KK-37-1Kishkindha Kanda 37.1

एवमुक्तस्तु सुग्रीवो लक्ष्मणेन महात्मना। हनूमन्तं स्थितं पार्श्वे सचिवन्त्विदमब्रवीत्।।4.37.1।।

evamuktastu sugrīvo lakṣmaṇena mahātmanā| hanūmantṃ sthitṃ pārśve sacivantvidamabravīt||4.37.1||

Translation

महात्मना great self, लक्ष्मणेन by Lakshmana, एवम् in that manner, उक्त having said, सुग्रीवः Sugriva, पार्श्वे by his side, स्थितम् stood, हनूमन्तम् to Hanuman, इदं this, सचिवं minister, अब्रवीत् said.

Meaning

Having heard the great Lakshmana Sugriva said to Hanuman, the minister who stood by his side:

KK-37-2-9Kishkindha Kanda 37.2–9 (कुलकम्)

महेन्द्रहिमवद्विन्ध्यकैलासशिखरेषु च। मन्दरे पाण्डुशिखरे पञ्चशैलेषु ये स्थिताः।।4.37.2।। तरुणादित्यवर्णेषु भ्राजमानेषु सर्वतः। पर्वतेषु समुद्रान्ते पश्चिमायां च ये दिशि।।4.37.3।। आदित्यभवने चैव गिरौ सन्ध्याभ्रसन्निभे। पद्मातालवनं भीमं संश्रिता हरिपुङ्गवाः।।4.37.4।। अञ्जनाम्बुदसङ्काशाः कुञ्जरप्रतिमौजसः। अञ्जने पर्वते चैव ये वसन्ति प्लवङ्गमाः।।4.37.5।। मनश्शिला गुहावासा वानराः कनकप्रभाः। मेरुपार्श्वगताश्चैव ये धूम्रगिरिं संश्रिताः।।4.37.6।। तरुणादित्यवर्णाश्च पर्वते ये महारुणे। पिबन्तो मधुमैरेयं भीमवेगाः प्लवङ्गमाः।।4.37.7।। वनेषु च सुरम्येषु सुगन्धिषु महत्सु च। तापसानां च रम्येषु वनान्तेषु समन्ततः।।4.37.8।। तांस्तां स्त्वमानय क्षिप्रं पृथिव्यां सर्ववानरान्। सामदानादिभि: स्सर्वैराशु प्रेषय वानरान्।।4.37.9।।

mahendrahimavadvindhyakailāsaśikhareṣu ca| mandare pāṇḍuśikhare pañcaśaileṣu ye sthitāḥ||4.37.2|| taruṇādityavarṇeṣu bhrājamāneṣu sarvatḥ| parvateṣu samudrānte paścimāyāṃ ca ye diśi||4.37.3|| ādityabhavane caiva girau sandhyābhrasannibhe| padmātālavanṃ bhīmṃ sṃśritā haripuṅgavāḥ||4.37.4|| añjanāmbudasaṅkāśāḥ kuñjarapratimaujasḥ| añjane parvate caiva ye vasanti plavaṅgamāḥ||4.37.5|| manaśśilā guhāvāsā vānarāḥ kanakaprabhāḥ| merupārśvagatāścaiva ye dhūmragiriṃ sṃśritāḥ||4.37.6|| taruṇādityavarṇāśca parvate ye mahāruṇe| pibanto madhumaireyṃ bhīmavegāḥ plavaṅgamāḥ||4.37.7|| vaneṣu ca suramyeṣu sugandhiṣu mahatsu ca| tāpasānāṃ ca ramyeṣu vanānteṣu samantatḥ||4.37.8|| tāṃstāṃ stvamānaya kṣiprṃ pṛthivyāṃ sarvavānarān| sāmadānādibhi: ssarvairāśu preṣaya vānarān||4.37.9||

