KK-38-1Kishkindha Kanda 38.1

प्रतिगृह्य च तत्सर्वमुपायनमुपाहृतम्। वानरान्सान्त्वयित्वा च सर्वानेव व्यसर्जयत्।।4.38.1।।

pratigṛhya ca tatsarvamupāyanamupāhṛtam| vānarānsāntvayitvā ca sarvāneva vyasarjayat||4.38.1||

Translation

उपाहृतम् presented, तत् that, सर्वम् all that, उपायनम् gifts, प्रतिगृह्य after taking, सान्त्वयित्वा च pleasing them, सर्वान् एव all of them, वानरान् monkeys, व्यसर्जयत् permitted to go.

Meaning

On receiving all the gifts presented by the monkeys, Sugriva permitted them to go happy.

KK-38-2Kishkindha Kanda 38.2

विसर्जयित्वा स हरीन् शूरांस्तान्कृतकर्मणः। मेने कृतार्थमात्मानं राघवं च महाबलम्।।4.38.2।।

visarjayitvā sa harīn śūrāṃstānkṛtakarmaṇḥ| mene kṛtārthamātmānṃ rāghavṃ ca mahābalam||4.38.2||

Translation

सः he, कृतकर्मणः those who have done the task asigned, शूरान् तान् those heroes, हरीन् the monkeys, विसर्जयित्वा after sending away, आत्मानम् himself, महाबलम् powerful, राघवं च and Rama, कृतार्थम् achieved, मेने felt.

Meaning

The monkey heroes sent by Sugriva performed the task assigned to them and felt powerful Rama's task has been achieved (a successful beginning has been made).

KK-38-3Kishkindha Kanda 38.3

स लक्ष्मणो भीमबलं सर्ववानरसत्तमम्। अब्रवीत्प्रश्रितं वाक्यं सुग्रीवं सम्प्रहर्षयन्।।4.38.3।। किष्किन्धाया विनिष्क्राम यदि ते सौम्य रोचते।

sa lakṣmaṇo bhīmabalṃ sarvavānarasattamam| abravītpraśritṃ vākyṃ sugrīvṃ sampraharṣayan||4.38.3|| kiṣkindhāyā viniṣkrāma yadi te saumya rocate|

Translation

सः लक्ष्मणः that Lakshmana, भीमबलम् of terrific strength, सर्ववानरसत्तमम् foremost among the monkeys, सुग्रीवम् Sugriva, सम्प्रहर्षयन् cheering, प्रश्रितम् humbly, वाक्यम् words, अब्रवीत् said, सौम्य O goodnatured, ते to you, रोचते यदि if it pleases, किष्किन्धायाः from Kishkinda, विनिष्क्राम depart.

Meaning

Cheering Sugriva, the foremost among the monkeys, the mighty Lakshmana said in a humble way: 'O goodnatured Sugriva if you would like to come to Rama let us depart from Kishkinda.

KK-38-4-5Kishkindha Kanda 38.4–5 (युग्मम्)

तस्य तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा लक्ष्मणस्य सुभाषितम्।।4.38.4।। सुग्रीवः परमप्रीतो वाक्यमेतदुवाच ह। एवं भवतु गच्छाव: स्थेयं त्वच्छासने मया।।4.38.5।।

tasya tadvacanṃ śrutvā lakṣmaṇasya subhāṣitam||4.38.4|| sugrīvḥ paramaprīto vākyametaduvāca ha| evṃ bhavatu gacchāva: stheyṃ tvacchāsane mayā||4.38.5||

Translation

सुग्रीवः Sugriva, सुभाषितम् gentle words, तस्यलक्ष्मणस्य of Lakshmana, तत् वचनम् those words, श्रुत्वा on hearing, परमप्रीतः highly pleased, एतत् this, वाक्यम् word, उवाच ह spoke, एवम् in that manner, भवतु let it be so, गच्छावः we both may go, मया to me, त्वच्छासने at your command, स्थेयम् I should stand.

Meaning

Hearing the gentle words of Lakshmana, spoken lovingly in that manner and asking him to come along with him, Sugriva was highly pleased.He agreed to go with him and said, 'As you please. I abide by your command'.

