YK-76-1Yuddha Kanda 76.1

प्रवृत्तेसङ्कुलेतस्मिन् घोरेवीरजनक्ष्ये । अङ्गदःकम्पनंवीरमाससादरणोत्सुकः ।।6.76.1।।

pravṛttesaṅkuletasmin ghorevīrajanakṣye | aṅgadḥkampanṃvīramāsasādaraṇotsukḥ ||6.76.1||

Translation

घोरे fierce, वीरजनक्ष्ये destruction of heroes, तस्मिन् in that, सङ्कुले combat, प्रवृत्ते ongoing,अङ्गदः Angada, रणोत्सुकः eager to fight, वीरम् gallant, कम्पनम् Kampana, आससाद assailed.

Meaning

While the fierce fight brought destruction of heroes in the ongoing combat, Angada eager to fight, assailed gallant Kampana.

YK-76-2Yuddha Kanda 76.2

आहूयसोङ्गदंकोपात्ताडयामासवेगितः । गदयाकम्पनःपूर्वं स चचालभृशाहतः ।।6.76.2।।

āhūyasoṅgadṃkopāttāḍayāmāsavegitḥ | gadayākampanḥpūrvṃ sa cacālabhṛśāhatḥ ||6.76.2||

Translation

सःकम्पनः that Kampana, अङ्गदम् at Angada, आहूय challenging, पूर्वम् in anticipation, गदया mace, वेगितः swiftly, कोपात् in anger, ताडयामास hurled, भृशाहतः grievously hurt, सः he, चचाल reeled.

Meaning

Kampana struck Angada challenging himin anticipation. He swiftly hurled a mace in anger and hurt him grievously and Angada reeled.

YK-76-3Yuddha Kanda 76.3

स संज्ञांप्राप्यतेजस्वीचिक्षेपशिखरंगिरेः । अर्दितस्तत्प्रहारेणकम्पनःपतितोभुवि ।।6.76.3।।

sa sṃjñāṃprāpyatejasvīcikṣepaśikharṃgireḥ | arditastatprahāreṇakampanḥpatitobhuvi ||6.76.3||

Translation

तेजस्वी rejuvenated, सः he, संज्ञाम् regaining consciousness, प्राप्य acquired, गिरेः mountain, शिखरम् peak, चिक्षेप shattered, कम्पनः Kampana, प्रहारेण blow, अर्दितः wounded, भुवि ground, पतितः fell.

Meaning

Rejuvenated Angada, after gaining consciousness acquired a mountain peak and shattered Kampana with a blow. wounded Kampana fell down.

YK-76-4Yuddha Kanda 76.4

ततस्तुकम्पनंदृष्टवाशोणिताक्षोहतंरणे । रथेनाभ्यपतत् क्षिप्रंतत्राङ्गदमभीतवत् ।।6.76.4।।

tatastukampanṃdṛṣṭavāśoṇitākṣohatṃraṇe | rathenābhyapatat kṣiprṃtatrāṅgadamabhītavat ||6.76.4||

Translation

ततः then, शोणिताक्षः Sonitaksha, रणे in war, हतम् killed, कम्पनम् Kampana, दृष्टवा seeing, तत्र there, अबीतवत् fearless hero, रथेन by chariot, अङ्गदम् to Angada, क्षिप्रम् quickly, अभ्यपतत् reached.

Meaning

Then seeing Kampana killed, Sonitaksha, a fearless hero, quickly reached Angada by chariot.

YK-76-5-6Yuddha Kanda 76.5–6 (युग्मम्)

सोङ्गदंनिशितैर्बाणैस्तदाविव्याधवेगितः । शरीरदारणैस्तीक्ष्णैःकालाग्निसमविग्रहैः ।।6.76.5।। क्षुरक्षुरप्रैर्नाराचैर्वत्सदन्तैश्शिलीमुखैः । कर्णिशल्यविपाठैश्चबहुभिश्चशितैश्शरैः ।।6.76.6।।

soṅgadṃniśitairbāṇaistadāvivyādhavegitḥ | śarīradāraṇaistīkṣṇaiḥkālāgnisamavigrahaiḥ ||6.76.5|| kṣurakṣuraprairnārācairvatsadantaiśśilīmukhaiḥ | karṇiśalyavipāṭhaiścabahubhiścaśitaiśśaraiḥ ||6.76.6||

Translation

सः he, वेगितः swiftly, शरीरदारणैः piercing shafts, तीक्ष्णैः pointed, कालाग्निसमविग्रहैः resembling fire raging at the time of dissolution, निशितैः sharp, बाणैः shafts, अङ्गदम् Angada, विव्याध struck, क्षुरक्षुरप्रनाराचैः known as Ksura, Ksurapra, Naracha, वत्सदन्सैः Vatsadanta, शिलीमुखैः Silimukha, कर्णिशल्यविपादैःच Karni, Salya, Vipada, निशितैः sharp, बहुभिश्च many, शरैः arrows.

Meaning

He (Sonitaksha) swiftly pierced with pointed shafts resembling fire raging at the time of dissolution and struck Angada with arrows known by names, Ksura, Ksurapra, Naracha, Vatsadanta, Silimukha, Karni, Salya, vipada and many sharp arrows.

YK-76-7Yuddha Kanda 76.7

अङ्गदःप्रतिविद्धाङ्गोवालिपुत्रःप्रतापवान् । धनुरग्य्रंरथंबाणान्ममर्दतरसाबली ।।6.76.7।।

aṅgadḥpratividdhāṅgovāliputrḥpratāpavān | dhanuragyrṃrathṃbāṇānmamardatarasābalī ||6.76.7||

Translation

प्रतिविद्धाङ्गः encountered, वालिपुत्रः Vali's son, प्रतापवान् courageous, बली mighty, अङ्गदः Angada, उग्रम् formidable, धनुः bow, रथम् chariot, बाणान् arrows, तरसा vigour, ममर्द crumbled.

Meaning

Courageous son of Vali, the mighty Angada encountered with vigour and crumbled the formidable bow (of Sonitaksha), his chariot and arrows.

YK-76-8Yuddha Kanda 76.8

शोणिताक्षस्ततःक्षिप्रमसिचर्मसमाददे । उत्पपातदिवंक्रुद्धोवेगवानविचारयन् ।।6.76.8।।

śoṇitākṣastatḥkṣipramasicarmasamādade | utpapātadivṃkruddhovegavānavicārayan ||6.76.8||

Translation

ततः there upon, शोणिताक्षः Sonitaksha, क्षिप्रम् quickly, असिचर्म sword, समाददे shield, दिवम् to the sky, क्रुद्धः enraged, वेगवान् at high speed, अविचारयन् unhesitatingly, उत्पपात sprang up.

Meaning

Thereupon enraged Sonitaksha, quickly sprang up to the sky at high speed with sword and shield.

YK-76-9Yuddha Kanda 76.9

तंक्षिप्रतरमाफ्लुत्यपरामृश्याङ्गदोबली । करेणतस्यतंखङ्गंसमाच्छिद्यननाद च ।।6.76.9।।

tṃkṣiprataramāphlutyaparāmṛśyāṅgadobalī | kareṇatasyatṃkhaṅgṃsamācchidyananāda ca ||6.76.9||

Translation

बली mighty, अङ्गदः Angada, क्षिप्रतरम् at a higher speed, आफ्लुत्य springing up, तम् him, परामृश्य grasped, करेण by hand, तस्य his, खङ्गम् sword, आच्छिद्य irritated, ननाद च making loud noise.

