KK-50-1Kishkindha Kanda 50.1

सह ताराङ्गदाभ्यां तु सङ्गम्य हनुमान्कपिः। विचिनोति स्म विन्ध्यस्य गुहाश्च गहनानि च।।4.50.1।।

saha tārāṅgadābhyāṃ tu saṅgamya hanumānkapiḥ| vicinoti sma vindhyasya guhāśca gahanāni ca||4.50.1||

Translation

कपिः Monkey, हनुमान् Hanuman, ताराङ्गदाभ्यां सह along with Tara and Angada, सङ्गम्य together with, विन्ध्यस्य Vindhya, गुहाश्च caves, गहनानि च and impenetrable places, विचिनोति स्म searched for.

Meaning

Hanuman, together with the monkeys, Tara and Angada, searched in the impenetrable places and caves of Vindhya.

KK-50-2Kishkindha Kanda 50.2

सिंहशार्दूलजुष्टेषु शिलाश्च सरितस्तदा। विषमेषु नगेन्द्रस्य महाप्रस्रवणेषु च।।4.50.2।।

siṃhaśārdūlajuṣṭeṣu śilāśca saritastadā| viṣameṣu nagendrasya mahāprasravaṇeṣu ca||4.50.2||

Translation

तदा then, सरितः rivers, सिंहशार्दूलजुष्टेषु inhabited by lions and tigers, शिलाश्च rocks, नगेन्द्रस्य vast mountain, विषमेषु in difficult spots, महाप्रस्रवणेषु च near mountain streams also.

Meaning

They also searched near rivers, mountain streams, hill ranges, caves of lions and tigers, in the rock shelters and difficult spots of vast mountains.

KK-50-3Kishkindha Kanda 50.3

आसेदुस्तस्य शैलस्य कोटिं दक्ष्णिपश्चिमाम्। तेषां तत्रैव वसतां स कालो व्यत्यवर्तत।।4.50.3।।

āsedustasya śailasya koṭiṃ dakṣṇipaścimām| teṣāṃ tatraiva vasatāṃ sa kālo vyatyavartata||4.50.3||

Translation

तस्य शैलस्य that mountain's, दक्ष्णिपश्चिमाम् southwest side, कोटिम् end of, आसेदुः reached, तेषाम् for them, तत्रैव while being there, वसताम् while they stayed, सः कालः that time, व्यत्यवर्तत slipped.

Meaning

They reached the end of the southwest side of the mountain(Vindhya). While they were still there, the time stipulated for them (to find Sita) had slipped.

KK-50-4Kishkindha Kanda 50.4

स हि देशो दुरन्वेषो गुहागहनवान्महान्। तत्र वायुसुतस्सर्वं विचिनोति स्म पर्वतम्।।4.50.4।।

sa hi deśo duranveṣo guhāgahanavānmahān| tatra vāyusutassarvṃ vicinoti sma parvatam||4.50.4||

Translation

गुहागहनवान् a difficult mountain range, caves and woods, महान् great, सः देशः that place, दुरन्वेषः difficult to search in, वायुसुतः son of the Windgod, तत्र there, सर्वम् all, पर्वतम् mountains, विचिनोति स्म had searched.

Meaning

The son of the Windgod, Hanuman, searched all over the mountains and caves and woods difficult to access in that southwestern region of the mountain.

KK-50-5-7Kishkindha Kanda 50.5–7 (त्रिकम्)

परस्परेण हनुमा नन्योन्यस्याविदूरतः। गजो गवाक्षो गवयश्शरभो गन्धमादनः।।4.50.5।। मैन्दश्च द्विविदश्चैव सुषेणो जाम्बवान्नल:। अङ्गदो युवराजश्च तारश्च वनगोचरः।।4.50.6।। गिरिजालावृतान्देशान्मार्गित्वा दक्षिणां दिशम्। विचिन्वन्तस्ततस्तत्र ददृशुर्विवृतं बिलम्।।4.50.7।। दुर्गमृक्षबिलं नाम दानवेनाभिरक्षितम्।

paraspareṇa hanumā nanyonyasyāvidūratḥ| gajo gavākṣo gavayaśśarabho gandhamādanḥ||4.50.5|| maindaśca dvividaścaiva suṣeṇo jāmbavānnala:| aṅgado yuvarājaśca tāraśca vanagocarḥ||4.50.6|| girijālāvṛtāndeśānmārgitvā dakṣiṇāṃ diśam| vicinvantastatastatra dadṛśurvivṛtṃ bilam||4.50.7|| durgamṛkṣabilṃ nāma dānavenābhirakṣitam|