Translation

महेन्द्रहिमवद्विन्ध्यकैलासशिखरेषु च on the peaks of Mahendra, Himavan, Vindhya and Kailasa mountains, पाण्डुशिखरे on the white peak, मन्दरे of Mandara, पञ्चशैलेषु on the five mountains, ये who, स्थिताः ever residing, समुद्रान्ते on the shores of the sea, सर्वत: all over, भ्राजमानेषु on the lustrous, तरुणादित्यवर्णेषु colour of the rising Sun, पर्वतेषु on mountains, पश्चिमायाम् western, दिशि direction, ये those, सन्ध्याभ्रसन्निभे like the clouds of the setting Sun, आदित्यभवने the mountain where the Sun rises, गिरौ चैव even mountains, भीमं fierce, हरिपुङ्गवाः best of monkeys, पद्म तालवनम् in the garden of Padmatala, संश्रिताः staying, अञ्जने पर्वते on the Anjani mountain, अञ्जनाम्बुदसङ्काशाः resembling black clouds, कुञ्जरेन्द्रप्रतिमौजसः strong as best elephants, ये प्लवङ्गमाः the monkeys, वसन्ति dwelling, मनश्शिलागुहावासाः residing at Manassilva (a red pigment of arsenic) mountain caves, कनकप्रभाः shining like gold in complexion, वानराः monkeys, मेरुपार्श्वगताश्चैव and those who have gone to Mount Meru, ये those, धूम्रगिरिम् at Dhumra mountain, श्रिताः staying, महारुणे on Maharuna, पर्वते on the mountain, मैरेयं मधु liquor of Maireya, पिबन्तः drinking, भीमवेगाः of terrific speed, ये those, तरुणादित्यवर्णाः of the colour of the rising Sun, प्लवङ्गमाः monkeys, सुरम्येषु on beautiful spots, सुगन्धिषु of the fragrant, महत्सु on the great, वनेषु च and in the forests, तापसानां च रम्येषु at the delightful hermitages of ascetics, समन्ततः all over, वनान्तेषु allover the forest, पृथिव्याम् on the earth, तां स्तान् respective ones, सर्ववानरान् all the monkeys, सामदानादिभिः using all means (sama and dana), सवै: by all, आशुप्रेषय send for, वानरान् the monkeys, क्षिप्रम् at once, त्वम् you, आनय bring.

Meaning

'Send for the monkeys residing at the five mountains of Mahendra, Himavan, Vindhya, Kailasa and the whitepeaked mount Mandara those monkeys residing on the western mountains, on the sea shore and on mount Udaya shining like the rising Sun monkeys like dark clouds shining in the twilight Sun those at the fierce Padmatala garden and those at the Anjana mountain who resemble dark clouds like collyrium and are as strong as elephants those monkeys of golden complexion residing at the red arsenic mountain caves beside mount Meru those on mount Meru and Dhumra who are of bright red colour like the rising Sun drinking liquor Maireya the monkeys of terrific speed at mount Maharuna those staying at the delightful hermitages in the forests, and those living on the ground all must be cajoled and persuaded to report at once.

KK-37-10Kishkindha Kanda 37.10

प्रेषिताः प्रथमं ये च मयादूता महाजवाः। त्वरणार्थं तु भूयस्त्वं हरीन् सम्प्रेषयापरान्।।4.37.10।।

preṣitāḥ prathamṃ ye ca mayādūtā mahājavāḥ| tvaraṇārthṃ tu bhūyastvṃ harīn sampreṣayāparān||4.37.10||

Translation

मया by me, दूताः messengers, महाजवाः swift, ये those, प्रथमम् earlier, प्रेषिताः are sent forth, त्वरणार्थम् to hasten, त्वम् you, भूयः again, आपरान् others, हरीन् monkeys, सम्प्रेषय send.

Meaning

'This is in addition to the monkeys for whom swiftfooted messengers have already been sent.

KK-37-11Kishkindha Kanda 37.11

ये प्रसक्ताश्च कामेषु दीर्घसूत्राश्च वानराः। इहाऽनयस्व तान् सर्वान् शीघ्रं तु मम शासनात्।।4.37.11।।

ye prasaktāśca kāmeṣu dīrghasūtrāśca vānarāḥ| ihā'nayasva tān sarvān śīghrṃ tu mama śāsanāt||4.37.11||

Translation

ये those, वानराः monkeys, कामेषु in carnal pleasures, प्रसक्ताश्च engaged in, दीर्घसूत्राश्च slow workers, सर्वान् all, तां them, मम शासनात् on my command, शीघ्रम् at once, इह here, आनयस्व bring.