Meaning

Mighty Angada springing up at a higher speed grasped his (Sonitaksha) hand and irritated him with a sword making loud noise.

YK-76-10Yuddha Kanda 76.10

तस्यांसफलकेखडगंनिजघानततोऽङ्गदः । यज्ञोपवीतवच्चैनंचिच्छेदकपिकुञ्जरः ।।6.76.10।।

tasyāṃsaphalakekhaḍagṃnijaghānatato'ṅgadḥ | yajñopavītavaccainṃcicchedakapikuñjarḥ ||6.76.10||

Translation

ततः then, अङ्गदः Angada, तस्य his, अंसफलके fl at surface, खडगम् sword, निजघान pierced, कपिकुञ्जरः monkey leader, एनम् in that way, यज्ञोपवतवत् diagonally, चिच्छेद cut him.

Meaning

Then Angada pierced his sword on the fl at surface of his shoulder diagonally and cut him with his sword.

YK-76-11Yuddha Kanda 76.11

तंप्रगृह्यमहाखडगंविनद्य च पुनःपुनः । वालिपुत्रोऽभिदुद्रावरणशीर्षेपरानरीन् ।।6.76.11।।

tṃpragṛhyamahākhaḍagṃvinadya ca punḥpunḥ | vāliputro'bhidudrāvaraṇaśīrṣeparānarīn ||6.76.11||

Translation

वालिपुत्रः Vali's son, तंमहाखडगम् that great sword, प्रगृह्य seizing, पुनःपुनः again and again, विनद्य च roaring, परीन् to final termination, अरीन् enemy, रणशीर्षे left over in the fight, अभिदुद्राव went forward.

Meaning

Vali's son, seizing that great sword again and again, roaring to finally terminate the remaining Rakshasas, went forward.

YK-76-12Yuddha Kanda 76.12

आयसींतुगदांप्रगृह्य स वीरःकनकाङ्गदः । शोणिताक्षस्समाविध्यतमेवानुपपात ह ।।6.76.12।।

āyasīṃtugadāṃpragṛhya sa vīrḥkanakāṅgadḥ | śoṇitākṣassamāvidhyatamevānupapāta ha ||6.76.12||

Translation

वीरः hero, कनकाङ्गदः adorned with golden armlets, सः he, शोणिताः Sonitha, समाविध्य recovering, आयसीम् iron, गदाम् mace, प्रगृह्य taking hold, तमेव with that, अनुपपात ह rushed behind.

Meaning

Sonitha adorned with golden armlets taking hold of iron mace rushed behind Angada.

YK-76-13Yuddha Kanda 76.13

प्रजङ्घसहितोवीरोयूपाक्षस्तुततोबली । रथेनाभिययौक्रुद्दोवालिपुत्रंमहाबलम् ।।6.76.13।।

prajaṅghasahitovīroyūpākṣastutatobalī | rathenābhiyayaukruddovāliputrṃmahābalam ||6.76.13||

Translation

ततः then, वीरः hero, बली mighty, यूपाक्षस्तु Yupaksha also, प्रजङ्घसहितः Prajagna for his part, क्रुद्धः angry, महाबलम् mighty, वालिपुत्रम् Angada, रथेन chariot, अभिययौ assailed.

Meaning

Then mighty Yupaksha, and Prajaghna for his part in fury assailed mighty Angada's chariot.

YK-76-14Yuddha Kanda 76.14

तयोर्मध्येकपिश्रेष्ठश्शोणिताक्षप्रजङ्घयोः । विशाखयोर्मध्यगतःपूर्णचन्द्रइवाभवत् ।।6.76.14।।

tayormadhyekapiśreṣṭhaśśoṇitākṣaprajaṅghayoḥ | viśākhayormadhyagatḥpūrṇacandraivābhavat ||6.76.14||

Translation

तयोः both of them, शोणिताक्षप्रजङ्घयोः Sonitaksha and Prajaghna, मध्ये midst, कपिश्रेष्ठः foremost of monkeys, विशाखयोः Visakha, मध्यगतः coming in between, पूर्णचन्द्रःइव like full moon, आभवत् shone.

Meaning

Angada, the foremost of Vanaras, coming between both Sonitaksha and Prajaghna shone like a full moon between the Visakha stars.

YK-76-15Yuddha Kanda 76.15

अङ्गदंपरिरक्षन्तौमैन्दोद्विविदएव च । तस्यतस्थतुरभ्याशेपरस्परदिदृक्ष्या ।।6.76.15।।

aṅgadṃparirakṣantaumaindodvividaeva ca | tasyatasthaturabhyāśeparasparadidṛkṣyā ||6.76.15||

Translation

मैन्दः Mainda, द्विविदःएव even Dwivida, अङ्गदम् Angada, परिरक्षन्तौ for protection, परस्परदीदृक्ष्या one another to hold in check, तस्य his, अभ्याशे facing the enemy, तस्थतुः took position.

Meaning

Both Mainda and Dwivida (maternal uncles of Angada) took position for the protection of one another facing the enemy.

YK-76-16Yuddha Kanda 76.16

भिपेतुर्महाकायाःप्रतियत्तामहाबलाः । राक्षसावानरान् रोषादसिचर्मगदाधराः ।।6.76.16।।

bhipeturmahākāyāḥpratiyattāmahābalāḥ | rākṣasāvānarān roṣādasicarmagadādharāḥ ||6.76.16||

Translation

महाकायाः of huge body, महाबलाः stupendous strength, राक्षसाः Rakshasa, प्रतियत्ताः vigilant, असिचर्मगदाधराः wielding sword and mace, रोषात् agitated, वानरान् Vanaras, अभिषेतुः assailed.

Meaning

Rakshasas wielding swords and mace, endowed with stupendous strength and of huge body agitated and assailed Vanaras.

YK-76-17Yuddha Kanda 76.17

त्रयाणांवानरेन्द्राणांत्रिभीराक्षसपुङ्गवैः । संसक्तानांमहद्युद्धमभवद्रोमहर्षणम् ।।6.76.17।।

trayāṇāṃvānarendrāṇāṃtribhīrākṣasapuṅgavaiḥ | sṃsaktānāṃmahadyuddhamabhavadromaharṣaṇam ||6.76.17||

Translation

त्रिभिः three, राक्षसपुङ्गवैः Rakshasa leaders, संसक्तानाम् momentous, त्रयाणाम् with the three, वानरेन्द्राणाम् Vanara chiefs, रोमहर्षणम् horripilation, महत् momentous, युद्धम् war, अभवत् took place.

Meaning

A momentous war took place between the three Rakshasas (Prajaghna, Yupaksha and Sonitaksha) and Vanara chiefs (Angada, Dwivida and Mainda) that caused horripilation.

YK-76-18Yuddha Kanda 76.18

तेतुवृक्षान् समादायसम्प्रचिपुराहवे । खडगेनप्रतिचिच्छेदतान् प्रजङ्घोमहाबलः ।।6.76.18।।

tetuvṛkṣān samādāyasampracipurāhave | khaḍagenapraticicchedatān prajaṅghomahābalḥ ||6.76.18||

Translation

आहवे in the combat, ते they, वृक्षान् trees, समादाय taking, सम्प्रचिक्षिपुः at that time shattered, महाबलः mighty, प्रजङ्घः Prajaghana, खडगेन with sword, तान् them, प्रतिचिच्छेद violently hurled.

