremost of Devas, श्रीमान् glorious, शक्रः Indra, तेषाम् their, वचोमृतम् words of nectar, श्रुत्वा hearing, मातलिम् Matali, आहूय called for, इदम् thus, वचनं च words also, अब्रवीत् spoke

Meaning

The foremost of Devas, the glorious Indra, on hearing their sweet words called his charioteer Matali and spoke as follows.

YK-103-7Yuddha Kanda 103.7

रथेनममभूमिष्ठंशीघ्रंयाहिरघूत्तमम् ।।6.103.7।। आहूयभूतलंयातःकुरुदेवहितंमहत् ।

rathenamamabhūmiṣṭhṃśīghrṃyāhiraghūttamam ||6.103.7|| āhūyabhūtalṃyātḥkurudevahitṃmahat |

Translation

मम my, रथेन chariot, शीघ्रम् quickly, भूमिष्ठम् on the earth, रघूत्तमम् foremost of Raghus, याहि proceed, आहूय calling, भूतलम् on the ground, यातः where, महत् great, देवहितम् words of Devas, कुरु do

Meaning

"Proceed quickly in my chariot to the foremost of the Raghus on the earth, where Sri Rama stands and call him to sit in the chariot as per the words of Devas."

YK-103-8Yuddha Kanda 103.8

इत्युक्तोदेवराजेनमातलिर्देवसारथिः ।।6.103.8।। प्रणम्यशिरसादेवंततोवचनमब्रवीत् ।

ityuktodevarājenamātalirdevasārathiḥ ||6.103.8|| praṇamyaśirasādevṃtatovacanamabravīt |

Translation

देवराजेन Lord of Devas, इति thus, उक्तः spoken, देवसारधिः charioteer of Devas, मातलिः Matali, शिरसा obedience, देवम् to Devas, प्रणम्य offering salutations, ततः then, वचनम् these words, अब्रवीत् spoke

Meaning

Lord of Devas having spoken that way, the charioteer of Devas offering salutations to Devas in obedience spoke these words.

YK-103-9Yuddha Kanda 103.9

शीघ्रंयास्यामिदेवेन्द्रसारथ्यं च करोम्यहम् ।।6.103.9।। ततोहयैश्चसम्योज्यहरितैःस्यन्दनोत्तमम् ।

śīghrṃyāsyāmidevendrasārathyṃ ca karomyaham ||6.103.9|| tatohayaiścasamyojyaharitaiḥsyandanottamam |

Translation

देवेन्द्र Devendra, अहम् I, स्यन्दनोत्तमम् Lord of gods, हरितैः green, हयैः horses, सम्योज्य duly, ततः then, शीघ्रम् quickly, यास्यामि to you, सारथ्यं च and charioteer, करोमि will do

Meaning

"O Devendra, I will do the duty of charioteer duly to the Lord of gods with green horses proceeding quickly", said the charioteer."

YK-103-10-13Yuddha Kanda 103.10–13 (कलापकम्)

ततःकाञ्चनचित्राङ्गःकिङ्किणीशतभूषितः ।।6.103.10।। तरुणादित्यसङ्काशोवैदूर्यमयकूबरः । सदश्वैःकाञ्चनापीडैर्युक्तश्श्वेतप्रकीर्णकैः ।।6.103.11।। हरिभिःसूर्यसङ्काशैर्हेमजालविभूषितैः । रुक्मवेणुध्वज्श्रीमन्देवराजरथोवरः ।।6.103.12।। देवराजेनन्दिष्टोरथमारुह्यमातलिः । अभ्यवर्ततकाकुत्स्थमवतीर्यत्रिवष्टपात् ।।6.103.13।।

tatḥkāñcanacitrāṅgḥkiṅkiṇīśatabhūṣitḥ ||6.103.10|| taruṇādityasaṅkāśovaidūryamayakūbarḥ | sadaśvaiḥkāñcanāpīḍairyuktaśśvetaprakīrṇakaiḥ ||6.103.11|| haribhiḥsūryasaṅkāśairhemajālavibhūṣitaiḥ | rukmaveṇudhvajśrīmandevarājarathovarḥ ||6.103.12|| devarājenandiṣṭorathamāruhyamātaliḥ | abhyavartatakākutsthamavatīryatrivaṣṭapāt ||6.103.13||