Translation

गजः Gaja, गवाक्षः Gavaksha, गवयः Gavaya, शरभः Sarabha, गन्धमादनः Gandhamadana, मैन्दश्च Mainda, द्विविदश्चैव Dvivida also, सुषेणः Sushena, जाम्बवान् Jambavan, युवराजः heir apparent, अङ्गदश्च Angada too, वनगोचरः forest dweller, तारश्च and Tara too, परस्परेण close to one another, हनूमान् Hanuman, अन्योन्यस्य one with the other, अविदूरतः not far away from one, गिरिजालावृतान् surrounded by a network of mountains, देशान् locations, मार्गित्वा having searched, दक्षिणां दिशम् southern direction, ततः then, विचिन्वन्तः while exploring, तत्र there, दानवेन by a demon, अभिरक्षितम् guarded by, दुर्गम् large, ऋक्षबिलं नाम called Rikshabilam, विवृतम् open, बिलम् mouth of the cave, ददृशुः they saw.

Meaning

Having explored the region surrounded by a network of mountains, Gaja, Gavaksha, Gavaya, Sarabha, Gandhamadana, Mainda and also Dvivida, Sushena, Jambavan, Angada the heir apparent, Tara the forestdweller staying close to one another and Hanuman too not far from the others searched in the southern direction. While they were exploring, they saw the mouth of a large cave called Rikshabilam, which had its mouth open, guarded by a demon.

KK-50-8Kishkindha Kanda 50.8

क्षुत्पिपासापरीताश्च श्रान्ताश्च सलिलार्थिनः।।4.50.8।। अवकीर्णं लतावृक्षैर्ददृशुस्ते महाबिलम्।

kṣutpipāsāparītāśca śrāntāśca salilārthinḥ||4.50.8|| avakīrṇṃ latāvṛkṣairdadṛśuste mahābilam|

Translation

क्षुत्पिपासापरीताः overcome by hunger and thirst, श्रान्ताः tired out, सलिलार्थिनः (desperately) looking for water, ते they, लतावृक्षैः with creepers and bushes, अवकीर्णम् spread with creepers and trees, महाबिलम् huge cave, ददृशुः saw.

Meaning

Overcome with hunger and thirst, the exhausted monkeys noticed a huge cave covered with creepers and bushes, while they were looking around for water.

KK-50-9Kishkindha Kanda 50.9

तत्र क्रौञ्चाश्च हंसाश्च सारसाश्च विनिष्क्रमन्।।4.50.9।। जलार्द्राश्चक्रवाकाश्च रक्ताङ्गा: पद्मरेणुभिः।

tatra krauñcāśca hṃsāśca sārasāśca viniṣkraman||4.50.9|| jalārdrāścakravākāśca raktāṅgā: padmareṇubhiḥ|

Translation

तत्र there, क्रौञ्चाश्च kraunchas, हंसाश्च swans, सारसाश्च geese, जलार्द्राः drenched in water, पद्मरेणुभिः covered by the pollen of lotuses, रक्ताङ्गाः wings red in colour, चक्रवाकाश्च chakravakas, विनिष्क्रमन् flying out of it.

Meaning

Just then, the kraunchas, swans, geese and chakravaka drenched in water with their limbs reddened with the pollen of lotuses were fluttering out (of the cave).

KK-50-10Kishkindha Kanda 50.10

ततस्तद्बिलमासाद्य सुगन्धि दुरतिक्रमम्।।4.50.10।। विस्मयव्यग्रमनसो बभूवुर्वानरर्षभाः।

tatastadbilamāsādya sugandhi duratikramam||4.50.10|| vismayavyagramanaso babhūvurvānararṣabhāḥ|

Translation

ततः then, वानरर्षभाः bulls among monkeys, सुगन्धि fragrant, दुरतिक्रमम् difficult to enter, तत् that, बिलम् cave, आसाद्य reached, विस्मयव्यग्रमनसः bewildered, बभूवुः became.