Meaning

In the comb at the Vanaras seizing hold of trees hurled violently and mighty Prajaghna with his sword shattered them

YK-76-19Yuddha Kanda 76.19

रथानश्वान् द्रुमैश्शैलैस्तेप्रचिक्षिपुराहवे । शरौघैःप्रतिचिच्छेदतान्यूपाक्षोनिशाचरः ।।6.76.19।।

rathānaśvān drumaiśśailaistepracikṣipurāhave | śaraughaiḥpraticicchedatānyūpākṣoniśācarḥ ||6.76.19||

Translation

आहवे in that war, रथान् chariots, अश्वान् horses, द्रुमान् trees, शैलान् rocks, प्रतिचिक्षिपुः encountered, निशाचरः night rangers, यूपाक्षः Yupaksha, तान् them, शरौघैः tore them चिच्छेद , shattered.

Meaning

In that war the Vanaras hurled trees, rocks on chariots and horses and Yupaksha encountered them and tore them.

YK-76-20Yuddha Kanda 76.20

सृष्टाव्निविदमैन्दाभ्यांद्रुमानुत्पाट्यवीर्यवान् । बभञ्जगदयामध्येशोणिताक्षःप्रतापवान् ।।6.76.20।।

sṛṣṭāvnividamaindābhyāṃdrumānutpāṭyavīryavān | babhañjagadayāmadhyeśoṇitākṣḥpratāpavān ||6.76.20||

Translation

वीर्यवान् heroic, प्रतापवान् courageous, शोणिताक्षः Sonitaksha, द्विविदमैन्दाभ्याम् with Dwivida and Mainda, उत्पाट्य hurled, सृष्टान् tearing, द्रुमान् trees, गदया by mace, मध्ये midway, बभञ्ज crushed.

Meaning

Heroic and courageous Sonitaksha tore the trees hurled by Dwivida and Mainda in midway by his mace and crushed them.

YK-76-21Yuddha Kanda 76.21

उद्यम्यविपुलंखडगंपरमर्मनिकृन्तनम् । प्रजङ्घोवालिपुत्रायअभिदुद्राववेगितः ।।6.76.21।।

udyamyavipulṃkhaḍagṃparamarmanikṛntanam | prajaṅghovāliputrāyaabhidudrāvavegitḥ ||6.76.21||

Translation

प्रजङ्घः Prajaghna, परमर्मनिकृन्तनम् that which can pierce into private parts, विपुलम् huge, खडगम् sword, उद्यम्य taking up, वेगितः swiftly, वालिपुत्राय Angada's, अभिदुद्राव went forward and assailed.

Meaning

Prajaghna taking up a huge sword went forward swiftly and assailed Angada.

YK-76-22Yuddha Kanda 76.22

तमभ्याशगतंदृष्टवावानरेन्द्रोमहाबलः । आजघानाश्वकर्णेनद्रुमेणातिबलस्तदा ।।6.76.22।।

tamabhyāśagatṃdṛṣṭavāvānarendromahābalḥ | ājaghānāśvakarṇenadrumeṇātibalastadā ||6.76.22||

Translation

तदा then, महाबलः endowed with extraordinary strength, अतिबलः of stupendous power, वानरेन्द्रः Vanara leader, अभ्याशगतम् coming forward, तम् him, दृष्टवा seeing, अश्वकर्णेव Aswakarna, द्रुमेण tree, आजघान hit him.

Meaning

Then Vanara leader Angada who was endowed with extraordinary strength, seeing Prajaghna of stupendous power coming forward, hit him with Aswakarna tree.

YK-76-23Yuddha Kanda 76.23

बाहुंचास्यसनिस्त्रिंशमाजघान स मुष्टिना । वालिपुत्रस्यघातेन स पपातक्षितावसिः ।।6.76.23।।

bāhuṃcāsyasanistriṃśamājaghāna sa muṣṭinā | vāliputrasyaghātena sa papātakṣitāvasiḥ ||6.76.23||

Translation

सः he, Angada, अस्य his, सनिस्त्रिंशम् which held the sword, बाहुम् shoulders, मुष्टिना with his fist, आजघान hit him, वालिपुत्रस्य Angada, घातेन by the blow, सःअसिः that sword, क्षितौ broken, पपात fell.

Meaning

Angada hit the shoulder of Prajaghna which held the sword, with his fist. By that blow the sword got broken and dropped down

YK-76-24Yuddha Kanda 76.24

तंदृष्टवापतितंभूमौखङ्गमुलसन्निभम् । मुष्टिंसम्वर्तयामासवज्रकल्पंमहाबलः ।।6.76.24।।

tṃdṛṣṭavāpatitṃbhūmaukhaṅgamulasannibham | muṣṭiṃsamvartayāmāsavajrakalpṃmahābalḥ ||6.76.24||

Translation

भूमौ on the ground, पतितम् fallen, मुलसन्निभम् pestle shape, तंखङ्गम् that sword, दृष्टवा seeing, महाबलः mighty, वज्रकल्पम् hard as thunderbolt, मुष्टिम् fist, सम्वर्तयामास clenched.

Meaning

Seeing the pestle shaped sword fallen on the ground, mighty Prajaghna clenched his fist, which was as hard as the thunderbolt.

YK-76-25Yuddha Kanda 76.25

स ललाटेमहावीर्यमङ्गदंवानरर्षभम् । आजघानमहातेजास्समुहूर्तंचचाल ह ।।6.76.25।।

sa lalāṭemahāvīryamaṅgadṃvānararṣabham | ājaghānamahātejāssamuhūrtṃcacāla ha ||6.76.25||

Translation

महातेजाः of extraordinary energy, सः he, Sonitaksha, महावीर्यम् highly valiant, वानरर्षभम् Vanara bull, अङ्गदम् Angada, ललाटे forehead, आजघान hit, सः he, मुहर्तम् for a while, चचाल ह unable to move.

Meaning

Sonitaksha of extraordinary energy hit at the forehead of highly valiant Angada. For a while Angada was unable to move.

YK-76-26Yuddha Kanda 76.26

स संज्ञांप्राप्यतेजस्वीवालिपुत्रःप्रतापवान् । प्रजङ्घस्यशिरःकायातखङ्गेनपातयत्क्षितौ ।।6.76.26।।

sa sṃjñāṃprāpyatejasvīvāliputrḥpratāpavān | prajaṅghasyaśirḥkāyātakhaṅgenapātayatkṣitau ||6.76.26||

Translation

तेजस्वी full of vigour, प्रतापवान् courageous, सः he, वालिपुत्र Vali's son, संज्ञाम् regaining, प्राप्य hit, खङ्गेना by the sword, प्रजङ्घस्य Prajaghna's, शिरः head, कायात् his trunk, पातयत्क्षितौ made to fall down.

Meaning

Son of Vali, who was full of vigour, on regaining consciousness hit Prajaghna on the head and trunk and made him fall down.

