YK-94-1Yuddha Kanda 94.1

स प्रविश्यसभांराजादीनःपरमदुःखितः । निषपादासनेमुख्येसिंहःक्रुद्धइवश्वसन् ।।6.94.1।।

sa praviśyasabhāṃrājādīnḥparamaduḥkhitḥ | niṣapādāsanemukhyesiṃhḥkruddhaivaśvasan ||6.94.1||

Translation

दीनः piteous, परमदुःखितः very sad, सःराजा that king, सभाम् council, प्रविश्य entered, क्रुद्धः angry, सिंहःइव like lion, श्वसन् sighing, मुख्ये chief, आसने seat, निषसाद sat

Meaning

Ravana, the king entered the council, angry like a lion, looking piteous, very sad and sat on the seat.

YK-94-2Yuddha Kanda 94.2

अब्रवीच्च स तान्सर्वान् बलमुख्यान् महाबलः । रावणःप्राञ्जलिर्वाक्यंपुत्रव्यसनकर्शितः ।।6.94.2।।

abravīcca sa tānsarvān balamukhyān mahābalḥ | rāvaṇḥprāñjalirvākyṃputravyasanakarśitḥ ||6.94.2||

Translation

महाबलः endowed with mighty prowess, पुत्रव्यसनकर्शितः shrunken on account of son, सःरावणः that Ravana, प्राञ्जलिः greeting with folded hands, तान् them, सर्वान् all, बलमुख्यान् army chiefs, वाक्यम् words, अब्रवीच्छ spoke

Meaning

Ravana, endowed with mighty prowess, shrunken on account of his son, greeting all the army chiefs with folded hands spoke as follows.

YK-94-3Yuddha Kanda 94.3

सर्वेभवन्तस्सर्वेणहस्त्यश्वेनसमावृताः । निर्यान्तुरथसङ्घैश्चपादातैश्चोपशोभिताः ।।6.94.3।।

sarvebhavantassarveṇahastyaśvenasamāvṛtāḥ | niryānturathasaṅghaiścapādātaiścopaśobhitāḥ ||6.94.3||

Translation

सर्वे all, भवन्तः of you, सर्वेण all, हस्त्वश्वेन elephants horses, समावृताः collected, रथसङ्घैश्च also chariots, पादातैश्च foot soldiers too, उपशोभिताः shining, निर्यान्तु march

YK-94-4Yuddha Kanda 94.4

एकंरामंपरिक्षिप्यसमरेहन्तुमर्हथ । वर्षन्तश्शरवर्षाणिप्रावृट् कालइवाम्बुदाः ।।6.94.4।।

ekṃrāmṃparikṣipyasamarehantumarhatha | varṣantaśśaravarṣāṇiprāvṛṭ kālaivāmbudāḥ ||6.94.4||

Translation

एकम् one, रामम् Rama, परिक्षिप्य encompassing, समरे in war, प्रावृटकाले monsoon, अम्बुदाःइव like the sky, शरवर्षाणि rain of arrows, वर्षन्तः raining, हन्तुम् kill, अर्हथ ought to do

YK-94-5Yuddha Kanda 94.5

अथवाहंशरैस्तीक्ष्णैर्भिन्नगात्रंमहाहवे । भवद्भिःश्वोनिहन्तास्मिरामंलोकस्यपश्यतः ।।6.94.5।।

athavāhṃśaraistīkṣṇairbhinnagātrṃmahāhave | bhavadbhiḥśvonihantāsmirāmṃlokasyapaśyatḥ ||6.94.5||

Translation

अथवा or else, अहम् I, महाहवे huge, तीक्ष्णैः sharp, शरैः arrows, भवद्भि: भिन्नगात्रम् limbs are struck by you, रामम् Rama, लोकस्य world, पश्यतः looks at, श्वः I, निहन्तास्मि I shall kill

Meaning

"I shall kill him with huge sharp arrows as the world looks at Rama, once his limbs are struck by you."

YK-94-6Yuddha Kanda 94.6

इत्येतद्वाक्यमादायरक्षसेन्द्रस्यराक्षसाः । निर्ययुस्तेरथैःशीघ्रैर्नानानीकैश्चसंयुताः ।।6.94.6।।

ityetadvākyamādāyarakṣasendrasyarākṣasāḥ | niryayusterathaiḥśīghrairnānānīkaiścasṃyutāḥ ||6.94.6||

Translation

ते they, राक्षसाः Rakshasa, राक्षसेन्द्रस्य Rakshasa king's, इति thus, एतत् all that, वाक्यम् words, आदाय hearing, शीघ्रैः swiftly, रथैः on chariots, नानानीकैश्च diverse battalions, संयुताः together, निर्ययुः departed

Meaning

On Rakshasa king speaking like that, all the diverse battalions together departed swiftly on chariots.