Meaning

The bulls among the monkeys were bewildered when they reached the cave which was difficult to access.

KK-50-11Kishkindha Kanda 50.11

संञ्जातपरिशङ्कास्ते तद्बिलं प्लवगोत्तमाः।।4.50.11।। अभ्यपद्यन्त संहृष्टास्तेजोवन्तो महाबलाः।

sṃñjātapariśaṅkāste tadbilṃ plavagottamāḥ||4.50.11|| abhyapadyanta sṃhṛṣṭāstejovanto mahābalāḥ|

Translation

तेजोवन्तः brilliant, महाबलाः forces, ते those, प्लवगोत्तमाः best of the monkeys, सञ्जातपरिशङ्काः afraid, संहृष्टाः they felt happy, तत् बिलम् that cave, अभ्यपद्यन्त that was difficult to enter.

Meaning

The brilliant host of monkeys experienced both fear and joy to see the cave difficult to enter.

KK-50-12Kishkindha Kanda 50.12

नानासत्त्वसमाकीर्णं दैत्येन्द्रनिलयोपमम्।।4.50.12।। दुर्दर्शमतिघोरं च दुर्विगाहं च सर्वशः।

nānāsattvasamākīrṇṃ daityendranilayopamam||4.50.12|| durdarśamatighorṃ ca durvigāhṃ ca sarvaśḥ|

Translation

नानासत्त्वसमाकीर्णम् crowded with different kinds of creatures, दैत्येन्द्रनिलयोपमम् looked like the abode of king of the demons, दुर्दर्शम् fearful to look at, अति घोरम् highly dreadful, सर्वशः all over, दुर्विगाह्यं च and inaccessible.

Meaning

The cave was crowded with creatures of different kinds. It looked like the abode of the king of demons difficult (to enter), dreadful and impenetrable.

KK-50-13Kishkindha Kanda 50.13

तत: पर्वतकूटाभो हनूमान्पवनात्मजः।।4.50.13।। अब्रवीद्वानरान्सर्वान्कान्तारवनकोविदः।

tata: parvatakūṭābho hanūmānpavanātmajḥ||4.50.13|| abravīdvānarānsarvānkāntāravanakovidḥ|

Translation

ततः then, पर्वतकूटाभः a being as huge as a mountain, कान्तारवनकोविदः knowledgeable of dense forests, पवनात्मजः son of the windgod, हनूमान् Hanuman, सर्वान् all, वानरान् monkeys, अब्रवीत् said:

Meaning

Then Hanuman, son of the Windgod who appeared like a huge mountain and knew about forests spoke to the fellowmonkeys:

KK-50-14Kishkindha Kanda 50.14

गिरिजालावृतान्देशान्मार्गित्वा दक्षिणां दिशम्।।4.50.14।। वयं सर्वे परिश्रान्ता न च पश्याम मैथिलीम्।

girijālāvṛtāndeśānmārgitvā dakṣiṇāṃ diśam||4.50.14|| vayṃ sarve pariśrāntā na ca paśyāma maithilīm|

Translation

वयम् we, सर्वे all, गिरिजालावृतान् having covered all the mountain ranges, देशान् places, मार्गित्वा having searched, दक्षिणां दिशम् southern side, परिश्रान्ताः exhausted, मैथिलीम् Maithili, न च पश्याम not see.

Meaning

'Going round the places covering all mountain ranges in the southern direction, we are spent. But we could not see Maithili.

KK-50-15-16Kishkindha Kanda 50.15–16 (युग्मम्)

अस्माच्चापि बिलाद्धंसाः क्रौञ्चाश्च सह सारसैः।।4.50.15।। जलार्द्राश्चक्रवाकाश्च निष्पतन्ति स्म सर्वशः। नूनं सलिलवानत्र कूपो वा यदि वा ह्रदः।।4.50.16।। तथा चेमे बिलद्वारि स्निग्धास्तिष्ठन्ति पादपाः।

asmāccāpi bilāddhṃsāḥ krauñcāśca saha sārasaiḥ||4.50.15|| jalārdrāścakravākāśca niṣpatanti sma sarvaśḥ| nūnṃ salilavānatra kūpo vā yadi vā hradḥ||4.50.16|| tathā ceme biladvāri snigdhāstiṣṭhanti pādapāḥ|