Meaning

'Get all the monkeys including those engaged in carnal pleasures and those slow in movement all at once on my command.

KK-37-12Kishkindha Kanda 37.12

अहोभिर्दशभिर्ये च नागच्छन्ति ममाज्ञया। हन्तव्यास्ते दुरात्मानो राजशासनदूषकाः।।4.37.12।।

ahobhirdaśabhirye ca nāgacchanti mamājñayā| hantavyāste durātmāno rājaśāsanadūṣakāḥ||4.37.12||

Translation

ये those, मम my, आज्ञया by my orders, दशभिः in ten days, अहोभिः by days, नागच्छन्ति are not coming, राजशासनदूषकाः disobeying king's order, ते they, दुरात्मानः evilminded ones, हन्तव्याः to be killed.

Meaning

'Kill those evilminded ones within ten days for disobeying the royal orders.

KK-37-13Kishkindha Kanda 37.13

शतान्यथ सहस्राणां कोट्यश्च मम शासनात्। प्रयान्तु कपिसिंहानां दिशो मम मते स्थिताः।।4.37.13।।

śatānyatha sahasrāṇāṃ koṭyaśca mama śāsanāt| prayāntu kapisiṃhānāṃ diśo mama mate sthitāḥ||4.37.13||

Translation

मम my, दिशः all directions, मम my, मते स्थिताः obedient to me, कपिसिंहानाम् of lion like monkeys, शतानि hundred, सहस्राणां thousand, कोट्यश्च crores, मम my, शासनात् by command, प्रयान्तु let them go.

Meaning

'The hundreds of thousands of crores of obedient lionlike monkeys should proceed in all directions at my command.

KK-37-14Kishkindha Kanda 37.14

मेघपर्वतसङ्काशाश्छादयन्त इवाम्बरम्। घोररूपाः कपिश्रेष्ठा यान्तु मच्छासनादितः।।4.37.14।।

meghaparvatasaṅkāśāśchādayanta ivāmbaram| ghorarūpāḥ kapiśreṣṭhā yāntu macchāsanāditḥ||4.37.14||

Translation

मेघपर्वतसङ्काशाः those comparable to clouds and mountains, घोररूपाः fierce in appearance, कपिश्रेष्ठाः best of monkeys, अम्बरम् sky, छाहोदयन्त इव as if covering, मच्छासनात् by my command, इतः from here, यान्तु will go.

Meaning

'Fierce monkeys, comparable to clouds and mountains in appearance shall go as though covering the sky from here at my command.

KK-37-15Kishkindha Kanda 37.15

ते गतिज्ञा गतिं ज्ञात्वा पृथिव्यां सर्ववानराः। आनयन्तु हरीन् सर्वांस्त्वरिता शसनान्मम।।4.37.15।।

te gatijñā gatiṃ jñātvā pṛthivyāṃ sarvavānarāḥ| ānayantu harīn sarvāṃstvaritā śasanānmama||4.37.15||

Translation

गतिज्ञाः those who know the locations, ते they, सर्ववानराः all vanaras, त्वरिताः quickly, गतिं ज्ञात्वा knowing their movements, पृथिव्याम् on the earth, सर्वान् all, हरीन् monkeys, मम my, शासनात् command, आनयन्तु bring.

KK-37-16Kishkindha Kanda 37.16

तस्य वानर राजस्य श्रुत्वा वायुसुतो वचः। दिक्षु सर्वासु विक्रान्तान्प्रेषयामास वानरान्।।4.37.16।।

tasya vānara rājasya śrutvā vāyusuto vacḥ| dikṣu sarvāsu vikrāntānpreṣayāmāsa vānarān||4.37.16||

Translation

वायुसुतः son of Windgod, तस्य वानरराजस्य that monkey king's, वचः words, श्रुत्वा on hearing, सर्वासु in all, दिक्षु in directions, विक्रान्तान् advancing, वानरान् monkeys, प्रेषयामास sent for.

Meaning

Having heard Sugriva's command, Hanuman, son of the Windgod, sent powerful monkeys in all directions.