Translation

ततः thereafter, देवराजेन by the Lord of Devas, सन्दिष्टः assigned, मातलिः Matali, काञ्चनचित्राङ्गः body of wheels decked with charming gold, किङ्किणीशतभूषितः fitted with hundreds of bells, तरुणआदित्यसङ्काशः shone like the early morning sun, काञ्चनापीडैः decked with gold on top, श्वेतप्रकीर्णकैः white whisks, हरिभिः green horses also, सूर्यसङ्काशैः shining like the sun, हेमजालविभूषितैः decked with golden net, सदश्वैः the horses, युक्तः fitted, उक्मवरः on golden bamboo like staff, श्रीमान् glorious, वरः foremost, देवराजरथःking of gods, रथम् chariot, आरुह्य mounted, त्रिविष्टपात् descending from heaven, अवतीर्य opposite, काकुत्स्थम् to Kakuthsa, अभ्यवर्तत went towards.

Meaning

Thereafter, Matali brought the glorious chariot of Lord of Devas. It was decked with charming gold wheels, body fitted with hundreds of gold bells that shone like the early morning sun, decked with gold on top, green horses with white whisks shining like the Sun, decked with golden net, the horses yoked to staff, and the flag fitted on golden bamboo staff. Descending from the chariot, like from heaven, Matali went towards Kakuthsa.

YK-103-14Yuddha Kanda 103.14

अब्रवीच्चतदारामंसप्रतोदोरथेस्थितः । प्राञ्जलिर्मातलिर्वाक्यंसहस्राक्षस्यसारथिः ।।6.103.14।।

abravīccatadārāmṃsapratodorathesthitḥ | prāñjalirmātalirvākyṃsahasrākṣasyasārathiḥ ||6.103.14||

Translation

तदा then, सहस्राक्षस्य thousand eyed, सारथिः charioteer, मातलिः Matali, सप्रतोदः holding the whip, रथे from the chariot, स्थितः seated, प्राञ्जलिः offered salutation with both palms, रामम् to Sri Rama, वाक्यम् these words, अब्रवीत् च spoke

Meaning

Then the thousand eyed charioteer, holding the whip in hand, from the chariot, offered salutations with folded palms to Sri Rama and spoke these words.

YK-103-15Yuddha Kanda 103.15

सहस्राक्षेणकाकुत्थ्सरथोऽयंविजयायते । दत्तस्तवमहासत्त्वश्रीमन् शत्रुनिबर्हण ।।6.103.15।।

sahasrākṣeṇakākutthsaratho'yṃvijayāyate | dattastavamahāsattvaśrīman śatrunibarhaṇa ||6.103.15||

Translation

महासत्त्व endowed with great prowess, श्रीमन् glorious, शत्रुनिबर्हण destroyer of enemies, काकुत्थ्स Kakuthsa's, अयम् this, रथः chariot, ते to you, विजयाय for victory, सहस्राक्षेण by the thousand eyed, तव to you, दत्तः gifted

Meaning

"To you, Kakuthsa, who are endowed with great prowess, destroyer of enemies, this chariot has been sent by Indra for your victory."

YK-103-16Yuddha Kanda 103.16

इदमैन्द्रंमहच्चापंकवचंचानगिसन्निभम् । शराश्चादित्यसङ्काशाःशक्तिश्चविमलाशिवा ।।6.103.16।।

idamaindrṃmahaccāpṃkavacṃcānagisannibham | śarāścādityasaṅkāśāḥśaktiścavimalāśivā ||6.103.16||

Translation

ऐन्द्रम् Indra's, इदम् this, महत् mighty, चापम् bow, अनगिसंनिभम् shining like fire, कवचं च armour, आदित्यसङ्काशाः resembling sun, शराश्च shafts, विमला stainless, शिवा auspicious, शक्तिश्च javelin

Meaning

"Here is Indra's mighty bow, armour shining like fire, shafts resembling the Sun and stainless auspicious javelin."