Translation

अस्मात् from this, बिलात् cave, हंसाः swans, सारसैः सह with sarasas, क्रौञ्चाश्च and kraunchas, जलार्द्राः drenched in water, चक्रवाकाश्च chakravakas also, सर्वशः all over, निष्पतन्ति स्म emerging, अत्र here, सलिलवान् abundant water, कूपो वा well or, यदि वा so also, ह्रदः a pond, नूनम् surely, तथा like that, इमे these, बिलद्वारि at the entrance of the cave, पादपाः trees, स्निग्धाः shining, तिष्ठन्ति are present.

Meaning

'From this cave have emerged several birds like sarasas, swans, kraunchas and chakravakas drenched in water. Surely there must be a source of plenty of water or well or a pond. Moreover there are shining( green) trees at the entrance of the cave (suggesting subsoil water).'

KK-50-17Kishkindha Kanda 50.17

इत्युक्त्वा तद्बिलं सर्वे विविशुस्तिमिरावृतम्।।4.50.17।। अचन्द्रसूर्यं हरयो ददृशू रोमहर्षणम्।

ityuktvā tadbilṃ sarve viviśustimirāvṛtam||4.50.17|| acandrasūryṃ harayo dadṛśū romaharṣaṇam|

Translation

इति thus, उक्त्वा having been told, सर्वे all, तिमिरावृतम् filled with darkness, तत् बिलम् that cave, विविशुः entered, हरयः monkeys, अचन्द्रसूर्यम् where there is no Moon or Sun light, रोमहर्षणम् horripilating, ददृशुः saw.

Meaning

On hearing him, the monkeys entered the cave full of darkness. There was no light of the Moon or the Sun. It was a horripilating experience.

KK-50-18Kishkindha Kanda 50.18

निशाम्य तस्मात् शिंहांश्च तांस्तांश्च मृगपक्ष्णिः।।4.50.18।। प्रविष्टा हरिशार्दूला बिलं तिमिरसंवृतम्।

niśāmya tasmāt śiṃhāṃśca tāṃstāṃśca mṛgapakṣṇiḥ||4.50.18|| praviṣṭā hariśārdūlā bilṃ timirasṃvṛtam|

Translation

हरिशार्दूलाः tigers among monkeys, तस्मात् from, सिंहांश्च lions, तांस्तान् various types of, मृगपक्ष्णिः beasts and birds, निशाम्य after hearing their sounds, तिमिरसंवृतम् full of darkness, बिलम् cave, प्रविष्टाः entered.

Meaning

The tigers among the monkeys entered the dark cave reverberating with the sounds of lions, beasts and birds.

KK-50-19Kishkindha Kanda 50.19

न तेषां सज्जते चक्षुर्न तेजो न पराक्रमः।।4.50.19।। वायोरिव गतिस्तेषां दृष्टिस्तमसि वर्तते।

na teṣāṃ sajjate cakṣurna tejo na parākramḥ||4.50.19|| vāyoriva gatisteṣāṃ dṛṣṭistamasi vartate|

Translation

तेषाम् their, चक्षु: eyes, न not, सज्जते was uninterrupted, तेजः brilliance, न not, पराक्रमः valour, न not, तेषाम् their, गतिः way, वायोरिव like the wind, दृष्टिः sight, तमसि in darkness, वर्तते moved

Meaning

The monkeys could not fix their eyes anywhere.Their lustre or valour could not help them. They moved like wind uninterrupted and their vision was lost in darkness.

KK-50-20Kishkindha Kanda 50.20

ते प्रविष्टास्तु वेगेन तद्बिलं कपिकुञ्जराः।।4.50.20।। प्रकाशमभिरामं च ददृशुर्देशमुत्तमम्।

te praviṣṭāstu vegena tadbilṃ kapikuñjarāḥ||4.50.20|| prakāśamabhirāmṃ ca dadṛśurdeśamuttamam|

Translation

तत् बिलम् that cave, वेगेन quickly, प्रविष्टाः they entered, ते कपिकुञ्जराः those elephantlike monkeys, प्रकाशं च bright light, अभिरामं च delighting, उत्तमम् excellent, देशम् place, ददृशुः saw.