YK-76-27Yuddha Kanda 76.27

स यूपाक्षोऽश्रुपूर्णाक्षःपितृव्येनिहतेरणे । अवरुह्यरथात्क्षिप्रंक्षीणेषुखङ्गमाददे ।।6.76.27।।

sa yūpākṣo'śrupūrṇākṣḥpitṛvyenihateraṇe | avaruhyarathātkṣiprṃkṣīṇeṣukhaṅgamādade ||6.76.27||

Translation

रणे in fight, पितृव्ये uncle, निहते fallen hurt, सः he, यूपाक्षः Yupaksha, अश्रुपूर्णाक्षः eyes filled with tears, क्षीणेषुः exhausted, क्षिप्रम् instantly, रथात् chariot, अवरुह्य alighting, खङ्गम् sword, आददे wielded.

Meaning

Instantly alighting from the chariot, Yupaksha seeing the uncle exhausted and hurt, eyes filled with tears, he wielded the sword.

YK-76-28Yuddha Kanda 76.28

तमापतन्तंसम्प्रेक्ष्ययूपाक्षंद्विविदस्त्वरन् । आजघानोरसिक्रुद्धोजग्राह च बलाद्बली ।।6.76.28।।

tamāpatantṃsamprekṣyayūpākṣṃdvividastvaran | ājaghānorasikruddhojagrāha ca balādbalī ||6.76.28||

Translation

द्विविदः Dwivida, त्वरन् quickly, आपतन्तम् fallen, तंयूपाक्षम् Yupakasha, सम्प्रेक्ष्य observing, क्रुद्धः furious, उरसि bosom, आजघान marched, बली , बलात् with force, जग्राह caught.

Meaning

Observing Yupakasha fallen and rushing quickly, furious Dwivida struck him in the bosom with force and caught him

YK-76-29Yuddha Kanda 76.29

गृहीतंभ्रातरंदृष्टवाशोणिताक्षोमहाबलः । आजघानगदाग्रेणवक्षसिद्विविदंततः ।।6.76.29।।

gṛhītṃbhrātarṃdṛṣṭavāśoṇitākṣomahābalḥ | ājaghānagadāgreṇavakṣasidvividṃtatḥ ||6.76.29||

Translation

ततः then, गदाग्रेण with the mace, शोणिताक्षः Sonitaksha, महाबलम् of great strength, भ्रातरम् brother, गृहीतम् being caught, दृष्टवा seeing, द्विविदम् Dwivida, वक्षसि from the bosom, आजघान struck.

Meaning

Then seeing the brother caught, mighty Sonitaksha struck Dwivida in the bosom by a mace.

YK-76-30Yuddha Kanda 76.30

स गदाभिहतस्तेनसञ्चचालमहाबलः । उद्यता च पुनस्तस्यजहारद्विविदोगदाम् ।।6.76.30।।

sa gadābhihatastenasañcacālamahābalḥ | udyatā ca punastasyajahāradvividogadām ||6.76.30||

Translation

गदा mace, तेन by that, अभिहतः reeled, महाबलः mighty, सःद्विविदः that Dwivida, सञ्चचाल not move, पुनः again, उद्यताम् uplifted, तस्य his, गदाम् mace, जहार snatched.

Meaning

Dwivida, though mighty reeled and could not move when struck by Sonitaksha. He got up and again and snatched the mace from Sonithaksha.

YK-76-31Yuddha Kanda 76.31

तस्मिन्नन्तरेमैन्दोवीरोवानरयूथपः । यूपाक्षंताडयामासतलेनोरसिवीर्यवान् ।।6.76.31।।

तौशोणिताक्ष्यूपाक्षौप्लवङ्गाभ्यांतरस्विनौ । चक्रतुस्समरेतीव्रमाकर्षोत्पाटनंभृशम् ।।6.76.32।।

समरे in that fight, तौ the two, तरस्विनौ courageous, शोणिताक्ष्यूपाक्षौ Sonitaksha and Yupaksha, प्लवङ्गाभ्याम् monkeys, भृशम् violently, तीव्रम् intense, आकर्षोत्पाटनम् one another pulling and over throwing, चक्रतुः contested.

Meaning

In that fight, courageous Sonitaksha and Yupaksha contested with the two monkeys pulling one another violently and throwing intensely.

द्विविदश्शोणिताक्षंतुविददारनखैर्मुखै । निष्पिपेष च वेगेनक्षितावाविध्यवीर्यवान् ।।6.76.33।।

वीर्यवान् valiant, द्विविदः Dwivida, नखैः nails, शोणिताक्षम् Sonitaksha, मुखे face, विददार tearing, वेगेन quickening his pace, क्षितौ on the surface of the ground, आविध्य thrown with force, निष्पिपेष च bruising.

Meaning

Valiant Dwivida, for his part, tore Sonitaksha on his face with his nails, and quickening his pace threw him on the surface of the ground and bruised him.

पाक्षमभिसङ्कृद्धो मैन्दो वानरयूथपः । पीडयामासबाहुभ्यांसपपातहतःक्षितौ ।।6.76.34।।

हतप्रवीराव्यथिताराक्षसेन्द्रचमूस्तदा । जगामाभिमुखीसातुकुम्भकर्णसुतोयतः ।।6.76.35।।

Translation

तदा then, हतप्रवीरा heroes dead, सा many, राक्षसेन्द्रचमूः Rakshasa king's army, व्यथिता distressed, कुम्भकर्णसुतः son of Kumbhakarna, यतः like that, अभिमुखी went towards, जगाम went.

Meaning

Then many heroes died, Rakshasa king's army was distressed and went towards where Kumbhakarna's son was fighting.

कुम्भः Kumbha, वेगेन quickly, आपतन्तीम् restored confidence, तांचमूम् of the troops, सान्त्वयत् , अथ and then, तेजस्वी energetic, कुम्भः Kumbha, महावीर्यैः great hero, लब्धलक्षैः favourable opportunity, प्लवंगमैः monkeys, निपातितमहावीराम् eminent heroes struck down, रक्षश्चमूम् of Rakshasa army, दृष्टवा seeing, ततः then, रणे in the battlefield, सुदुष्करम् very difficult, अथोत्कष्टम् drawn up excellent, कर्म task, चक्रे performed.

Meaning

Kumbha quickly restored the confidence of the troops. Then energetic Kumbha seeing the eminent heroes of Rakshasa army struck down, he found a favourable opportunity and drew up an excellent strategy and performed an extremely difficult deed in the battlefield.

स धनुर्धन्विनांश्रेष्ठःप्रगृह्यसुसमाहितः । मुमोचाशीविषप्रख्यान्शरान्देहविदारणान् ।।6.76.38।।

sa dhanurdhanvināṃśreṣṭhḥpragṛhyasusamāhitḥ | mumocāśīviṣaprakhyānśarāndehavidāraṇān ||6.76.38||

Translation

धन्विनाम् wielder of bow, श्रेष्ठः foremost, सः he, धनुः bow, प्रगृह्य taking, सुसमाहितः fully composed, आशीविषप्रख्यान् resembling poisonous serpents, देहविदारणान् capable of tearing the body, शरान् arrows, मुमोच released.

Meaning

He (Kumbha), the foremost wielder of bow, taking up the bow, remaining fully composed released arrows that resembled poisonous serpents capable of tearing the flesh.

YK-76-39Yuddha Kanda 76.39

तस्यतच्छुशुभेभूयस्सशरंधनुरुत्तमम् । विद्युदैरावतार्चिष्मद्िद्वतीयेन्द्रधनुर्यथा ।।6.76.39।।

सशरम् those arrows, उत्तमम् best, तस्य his, तत् that, धनुः bow, विद्युदैरावतार्चिष्मत् shining like the cloud with flashes of lightning, द्वितीयेन्द्रधनुः second bow of Indra यथा like that, भूयः shone, शुशुभे released.