YK-94-7Yuddha Kanda 94.7

परिघान् पट्टसांश्चैवशरखङ्गपरश्वधान् । शरीरान्तकरान् सर्वेचिक्षिपुर्वानरान् प्रति ।।6.94.7।। वानराश्चद्रुमान्शैलान्राक्षसान्प्रतिचिक्षिपुः ।

parighān paṭṭasāṃścaivaśarakhaṅgaparaśvadhān | śarīrāntakarān sarvecikṣipurvānarān prati ||6.94.7|| vānarāścadrumānśailānrākṣasānpraticikṣipuḥ |

Translation

सर्वे all, शरीरान्तकरान् capable of destroying the life of body, परिघान् iron bars, पट्टसांश्चव clubs, शरखङ्गपरश्वधान् arrows. swords and axes, वानरान् प्रति on Vanaras, चिक्षिपुः hurled, वानराश्च Vanaras, राक्षसान् प्रति over Rakshasas, द्रुमान् trees, शैलान् rocks, चिक्षिपुः attacked

Meaning

All the Rakshasas threw at the Vanaras iron bars, clubs, axes, swords, and arrows, which were capable of destroying the life. Vanaras also attacked Rakshasas with trees and rocks.

YK-94-8Yuddha Kanda 94.8

स सङ्ग्रामोमहाभीमस्सूर्यस्यदयनंप्रति ।।6.94.8।। रक्षसांवानराणां च तुमुलस्समपद्यत ।

sa saṅgrāmomahābhīmassūryasyadayanṃprati ||6.94.8|| rakṣasāṃvānarāṇāṃ ca tumulassamapadyata |

Translation

सूर्यस्य Sun, उदयनंप्रति started at rise, रक्षसाम् Rakshasas, वानराणां च Vanaras, महाभीमः most terrific, सःसङ्ग्रामः war, तुमुलः tumultuous, समपद्यत became

Meaning

By the time of sunrise, the most terrific war started between Vanaras and Rakshasas, which became tumultuous.

YK-94-9Yuddha Kanda 94.9

तेगदाभिश्चचित्राभिःप्रासैःखडगैःपरश्वधैः ।।6.94.9।। अन्योन्यंसमरेजघ्नुस्तदावानरराक्षसाः ।

tegadābhiścacitrābhiḥprāsaiḥkhaḍagaiḥparaśvadhaiḥ ||6.94.9|| anyonyṃsamarejaghnustadāvānararākṣasāḥ |

Translation

ते they, वानरराक्षसाः Vanaras and Rakshasas, तदा then, चित्राभिः wonderful, गदाभिः maces, प्रासैः darts, खडगैः swords, परश्वधैः axes, समरे in war, अन्योन्यम् one another, जघ्नुः attacked

Meaning

The Vanaras and Rakshasas attacked one another with wonderful maces, darts, swords, and axes in war.

YK-94-10Yuddha Kanda 94.10

एवंप्रवृत्तेसङ्ग्रामेह्यद्भुतंसुमहद्रजः ।।6.94.10।। रक्षसांवानराणां च शान्तंशोणितविस्रवैः ।

evṃpravṛttesaṅgrāmehyadbhutṃsumahadrajḥ ||6.94.10|| rakṣasāṃvānarāṇāṃ ca śāntṃśoṇitavisravaiḥ |

Translation

एवम् in that manner, सङ्ग्रामे in war, प्रवृत्ते in progress, अद्भुतम् wonderful, सुमहत् huge, रजःdust, रक्षसाम् Rakshasas, वानराणां च Vanaras also, शोणितविस्रवैः by the flow of blood, शान्तम् subsided

Meaning

As the war was in progress, wonderful dust had risen which subsided by the flow of blood of Vanaras and Rakshasas.