Meaning

As the elephantlike monkeys entered the cave quickly, they saw bright light and an excellent delightful place.

KK-50-21Kishkindha Kanda 50.21

ततस्तस्मिन्बिले दुर्गे नानापादपसङ्कुले।।4.50.21।। अन्योन्यं सम्परिष्वज्य जग्मुर्योजनमन्तरम्।

tatastasminbile durge nānāpādapasaṅkule||4.50.21|| anyonyṃ sampariṣvajya jagmuryojanamantaram|

Translation

ततः then, अन्योन्यम् one another, सम्परिष्वज्य after holding on, दुर्गे in the dense, नानापादपसङ्कुले in a place filled with several kinds of trees, तस्मिन् बिले in that cave, योजनम् yojana, अन्तरम् inside, जग्मुः went.

Meaning

Holding one another's hands, they went in for a distance of one yojana inside the cave that was densely covered with several kinds of trees.

KK-50-22Kishkindha Kanda 50.22

ते नष्टसंज्ञास्तृषितास्सम्भ्रान्तास्सलिलार्थिनः।।4.50.22।। परिपेतुर्बिले तस्मिन्कञ्चित्कालमतन्द्रिताः।

te naṣṭasṃjñāstṛṣitāssambhrāntāssalilārthinḥ||4.50.22|| paripeturbile tasminkañcitkālamatandritāḥ|

Translation

नष्टसंज्ञाः they nearly lost consciousness, तृषिताः thirsty ones, सम्भ्रान्ताः bewildered ones, सलिलार्थिनः they were desperate for water, ते they, अतन्द्रिताः without feeling lazy, तस्मिन् in that, बिले in the cave, कञ्चित्कालम् for a while, परिपेतुः wandered.

Meaning

Having nearly lost their senses (without water to drink), the thirsty and bewildered monkeys were desperate for water.They wandered in the cave without feeling lazy for some time.

KK-50-23Kishkindha Kanda 50.23

ते कृशा दीनवदनाः परिश्रान्ताः प्लवङ्गमाः।।4.50.23।। आलोकं ददृशुर्वीरा निराशा जीविते यदा।

te kṛśā dīnavadanāḥ pariśrāntāḥ plavaṅgamāḥ||4.50.23|| ālokṃ dadṛśurvīrā nirāśā jīvite yadā|

Translation

कृशाः weakened, दीनवदनाः having dejected faces, परिश्रान्ताः exhausted ones, ते they, वीराः heroes, प्लवङ्गमाः monkeys, यदा when, जीविते in life, निराशाः desperate, आलोकम् light, ददृशुः beheld.

Meaning

Exhausted and enfeebled, they saw with dejected faces a gleam of light at a time when they were desparate.

KK-50-24-28Kishkindha Kanda 50.24–28 (कुलकम्)

ततस्तं देशमागम्य सौम्या वितिमिरं वनम्।।4.50.24।। ददृशुः काञ्चनान्वृक्षान्दीप्तवैश्वानरप्रभान्। सालां स्तालांश्च पुन्नागान्ककुभान्वञ्जुलान्धवान्।।4.50.25।। चम्पकान् नागवृक्षांश्च कर्णिकारांश्च पुष्पितान्। स्तबकैः काञ्चनैश्चित्रै रक्तै: किसलयैस्तथा।।4.50.26।। आपीडैश्च लताभिश्च हेमाभरणभूषितान्। तरुणादित्यसङ्काशान्वैढूर्यकृतवेदिकान्।।4.50.27।। विभ्राजमानान्वपुषा पादपांश्च हिरण्मयान्। नीलवैढूर्यवर्णाश्च पद्मिनीः पतगावृताः।।4.50.28।। महद्भि: काञ्चनैः पद्मैर्वृता बालार्कसन्निभैः।