Meaning

Those best arrows fixed to the bow were shining like the cloud with flashes of lightning, and like a second bow of Indra.

आकर्णाकृष्टमुक्तेनजघानद्विविदंतदा । तेनहाटकपुङ्खेनपत्रतिणापत्त्रवाससा ।।6.76.40।।

Translation

तदा then, आकर्णाकृष्टमुक्तेन stretched till the ear and released, हाटकपुङ्खेन fixed with wings, पत्त्रवाससा arrow loosened to kill, तेन by that, पत्रतिणा golden shafted arrow, द्विविदम् Dwivida, जघान struck.

Meaning

Then he struck Dwivida with a golden shafted arrow that was loosened to kill by stretching the bow till the ear and released.

महाबलः mighty, ताम् him, शिलाम् rock, राक्षसाय Rakshasa, प्रचिक्षेप hurled to crush, कुम्भः Kumbha, प्रसन्नैः sharp, पञ्चभिः five, शरैः arrows, तांशिलाम् that rock, बिभेद broken.

Meaning

The mighty Vanara (Mainda) for his part hurled the rock to crush the Rakshasa. Kumbha attacked him with five sharp arrows and rock got broken.

Meaning

Vali's son was not shaken by the strike, showered rain of rocks and trees on his (Kumbha) forehead.

स प्रचिच्छेदतान् सर्वान् बिभेद च पुनश्शिलाः । कुम्भकर्णात्मजश्रशीमान् वालिपुत्त्रसमीरितान् ।।6.76.50।।

sa pracicchedatān sarvān bibheda ca punaśśilāḥ | kumbhakarṇātmajaśraśīmān vāliputtrasamīritān ||6.76.50||

Translation

श्रीमान् prosperous, कुम्भकर्णात्मजः Kumbhakarna's son, सः he, वालिपुत्त्रसमीरितान् rained by Vali's son, तान् those, सर्वान् all, प्रचिच्छेद shattered, शिलाःपुनः rocks and again, बिभेद च broken also.

Meaning

Prosperous Kumbhakarna's son also shattered the rocks hurled on him, breaking them.

Translation

तस्य his, रुधिरम् blood, सुस्राव flowed, अस्य his, लोचने eyes, पिहिते च from the injury, अङ्गदः Angada, रुधिरोक्षिते eyes veiled by blood, नेत्रे eyes, पाणिना hand s, पिधाय covering, एकेन one, पाणिना hand, आसन्नम् nearby, सालम् sal tree, परिजग्राह took hold of.

Meaning

Blood flowed from his injured eyes and his eyes got veiled by blood. Covering his eyes with one hand he took hold of a Sal tree nearby.

सम्पीड्यरसिचास्कन्धम् करेणाभिनिवेश्य च ।।6.76.53।। किञ्चिदभ्यवनम्यैनमुन्ममाथयथागजः ।

sampīḍyarasicāskandham kareṇābhiniveśya ca ||6.76.53|| kiñcidabhyavanamyainamunmamāthayathāgajḥ |

Translation

सस्कन्धम् trunk, उरसि chest, सम्पीड्य compressing, करेण with hand, अभिनिवेश्य च bending forward, किञ्चित् a little, अभ्यवनम्य its branches, महारणे in the great fight, एनम् in that way, उन्ममाथ tore, यथागजः like an elephant.

Compressing the trunk of the tree on the chest with one hand and bending forward a little its branches with another hand, he (Angada) tore Kumbha in that way in the great fight like an elephant.

Translation

सर्वरक्षसाम् all Rakshasas, पश्यताम् seeing, इन्द्रकेतुप्रतिमम् resembling Indra's banner, मन्दरसन्निभम् like the Mandara mountain, तंवृक्षम् that tree, वेगेन hurriedly, समुत्सृजन्तम् impatiently.

Meaning

All the Rakshasas seeing the tall tree, which was like Mandara mountain, resembling Indra's banner hurriedly was about to let loose.

सबिभेदशितैर्बाणैस्सप्तभिःकायभेदनैः ।।6.76.55।। अङ्गदोविव्यधेऽभीक्षणंससादचमुमोह च ।

Translation

व्यथितं tormented, सीदन्तम् sinking into despondency, सागरम् इव like into an ocean, दुरासदम् difficult to encounter, अङ्गदम् Angada, दृष्टवा seeing, हरिश्रेष्ठाः foremost of monkeys, रामाय to Rama, न्यवेदयन् submitted.

Meaning

Seeing the foremost Vanara, Angada who was difficult to encounter fell and like sinking into the ocean of despondency, the foremost Vanaras submitted to Rama.

रामस्तुव्यथितंश्रुत्वावालिपुत्त्रंरणाजरे ।।6.76.57।। व्यादिदेशहरिश्रेष्ठान्जाम्बवत्प्रमुखांस्ततः ।

Translation

ततः then, रामः Rama, रणाजरे in the battlefield, वालिपुत्रम् Vali's son, व्यथितम् pained, श्रुत्वा hearing, जाम्बवत्प्रमुखान् Jambavan and other leaders, हरिश्रेष्ठान् best of monkeys, व्यादेश ordered.

Meaning

On hearing that Angada was tormented in the battlefield and pained he ordered Jambavan and the best of monkey leaders to help him.

Translation

ते those, वानरशार्दूलाः Vanara tigers, रामस्य Rama's, शासनम् command, श्रुत्वा hearing, सुसङ्कृद्धाः very angry, उद्यतकार्मुकम् took up his bow, कुम्भम् Kumbha, अभिपेतुः to attack.

Meaning

On hearing Rama's command, the enraged Vanara tigers took up bows to attack Kumbha.

Translation

आपततः advancing, महाबलान् great army, तान् them, वानरेन्द्रान् Vanara leaders, समीक्ष्य perceiving, जलाशयम् torrent, नगेनेव like a mountain, शरौघेण with volley of arrows, आववार obstructed.

Meaning

Perceiving that great army of Vanara leaders are advancing, Kumbha obstructed them with a volley of arrows just like a mountain obstructing the path of torrent.

YK-76-62Yuddha Kanda 76.62

तस्यबाणपथंप्राप्य न शेकुरतिवर्तितुम् ।।6.76.62।। वानरेन्द्रामहात्मानोवेलामिवमहादधिः ।

tasyabāṇapathṃprāpya na śekurativartitum ||6.76.62|| vānarendrāmahātmānovelāmivamahādadhiḥ |

Translation

महात्मानः great self, वानरेंद्राः Vanara leader, तस्य his, बाणपथम् range of arrows, प्राप्य reaching, महोदधिः great ocean, वेलाम् इव like tide, अतिवर्तितुम् overstep, न शेकुः become unsuccessful.

Meaning

The Vanara leaders could not bear the range of arrows of Kumbhaka, just as a tide can't overstep the shore of an ocean.

YK-76-63-64Yuddha Kanda 76.63–64 (युग्मम्)

शरवृष्टिभि rain of arrows, अर्दितान् pained, तान् them, हरिगणान् Vanara army, दृष्टवा seeing, प्लवगेश्वरः Lord of Vanaras, सुग्रीवः Sugriva, भ्रातृजम् brother's son, अङ्गदम् Angada, पृष्ठतःकृत्वा in the rear, रणे in combat, वेगवान् endowed with speed, केसरी lion, शैलसानुचरम् roaming in the mountains, नागमिव like elephant, वेगेन swiftly, कुम्भमाहवे Kumbhakarna's son, अभिदुद्राव assailed.