KK-37-17Kishkindha Kanda 37.17

ते पदं विष्णुविक्रान्तं पतत्रिज्योतिरध्वगाः। प्रयाताः प्रहिता राज्ञा हरयस्तत्क्षणेन वै।।4.37.17।।

te padṃ viṣṇuvikrāntṃ patatrijyotiradhvagāḥ| prayātāḥ prahitā rājñā harayastatkṣaṇena vai||4.37.17||

Translation

राज्ञा by the king, प्रहिताः sent, ते they, पतत्रिज्योतिरध्वगाः those moving in the path of birds and heavenly bodies, क्षणेन in that moment, विष्णुविक्रान्तम् where Visnu moved about, पदम् path, प्रयाताः travelled, हरयः monkeys, वै indeed.

Meaning

The monkeys ordered by the king, traversed the pathway of birds and heavenly bodies, the path Lord Visnu had trod. [Note: the sky is called Vishnupada since Lord Visnu set his foot on the sky in his incarnation as Vamana.]

KK-37-18Kishkindha Kanda 37.18

ते समुद्रेषु गिरिषु वनेषु च सरस्सु च। वानरा वानरान्सर्वान्रामहेतोरचोदयन्।।4.37.18।।

te samudreṣu giriṣu vaneṣu ca sarassu ca| vānarā vānarānsarvānrāmahetoracodayan||4.37.18||

Translation

ते वानराः set his foot those monkeys, समुद्रेषु on the sea shore, गिरिषु on the mountains, वनेषु च in the forests, सरस्सु च on the banks of lakes, सर्वान् all over, वानरान् monkeys, रामहेतोः to serve Rama's cause, अचोदयन् driven.

Meaning

The messenger monkeys drove in all those living on the sea shore, mountains, forests as well as banks of lakes in order to serve the cause of Rama.

KK-37-19Kishkindha Kanda 37.19

मृत्युकालोपमस्याऽज्ञां राजराजस्य वानराः। सुग्रीवस्याययु श्श्रुत्वा सुग्रीवभयदर्शिनः।।4.37.19।।

mṛtyukālopamasyā'jñāṃ rājarājasya vānarāḥ| sugrīvasyāyayu śśrutvā sugrīvabhayadarśinḥ||4.37.19||

Translation

वानराः monkeys, मृत्युकालोपमस्य like god of death , राजराजस्य of king's, सुग्रीवस्य Sugriva's, आज्ञाम् command, श्रुत्वा on hearing, सुग्रीवभयदर्शिनः foreseeing fear from Sugriva, आययुः came.

Meaning

In response to the command of the king, who was like death to them, the monkeys came at once, driven by fear from Sugriva.

KK-37-20Kishkindha Kanda 37.20

ततस्तेऽञ्जनसङ्काशा गिरेस्तस्मान्महाजवाः। तिस्रः कोट्यः प्लवङ्गानां निर्ययुर्यत्र राघवः।।4.37.20।।

tataste'ñjanasaṅkāśā girestasmānmahājavāḥ| tisrḥ koṭyḥ plavaṅgānāṃ niryayuryatra rāghavḥ||4.37.20||

Translation

ततः then, तस्मात् गिरेः from that mountain, प्लवङ्गनाम् of monkeys, महाजवाः swift moving, अञ्जनसङ्काशाः who were like collyrium, तिस्रः three, कोट्यः crores, राघवः Rama, यत्र wherever, निर्ययुः rushed forth.

Meaning

Then three crores of swiftfooted monkeys, dark like collyrium, rushed forth to the mountain to meet Rama.

KK-37-21Kishkindha Kanda 37.21

अस्तं गच्छति यत्रार्कस्तस्मिन्गिरिवरे स्थिताः। सन्तप्त हेममहाभासस्तस्मात्कोट्यो दश च्युताः।।4.37.21।।

astṃ gacchati yatrārkastasmingirivare sthitāḥ| santapta hemamahābhāsastasmātkoṭyo daśa cyutāḥ||4.37.21||

Translation

यत्र wherever, अर्कः Sun, अस्तं गच्छति sets, तस्मिन् in that, गिरिवरे in the best of mountains, स्थिताः staying at, सन्तप्तहेममहाभास shining like pure molten gold, दश कोट्यः ten crores, तस्मात् from there, च्युताः moved out.

Meaning

Ten crores of monkeys shining like pure molten gold, staying on the best of mountains where the Sun sets moved towards Kishkinda.