YK-94-11Yuddha Kanda 94.11

मातङ्गरथकूलाश्चवाजिमत्सास्यध्वजद्रुमाः ।।6.94.11।। शरीरसङ्घाटवहाःप्रसस्रुःशोणितापगाः ।

mātaṅgarathakūlāścavājimatsāsyadhvajadrumāḥ ||6.94.11|| śarīrasaṅghāṭavahāḥprasasruḥśoṇitāpagāḥ |

Translation

मातङ्गरथकूलाः elephants and chariots as banks, वाजिमत्स्याः horses like fish, ध्वजद्रुमाः staffs as trees, शरीरसङ्घाटवहाः dead bodies as logs of wood, शोणितापगाः rivers of blood, प्रसस्रुः flowed

Meaning

There with rivers of blood flowing, elephants and chariots were like banks, horses were like fish, staff of chariots like trees and dead bodies as logs of wood seemed.

YK-94-12-13Yuddha Kanda 94.12–13 (युग्मम्)

ततस्तेवानराःसर्वेशोणितौघपरिप्लुताः ।।6.94.12।। ध्वजवर्मरथानश्वान्नानाप्रहरणानि च । आप्लुत्याप्लुत्यसमरेवानरेन्द्राबभञ्चिरे ।।6.94.13।।

tatastevānarāḥsarveśoṇitaughapariplutāḥ ||6.94.12|| dhvajavarmarathānaśvānnānāpraharaṇāni ca | āplutyāplutyasamarevānarendrābabhañcire ||6.94.13||

Translation

ततः then, सर्वे all, ते of them, वानराः Vanaras, शोणितौघपरिप्लुताः bathed in blood, समरे in war, वानरेन्द्राः leaders of Vanaras, ध्वजवर्मरथान् staff of chariots, अश्वान् horses, नानाप्रहरणानि च all kinds of weapons, आप्लुत्य leaping, आप्लुत्य and jumping, बभञ्जिरे broke

Meaning

Leaping and jumping the Vanaras and also the leaders of Vanaras bathed in blood broke all kinds of weapons, staff of chariots and the horses.

YK-94-14Yuddha Kanda 94.14

केशान् कर्णललाटं च नासिकाश्चप्लवङ्गमाः । रक्षसांदशनैस्तीक्ष्णैर्नखैश्चापिव्यकर्तयन् ।।6.94.14।।

keśān karṇalalāṭṃ ca nāsikāścaplavaṅgamāḥ | rakṣasāṃdaśanaistīkṣṇairnakhaiścāpivyakartayan ||6.94.14||

Translation

प्लवङ्गमाः monkeys, तीक्ष्णैः sharp, दशनैः teeth, नखैश्चापि nails, रक्षसाम् Rakshasas, केशान् hair, कर्णललाटांश्च ears, forehead, नासिकाश्चापि noses, व्यकर्तयन् tore off

The monkeys with their sharp teeth and nails tore off the hair, ears, noses, and forehead of the Rakshasas,

YK-94-15Yuddha Kanda 94.15

एकैकंराक्षसंसङ्ख्येशतंवानरपुङ्गवाः । अभ्यधावन्तफलिनंवृक्षंशकुनयोयथा ।।6.94.15।।

ekaikṃrākṣasṃsaṅkhyeśatṃvānarapuṅgavāḥ | abhyadhāvantaphalinṃvṛkṣṃśakunayoyathā ||6.94.15||

Translation

सङ्ख्ये number of, एकैकम् each one, राक्षसम् of the Rakshasas, शतम् hundred, वानरपुङ्गवाः Vanara leaders, फलिनम् laden with fruits, वृक्षम् trees, शकुनयोयथा like birds, अभ्यधावन्त attacked

Meaning

Just as trees laden with fruits are attacked by birds, each one of the Rakshasas was attacked by hundreds of Vanaras.

YK-94-16Yuddha Kanda 94.16

तदागदाभिर्गुर्वीभिःप्रासैःखडगैःपरश्वधैः । निर्जघ्नुर्वानरान्घोरान्राक्षसाःपर्वतोपमाः ।।6.94.16।।

tadāgadābhirgurvībhiḥprāsaiḥkhaḍagaiḥparaśvadhaiḥ | nirjaghnurvānarānghorānrākṣasāḥparvatopamāḥ ||6.94.16||

Translation

तदा then, पर्वतोपमाः mountain like forms, राक्षसाः Rakshasa, गुर्वीभिः heavy, गदाभिः maces, प्रासैःखडगैः darts, swords, परश्वधैः axes, घोरान्frightening, वानरान् Vanaras, निर्जघ्नुः struck

Meaning

Then the mountainlike forms of Rakshasas attacked the Vanaras with heavy maces, darts, swords, and axes in frightening ways.