Meaning

Seeing the Vanara army pained by the rain of arrows, Sugriva, the Lord of Vanaras having Angada in his rear, swiftly rushed and assailed Kumbhakarna's son just like a lion roaming in the mountains attacks elephants.

YK-76-65Yuddha Kanda 76.65

उत्पाट्य च महाशैलनश्वकर्णान्दवान्बहून् ।।6.76.65।। अन्यांश्चविविधान्ववृक्षाचिक्षेपचिमहाबलः ।

utpāṭya ca mahāśailanaśvakarṇāndavānbahūn ||6.76.65|| anyāṃścavividhānvavṛkṣācikṣepacimahābalḥ |

Translation

सः he, महाबलः mighty strong, अश्वकर्णान्दवान् Aswakarna, बहून् many, महाशैलान् huge trees, उत्पाट्य uprooting, विविधान् several, अन्यान् others, वृक्षान् च trees, चिक्षेप hurled them.

Meaning

Mighty strong he was, uprooting Aswakarna and many other several kinds of trees he hurled at them (Rakshasas).

YK-76-66Yuddha Kanda 76.66

तांछादयन्तीमाकाशंवृक्षवृष्टिंदुरासदाम् ।।6.76.66।। कुम्भकर्णात्मजश्शीघ्रंचिच्छेदनिशितैश्शरैः ।

tāṃchādayantīmākāśṃvṛkṣavṛṣṭiṃdurāsadām ||6.76.66|| kumbhakarṇātmajaśśīghrṃcicchedaniśitaiśśaraiḥ |

Translation

शीघ्रं frenzied, कुम्भकर्णात्मजः Kumbhakarna's son, आकाशम् space, छादयन्तीम् covering, दुरासदाम् difficult to approach, ताम् them, वृक्षवृष्टिम् shower of trees, निशितैः sharp, शरैः arrows, चिच्छेद torn asunder.

Meaning

Frenzied Kumbhakarna's son was torn under the shower of trees that covered space with sharp arrows which was difficult to approach.

YK-76-67Yuddha Kanda 76.67

अभिलक्षेणतीव्रेणकुम्भेननिशितैश्शरैः ।।6.76.67।। अचितास्तेद्रुमारेजुर्यथाघोराषतघ्नयः ।

abhilakṣeṇatīvreṇakumbhenaniśitaiśśaraiḥ ||6.76.67|| acitāstedrumārejuryathāghorāṣataghnayḥ |

Translation

अभिलक्षेण aimed at the target, तीव्रेण violently, कुम्भेन by Kumbha, निशितैः sharp, शरैः arrows, अचितास्तेद्रुमा covered with trees, ते those, घोराः dreadful, शतघ्नयःयथा like Sataghnis, रेजुः shone.

Meaning

The sharp arrows aimed at the target by Kumbha covered the trees and they shone like dreadful Sataghnis.

YK-76-68Yuddha Kanda 76.68

द्रुमवर्षंतुसञ्छिन्नंदृष्टवाकुम्भोनवीर्यवान् ।।6.76.68।। वानराधिपति: शीमान्महासत्त्वो न विव्यथे ।

Translation

वीर्यवान् valiant hero, श्रीमान् prosperous, महासत्वः very noble, वानराधिपतिः Vanara chief, कुम्भेन at Kumbha, सञ्छिन्नम् tormented, तत् that, द्रुमवर्षम् rain of trees, दृष्टवा seeing, न विव्यथे not distressed.

Meaning

Valiant hero, the prosperous and noble Sugriva, the chief of Vanaras did not get distressed when tormented with rain of trees.

YK-76-69Yuddha Kanda 76.69

निर्भिद्यमानस्सहसासहमानश्चतान् शरान् ।।6.76.69।। कुम्भस्यधनुराक्षिप्यबभञ्जेन्द्रधनुष्प्रभम् ।

nirbhidyamānassahasāsahamānaścatān śarān ||6.76.69|| kumbhasyadhanurākṣipyababhañjendradhanuṣprabham |

Translation

निर्भिद्यमानः snatching, सः he, तान् them, शरान् arrows, सहमानः tolerating the pain, कुम्भस्य Kumbha's, इन्द्रधनुष्प्रभम् like Indra's rainbow, धनुः bow, सहसा forcibly, आक्षिप्य pulling, बभञ्च broke.

Meaning

He snatched the bow of Kumbha forcibly which was like Indra's rainbow, pulled it and broke, while tolerating the pain of the arrows.

YK-76-70Yuddha Kanda 76.70

अवफ्लुत्यततश्शीघ्रंकृत्वाकर्मसुदुष्करम् ।।6.76.70।। अब्रवीत्कुपितःकुम्भंभग्नशृङ्गमिवद्विपम् ।

avaphlutyatataśśīghrṃkṛtvākarmasuduṣkaram ||6.76.70|| abravītkupitḥkumbhṃbhagnaśṛṅgamivadvipam |

Translation

ततः then, शीघ्रम् speedily, अवफ्लुत leaping, सुदुष्करम् very difficult, कर्म deed, कृत्वा having done, कुपितः angry, भग्नशृङ्गम् peak broken, द्विपम् इव flame like, कुम्भम् elephant, अब्रवीत् spoke.

Meaning

Then Sugriva leapt into the chariot, which was a difficult deed to perform, saw Kumbha who was like an elephant and whose tusks were broken and spoke.

YK-76-71Yuddha Kanda 76.71

निकुम्भाग्रजवीर्यंतेबाणवेगवदद्भुतम् ।।6.76.71।। सन्नतिश्चप्रभावश्चतववारावणस्यवा ।

nikumbhāgrajavīryṃtebāṇavegavadadbhutam ||6.76.71|| sannatiścaprabhāvaścatavavārāvaṇasyavā |

Translation

निकुम्भाग्रज elder brother of Nikumbha, ते your, वीर्यम् valour, बाणवेगवत् by the speed of your arrow, अद्भुतम् wonderful, सन्नतिश्च compliance, प्रभावश्च glory, तववा of yours, रावणस्यवा or Ravana's.

Meaning

"Oh, elder brother of Nikumbha! Your valour, speed of your arrows, compliance, and glory is wonderful like that of Ravana's."

YK-76-72Yuddha Kanda 76.72

प्रह्लादबलिवृत्रघ्नकुभेरवरुणोपम ।।6.76.72।। एकस्त्वमनुजातोऽसिपितरंबलवृत्ततः ।

Translation

प्रह्लादबलिवृत्रघ्नकुबेरवरुणोपम Prahlada, Bali, Indra, Kubera, Varuna, त्वम् you, एकः alone, बलवत्ततम् equal in might, पितरम् father's, अनुजातः like father, असि are.

Meaning

"You are equal to Prahlada, Bali, Indra, Kubera and Varuna in might. You alone have taken over like your father."