YK-103-17Yuddha Kanda 103.17

आरुह्येमंरथंवीरराक्षसंजहिरावणम् । मयासारथिनाराजन् महेन्द्रइवदानवान् ।।6.103.17।।

āruhyemṃrathṃvīrarākṣasṃjahirāvaṇam | mayāsārathinārājan mahendraivadānavān ||6.103.17||

Translation

वीर heroic, राजन् king, सारथिना charioteer, मया me, इमम् this, रथम् chariot, आरुह्य mounting, महेन्द्रः Mahendra, दानवान् इव like he killed demons, राक्षसम् Rakshasa, रावणम् Ravana, जहि attack

Meaning

"O heroic king! With me as charioteer, mounting this chariot, kill the Rakshasa Ravana as Mahendra killed the demons."

YK-103-18Yuddha Kanda 103.18

इत्युक्तःसम्परिक्रम्यरथंतमभिवाद्य च । आरुरोहतदारामोलोकान् लक्ष्मविराजयन् ।।6.103.18।।

ityuktḥsamparikramyarathṃtamabhivādya ca | ārurohatadārāmolokān lakṣmavirājayan ||6.103.18||

Translation

इति thus, उक्तःspoken, रामःRama, सम्परिक्रम्य going round, तम् him, रथम् chariot, अभिवाद्य च saluting, तदा then, लोकान् world, लक्ष्मsplendour, विराजयन् illumining, आरुरोह ascended

Meaning

Speaking like that, Matali went round Sri Rama, and went round the chariot clockwise saluting him. Sri Rama then ascended the chariot, illuminating his splendour to the world.

YK-103-19Yuddha Kanda 103.19

तद्भभूवाद्भुतंयुद्धंतुमुलंरोमहर्षणम् । रामस्य च महाबाहोरावणस्य च रक्षसः ।।6.103.19।।

tadbhabhūvādbhutṃyuddhṃtumulṃromaharṣaṇam | rāmasya ca mahābāhorāvaṇasya ca rakṣasḥ ||6.103.19||

Translation

महाबाहोः mightyarmed, रामस्य Rama's, रक्षसः Rakshasa, रावणस्य च Ravana's, तुमुलम् severe, रोमहर्षणम् thrilling, अद्भुतम् wonderful, युद्धम् fight, तदा then, बभूव च took place

Meaning

Then a wonderful, severe thrilling fight took place between Sri Rama and Ravana.

YK-103-20Yuddha Kanda 103.20

स गान्धर्वेणगान्धर्वंदैवंदैवेनराघवः । अस्त्रंराक्षसराजस्यजघानपरमास्त्रवित् ।।6.103.20।।

sa gāndharveṇagāndharvṃdaivṃdaivenarāghavḥ | astrṃrākṣasarājasyajaghānaparamāstravit ||6.103.20||

Translation

परमास्त्रवित् highly skilled in supreme weapons, सःराघवः that Raghava, राक्षसराजस्य Rakshasa king's, गान्धर्वम् Gandharvam, अस्त्रम् missile, गान्धर्वेण by Gandharva, दैवम् Deva, दैवेन and god, जघान destroyed

Meaning

Raghava who was highly skilled in the use of supreme weapons destroyed that missile presided over by Gandharvas and gods, released by Ravana.

YK-103-21Yuddha Kanda 103.21

अस्त्रंतुपरमंघोरंराक्षसंराक्षसाधिपः । ससर्जपरमक्रुद्धःपुनरेवनिशाचरः ।।6.103.21।।

astrṃtuparamṃghorṃrākṣasṃrākṣasādhipḥ | sasarjaparamakruddhḥpunarevaniśācarḥ ||6.103.21||

Translation

राक्षसाधिपः Rakshasa king, निशाचरः night ranger, परमक्रुद्धः highly furious, परमम् most घोरम् terrific, राक्षसम् Rakshasa, अस्त्रम् missile, पुनरेव once again, ससर्ज discharged

Meaning

The Rakshasa king, the night ranger, became highly furious and once again discharged the most terrific missile presided over by Rakshasas.

