YK-70-1Yuddha Kanda 70.1

नरान्तकंहतंदृष्टवाचुक्रुशुर्नैरृतर्षभाः । देवान्तकस्त्रिमूर्धा च पौलस्त्यश्चमहोदरः ।।6.70.1।।

narāntakṃhatṃdṛṣṭavācukruśurnairṛtarṣabhāḥ | devāntakastrimūrdhā ca paulastyaścamahodarḥ ||6.70.1||

Translation

नरान्तकम् Naranthaka, हतम् killed, दृष्टवा seeing, नैरृतर्षभाः bull among Rakshasas, देवान्तकः Devanthaka, त्रिमूर्धा च Trisira, पौलस्त्यः of Paulastya, महोदरः च and Mahodara, चुक्रुशुः cried aloud.

Meaning

Seeing the bulls among Rakshasas Naranthaka, Devanthaka, Trisira and Mahodara a scion of Paulastya and Mahodara, killed the Rakshasas cried aloud.

YK-70-2Yuddha Kanda 70.2

आरूढोमेघसङ्काशंवारणेन्द्रंमहोदरः । वालिपुत्रंमहावीर्यमभिदुद्राववीर्यवान् ।।6.70.2।।

ārūḍhomeghasaṅkāśṃvāraṇendrṃmahodarḥ | vāliputrṃmahāvīryamabhidudrāvavīryavān ||6.70.2||

Translation

महोदरः Mahodara, मेघसङ्काशम् resembling cloud, वारणेन्द्रम् best of elephants, आरूढः mounted, वीर्यवान् courageous, महावीर्यम् brave, वालिपुत्रम् Vali's son, अभिदुद्राव chased.

Meaning

Mahodara who closely resembled a cloud, mounted on the best of elephants chased brave and courageous son of Vali.

YK-70-3Yuddha Kanda 70.3

भ्रारातृव्यसनसन्तप्तस्तदादेवान्तकोबली । आदायपरिघंदीप्तमङ्गदंसमभिद्रवत् ।।6.70.3।।

bhrārātṛvyasanasantaptastadādevāntakobalī | ādāyaparighṃdīptamaṅgadṃsamabhidravat ||6.70.3||

Translation

तदा then, भ्रातृव्यसनसन्तप्तः immersed in the grief of brother, बली powerful, देवान्तकः Devanthaka, दीप्तम् glowing, परिघम् iron bar, आदाय taking hold of, अङ्गदम् at Angada, समभिद्रवत् rushed forward.

Meaning

Then, powerful Devanthaka who was immersed in grief of his brother, taking hold of a glowing iron bar rushed forward towards Angada.

YK-70-4Yuddha Kanda 70.4

रथमादित्यसङ्काशंयुक्तंपरमवाजिभिः । आस्थायत्रिशिरावीरोवालिपुत्रमथाभ्ययात् ।।6.70.4।।

rathamādityasaṅkāśṃyuktṃparamavājibhiḥ | āsthāyatriśirāvīrovāliputramathābhyayāt ||6.70.4||

Translation

अथ and then, वीरः hero, त्रिशिराः Trisira, वाजिभिः best horse, युक्तम् yoked, आदित्यसङ्काशम् effulgent as the Sun, रथम् chariot, आस्थाय taking seat, वालिपुत्रम् Vali's son, अभ्ययात् marched.

Meaning

Then Trisira, seated on the chariot, effulgent as the Sun, yoked to the best horse marched towards Angada.

YK-70-5Yuddha Kanda 70.5

स त्रिभिर्देवदर्पघ्नेर्नेरृतीन्द्रेरभिद्रुतः । वृक्षमुत्पाटयामासमहाविटपमङ्गदः ।।6.70.5।।

sa tribhirdevadarpaghnernerṛtīndrerabhidrutḥ | vṛkṣamutpāṭayāmāsamahāviṭapamaṅgadḥ ||6.70.5||

Translation

देवदर्पघ्नेः capable of crushing the pride of gods, त्रिभिः all the three, नैरृतेन्द्रः chiefs of Rakshasas अभिद्रुतः marching towards, सः he, अङ्गदः Angada, महाविटपम् huge, वृक्षम् tree, उत्पाटयामास uprooted.