YK-94-17Yuddha Kanda 94.17

राक्षसैर्वध्यमानानांवानराणांमहाचमूः । शरण्यंशरणंयातारामंदशरथात्मजम् ।।6.94.17।।

rākṣasairvadhyamānānāṃvānarāṇāṃmahācamūḥ | śaraṇyṃśaraṇṃyātārāmṃdaśarathātmajam ||6.94.17||

Translation

राक्षसैः Rakshasas, वध्यमानानाम् being struck, वानराणाम् Vanaras, महाचमूः huge group, शरण्यम् refuge, दशरथात्मजम् Dasharatha's son, रामम् Rama, शरणम् protection, याता sought

Meaning

The Vanaras being struck by Rakshasas sought the protection of Rama, the son of Dasharatha.

YK-94-18Yuddha Kanda 94.18

ततोरामोमहातेजाधनुरादायवीर्यवान् । प्रविश्यराक्षसंसैन्यंशरवर्षंववर्ष ह ।।6.94.18।।

tatorāmomahātejādhanurādāyavīryavān | praviśyarākṣasṃsainyṃśaravarṣṃvavarṣa ha ||6.94.18||

Translation

ततः then, महातेजाः highly energetic, वीर्यवान् valiant one, रामः Rama, धनुः bow, आदाय taking up, राक्षसम् Rakshasas, सैन्यम् army, प्रविश्यentered, शरवर्षम् rain of arrows, ववर्ष ह showered

Meaning

Then, the highly energetic and valiant Rama, taking up the bow showered rain of arrows on Rakshasa army.

YK-94-19Yuddha Kanda 94.19

प्रविष्टंतुतदारामंमेघास्सूर्यमिवाम्बरे । नाथिजग्मुर्महाघोरानिर्दहन्तंशराग्निना ।।6.94.19।।

praviṣṭṃtutadārāmṃmeghāssūryamivāmbare | nāthijagmurmahāghorānirdahantṃśarāgninā ||6.94.19||

Translation

तदा then, प्रविष्टम् entered, शराग्निना like fire of arrows, निर्दहन्तम् consuming, रामम् Rama, महाघोराः most dreadful, अम्बरे sky, मेघाः clouds, सूर्यमिव like sun, नाधिजग्मुःnot approach

Meaning

Then Rama entered the army with fire like arrows which were consuming the Rakshasas like the clouds in the sky which can't approach the scorching Sun.

YK-94-20Yuddha Kanda 94.20

कृतान्येवसुघोराणिरामेणरजनीचराः । ददृशुस्ते न वैरामंकर्माण्यसुकराणिते ।।6.94.20।।

kṛtānyevasughorāṇirāmeṇarajanīcarāḥ | dadṛśuste na vairāmṃkarmāṇyasukarāṇite ||6.94.20||

Translation

ते those, रजनीचराः night rangers, रणे in war, रामेण by Rama, कृतानि deeds, सुघोराणि terrible, असुकराणि difficult for others, रामस्य Rama's, कर्माण्येव his action, ददृशुः could not see

Meaning

The night rangers were able to see Rama's terrible action which was difficult for others only after he had performed not otherwise (as they could not see his quick movement).

YK-94-21Yuddha Kanda 94.21

चालयन्तंमहासैन्यंविधमन्तंमहारथान् । ददृशुस्ते न वैरामंवातंवनगतंयथा ।।6.94.21।।

cālayantṃmahāsainyṃvidhamantṃmahārathān | dadṛśuste na vairāmṃvātṃvanagatṃyathā ||6.94.21||

Translation

ते those, महासैन्यम् great army, चालयन्तम् moving, महारथान् huge chariots, विधमन्तम् breaking, रामम् Rama, वनगतम् blowing in the forest, वातंयथा wind like, न ददृशुः not see

Meaning

They could not see Rama while he was moving and breaking huge chariots as one would not be able to see the trees in the forest when the wind blew fast.