KK-37-22Kishkindha Kanda 37.22

कैलासशिखरेभ्यश्च सिंहकेसरवर्चसाम्। ततः कोटिसहस्राणि वानराणामुपागमन्।।4.37.22।।

kailāsaśikharebhyaśca siṃhakesaravarcasām| tatḥ koṭisahasrāṇi vānarāṇāmupāgaman||4.37.22||

Translation

ततः then, सिंहकेसरवर्चसाम् of those having the colour of the lion's mane, वानराणाम् monkeys, कोटि सहस्राणि a thousand crores, कैलासशिखरेभ्यश्च from the peaks of Kailasa mountain, उपागमन् started.

Meaning

From the peaks of Kailasa mountain moved out one thousand crores of monkeys who were of bright colour like the lion's mane.

KK-37-23Kishkindha Kanda 37.23

फलमूलेन जीवन्तो हिमवन्तमुपाश्रिताः। तेषां कोटिसहस्राणां सहस्रं समवर्तत।।4.37.23।।

phalamūlena jīvanto himavantamupāśritāḥ| teṣāṃ koṭisahasrāṇāṃ sahasrṃ samavartata||4.37.23||

Translation

फलमूलेन with fruits and roots, जीवन्तः those feeding on, हिमवन्तम् Himavan, उपाश्रिताः resorted to, तेषाम् them, कोटिसहस्राणाम् thousands of crores, सहस्रम् a thousand, समवर्तत was ready.

Meaning

Then monkeys residing at mount Himavan feeding on fruits and roots came in thousands of crores. (This number is called Shankha 1000,000,000,000,0, it is one digit higher than Mahapadma.)

KK-37-24Kishkindha Kanda 37.24

अङ्गारकसमानानां भीमानां भीमकर्मणाम्। विन्ध्याद्वानरकोटीनां सहस्राण्यपतन्द्रुतम्।।4.37.24।।

aṅgārakasamānānāṃ bhīmānāṃ bhīmakarmaṇām| vindhyādvānarakoṭīnāṃ sahasrāṇyapatandrutam||4.37.24||

Translation

विन्ध्यात् from the Vindhya, अङ्गारकसमानानाम् like the Angaraka (fire), भीमानाम् fierceful, भीमकर्मणाम् of fierce deeds, वानरकोटीनाम् of crores of monkeys, सहस्राणि thousands, द्रुतम् swiftly, अपतन् came down.

Meaning

From the Vindhya mountain came down thousands of crores of swiftfooted monkeys of terrific deeds. They were fierce like fire (Angaraka).

KK-37-25Kishkindha Kanda 37.25

क्षीरोदवेलानिलयास्तमालवनवासिनः। नारिकेलाशनाश्चैव तेषां सङ्ख्या न विद्यते।।4.37.25।।

kṣīrodavelānilayāstamālavanavāsinḥ| nārikelāśanāścaiva teṣāṃ saṅkhyā na vidyate||4.37.25||

Translation

क्षीरोदवेलानिलयाः those dwelling on the banks of the milky ocean, तमालवनवासिनः residents of Tamala forest, नारिकेलाशनाश्चैव those feeding on coconuts in the palm grove, तेषाम् of all of them, सङ्ख्या number, न विद्यते not exist.

Meaning

The monkeys residents of Tamala forest on the shores of the ocean of milk feeding on coconuts arrived from the groves in countless number.

KK-37-26Kishkindha Kanda 37.26

वनेभ्यो गह्वरेभ्यश्च सरिद्भ्यश्च महाजवा। आगच्छद्वानरी सेना पिबन्तीव दिवाकरम्।।4.37.26।।

vanebhyo gahvarebhyaśca saridbhyaśca mahājavā| āgacchadvānarī senā pibantīva divākaram||4.37.26||

Translation

महाजवा: swift movers, वानरी सेना army of monkeys, दिवाकरम् Sun, पिबन्तीव as if it was swallowing, वनेभ्यः from the forests, गह्वरेभ्यश्च from the caves, सरिद्भ्यश्च from the river banks, आगच्छत् came.

Meaning

An army of swiftmoving monkeys came from the caves, from the banks of rivers and forests as though it was swallowing up the Sungod.