YK-76-73-74Yuddha Kanda 76.73–74 (युग्मम्)

त्वामेवैकंमहाबाहुंचापहस्तमरिन्दमम् ।।6.76.73।। त्रिदशानातिवर्तन्तेजितेन्द्रियमिवाधयः । विक्रमस्वमहाबुद्धे कर्माणिममपश्यतः ।।6.76.74।।

tvāmevaikṃmahābāhuṃcāpahastamarindamam ||6.76.73|| tridaśānātivartantejitendriyamivādhayḥ | vikramasvamahābuddhe karmāṇimamapaśyatḥ ||6.76.74||

Translation

महाबाहुम् mighty armed, शूलहस्तम् wielding pike in hand, अरिन्दमम् tamer of enemies, त्वाम् you, एकमेव you alone, त्रिदशाः gods, जितेन्द्रियम् one who has overcome senses, आधयः pre eminent, नातिवर्तन्ते not able to overcome, महाबुद्धे highly intelligent, विक्रमस्व prowess, मम me, कर्माणि deeds, तः those, पश्यत: exhibit.

Meaning

"Oh! mightyarmed, Kumbha! wielding pike in hand, you are a tamer of enemies, you alone are the one that gods are not able to overcome, a pre eminent one who has gained over senses, highly intelligent, exhibiting your prowess and deeds before me."

YK-76-75Yuddha Kanda 76.75

वरदानापतितृव्यस्तेसहतेदेवदानवान् । कुम्भकर्णस्तुवीर्येणसहते च सुरासुरान् ।।6.76.75।।

varadānāpatitṛvyastesahatedevadānavān | kumbhakarṇastuvīryeṇasahate ca surāsurān ||6.76.75||

Translation

ते your, पितृव्यः uncle, वरदानात् by the boons, देवदानवान् Devas and Danavas, सहते with stand, कुम्भकर्णस्तु Kumbhakarna also, वीर्येण courage, सुरासुरान् gods and demons, सहते with stand.

Meaning

"Your uncle Ravana is able to withstand the Devas and Danavas by virtue of the boons and Kumbhakarna was able to with stand gods and demons by virtue of his courage."

YK-76-76Yuddha Kanda 76.76

ततःकुम्भस्तुसुग्रीवंबाहुभ्यांजगृहेतदा । गजाविवाहितमदौनिश्श्वसन्तौमुहुर्मुहु 76.81।। अन्योन्यगात्रग्रथितौकर्षन्तावितरेतरम् । सधूमांमुखतोज्वालांविसृजन्तौपरिश्रमात् ।।6.76.82।।

tatḥkumbhastusugrīvṃbāhubhyāṃjagṛhetadā | gajāvivāhitamadauniśśvasantaumuhurmuhu 76.81|| anyonyagātragrathitaukarṣantāvitaretaram | sadhūmāṃmukhatojvālāṃvisṛjantaupariśramāt ||6.76.82||

Translation

ततः thereafter, कुम्भः Kumbha, बाहुभ्याम् shoulders, सुग्रीवम् Sugriva's, जगृहे held, तदा then, अहतमदौ intoxicated, गजाविव like elephants, मुहुर्मुहुः again and again, निश्श्वसन्तौ breathing heavily, अन्योन्यगात्रग्रथितौ holding one another's limbs, इतरेतरम् one another, कर्षन्तौ rubbing each other, परिश्रमात् in exertion, मुखतः from face, सधूमाम् smoke, ज्वालाम् flames, विस्पजन्तौ let out.

Meaning

Thereafter Kumbha held Sugriva's shoulders. They were like two intoxicated elephants holding one another's limbs and rubbing each other and breathing heavily. In exertion they let out from their face fire mixed with smoke.

YK-76-77Yuddha Kanda 76.77

महाविमर्दंसमरेमयासहतवाद्भुतम् । अद्यभूतानिपश्यन्तुशक्रशम्बरयोरिव ।।6.76.77।।

mahāvimardṃsamaremayāsahatavādbhutam | adyabhūtānipaśyantuśakraśambarayoriva ||6.76.77||

Translation

अद्य now, समरे in combat, मयासह with me, तव your, अद्भुतम् wonderful, महाविमर्दम् mighty encounter, शक्रम्बरयोरिव Indra and Sambara like, भूतानि beings, पश्यन्तु witness.

Meaning

"Just as the wonderful conflict between Indra and Sambara let the beings witness the mighty comb at between me and you."

YK-76-78Yuddha Kanda 76.78

कृतमप्रतिमंकर्मदर्शितंचास्त्रकौशलम् । पातिताहरिवीराश्चत्वयावैभीमविक्रमाः ।।6.76.78।।

kṛtamapratimṃkarmadarśitṃcāstrakauśalam | pātitāharivīrāścatvayāvaibhīmavikramāḥ ||6.76.78||

Translation

त्वया your, अप्रतिमम् unequal, कर्म deed, कृतम् done, अस्त्रकौशलं च efficiency in the use of weapons, दर्शितम् exhibited, भीमविक्रमाः of terrific valour, एते of those, हरिवीराश्च monkey heroes, पातिताः made to fall.

Meaning

"By an unequal deed done by you in the efficiency in the use of weapons has been exhibited. The monkey heroes of terrific valour have been made to fall."

YK-76-79Yuddha Kanda 76.79

उपालम्भभयाच्चापिनासिवीरमयाहतः । कृतकर्मपरिश्रान्तोविश्रान्तःपश्यमेबलम् ।।6.76.79।।

upālambhabhayāccāpināsivīramayāhatḥ | kṛtakarmapariśrāntoviśrāntḥpaśyamebalam ||6.76.79||

Translation

वीर stalwart, कृतकर्मपरिश्रान्तः exhausted by your deeds and resting, मया by me, उपालम्भभयात् fear of reproaching, हतः finished, नअसि are not, विश्रान्तः having rested, मे my, बलम् strength, पश्य witness.

Meaning

"O Stalwart! You have not been finished by me for the fear of reproaching. You are exhausted by your deeds and resting. Having rested, witness my strength now."

YK-76-80-82Yuddha Kanda 76.80–82 (त्रिकम्)

तेनसुग्रीववाक्येनसावमानेनमानितः । अग्नेराज्याहुतस्येवतेजस्तस्याभ्यवर्धत ।।6.76.80।।

tenasugrīvavākyenasāvamānenamānitḥ | agnerājyāhutasyevatejastasyābhyavardhata ||6.76.80||

Translation

सावमानेन slighted, तेन by the, सुग्रीवाक्येन Sugriva's words, मानितः flattered, राज्याहुतस्य royalty captivated, अग्नेःइव like fire, तस्य his, तेजः fire of energy, अभ्यवर्धत increased.

Meaning

Sugriva's words of flattering royalty captivated Kumbha's fire of energy, which doubled like fire fed with ghee.

YK-76-83Yuddha Kanda 76.83

तयोःपादाभिघाताच्चनिमग्नाचाभवन्महि । व्याघूर्णिततरङ्गश्चचुक्षुभेवरुणालयः ।।6.76.83।।

tayoḥpādābhighātāccanimagnācābhavanmahi | vyāghūrṇitataraṅgaścacukṣubhevaruṇālayḥ ||6.76.83||

Translation

तयोः those two, पादाभिघातात् by the trampling of their feet, मही earth, निमग्ना sank, अभवत् down, वरुणालयः abode of Varuna (ocean), व्याघूर्णिततरङ्गः rolling waves became, चुक्षुभे agitated.

Meaning

Then by the trampling of their feet the earth sank down, the abode of Varuna (ocean) was agitated with rolling waves.