YK-103-22Yuddha Kanda 103.22

तेरावणधनुर्मुक्ताःशराःकाञ्चनभूषणाः । अभ्यवर्तन्तकाकुत्स्थंसर्पाभूत्वामहाविषाः ।।6.103.22।।

terāvaṇadhanurmuktāḥśarāḥkāñcanabhūṣaṇāḥ | abhyavartantakākutsthṃsarpābhūtvāmahāviṣāḥ ||6.103.22||

Translation

रावणधनुर्मुक्ताः released from Ravana's bow, काञ्चनभूषणाः covered with gold, तेशराः those shafts, महाविषाः highly venomous, सर्पाः serpent, भूत्वा arising, काकुत्स्थम् to Kakuthsa, अभ्यवर्तन्त went near

Meaning

The shafts released from Ravana's bow were covered with gold and highly venomous like serpents reached near Kakuthsa.

YK-103-23Yuddha Kanda 103.23

तेदीप्तवदनादीप्तंसमन्तोज्वलनंमुखैः । राममेवाभ्यवर्तन्तव्यादितास्याभयानकाः ।।6.103.23।।

tedīptavadanādīptṃsamantojvalanṃmukhaiḥ | rāmamevābhyavartantavyāditāsyābhayānakāḥ ||6.103.23||

Translation

दीप्तवदनाः with flaming mouths, ते those, मुखैः face, दीप्तम् glowing, ज्वलनम् fire, वमन्तः vomiting, व्यादितास्याः striking, भयानकाः frightening, राममेव towards Rama, अभ्यवर्तन्त over to

Meaning

Those shafts with wide flaming mouths, vomiting fire, glowing, frightening, and striking went over to Rama.

YK-103-24Yuddha Kanda 103.24

तैर्वासुकिसमस्पर्शैर्दीप्तभोगैर्महाविषैः । दिशश्चसन्ततास्सर्वाप्रदिशश्चसमावृताः ।।6.103.24।।

tairvāsukisamasparśairdīptabhogairmahāviṣaiḥ | diśaścasantatāssarvāpradiśaścasamāvṛtāḥ ||6.103.24||

Translation

वासुकिसमस्पर्शैः like the Vasuki, दीप्तभोगैः flaming coils, महाविषैः huge poison, तैः those, सर्वाः all, दिशश्च quarters, सन्तताः covered, प्रदिशश्च corners, समावृताः enveloped

Meaning

Flaming coils like the Vasuki, covering all quarters with poison, enveloped all over.

YK-103-25Yuddha Kanda 103.25

तान् दृष्टवापन्नगान् रामःसमापततआहवे । अस्त्रंगारुत्मतंघोरंप्रादुश्चक्रेभयावहम् ।।6.103.25।।

tān dṛṣṭavāpannagān rāmḥsamāpatataāhave | astrṃgārutmatṃghorṃprāduścakrebhayāvaham ||6.103.25||

Translation

रामः Rama, आहवे coming towards, समापततः approaching, तान् पन्नगान् those reptiles, दृष्टवा seeing, घोरम् dreadful, भयावहम् fearful, गारुत्मतम् Garuda, अस्त्रम् missile, प्रादुश्चक्रे discharged

Meaning

Seeing the dreadful reptiles approaching, Rama discharged the missile presided over by Garuda.

YK-103-26Yuddha Kanda 103.26

तेराघवधनुर्मुक्तारुक्मपुङ्खाःशिखिप्रभाः । सुपर्णाःकाञ्चनाभूत्वाविचेरुःसर्पशत्रवः ।।6.103.26।।

terāghavadhanurmuktārukmapuṅkhāḥśikhiprabhāḥ | suparṇāḥkāñcanābhūtvāviceruḥsarpaśatravḥ ||6.103.26||

Translation

राघवधनुर्मुक्ताः discharged from Raghava's bow, रुक्मपुङ्खाःgolden feathered eagles, शिखिप्रभाः shine of the feathers, ते those, सर्पशत्रवः reptiles and snakes, काञ्चनाः golden, सुवर्णाः all, भूत्वा arising, विचेरुःflew

Meaning

By the missile discharged by Raghava those reptiles and snakes turned into golden feathered eagles and by the shine of the feathers, the reptiles flew.