KK-37-27Kishkindha Kanda 37.27

ये तु त्वरयितुं याता वानरास्सर्ववानरान्। ते वीरा हिमवच्छैलं ददृशुस्तं महाद्रुमम्।।4.37.27।।

ye tu tvarayituṃ yātā vānarāssarvavānarān| te vīrā himavacchailṃ dadṛśustṃ mahādrumam||4.37.27||

Translation

ये those, वानराः monkeys, सर्ववानरान् all the rest of monkeys, त्वरयितुम् to hasten, याताः they had gone, ते वीराः those heroes, हिमवच्छैलं the mountain Himavat, तम् that, महाद्रुमम् great tree, ददृशुः saw.

Meaning

The monkeys sent earlier to hasten all their counterparts saw mount Himavat from the great tree.

KK-37-28Kishkindha Kanda 37.28

तस्मिन्गिरिवरे रम्ये यज्ञो माहेश्वरः पुरा। सर्वदेवमनस्तोषो बभौ दिव्यो मनोहरः।।4.37.28।।

tasmingirivare ramye yajño māheśvarḥ purā| sarvadevamanastoṣo babhau divyo manoharḥ||4.37.28||

Translation

रम्ये on the enchanting, तस्मिन् on that, गिरिवरे on the best of mountains, पुरा earlier, सर्वदेवमनस्तोषः made the minds of all deities happy, दिव्य: मनोहर: divine and wonderful, माहेश्वरः Lord Mahesvara, यज्ञः Yajna, बभौ was performed.

Meaning

A divine, wonderful, delightful Yagna dedicated to Lord Siva used to be performed on the beautiful (Himalayan) mountain in the past so that the minds of all deities were satisfied.

KK-37-29Kishkindha Kanda 37.29

अन्ननिष्यन्दजातानि मूलानि च फलानि च। अमृतास्वादकल्पानि ददृशुस्तत्र वानराः।।4.37.29।।

annaniṣyandajātāni mūlāni ca phalāni ca| amṛtāsvādakalpāni dadṛśustatra vānarāḥ||4.37.29||

Translation

तत्र there, वानराः monkeys, अन्ननिष्यन्दजातानि produced out of the havis of the Yajna, अमृतास्वादकल्पानि sweet like nectar, मूलानि and roots, च and, फलानि च fruits also, ददृशुः they saw.

Meaning

There the monkeys saw the Yajna, and partook the fruits and roots produced out of the havis which tasted sweet like nectar.

KK-37-30Kishkindha Kanda 37.30

तदन्नसम्भवं दिव्यं फलमूलं मनोहरम्। यः कश्चित्सकृदश्नाति मासं भवति तर्पितः।।4.37.30।।

tadannasambhavṃ divyṃ phalamūlṃ manoharam| yḥ kaścitsakṛdaśnāti māsṃ bhavati tarpitḥ||4.37.30||

Translation

तदन्नसम्भवम् born out of that havis, दिव्यम् wonderful, मनोहरम् delicious, फलमूलम् fruits and roots, यः कश्चित् any one, सकृत् one, अश्नाति eats, मासम् for one month, तर्पितः contented, भवति he will be.

Meaning

Any one who shares even a little of the divine, delicious fruits and roots grown out of that havis will have no hunger or thirst for a month.

KK-37-31Kishkindha Kanda 37.31

तानि मूलानि दिव्यानि फलानि च फलाशनाः। औषधानि च दिव्यानि जगृहुर्हरियूथपाः।।4.37.31।।

tāni mūlāni divyāni phalāni ca phalāśanāḥ| auṣadhāni ca divyāni jagṛhurhariyūthapāḥ||4.37.31||

Translation

फलाशनाः those who live on fruits, हरियूथपाः monkey leaders, दिव्यानि divine, तानि them, मूलानि roots, फलानि च and fruits, दिव्यानि heavenly, औषधानि च and medicinal herbs, जगृहुः took.

Meaning

The monkey leaders who lived on fruits collected the divine fruits, roots as well as medicinal herbs.