KK-38-6Kishkindha Kanda 38.6

तमेवमुक्त्वा सुग्रीवो लक्ष्मणं शुभलक्षणम्। विसर्जयामास तदा तारामन्याश्च योषितः।।4.38.6।।

tamevamuktvā sugrīvo lakṣmaṇṃ śubhalakṣaṇam| visarjayāmāsa tadā tārāmanyāśca yoṣitḥ||4.38.6||

Translation

सुग्रीवः Sugriva, शुभलक्षणम् auspicious signs, तं लक्ष्मणम् that Lakshmana, एवम् in such a way, उक्त्वा having spoken, तदा then, ताराम् to Tara, अन्याः योषितश्चैव other women also, विसर्जयामास despatched.

Meaning

Sugriva spoke to Lakshmana endowed with auspicious signs, and thereupon permitted Tara and other women to leave the place.

KK-38-7Kishkindha Kanda 38.7

एतेत्युच्चैर्हरिवरान्सुग्रीवस्समुदाहरत्। तस्य तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा हरयश्शीघ्रमाययुः।।4.38.7।। बद्धाञ्जलिपुटास्सर्वे ये स्युः स्त्रीदर्शनक्षमाः।

etetyuccairharivarānsugrīvassamudāharat| tasya tadvacanṃ śrutvā harayaśśīghramāyayuḥ||4.38.7|| baddhāñjalipuṭāssarve ye syuḥ strīdarśanakṣamāḥ|

Translation

सुग्रीवः Sugriva, एते you come, इति thus, उच्चैः loudly, हरिवरान् foremost of the monkeys, समुदाहरत् as he collected them, तस्य his, तत् that, वचनं श्रुत्वा on hearing the word, ये who, स्त्रीदर्शनक्षमाः female monkeys fit to see, स्युः they be, सर्वे all, हरयः monkeys, बद्धाञ्जलिपुटाः those with folded hands, शीघ्रम् quickly, आययुः came.

Meaning

Sugriva called in the monkeys who deserved audience of the female folk of the royal family. They came forward quickly with folded hands welcoming the heroes.

KK-38-8Kishkindha Kanda 38.8

तानुवाच ततः प्राप्तान्राजाऽर्कसदृशप्रभः।।4.38.8।। उपस्थापयत क्षिप्रं शिबिकां मम वानराः।

tānuvāca tatḥ prāptānrājā'rkasadṛśaprabhḥ||4.38.8|| upasthāpayata kṣiprṃ śibikāṃ mama vānarāḥ|

Translation

ततः then, अर्कसदृशप्रभः shining like the Sun, राजा king, प्राप्तान् those who came there, तान् them, उवाच said, वानराः monkeys, मम my, शिबिकाम् palanquin, क्षिप्रम् at once, उपस्थापयत get it here.

Meaning

Then seeing the monkeys who had come there, king Sugriva who was shining like the Sungod asked them to get a palanquin ready at once.

KK-38-9Kishkindha Kanda 38.9

श्रुत्वा तु वचनं तस्य हरयश्शीघ्रविक्रमाः।।4.38.9।। समुपस्थापयामासुश्शिबिकां प्रियदर्शनाम्।

śrutvā tu vacanṃ tasya harayaśśīghravikramāḥ||4.38.9|| samupasthāpayāmāsuśśibikāṃ priyadarśanām|

Translation

शीघ्रविक्रमाः those who were quick to act, हरयः monkeys, तस्य his, वचनम् words, श्रुत्वा after hearing, प्रियदर्शनाम् pleasing to see, शिबिकाम् palanquin, समुपस्थापयामासुः placed in front of him.

Meaning

On hearing the king, the monkeys who were quick to act placed a beautiful palanquin in front of him.

KK-38-10Kishkindha Kanda 38.10

तामुपस्थापितां दृष्ट्वा शिबिकां वानराधिपः।।4.38.10।। लक्ष्मणाऽरुह्यतां शीघ्रमिति सौमित्रिमब्रवीत्।

tāmupasthāpitāṃ dṛṣṭvā śibikāṃ vānarādhipḥ||4.38.10|| lakṣmaṇā'ruhyatāṃ śīghramiti saumitrimabravīt|

Translation

वानराधिपः chief of monkeys, उपस्थापिताम् was brought in, तां शिबिकाम् palanquin, दृष्ट्वा seeing, लक्ष्मण Lakshmana, शीघ्रम् quickly, आरुह्यताम् get on, इति thus, सौमित्रिम् to Saumithri, अब्रवत् said.