YK-94-22Yuddha Kanda 94.22

छिन्नंभिन्नंशरैर्दग्धंप्रभन्नंशस्त्रपीडितम् । बलंरामेणददृशुर्नरामंशीघ्रकारिणम् ।।6.94.22।।

chinnṃbhinnṃśarairdagdhṃprabhannṃśastrapīḍitam | balṃrāmeṇadadṛśurnarāmṃśīghrakāriṇam ||6.94.22||

Translation

रामेण by Rama, शरैः arrows, छिन्नम् shattered, भिन्नम्into pieces, शस्त्रपीडितम् tormented with darts, बलम् army, ददृशुःbeheld, शीघ्रकारिणम् one who is very fast in action, रामम् Rama, न not make out

Meaning

They saw the army shattered, broken into pieces, tormented with darts by Rama but could not make out Rama who was very fast in action.

YK-94-23Yuddha Kanda 94.23

प्रहरन्तंशरीरेषु न तेपश्यन्तिराघवम् । इन्द्रियार्थेषुतिष्ठन्तंभूतात्मानमिवप्रजाः ।।6.94.23।।

praharantṃśarīreṣu na tepaśyantirāghavam | indriyārtheṣutiṣṭhantṃbhūtātmānamivaprajāḥ ||6.94.23||

Translation

शरीरेषु in the body, प्रहरन्तम् hitting, राघवम् Raghava, ते they, इन्द्रियार्थेषु experienced through sense objects, तिष्ठन्तम् enjoying, भूतात्मानम् created beings, प्रजाःइव like people, न पश्यन्ति not able to perceive

Meaning

Just as created beings experience their senses and do not perceive their soul, the army experienced the hitting of Raghava by their senses but were not able to perceive him who was hitting them.

YK-94-24-25Yuddha Kanda 94.24–25 (युग्मम्)

एषहन्तिगजानीकमेषहन्तिमहारथान् । एषहन्तिशरैस्तीक्ष्णैःपदातीस्वाजिभिःसह ।।6.94.24।। इतितेराक्षसास्सर्वेरामस्यसदृशान्रणे । अन्योन्यंकुपिताजघ्नुस्सादृश्याद्राघवस्यते ।।6.94.25।।

eṣahantigajānīkameṣahantimahārathān | eṣahantiśaraistīkṣṇaiḥpadātīsvājibhiḥsaha ||6.94.24|| ititerākṣasāssarverāmasyasadṛśānraṇe | anyonyṃkupitājaghnussādṛśyādrāghavasyate ||6.94.25||

Translation

एषः in that way, गजानीकम् elephants, हन्तिkilling, एषः in the same way, महारथान् mighty chariot warriors, हन्ति destroying, एषः so also, तीक्ष्णैः sharp, शरैः arrows, वाजिभिःसह including horses, पदातीन् foot soldiers, हन्ति killing, इति thus, सर्वे all, तेराक्षसाः those, रणे in battle, रामस्य Rama's, सदृशान् staying there, कुपिताःangry, राघवस्य Raghava's, सादृश्यात् resembled, अन्योन्यम् one another, जघ्नुःattacked

Meaning

'Rama is here killing elephants', 'Here is Rama destroying chariot warriors', 'Rama is killing horses, foot soldiers with sharp arrows', saying like that, the Rakshasas were striking one another in the battle. Being there where Rama was, they were mistaking one another for Rama there because of the socalled resemblance and attacking one another.

YK-94-26Yuddha Kanda 94.26

न तेददृशिरेरामंदहन्तमपिवाहिनीम् । मोहिताःपरमास्त्रणगान्धर्वेणमहात्मना ।।6.94.26।।

na tedadṛśirerāmṃdahantamapivāhinīm | mohitāḥparamāstraṇagāndharveṇamahātmanā ||6.94.26||

Translation

महात्मना great soul, गान्धर्वेणmissile presided over by G and arvas, परमास्त्रण supreme missile, मोहितः confused, ते they, वाहिनीम् army, दहन्तमपि burning, रामम् Rama, न ददृशिरे not able to see

Meaning

The Rakshasas got confused by the supreme missile presided over by Gandharvas, released by Rama, which was burning their army, and were not able to see.