YK-103-27Yuddha Kanda 103.27

तेतान्सर्वान् जघ्नुस्सर्परूपान्महाजवान् । सुपर्णरूपारामस्यविशिखाःकामरूपिणः ।।6.103.27।।

tetānsarvān jaghnussarparūpānmahājavān | suparṇarūpārāmasyaviśikhāḥkāmarūpiṇḥ ||6.103.27||

Translation

रामस्य Rama's, कामरूपिणः which change form as per their will, सुपर्णरूपाः form of eagles, ते they, विशिखाः shafts, महाजवान् great speed, सर्परूपान् snake forms, सर्वान् all, तान् of them, शरान् shafts, जघ्नुः flew

Meaning

Those shafts of Rama in the form of eagles which could change their form at will, destroyed the serpent forms and they flew at great speed.

YK-103-28Yuddha Kanda 103.28

अस्त्रेप्रतिहतेक्रुद्धोरावणोराक्षसाधिपः । अभ्यवर्षत्तदारामंघोराभिःशरवृष्टिभिः ।।6.103.28।।

astrepratihatekruddhorāvaṇorākṣasādhipḥ | abhyavarṣattadārāmṃghorābhiḥśaravṛṣṭibhiḥ ||6.103.28||

Translation

अस्त्र missiles, प्रतिहते knocked back, क्रुद्धः enraged, राक्षसाधिपः king of Rakshasas, तदा then, घोराभिः terrific, शरवृष्टिभिः shower of shafts, रामम् Rama, अभ्यवर्षत् covered

Meaning

King of Rakshasas knocked back, became enraged and covered Rama with a terrific shower of shafts.

YK-103-29Yuddha Kanda 103.29

ततश्शरसहस्रेणराममक्लिष्टकारिणम् । अर्दयित्वाशरौघेणमातलिम्प्रत्यविध्यत ।।6.103.29।।

tataśśarasahasreṇarāmamakliṣṭakāriṇam | ardayitvāśaraugheṇamātalimpratyavidhyata ||6.103.29||

Translation

ततः thereafter, शरसहस्रेण by a thousand shafts, अक्लिष्टकारिणम् of unwearied action, रामम् Rama, अर्दयित्वा pierced, शरौघेण shafts, मातलिम् Matali, प्रत्यविध्यत discharged

Meaning

Thereafter having showered a thousand shafts on Rama, of unwearied action, Ravana pierced Matali with shafts.

YK-103-30Yuddha Kanda 103.30

चिच्छेदकेतुमुद्धिश्यशरेणैकेनरावणः । पातयित्वारथोपस्थेरथात्केतुं च काञ्चनम् ।।6.103.30।। ऐन्द्रानपिजघानाश्वान्शरजालेनरावणः ।

cicchedaketumuddhiśyaśareṇaikenarāvaṇḥ | pātayitvārathopastherathātketuṃ ca kāñcanam ||6.103.30|| aindrānapijaghānāśvānśarajālenarāvaṇḥ |

Translation

रावणः Ravana, एकेन with one, शरेण arrow, उददिश्य felled, केतुम् staff, चिच्छेद shattered, काञ्चनम् golden, रथात् of the chariot, रथोपस्थे on the flag, पातयित्वा felled down, रावणः Ravana, शरजालेन net of arrows, ऐन्द्रान् Indra's, अश्वान् अपि horses also, जघान struck

Meaning

Ravana attacked the flag post of the chariot with one arrow and felled it down. Then he released a network of arrows on Indra's horses and struck them.

YK-103-31-32Yuddha Kanda 103.31–32 (युग्मम्)

तदृष्ट्वासुमहातत्कर्मरावणस्यदुरात्मना: । विषेदुर्देवगन्धर्वाचारणादानवैस्सह ।।6.103.31।। राममार्तंतदादृष्टवासिद्धाश्चपरमर्षयः । व्यथितावानरेन्द्राश्चबभूवुस्सविभीषणाः ।।6.103.32।। रामचन्द्रमसंदृष्टवाग्रस्तंरावणराहुणा ।

Meaning

On seeing Sri Rama afflicted by the action of evilminded Ravana, the Devas, Gandharvas, Charanas, Danavas also, Siddhas and foremost rishis were despondent. Seeing the moon like Sri Rama eclipsed by planet Rahu in the form of Ravana, the Vanara leaders and Vibheeshana became worried.