Translation

सौम्याः gentle ones, ततः then, तं देशम् place, आगम्य having reached, वितिमिरम् devoid of darkness, वनम् forest, दीप्तवैश्वानरप्रभाम् light of burning fire, काञ्चनान् golden, वृक्षान् trees, सालान् salas, तालान् talas, तमालांश्च tamalas, पुन्नागान् punnagas, वञ्जुलान् vanjjulas, धवान् dhavas, चम्पकान् champakas, नागवृक्षांश्च naga trees, पुष्पितान् blossomed, कर्णिकारांश्च Karnikas also, काञ्चनैः golden, चित्रैः wonderful, स्तबकैः bunches, तथा so also, रक्तै: red ones, किसलयैः tender leaves, आपीडैः entwining, लताभिश्च with creepers, हेमाभरणभूषितान् adorned with golden ornaments, तरुणादित्यसङ्काशान् looking like effulgent rising Sun, वैदूर्यमयवेदिकान् raised structures encrusted with precious stones of Vaiduryas, वपुषा with their appearance, विभ्राजमानान् dazzling, हिरण्मयान् full of gold, पादपांश्च and trees, नीलवैदूर्यवर्णाः of the colours of sapphires and vaiduryas, पतगैः with birds, वृताः filled, बालार्कसन्निभैः by those looking like the rising Sun, काञ्चनैः with golden, महद्भि: by enchanting ones, पद्मैः lotuses, वृताः surrounded, पद्मिनीः lotus ponds, ददृशुः saw.

Meaning

Having reached inside the cave the monkeys saw a forest shining like blazing fire, dispelling the surrounding darkness. There they noticed sala, tala, tamala, punnaga, vanjjula, dhava, champaka, and naga trees. They also saw blossoming plants of Karnikara, bunches of beautiful golden flowers and tender redcoloured leaves.They saw wonderful trees with creepers on top entwining them, and ornamented with gold (like golden fruits), radiant like the dazzling rising Sun. There were altars encrusted with precious sapphire and vaidurya. The golden trees were shining bright. There were lotus creepers looking like sapphire and vaidurya.The ponds were filled with golden lotuses and were surrounded by birds.

KK-50-29Kishkindha Kanda 50.29

जातरूपमयैर्मत्स्यैर्महद्भिश्च सकच्छपैः।।4.50.29।। नळिनीस्तत्र ददृशुः प्रसन्नसलिलावृताः।

jātarūpamayairmatsyairmahadbhiśca sakacchapaiḥ||4.50.29|| naळinīstatra dadṛśuḥ prasannasalilāvṛtāḥ|

Translation

सः that, जातरूपमयैः with those golden ones, मत्स्यैः with fish, महद्भि with huge, अथ and then, कच्छपैः with tortoises, प्रसन्नसलिलावृताः filled with pellucid water, नलिनीः lotus creepers, तत्र ददृशुः saw there.

Meaning

There they saw golden fishes and huge tortoises in the pellucid water of the tank filled with lotus creepers.

KK-50-30-31Kishkindha Kanda 50.30–31 (युग्मम्)

काञ्चनानि विमानानि राजतानि तथैव च।।4.50.30।। तपनीयगवाक्षाणि मुक्ताजालावृतानि च। हैमराजतभौमानि वैदूर्यमणिमन्ति च।।4.50.31।। ददृशुस्तत्र हरयो गृहमुख्यानि सर्वशः।

kāñcanāni vimānāni rājatāni tathaiva ca||4.50.30|| tapanīyagavākṣāṇi muktājālāvṛtāni ca| haimarājatabhaumāni vaidūryamaṇimanti ca||4.50.31|| dadṛśustatra harayo gṛhamukhyāni sarvaśḥ|

Translation

हरयः monkeys, तत्र there, काञ्चनानि golden, तथैव similarly, राजतानि silver, विमानानि highrise palaces, तपनीयगवाक्षाणि golden windows (shaped like cow's eye fixed on the roofs and walls), मुक्ताजालावृतानि च covered with lattices of pearls, हैमराजतभौमानि made of gold, silver and mud (earth), वैदुर्यमणिमन्ति च decorated with precious gems of vaidurya, गृहमुख्यानि beautiful houses, सर्वशः all over, ददृशुः they saw.

Meaning

The vanaras beheld highrise palaces built with gold and silver. The windows fixed on the roof were golden, shaped like cow's eye with lattices of pearls. They also saw best of houses built in gold, silver and clay, decorated with precious gems including vaidurya.

