वनानि गिरयो नद्यो दुर्गाणि गहनानि च। दर्यो गिरिगुहाश्चैव विचितानि समन्ततः।।4.49.2।। तत्र तत्र सहास्माभिर्जानकी न च दृश्यते। तद्वा रक्षो हृता येन सीता सुरसुतोपमा।।4.49.3।।
vanāni girayo nadyo durgāṇi gahanāni ca| daryo giriguhāścaiva vicitāni samantatḥ||4.49.2|| tatra tatra sahāsmābhirjānakī na ca dṛśyate| tadvā rakṣo hṛtā yena sītā surasutopamā||4.49.3||
Translation
अस्माभिः by all of us, सह along with, वनानि forests, गिरयः the mountains, नद्यः the rivers, दुर्गाणि inaccessible forts, गहनानि च dense, दर्यः caves, गिरिगुहाश्चैव and the mountain ranges also, समन्ततः all over, तत्र तत्र everywhere, विचितानि searched, जानकी Janaki, न दृश्यते is not seen, तदा then, सीता Sita, हृता येन by one who has stolen, सुरसुतोपमा one who is like a goddess, रक्षः च raksha, वा or.
Meaning
'We have searched here, there, everywhere, in dense forests, hills, forts, impenetrable caverns and mountain ranges. But we could find neither Janaki who is like a goddess nor the demon who abducted her.