Meaning

Angada observed that all the three chiefs of Rakshasas, who were capable of crushing the pride of gods marching towards him and uprooted a huge tree.

YK-70-6Yuddha Kanda 70.6

देवान्तकायतंवीरच्शिक्षेपसहसाङ्गदः । महावृक्षंमहाशाखंशक्रोदीप्तमिवाशनिम् ।।6.70.6।।

devāntakāyatṃvīracśikṣepasahasāṅgadḥ | mahāvṛkṣṃmahāśākhṃśakrodīptamivāśanim ||6.70.6||

Translation

वीरः hero, अङ्गदः Angada, महाशाखम् huge branches, तम् those, महावृक्षम् huge tree, शक्रः branches, दीप्तम् flaming, अशनम् इव flaming thunderbolt, सहसा with force, देवान्तकाय Devanthaka, चिक्षेप hurled.

Meaning

Just as Indra took a flaming thunderbolt, Angada, the hero took hold of huge branches of trees and hurled at Devanthaka with force.

YK-70-7Yuddha Kanda 70.7

त्रिशिरास्तंप्रचिच्छेदशरैराशीविषोपमैः । स वृक्षंकृत्तमालोक्यउत्पपाततदाङ्गदः ।।6.70.7।।

triśirāstṃpracicchedaśarairāśīviṣopamaiḥ | sa vṛkṣṃkṛttamālokyautpapātatadāṅgadḥ ||6.70.7||

Translation

त्रिशिराः Trisira, आशीविषोपमैः venomous serpents, शरैः arrows, तम् them, प्रचिच्छेद split, तदा then, कृत्तम् action, वृक्षम् trees, आलोक्य observing, सःअङ्गदः that Angada, उत्पपात flew up.

Meaning

Trisira split the trees with the arrows which were like venomous serpents. Observing Angada's action he flew up.

YK-70-8Yuddha Kanda 70.8

स ववर्षततोवृक्षान् शैलाश्चकपिकुञ्जरः । तान् प्रचिच्छेदसङ्कृद्धस्त्रिशिरानिशितैश्शरैः ।।6.70.8।।

sa vavarṣatatovṛkṣān śailāścakapikuñjarḥ | tān pracicchedasaṅkṛddhastriśirāniśitaiśśaraiḥ ||6.70.8||

Translation

ततः then, सः he, कपिकुञ्जरः leader of monkeys, वृक्षान् trees, शैलाश्च rocks also, ववर्षसङ्कृद्धः rained in anger, त्रिशिराः Trisira, निशितैः sharp, शरैः arrows, तान् himself, प्रचिच्छेद split.

Meaning

Then the leader of the monkeys, rained trees and rocks. Angry Trisira attacked all of them with sharp arrows.

YK-70-9Yuddha Kanda 70.9

परिघाग्रेणतान् वृक्षान्बभञ्ज च महोदरः । त्रिशिराश्चाङ्गदंवीरमभिदुद्रावसायकैः ।।6.70.9।।

parighāgreṇatān vṛkṣānbabhañja ca mahodarḥ | triśirāścāṅgadṃvīramabhidudrāvasāyakaiḥ ||6.70.9||

Translation

महोदरः Mahodara, परिघाग्रेण with the iron clubs, तान् them, वृक्षान् trees, बभञ्ज shattered, त्रिशिराः Trisira, सायकैः arrows, वीरम् brave, अङ्गदम् Angada, अभिदुद्राव attacked.

Meaning

Mahodara shattered those trees with the iron clubs. Trisira attacked brave Angada with arrows.