Meaning

Seeing the palanquin placed in front of Sugriva, the chief of the monkeys requested Lakshmana to get in quickly.

KK-38-11Kishkindha Kanda 38.11

इत्युक्त्वा काञ्चनं यानं सुग्रीवस्सूर्यसन्निभम्।।4.38.11।। बृहद्भिर्हरिभिर्युक्तमारुरोह सलक्ष्मणः।

ityuktvā kāñcanṃ yānṃ sugrīvassūryasannibham||4.38.11|| bṛhadbhirharibhiryuktamāruroha salakṣmaṇḥ|

Translation

सुग्रीवः Sugriva, इति thus, उक्त्वा having spoken, सूर्यसन्निभम् shining like the Sun, बृहद्भि: by the strong, हरिभिः by the monkeys, युक्तम् fit to be yoked, काञ्चनम् golden, यानम् that vehicle, सलक्ष्मणः along with Lakshmana, आरुरोह got in.

Meaning

With this Sugriva, shining like the Sungod, entered along with Lakshmana the golden palanquin carried by ablebodied monkeys.

KK-38-12-13Kishkindha Kanda 38.12–13 (युग्मम्)

पाण्डुरेणातपत्रेण म्रियमाणेन मूर्धनि।।4.38.12।। शुक्लैश्च वालव्यजनैर्धूयमानैस्समन्ततः। शङ्खभेरीनिनादैश्च हरिभिश्चाभिवन्दितः।।4.38.13।। निर्ययौ प्राप्य सुग्रीवो राज्यश्रियमनुत्तमाम्।

pāṇḍureṇātapatreṇa mriyamāṇena mūrdhani||4.38.12|| śuklaiśca vālavyajanairdhūyamānaissamantatḥ| śaṅkhabherīninādaiśca haribhiścābhivanditḥ||4.38.13|| niryayau prāpya sugrīvo rājyaśriyamanuttamām|

Translation

सुग्रीवः Sugriva, अनुत्तमाम् utmost, राज्यश्रियम् royal prosperity, प्राप्य having attained, हरिभिः by monkeys, अभिनन्दितः greeted, मूर्धनि over his head, ध्रियमाणेन holding, शुक्लेश्च पाण्डुरेण with pale white, आतपत्रेण by an umbrella, समन्ततः all over, धूयमानैः fanning, वालव्यजनैः made of yaktail, शङ्खभेरीनिनादैश्च by the sounds of conches and drums निर्ययौ set out.

Meaning

With a pale white umbrella over his head, white yaktail fans and sounds of conches and drums, Sugriva set out receiving greetings from monkeys, rejoicing in his royal glory.

KK-38-14Kishkindha Kanda 38.14

स वानरशतैस्तीक्ष्णैर्बहुभि श्शस्त्रपाणिभिः।।4.38.14।। परिकीर्णो ययौ तत्र यत्र रामो व्यवस्थितः।

sa vānaraśataistīkṣṇairbahubhi śśastrapāṇibhiḥ||4.38.14|| parikīrṇo yayau tatra yatra rāmo vyavasthitḥ|

Translation

सः he, शस्त्रपाणिभिः wielding weapons in hand, तीक्ष्णैः sharp, बहुभिः varied, वानरशतैः by hundreds of monkeys, परिकीर्णः surrounded by, रामः Rama, यत्र where, व्यवस्थितः resided, तत्र there, ययौ went forth.