YK-94-27Yuddha Kanda 94.27

तेतुरामसहस्राणिरणेपश्यन्तिराक्षसाः । पुनःपश्यन्तिकाकुत्स्थमेकमेवमहाहवे ।।6.94.27।।

teturāmasahasrāṇiraṇepaśyantirākṣasāḥ | punḥpaśyantikākutsthamekamevamahāhave ||6.94.27||

Translation

रणे in war, तेराक्षसाः those Rakshasas, रामसहस्राणि thousand Ramas, पश्यन्ति saw, महाहवे great battle, पुनः again, एकम् one, काकुत्स्थमेव kakuthsa alone, पश्यन्ति could see

Meaning

In the battle those Rakshasas could see a thousand Ramas at one place and again one Rama alone at another place

YK-94-28Yuddha Kanda 94.28

भ्रमन्तीकाञ्चनींकोटिंकार्मुकस्यमहात्मनः । अलातचक्रप्रतिमांददृशुस्ते न राघवम् ।।6.94.28।।

bhramantīkāñcanīṃkoṭiṃkārmukasyamahātmanḥ | alātacakrapratimāṃdadṛśuste na rāghavam ||6.94.28||

Translation

ते they, महात्मनः great soul, कार्मुकस्य bow's, भ्रमन्ती confusion, काञ्चनीम् golden, अलातचक्रप्रतिमाम् going round in circles, कोटिम् burning firestick, ददृशुः saw, राघवम् Raghava, न not

Meaning

While Rama was going around in circles with his bow, the Rakshasas were confused, and saw the golden ends of the bow to be like a burning fire stick circling and could not see Rama.

YK-94-29-30Yuddha Kanda 94.29–30 (युग्मम्)

शरीरनाभिसत्त्वार्चिश्शरारंनेमिकार्मुकम् । ज्याघोषतलनिर्घोषंतेजोबुधदिगुणप्रभम् ।।6.94.29।। दिव्यास्त्रगुणपर्यन्तंनिघ्नन्तंयुधिराक्षसान् । ददृशूरामचक्रंतत्कालचक्रमिवप्रजाः ।।6.94.30।।

śarīranābhisattvārciśśarārṃnemikārmukam | jyāghoṣatalanirghoṣṃtejobudhadiguṇaprabham ||6.94.29|| divyāstraguṇaparyantṃnighnantṃyudhirākṣasān | dadṛśūrāmacakrṃtatkālacakramivaprajāḥ ||6.94.30||

Translation

प्रजाः people, शरीरनाभिः body as centre of discuss, सत्त्वार्चिः strength as glow, शरारम् arrows as spokes, नेमिकार्मुकम् bow for belly, ज्याघोषतलनिर्घोषम् twangling of the bow string, तेजोबुधदिगुणप्रभम् virtues and effulgence as power of missiles, दिव्यास्त्रगुणपर्यन्तम् power of mystic missiles, युधि in war, राक्षसान् Rakshasas, निघ्नन्तम् killing, कालचक्रमिव like the wheel of time spirit, रामचक्रम् Rama's wheel, ददृशुः seen

Meaning

People saw Rama in the form of wheel exterminating the Rakshasas on the battlefield, which had the body of Sri Rama as its navel, his strength as its glow, the arrows as spokes, his bow as belly, the twangling of the bowstring as its sound, his virtues and effulgence as the power of his mystic missiles in war. Rama was seen as a wheel of time spirit by the people.

YK-94-31-33Yuddha Kanda 94.31–33 (त्रिकम्)

अनीकंदशसाहस्रंरथानांवातरम्हसाम् । अष्टादशसहस्राणिकुञ्जराणांतरस्विनाम् ।।6.94.31।। चतुर्दशसहस्राणिसारोहाणां च वाजिनाम् । पूर्णेशतसहस्रेद्वेराक्षसानांपदातिनाम् ।।6.94.32।। दिवसस्याष्टभागेनशरैरग्निशिखोपमैः । हतात्यान्येकेनरामेणरक्षसांकामरूपिणाम् ।।6.94.33।।

कामरूपिणाम् capable of changing form at will, रक्षसाम् Rakshasas, वातरम्हसाम् of wind speed, रथानाम् chariots, दशसाहस्रम् ten thousands, अनीकम् army, तरस्विनाम् fleetfooted, कुञ्जराणाम् elephants, अष्टादश eighteen, सहस्राणि thousands, सारोहाणाम् with riders, वाजिनाम् horses, चतुर्दशforty, सहस्राणि thousands, पदातिनाम् foot soldiers, राक्षसानाम् Rakshasas, पूर्णे fully, द्वे two, शतसहस्रे hundred thousands, एकेनalone, रामेण by Rama, दिवसस्य in a day, अष्टभागेन eighth part, अग्निशिखोपमैः resembling tongues of fire, शरैः arrows, हतानि were killed

Meaning

In the eighth part of the day, in the battlefield, an army of Rakshasas who were capable of changing their forms at will, constituting a myriad of chariots with wind speed, eighteen thousand fleetfooted elephants, fourteen thousand horses with riders, two lakh Rakshasas fighting on foot exterminated by Rama singlehanded with his arrows that resembled tongues of fire.