प्राजात्यं च नक्षत्रंरोहिणींकशशिनःप्रियाम् ।।6.103.33।। समाक्रम्यबुधस्तस्थौप्रजानामशुभावहः ।

prājātyṃ ca nakṣatrṃrohiṇīṃkaśaśinḥpriyām ||6.103.33|| samākramyabudhastasthauprajānāmaśubhāvahḥ |

Translation

प्राजापत्यम् Prajapathi the Lord of creation, नक्षत्रम् star, शशिनः moon, प्रियाम् comes closer, रोहिणीम् Rohini, बुधः Budha, आक्रम्य takes over, प्रजानाम् people, अशुभावहः spells bad luck, तस्थौ similarly

When the planet Budha comes closer to the Rohini planet presided over by the Lord of creation, people predict bad luck.

सधूमपरिवृत्तोर्मिःप्रज्वलन्निवसागरः ।।6.103.34।। उत्पपाततदाक्रुद्धस्स्पृशन्निवदिवाकरम् ।

सधूमपरिवृत्तोर्मिः waves covered by mist (Dhumakethu) turning round, प्रज्वलन्निव as though going to touch the radiant sun, सागरः ocean, तदा then, क्रुद्धः enraged, दिवाकरम् sun, स्स्पृशन्निव as though to touch, उत्पपात rose high

The Sun seemed without radiance like the colour of weapon (grey), in the form of Kabhanda (headless trunk), combined with Dhumakethu.

कोसलानां च नक्षत्रंव्यक्तमिन्द्राग्निदैवतम् ।।6.103.36।। आक्रम्याङ्गारकस्तस्थौविशाखामपिचाम्बरे ।

kosalānāṃ ca nakṣatrṃvyaktamindrāgnidaivatam ||6.103.36|| ākramyāṅgārakastasthauviśākhāmapicāmbare |

Translation

अम्बरे in the sky, अङ्गारकः Angaraka (Mars), ऐन्द्राग्निदैवतम् presided over by Indra and Agni, कोसलानाम् Kosala, नक्षत्रम् star, विशाखाम् Visakha, आक्रम्य united with, तस्थौ stood

Meaning

In the sky, the planet Mars too stood in constellation with Visakha star presided over by gods Indra and Agni in heaven, which was propitious for the kosala kings.

YK-103-37Yuddha Kanda 103.37

दशास्योविंशतिभुजःप्रगृहीतशरासनः ।।6.103.37।। अदृशास्यःदशग्रीवःमैनाकःपर्वतःइव

daśāsyoviṃśatibhujḥpragṛhītaśarāsanḥ ||6.103.37|| adṛśāsyḥdaśagrīvḥmainākḥparvatḥiva

Translation

दशास्यः ten heads, विंशतिभुजः twenty arms, प्रगृहीतशरासनः seizing hold of bow, दशग्रीवः ten headed, मैनाकःपर्वतः इव like Mynaka mountain, अदृश्यत appeared

Meaning

Ravana with ten heads and twenty arms seizing his bow appeared like the Mynaka mountain.

YK-103-38Yuddha Kanda 103.38

निरस्यमानोरामस्तुदशग्रीवेणरक्षसा ।।6.103.38।। नाशक्नोदभिसन्धातुंसायकान्रणमूर्धनि ।

nirasyamānorāmastudaśagrīveṇarakṣasā ||6.103.38|| nāśaknodabhisandhātuṃsāyakānraṇamūrdhani |

Translation

रक्षसा Rakshasa, दशग्रीवेण with ten necks, रणमूर्धनि in the forefront of battle, निरस्यमानःnot had opportunity, रामः for Rama, सायकान् weapons, अभिसन्धातुम् even to fix, नाशक्नोत् not feasible

Meaning

While Ravana with ten heads and arms was ready in the forefront of the battle, Sri Rama had no possibility to fix his arrows.