Meaning

Surrounded by hundreds of monkeys wielding various sharp weapons, Sugriva went forth to the region where Rama resided৷৷

KK-38-15Kishkindha Kanda 38.15

स तं देशमनुप्राप्य श्रेष्ठं रामनिषेवितम्।।4.38.15।। अवातरन्महातेजा श्शिबिकायास्सलक्ष्मणः।

sa tṃ deśamanuprāpya śreṣṭhṃ rāmaniṣevitam||4.38.15|| avātaranmahātejā śśibikāyāssalakṣmaṇḥ|

Translation

महातेजाः brilliant, सलक्ष्मणः along with Lakshmana, सः he, रामनिषेवितम् where Rama was resided, श्रेष्ठम् best, तं देशम् that location, अनुप्राप्य having reached, शिबिकायाः from the palanquin, अवातरत् descended.

Meaning

Having reached the place where Rama lived, brilliant Sugriva along with Lakshmana descended from the palanquin.

KK-38-16Kishkindha Kanda 38.16

आसाद्य च ततो रामं कृताञ्जलिपुटोऽभवत्।।4.38.16।। कृताञ्जलौ स्थिते तस्मिन्वानराश्चाभवंस्तथा।

āsādya ca tato rāmṃ kṛtāñjalipuṭo'bhavat||4.38.16|| kṛtāñjalau sthite tasminvānarāścābhavṃstathā|

Translation

ततः then, रामम् to Rama, आसाद्य approached, कृताञ्जलिपुटः with folded hands, अभवत् remained, तस्मिन् when he, कृताञ्जलौ with folded hands, स्थिते stood, वानराश्च monkeys also, तथा similarly, अभवन् did so.

Meaning

Thereafter Sugriva followed by the monkeys approached Rama, and stood with folded hands.

KK-38-17Kishkindha Kanda 38.17

तटाकमिव तं दृष्ट्वा रामः कुड्मलपङ्कजम्।।4.38.17।। वानराणां महत्सैन्यं सुग्रीवे प्रीतिमानभूत्।

taṭākamiva tṃ dṛṣṭvā rāmḥ kuḍmalapaṅkajam||4.38.17|| vānarāṇāṃ mahatsainyṃ sugrīve prītimānabhūt|

Translation

रामः Rama, कुड्मलपङ्कजम् filled with lotus buds, तटाकमिव resembling a pond, वानराणाम् of the vanaras, महत् great, सैन्यम् army, दृष्ट्वा after witnessing, सुग्रीवे at Sugriva, प्रीतिमान् pleased one, अभूत् appeared.

Meaning

Rama was pleased on beholding the great army of monkeys standing, resembling a pond full of lotus buds.

KK-38-18Kishkindha Kanda 38.18

पादयोः पतितं मूर्ध्ना तमुत्थाप्य हरीश्वरम्।।4.38.18।। प्रेम्णा च बहुमानाच्च राघवः परिषस्वजे।

pādayoḥ patitṃ mūrdhnā tamutthāpya harīśvaram||4.38.18|| premṇā ca bahumānācca rāghavḥ pariṣasvaje|

Translation

राघवः Rama, मूर्ध्ना bending the head, पादयोः at both his feet, पतितम् touching in prostration, तम् him, हरीश्वरम् Sugriva, उत्थाप्य lifted him up, प्रेम्णा च with love, बहुमानाच्च with great regard, परिषस्वजे he embraced.

Meaning

Sugriva touched Rama's feet, bending his head down, and Rama lifted him up and embraced him with love and great regard.

KK-38-19Kishkindha Kanda 38.19

परिष्वज्य च धर्मात्मा निषीदेति ततोऽब्रवीत्।।4.38.19।। निषण्णं तं ततो दृष्ट्वा क्षितौ रामोऽब्रवीद्वचः।

pariṣvajya ca dharmātmā niṣīdeti tato'bravīt||4.38.19|| niṣaṇṇṃ tṃ tato dṛṣṭvā kṣitau rāmo'bravīdvacḥ|

Translation

ततः thereafter, धर्मात्मा righteous, रामः Rama, परिष्वज्य embracing, ततः then, निषीद sit, इति thus, अब्रवीत् said, वचः words, क्षितौ on the ground, निषण्णाम् sat down, तम् him, दृष्ट्वा on seeing, अब्रवीत् said.