YK-76-84Yuddha Kanda 76.84

ततःकुम्भंसमुत्क्षिप्यसुग्रीवोलवणाम्भसि । पातयामासवेगेनदर्शयन्नुदधेस्तलम् ।।6.76.84।।

tatḥkumbhṃsamutkṣipyasugrīvolavaṇāmbhasi | pātayāmāsavegenadarśayannudadhestalam ||6.76.84||

Translation

ततः then, सुग्रीवः Sugriva, कुम्भम् Kumbha, समुत्क्षिप्य threw into ocean, उदधेः lifted, तलम् bottom, दर्शयन् to show, वेगेन quickly, लवणाम्भसि into the ocean, पातयामास threw him.

Meaning

Then Sugriva lifted Kumbha and threw him into the ocean quickly, to show him the bottom.

YK-76-85Yuddha Kanda 76.85

ततःकुम्भनिपातेनजलराशिस्समुत्थितः । व्निध्यमन्दरसङ्काशोविससर्पसमन्ततः ।।6.76.85।।

tatḥkumbhanipātenajalarāśissamutthitḥ | vnidhyamandarasaṅkāśovisasarpasamantatḥ ||6.76.85||

Translation

ततः then, कुम्भनिपातेन by the fallen Kumbha, समुत्थितः from the ocean, जलराशिः ocean, व्निध्यमन्दरसङ्काशः form of Vindhya and Mandara, समन्ततः all over, विससर्प flowed.

Meaning

By Kumbha falling into the ocean, it got swollen to the form of Vindhya and Mandara mountain and water flowed all over.

YK-76-86Yuddha Kanda 76.86

ततःकुम्भस्समुत्पत्यसुग्रीवमभिपद्य च । आजघानोरसिक्रुद्धोवज्रवेगेनमुष्टिना ।।6.76.86।।

tatḥkumbhassamutpatyasugrīvamabhipadya ca | ājaghānorasikruddhovajravegenamuṣṭinā ||6.76.86||

Translation

ततः then, कुम्भः Kumbha, समुत्पत्य rising up, सुग्रीवम् Sugriva, अभिपद्य च hit him, क्रुद्धः in anger, वज्रवेगेन at thunderbolt speed, मुष्टिना with fist, उरसि on the chest, आजघान struck.

Meaning

Then Kumbha hit Sugriva in anger with his fist at the speed of a thunderbolt on his chest.

YK-76-87Yuddha Kanda 76.87

तस्यचचर्मच पुस्फोटबहुसुस्रावशोणितम् । स च मुष्टिर्महावेगःप्रतिजघ्नेऽस्थिमण्डले ।।6.76.87।।

tasyacacarmaca pusphoṭabahususrāvaśoṇitam | sa ca muṣṭirmahāvegḥpratijaghne'sthimaṇḍale ||6.76.87||

Translation

तस्य his, चर्म च armour, पुस्फोट slit open, शोणितं blood, बहुसुस्राव flowed excessively, महावेगः at high speed, सःमुष्टिः his fist, अस्थिमण्डले skeletal framework, प्रतिजघ्ने in return struck.

Meaning

The armour of Sugriva slit open, and blood flowed at high speed and excessively. The first hit of Kumbha hit the skeletal framework of Sugriva in return.

YK-76-88Yuddha Kanda 76.88

त्दावेगेनतत्रासीत्तेजःप्रज्वलितंमहत् । वज्रनिष्पेषसञ्जाताज्वालामेरोर्यथागिरेः ।।6.76.88।।

tdāvegenatatrāsīttejḥprajvalitṃmahat | vajraniṣpeṣasañjātājvālāmeroryathāgireḥ ||6.76.88||

Translation

तदा then, तत्र there, वेगेन speedily, महत् great, तेजः flame, मेरोःगिरेः Meru mountain, वज्रनिष्पेषसञ्जाता force of the fist like thunderbolt, ज्वालायथा like flame, प्रज्वलितम् burst forth.

Meaning

Then by the speed of the hit on Sugriva's chest by Kumbha's fist a flame burst forth like the flame of Meru Mountain.

YK-76-89Yuddha Kanda 76.89

स तत्राभिहतस्तेनसुग्रीवोवानरर्षभः । मुष्टिंसम्वर्तयामासवज्रकल्पंमहाबलः ।।6.76.89।।

sa tatrābhihatastenasugrīvovānararṣabhḥ | muṣṭiṃsamvartayāmāsavajrakalpṃmahābalḥ ||6.76.89||

Translation

तत्र there, तेन by that, अभिहतः hit, महाबलः mighty, वानरर्षभः bull of Vanaras, सः he, सुग्रीवः Sugriva, वज्रकल्पम् adamant, मुष्टिम् fist, सम्वर्तयामास clenched.

Meaning

Then mighty Sugriva, the bull among Vanaras, hit by the fist, clenched his fist adamantly.

YK-76-90Yuddha Kanda 76.90

अर्चिस्सहस्रविकचरविमण्डलसप्रभम् । स मुष्टिंपातयामासकुम्भस्योरसिवीर्यवान् ।।6.76.90।।

arcissahasravikacaravimaṇḍalasaprabham | sa muṣṭiṃpātayāmāsakumbhasyorasivīryavān ||6.76.90||

Translation

वीर्यवान् champion, सः he, अर्चिः Sun, चरविमण्डलसप्रभम् shone like disc encircled, मुष्टिम् fist, कुम्भस्य Kumbha's, उरसि chest, पातयामास pressed.

Meaning

Sugriva, the champion pressed his first which shone like the Sun encircled with rays on the chest of Kumbha.

YK-76-91Yuddha Kanda 76.91

स तुतेनप्रहारेणविह्वलोभृशताडितः । निपपाततदाकुम्भोगतार्चिरिवपावकः ।।6.76.91।।

sa tutenaprahāreṇavihvalobhṛśatāḍitḥ | nipapātatadākumbhogatārcirivapāvakḥ ||6.76.91||

Translation

सःकुम्भः that Kumbha, तेन by that, प्रहारेण blow, भृशताडितः pained severely, विह्वलः overcome with fear, तदा then, गतार्चिः glow gone, पावकःइव like fire, निपपात fell.

Meaning

By the blow of Sugriva, that Kumbha was pained severely and overcome by fear he fell like fire which has lost its glow.

मुष्टिनाभिहतस्तेननिपपाताशुराक्षसः । लोहिताङ्गइवाकाशाददीप्तरमशिर्यदृच्छया ।।6.76.92।।

muṣṭinābhihatastenanipapātāśurākṣasḥ | lohitāṅgaivākāśādadīptaramaśiryadṛcchayā ||6.76.92||

Translation

तेन by that, मुष्टिना fist, अभिहतः struck, राक्षसः Rakshasa, दीप्तरमशिः glowing planet, लोहिताङ्गः endowed with brightness, यदृच्छया accidentally, आकाशादिव from the sky, आशु has, निपपात fallen.

Meaning

Struck by the fist of Sugriva, the Rakshasa fell just as the glowing planet endowed with brightness accidentally fell from the sky.

कुम्भस्यपततोरूपंभग्नस्योरसिमुष्टीना । बभौरुद्राभिपन्नस्ययथारूपंगवांपतेः ।।6.76.93।।

kumbhasyapatatorūpṃbhagnasyorasimuṣṭīnā | babhaurudrābhipannasyayathārūpṃgavāṃpateḥ ||6.76.93||

Translation