KK-50-32Kishkindha Kanda 50.32

पुष्पितान्फलिनो वृक्षान्प्रवाळमणिसन्निभान्।।4.50.32।। काञ्चनभ्रमरांश्चैव मधूनि च समन्ततः।

puṣpitānphalino vṛkṣānpravāळmaṇisannibhān||4.50.32|| kāñcanabhramarāṃścaiva madhūni ca samantatḥ|

Translation

पुष्पितान् blossomed, फलिनः with ripe fruits, प्रवालमणिसन्निभान् trees bright like corals, वृक्षान् trees, काञ्चनभ्रमरांश्चैव golden bees also, मधूनि च and different kinds of honey, समन्ततः all over.

Meaning

They saw trees bright like corals in full bloom and ripe fruits. Golden bees were found hovering around making all kinds of honey.

KK-50-33-34Kishkindha Kanda 50.33–34 (युग्मम्)

मणिकाञ्चनचित्राणि शयनान्यासनानि च।।4.50.33।। महार्हाणि चयानानि ददृशुस्ते समन्ततः। हैमराजतकांस्यानां भाजनानां च संञ्चयान्।।4.50.34।।

maṇikāñcanacitrāṇi śayanānyāsanāni ca||4.50.33|| mahārhāṇi cayānāni dadṛśuste samantatḥ| haimarājatakāṃsyānāṃ bhājanānāṃ ca sṃñcayān||4.50.34||

Translation

ते they, मणिकाञ्चनचित्राणि wonderfully shining with gems and gold, महार्हाणि highly valuable ones, च also, यानानि vehicles, शयनानि beds, आसनानि च and couches, हैमराजतकांस्यानाम् made of gold, silver and bronze, भाजनानाम् of utensils, संञ्चयान् च collections, समन्ततः all over, ददृशुः they saw.

Meaning

They saw all over rich collections of beds, couches and highly valuable vehicles, decorated beautifully with gems and gold.They also saw a large collection of shining utensils made of gold, silver and bronze.

KK-50-35Kishkindha Kanda 50.35

अगरूणां च दिव्यानां चन्दनानां च संञ्चायान्। शुचीन्यभ्यवहार्याणि मूलानि च फलानि च।।4.50.35।।

agarūṇāṃ ca divyānāṃ candanānāṃ ca sṃñcāyān| śucīnyabhyavahāryāṇi mūlāni ca phalāni ca||4.50.35||

Translation

दिव्यानाम् of wonderful, अगरूणाम् of incense, चन्दनानाम् of sandal, सञ्चयान् collections, शुचीनि pure, अभ्यवहार्याणि eatables, मूलानि च roots, फलानि च and fruits.

Meaning

There they noticed a wonderful collection of incense and sandal, tasty and pure eatables, roots and fruits

KK-50-36Kishkindha Kanda 50.36

महार्हाणि च पानानि मधूनि रसवन्ति च। दिव्यानामम्बराणां च महार्हाणां च सञ्चयान्।।4.50.36।। कम्बलानां च चित्राणामजिनानां च सञ्चयान्।

mahārhāṇi ca pānāni madhūni rasavanti ca| divyānāmambarāṇāṃ ca mahārhāṇāṃ ca sañcayān||4.50.36|| kambalānāṃ ca citrāṇāmajinānāṃ ca sañcayān|

Translation

महार्हाणि very rich, पानानि drinks, रसवन्ति tasty, मधूनि many kinds of honey, दिव्यानाम् wonderful, महार्हाणाम् of valuable ones, अम्बराणाम् of clothes, सञ्चयान् च and collections, चित्राणाम् of colourful, कम्बलानां च of blankets, अजिनानां च of animal skins, सञ्चयान् collection.

Meaning

(They found) excellent drinks and many kinds of honey, wonderful collections of clothes, colourful blankets and heaps of animal skin.

KK-50-37Kishkindha Kanda 50.37

तत्र तत्र च विन्यस्तान्दीप्तान्वैश्वानरप्रभान्।।4.50.37।। ददृशुर्वानराश्शुभ्राञ्जातरूपस्य सञ्चयान्।

tatra tatra ca vinyastāndīptānvaiśvānaraprabhān||4.50.37|| dadṛśurvānarāśśubhrāñjātarūpasya sañcayān|

Translation

वानराः monkeys, तत्र तत्र here and there, विन्यस्तान् placed, दीप्तान् glittering, वैश्वानरप्रभान् like blazing fire, शुभ्रान् pure, जातरूपस्य gold, सञ्चयान् collections, ददृशुः observed.