Meaning

Embracing him, Rama offered him a seat on the ground and said:

KK-38-20Kishkindha Kanda 38.20

धर्ममर्थं च कामं च यस्तु काले निषेवते।।4.38.20।। विभज्य सततं वीर स्स राजा हरिसत्तम।

dharmamarthṃ ca kāmṃ ca yastu kāle niṣevate||4.38.20|| vibhajya satatṃ vīra ssa rājā harisattama|

Translation

वीर: a hero, हरिसत्तम O best among monkeys, यः whoever, धर्मम् duty, अर्थं च wealth also, कामं च desire too, काले in time, विभज्य after dividing due time, निषेवते attends, सः such a man, राजा is king.

Meaning

'O best among the heroic monkeys, a king who apportions his time properly towards pursuit of dharma, artha and kama is a hero and deserves to be a king.

KK-38-21Kishkindha Kanda 38.21

हित्वा धर्मं तथाऽर्थं च कामं यस्तु निषेवते।।4.38.21।। स वृक्षाग्रे यथा सुप्तः पतितः प्रतिबुध्यते।

hitvā dharmṃ tathā'rthṃ ca kāmṃ yastu niṣevate||4.38.21|| sa vṛkṣāgre yathā suptḥ patitḥ pratibudhyate|

Translation

यः whoever, धर्मम् one's duty, तथा so also, अर्थं च pursuit of wealth also, हित्वा after giving up, कामम् desire, निषेवत् attends, सः he, वृक्षाग्रे on the tree top, सुप्तः इव as one lying, पतितः fallen down, प्रतिबुध्यते gets awakened.

Meaning

'One who neglects dharma and artha and pursues only kama (sensuous enjoyment) is like a man asleep on top of the tree, waking up only to realize that he has fallen down.

KK-38-22Kishkindha Kanda 38.22

अमित्राणां वधे युक्तो मित्राणां सङ्ग्रहे रतः।।4.38.22।। त्रिवर्गफलभोक्ता तु राजा धर्मेण युज्यते।

amitrāṇāṃ vadhe yukto mitrāṇāṃ saṅgrahe ratḥ||4.38.22|| trivargaphalabhoktā tu rājā dharmeṇa yujyate|

Translation

अमित्राणाम् of enemies, वधे in slaying, युक्तः right, मित्राणाम् of friends, सङ्ग्रहे in the acqusition of, रतः is engaged, राजा that king, धर्मेण with righteousness, युज्यते is associated, त्रिवर्गफलभोक्ता च enjoys the fruits of all the three (dharma, artha and kama) goals of life.

KK-38-23Kishkindha Kanda 38.23

उद्योगसमयस्त्वेषप्राप्तश्शत्रुविनाशन।।4.38.23।। सञ्चिन्त्यतां हि पिङ्गेश हरिभिस्सह मन्त्रिभिः।

udyogasamayastveṣaprāptaśśatruvināśana||4.38.23|| sañcintyatāṃ hi piṅgeśa haribhissaha mantribhiḥ|

Translation

शत्रुविनाशन O slayer of enemies, पिङ्गेश O king of monkeys, एषः this, उद्योगसमयः time for enterprise, प्राप्तः set in, मन्त्रिभिः ministers, हरिभिः सह and with monkeys, सञ्चिन्त्यताम् think over.

Meaning

'O king of monkeys, slayer of enemies the time to act has arrived. Think of the strategies with your ministers and other monkeys.

KK-38-24-25Kishkindha Kanda 38.24–25 (युग्मम्)

एवमुक्तस्तु सुग्रीवो रामं वचनमब्रवीत्।।4.38.24।। प्रणष्टा श्रीश्च कीर्तिश्च कपिराज्यं च शाश्वतम्। त्वत्प्रसादान्महाबाहो पुनःप्राप्तमिदं मया।।4.38.25।।

evamuktastu sugrīvo rāmṃ vacanamabravīt||4.38.24|| praṇaṣṭā śrīśca kīrtiśca kapirājyṃ ca śāśvatam| tvatprasādānmahābāho punḥprāptamidṃ mayā||4.38.25||

Translation

एवम् in that manner, उक्तः having said, सुग्रीवः Sugriva, रामम् to Rama, वचनम् these words, अब्रवीत् spoke, महाबाहो O longarmed one, प्रणष्टा that had been lost, श्रीश्च fortune, कीर्तिश्च and fame, शाश्वतम् permanent, इदम् this, कपिराज्यं च kingdom of vanaras too, मया by me, त्वत्प्रसादात् by your grace only, प्राप्तम् obtained.