YK-94-34Yuddha Kanda 94.34

तेहताश्वाहतरथाश्शान्ताविमथितध्वजाः । अभिपेतुःपुरींलङ्कांहतशेषानिशाचराः ।।6.94.34।।

tehatāśvāhatarathāśśāntāvimathitadhvajāḥ | abhipetuḥpurīṃlaṅkāṃhataśeṣāniśācarāḥ ||6.94.34||

Translation

हताश्वाः dead, हतरथाः chariots destroyed, शान्ताःappeased, विमथितध्वजाः staff of chariots broken, हतशेषाः rest killed, तेनिशाचराः those night rangers, लङ्कांपुरीम् into Lanka, अभिपेतुः returned

Meaning

Rakshasas dead, chariots destroyed, staff of chariots broken, remaining Rakshasas returned to Lanka.

YK-94-35Yuddha Kanda 94.35

हतैर्गजपदात्यश्वैस्तद्बभूवरणाजिरम् । अक्रीडभूमिःक्रुद्धस्यरुद्रस्येवमहात्मनः ।।6.94.35।।

hatairgajapadātyaśvaistadbabhūvaraṇājiram | akrīḍabhūmiḥkruddhasyarudrasyevamahātmanḥ ||6.94.35||

Translation

हतैः killed, गजपदात्यश्वैःelephants, foot soldiers, horses तत् there, रणाजिरम् the battlefield, क्रुद्धस्य angry, महात्मनः great, रुद्रस्य Rudra's, अक्रीडभूमिःइव sports in field, बभूव seen

Meaning

With the elephants, horses, and foot soldiers killed, the battlefield was like the ground where mighty Rudra sported in anger.

YK-94-36Yuddha Kanda 94.36

ततोदेवास्कसगन्धर्वास्सिद्धाश्चपरमर्षयः । साधुसावधितिरामस्यतत्कर्मसमपूजयन् ।।6.94.36।।

tatodevāskasagandharvāssiddhāścaparamarṣayḥ | sādhusāvadhitirāmasyatatkarmasamapūjayan ||6.94.36||

Translation

ततः then, सगन्धर्वाः the Gandharvas, देवाः Devas, सिद्धाश्च Siddhas, परमर्षयः very happy, रामस्य Rama's, तत् कर्म that action, साधुसाधुइति well done well done, समपूजयन् offered prayers

Meaning

Then, the Gandharvas, Devas, and Siddhas were very happy and praised Sri Rama saying, 'well done, well done' and offered prayers.

YK-94-37-38Yuddha Kanda 94.37–38 (युग्मम्)

अब्रवीच्छतदारामःसुग्रीवंप्रत्यनन्तरम् । विभीषणं च धर्मात्माहनूमन्तं च वानरम् ।।6.94.37।। जाम्बवन्तंहरिश्रेष्ठंमैन्दंद्विविदमेव च । एतदस्त्रबलंदिव्यंममवात्ऱ्यम्बकस्यवा ।।6.94.38।।

abravīcchatadārāmḥsugrīvṃpratyanantaram | vibhīṣaṇṃ ca dharmātmāhanūmantṃ ca vānaram ||6.94.37|| jāmbavantṃhariśreṣṭhṃmaindṃdvividameva ca | etadastrabalṃdivyṃmamavātऱyambakasyavā ||6.94.38||

Translation

तदा then, धर्मात्मा righteous, रामः Rama, प्रत्यनन्तरम् nearby, सुग्रीवम् Sugriva, विभीषणं च and Vibheeshana, वानरम् vanaars, हनूमन्तं च and Hanuman, जाम्बवन्तम् Jambavan, हरिश्रेष्ठम् leaders of Vanaras, मैन्धम् Mainda, द्विविदमेव च Dwivida, अब्रवीच्छ spoke, एतत् this, दिव्यम् wonderful, अस्त्रबलम् power of arrows, ममवा mine or, त्ऱ्यम्बकस्यवा Lord siva

Meaning

Then righteous Sri Rama said to nearby Sugriva, Vibheeshana, Hanuman, Jambavan and leaders of Vanaras like Mainda, Dwivida, that the power of these arrows are in him and Lord Siva only.