KK-37-32Kishkindha Kanda 37.32

तस्माच्च यज्ञायतनात्पुष्पाणि सुरभीणि च। आनिन्युर्वानरा गत्वा सुग्रीवप्रियकारणात्।।4.37.32।।

tasmācca yajñāyatanātpuṣpāṇi surabhīṇi ca| āninyurvānarā gatvā sugrīvapriyakāraṇāt||4.37.32||

Translation

te tu sarve harivarāḥ pṛthivyāṃ sarvavānarān| sañcodayitvā tvaritā yūthānāṃ jagmuragratḥ||4.37.33||

Translation

सर्वे all, ते हरिवराः those great monkeys, पृथिव्याम् on the earth, सर्ववानरान् all the monkeys, सञ्चोदयित्वा after guiding, यूथानाम् of the hordes, अग्रतः in the forefront, त्वरिता: quickly, जग्मुः proceeded.

Meaning

The monkey leaders from all over the earth arrived quickly, leading the hordes of them.

KK-37-34Kishkindha Kanda 37.34

ते तु तेन मुहूर्तेन यूथपाश्शीघ्रगामिनः। किष्किन्धां त्वरया प्राप्ता स्सुग्रीवो यत्र वानरः।।4.37.34।।

te tu tena muhūrtena yūthapāśśīghragāminḥ| kiṣkindhāṃ tvarayā prāptā ssugrīvo yatra vānarḥ||4.37.34||

Translation

शीघ्रगामिनः swiftwalkers, ते यूथपाः leaders of the groups, तेन मुहूर्तेन in that short time, वानरः monkeys, सुग्रीवः Sugriva, यत्र there, किष्किन्धाम् to Kishkinda, त्वरया quickly, प्राप्ताः reached.

Meaning

In a short while the swiftmoving leaders of the monkeys groups reached Kishkinda quickly.

KK-37-35Kishkindha Kanda 37.35

ते गृहीत्वौषधीस्सर्वाः फलमूलं च वानराः। तं प्रतिग्राहयामासुर्वचनं चेदमब्रुवन्।।4.37.35।।

te gṛhītvauṣadhīssarvāḥ phalamūlṃ ca vānarāḥ| tṃ pratigrāhayāmāsurvacanṃ cedamabruvan||4.37.35||

Translation

ते वानराः those monkeys, सर्वाः all kinds of, ओषधीः medicinal herbs, फलमूलं च fruits and roots, गृहीत्वा having collected, तम् by them, प्रतिग्राहयामासुः in turn gifted to him (Sugriva), इदम् this, वचनम् word, अब्रुवन् च said.

Meaning

Offering all kinds of medicinal herbs, fruits and roots collected, to Sugriva the monkeys said:

सर्वे परिगताश्शैलास्समुद्राश्च वनानि च। पृथिव्यां वानरास्सर्वे शासनादुपयान्ति ते।।4.37.36।।

sarve parigatāśśailāssamudrāśca vanāni ca| pṛthivyāṃ vānarāssarve śāsanādupayānti te||4.37.36||

Translation

सर्वे all, शैलाः mountains, समुद्रा: oceans, वनानि च and forests, परिगताः have been covered, ते your, शासनात् with command, पृथिव्याम् on the earth, वानराः vanaras, उपयान्ति they are coming.

KK-37-37Kishkindha Kanda 37.37

एवं श्रुत्वा ततो हृष्ट स्सुग्रीवः प्लवगाधिपः। प्रतिजग्राह तत्प्रतीतस्तेषां सर्वमुपायनम्।।4.37.37।।

evṃ śrutvā tato hṛṣṭa ssugrīvḥ plavagādhipḥ| pratijagrāha tatpratītasteṣāṃ sarvamupāyanam||4.37.37||

Translation

ततः then, प्लवगाधिपः king of monkeys, सुग्रीवः Sugriva, एवम् in that way, श्रुत्वा on hearing, हृष्टः happy, तेषाम् their, सर्वम् entire, उपायनम् gift, तत् प्रीतः he was pleased with it, प्रतिजग्राह च and accepted them.

Meaning

On hearing the report from the monkeys, Sugriva the king of vanaras, accepted all the gifts they had brought him, with great pleasure. इत्यार्षे श्रीमद्रामायणे वाल्मीकीय आदिकाव्ये किष्किन्धाकाण्डे सप्तत्रिंशस्सर्गः।। Thus ends the thirtyseventh sarga in Kishkindakanda of the first epic, of the Holy Ramayana composed by sage Valmiki.