Meaning

On hearing this, Sugriva said to Rama,'O longarmed one the fortune, fame and soverignty of vanaras which was lost has been regained only by your grace.

KK-38-26Kishkindha Kanda 38.26

तव देव प्रसादाच्च भ्रातुश्च जयतां वर। कृतं न प्रतिकुर्याद्यः पुरुषाणां स दूषकः।।4.38.26।।

tava deva prasādācca bhrātuśca jayatāṃ vara| kṛtṃ na pratikuryādyḥ puruṣāṇāṃ sa dūṣakḥ||4.38.26||

Translation

देव O lord, जयतां वर best of the victorious men, तव your, भ्रातुश्च your brother's, प्रसादात् by the grace, च also, कृतम् accomplished, यः whoever, न प्रतिकुर्यात् not help in return, पुरुषाणाम् among men, स दूषकः the lowest.

Meaning

'O victorious lord he who does not repay the help got through your grace and your brother's is despicable among men.

KK-38-27Kishkindha Kanda 38.27

एते वानरमूख्याश्च शतशश्शत्रुसूदन। प्राप्ताश्चादाय बलिनः पृथिव्यां सर्ववानरान्।।4.38.27।।

ete vānaramūkhyāśca śataśaśśatrusūdana| prāptāścādāya balinḥ pṛthivyāṃ sarvavānarān||4.38.27||

Translation

शत्रुसूदन destroyer of enemies, शतशः in hundreds, एते these, वानरमुख्याः chiefs of monkeys, पृथिव्याम् on the earth, बलिनः strong ones, सर्ववानरान् all the vanaras, आदाय gathering, प्राप्ताः have reached.

Meaning

'O destroyer of enemies hundreds of strong vanara chiefs gathered from all over the earth have reached here.

KK-38-28-29Kishkindha Kanda 38.28–29 (युग्मम्)

ऋक्षाश्चावहिताश्शूरा गोलाङ्गूलाश्च राघव। कान्तारवनदुर्गाणामभिज्ञा घोरदर्शनाः।।4.38.28।। देवगन्धर्वपुत्राश्च वानराः कामरूपिणः। स्वैस्स्वै: परिवृतास्सैन्यैर्वर्तन्ते पथि राघव।।4.38.29।।

ṛkṣāścāvahitāśśūrā golāṅgūlāśca rāghava| kāntāravanadurgāṇāmabhijñā ghoradarśanāḥ||4.38.28|| devagandharvaputrāśca vānarāḥ kāmarūpiṇḥ| svaissvai: parivṛtāssainyairvartante pathi rāghava||4.38.29||

Translation

राघव O Rama, कान्तार वनदुर्गाणाम् inaccessible fortresses of forests, घोरदर्शनाः of fierce appearance, ऋक्षाश्च bears, अवाहिताः familiar with every place, शूराः valiant, गोलाङ्गूलाश्च golangulas also, देवगन्धर्वपुत्राश्च loins of divine beings, and gandharvas, कामरूपिणः who can assume any form at their will, वानराश्च vanaras, स्वैः स्वैः with their, सैन्यैः armies, परिवृताः gathered, पथि on the way, वर्तन्ते are coming.

Meaning

'O Rama valiant bears of fierce appearance, also golangulas (a variety of monkeys with tails like cows') familiar with the inaccessible fortresses of forest have come. These monkeys are sons of divine beings and gandharvas who can assume any form at will. They are on their way along with their armies.