Meaning

The monkeys marked here and there a collection of gold, glittering like blazing fire.

KK-50-38Kishkindha Kanda 50.38

तत्र तत्र विचिन्वन्तो बिले तस्मिन्महाबलाः।।4.50.38।। ददृशुर्वानराश्शूराः स्त्रियं काञ्चिददूरतः।

tatra tatra vicinvanto bile tasminmahābalāḥ||4.50.38|| dadṛśurvānarāśśūrāḥ striyṃ kāñcidadūratḥ|

Translation

महाबलाः strong, शूराः powerful, वानराः monkeys, तस्मिन्बिले in that cave, तत्र तत्र here and there, विचिन्वन्तः while they searched, अदूरतः not far from there, काञ्चित् some, स्त्रियम् woman, ददृशुः saw.

Meaning

While searching here and there in the cave, the strong and powerful monkeys discovered a woman not far from there.

KK-50-39Kishkindha Kanda 50.39

तां दृष्ट्वा भृशसन्त्रस्ताश्चीरकृष्णाजिनाम्बराम्।।4.50.39।। तापसीं नियताहारां ज्वलन्तीमिव तेजसा।

tāṃ dṛṣṭvā bhṛśasantrastāścīrakṛṣṇājināmbarām||4.50.39|| tāpasīṃ niyatāhārāṃ jvalantīmiva tejasā|

Translation

दृष्ट्वा on seeing, तां her, चीरकृष्णाजिनाम्बराम् wearing deer skin and bark robes, नियताहाराम् restricted food, तेजसा with lustre, ज्वलन्तीमिव as if glowing, तापसीम् a female ascetic, भृशसन्त्रस्ता very much frightened.

Meaning

She was an ascetic in bark robes and deer skin blazing with lustre, restrained in her food. The monkeys got very frightened.

KK-50-40Kishkindha Kanda 50.40

विस्मिता हरयस्तत्र व्यवतिष्ठन्त सर्वशः।।4.50.40।। पप्रच्छ हनुमांस्तत्र काऽसि त्वं कस्य वा बिलम्।

vismitā harayastatra vyavatiṣṭhanta sarvaśḥ||4.50.40|| papraccha hanumāṃstatra kā'si tvṃ kasya vā bilam|

Translation

हरयः monkeys, विस्मिताः amazed, तत्र there, सर्वशः all over, व्यवतिष्ठन्त stopped, तत्र there, हनुमान् Hanuman, पप्रच्छ enquired, त्वम् you, का असि who are, बिलम् cave, कस्य वा whose is it?

Meaning

The amazed monkeys stopped there. Hanuman enquired, 'Who are you? Whose cave is this'?

KK-50-41Kishkindha Kanda 50.41

ततो हनूमान्गिरिसन्निकाशः कृताज्ञलिस्तामभिवाद्य वृद्धाम्। पप्रच्छ का त्वं भवनं बिलं च रत्नानि चेमानि वदस्व कस्य।।4.50.41।।

tato hanūmāngirisannikāśḥ kṛtājñalistāmabhivādya vṛddhām| papraccha kā tvṃ bhavanṃ bilṃ ca ratnāni cemāni vadasva kasya||4.50.41||

Translation

ततः then, गिरिसन्निकाशः resembling a mountain in size, हनूमान् Hanuman, कृताञ्जलिः offered salutations with folded palms, तां वृद्धाम् to that old lady, अभिवाद्य having greeted, पप्रच्छ enquired, त्वम् you, का who, भवनम् this mansion, बिलं च and cave, इमानि these, रत्नानि च gems, कस्य whose, वदस्व tell.

Meaning

Then Hanuman who was of the size of a mountain greeted the old lady with folded hands and enquired her 'Who are you? To whom does this mansion, this cave and these gems belong?' इत्यार्षे श्रीमद्रामायणे वाल्मीकीय आदिकाव्ये किष्किन्धाकाण्डे पञ्चाशस्सर्गः।। Thus ends of fiftieth sarga in Kishkindakanda of the first epic of the Holy Ramayana composed by sage Valmiki.