KK-38-30-32Kishkindha Kanda 38.30–32 (त्रिकम्)

शतैश्शतसहस्रैश्च वर्तन्ते कोटिभिश्च प्लवङ्गमाः। अयुतैश्चावृता वीराश्शङ्कुभिश्च परन्तप ।।4.38.30।। अर्बुदैरर्बुदशतैर्मध्यैश्चान्त्यैश्च वानराः। समुद्रैश्च परार्धैश्च हरयो हरियूथपाः।।4.38.31।। आगमिष्यन्ति ते राजन्महेन्द्रसमविक्रमाः। मेरुमन्दरसङ्काशा विन्ध्य मेरुकृतालयाः।।4.38.32।।

śataiśśatasahasraiśca vartante koṭibhiśca plavaṅgamāḥ| ayutaiścāvṛtā vīrāśśaṅkubhiśca parantapa ||4.38.30|| arbudairarbudaśatairmadhyaiścāntyaiśca vānarāḥ| samudraiśca parārdhaiśca harayo hariyūthapāḥ||4.38.31|| āgamiṣyanti te rājanmahendrasamavikramāḥ| merumandarasaṅkāśā vindhya merukṛtālayāḥ||4.38.32||

Translation

राजन् O king, वीर heroic, शतैः in hundreds, शतसहस्रैश्च in lakhs, कोटिभिश्च even in crores, प्लवङ्गमाः monkeys, अयुतैश्च in ayutas, शङ्कुभिश्च in sankus(multitudes), अर्बुदैः one hundred millions, अर्बुदशतैः hundreds of arbudas, मध्यैश्च in madhyas, अन्त्येश्च in antyas, आवृताः come together, वानराः monkeys, वर्तन्ते are reaching, समुद्रैश्च in samudras, परार्धैश्च in parardhas, हरयः monkeys, महेन्द्रसमविक्रमाः comparable to Indra in courage, मेरुमन्दरसङ्काशाः mount Meru, and Mandara, विन्ध्यमेरुकृतालयाः mount Vindhya and Meru, हरियूथपाः monkey troops, आगमिष्यन्ति have started coming.

Meaning

O scorcher of enemies the vanara troops in hundred thousand crores, ayutas, sanku, arbuda, hundreds of arbudas, madhyas, antyas, samudras and parardhas (100000000000000000), are expected. O king they are residents of Vindhya and Meru mountains, comparable to lord Indra in courage and appear like mountains Meru and Mandara.

KK-38-33Kishkindha Kanda 38.33

ते त्वामभिगमिष्यन्ति राक्षसं ये सबान्धवम्। निहत्य रावणं सख्ये ह्यानयिष्यन्ति मैथिलीम्।।4.38.33।।

te tvāmabhigamiṣyanti rākṣasṃ ye sabāndhavam| nihatya rāvaṇṃ sakhye hyānayiṣyanti maithilīm||4.38.33||

Translation

ये those, संख्ये in war, सबान्धवम् with relatives, राक्षसम् ogre, रावणम् Ravana, निहत्य after killing, मैथिलीम् Maithili, आनयिष्यन्ति will bring her, ते they, त्वाम् you, अभिगमिष्यन्ति they will reach you.

Meaning

'The monkeys who can kill ogre Ravana and his relatives in battle and bring back Maithili will be arriving shortly.

KK-38-34Kishkindha Kanda 38.34

ततस्तमुद्योगमवेक्ष्य बुद्धिमा न्हरिप्रवीरस्य निदेशवर्तिनः। बभूव हर्षाद्वसुधाधिपात्मजः प्रबुद्धनीलोत्पलतुल्यदर्शनः।।4.38.34।।

tatastamudyogamavekṣya buddhimā nharipravīrasya nideśavartinḥ| babhūva harṣādvasudhādhipātmajḥ prabuddhanīlotpalatulyadarśanḥ||4.38.34||

Translation

ततः then, बुद्धिमान् wise, वसुधाधिपात्मजः son to king of the earth (Rama), निदेशवर्तिनः those who take orders, हरिप्रवीरस्य of the monkey lord, तमुद्योगम् that effort, अवेक्ष्य observing, हर्षात् with delight, प्रबुद्धनीलोत्पलतुल्यदर्शनः appeared like a blooming blue lotus, बभूव remained.

Meaning

The wise statesman, Rama observing the efforts of Sugriva and his attendants looked like a blooming blue lotus through delight. इत्यार्षे श्रीमद्रामायणे वाल्मीकीय आदिकाव्ये किष्किन्धाकाण्डे अष्टत्रिंशस्सर्गः।। Thus ends of thirtyeighth sarga in Kishkindakanda of the first epic, the Holy Ramayana, composed by sage Valmiki.