YK-70-10Yuddha Kanda 70.10

गजेनसमभिद्रुत्यवालिपुत्रंमहोदरः । जघानोरसिसङ्कृद्धस्तोमरैर्वज्रसन्निभैः ।।6.70.10।।

gajenasamabhidrutyavāliputrṃmahodarḥ | jaghānorasisaṅkṛddhastomarairvajrasannibhaiḥ ||6.70.10||

Translation

महोदरः Mahodara, गजेन with elephant, वालिपुत्रम् Vali's son, समभिद्रुत्य chased towards, सङ्कृद्धः in anger, वज्रसन्निभैः which were like lightning, तोमरैः iron clubs, उरसि chest, जघान attacked.

Meaning

Mahodara chased the elephant on to Angada in anger and attacked him on his chest with his iron clubs.

YK-70-11Yuddha Kanda 70.11

देवान्तकश्चसङ्कृद्धःपरिघेणतदाङ्गदम् । उपगम्याभिहत्याशुव्यपचक्रामवेगवान् ।।6.70.11।।

devāntakaścasaṅkṛddhḥparigheṇatadāṅgadam | upagamyābhihatyāśuvyapacakrāmavegavān ||6.70.11||

Translation

तदा then, वेगवान् quickly, देवान्तकः च Devanthaka also, सङ्कृद्धः very furious, अङ्गदम् Angada, उपगम्य came over, आशु directly, परिघेण by the iron club, अभिहत्य attacked, व्यपचक्राम retreated.

Meaning

Then infuriated Devanthaka quickly came over Angada directly and attacked him with his iron club and retreated.

YK-70-12Yuddha Kanda 70.12

सत्रिभिर्नैरृतश्रेष्ठैर्युगतपत्समभिद्रुतः । न विव्यथेमहातेजावालिपुत्रःप्रतापवान् ।।6.70.12।।

satribhirnairṛtaśreṣṭhairyugatapatsamabhidrutḥ | na vivyathemahātejāvāliputrḥpratāpavān ||6.70.12||

Translation

त्रिभिः three, नैरृतश्रेष्ठैः foremost of Rakshasas, युगपत् together, अभिद्रुतः attacked, महातेजाः highly energetic, प्रतापवान् eminent, सः he, वालिपुत्रः Vali's son, न विव्यथे not feel perturbed.

Meaning

Eminent and highly energetic son of Vali did not feel perturbed when three of the foremost Rakshasas attacked him together.

YK-70-13Yuddha Kanda 70.13

स वेगवान्महावेगंकृत्वापरमदुर्जयः । तलेनभृशमुत्पत्यजघानास्यमहागजम् ।।6.70.13।।

sa vegavānmahāvegṃkṛtvāparamadurjayḥ | talenabhṛśamutpatyajaghānāsyamahāgajam ||6.70.13||

Translation

वेगवान् endowed with high speed दुर्जयः very difficult to encounter, सः he, महावेगम् quickly, कृत्वा done, भृशमुत्पत्य jumping up, अस्य their, महागजम् huge elephant, तलेन by the head, जघान attacked.

Meaning

Angada, who was endowed with high speed, and exceedingly difficult to encounter, jumped up the huge elephant of Mahodara attacked him.

YK-70-14Yuddha Kanda 70.14

तस्यतेनप्रहारेणनागराजस्यसंयुगे । पेततुर्लोचनेतस्यविननाद स वारणः ।।6.70.14।।

tasyatenaprahāreṇanāgarājasyasṃyuge | petaturlocanetasyavinanāda sa vāraṇḥ ||6.70.14||

Translation

तस्य its, तेन by that, प्रहारेण blow, संयुगे in battle, तस्यनागराजस्य that royal elephant, नयने eyes, रोचये dropped, सः the, वारणः elephant, विननाद cried.

Meaning

By that blow of Angada, that king of elephant's eyes dropped, and it cried.

YK-70-15Yuddha Kanda 70.15

विषाणंचास्यसःनिष्कृष्यवालिपुत्रोमहाबलः । देवान्तकमभिप्लुत्यताडयामाससंयुगे ।।6.70.15।।

viṣāṇṃcāsyasḥniṣkṛṣyavāliputromahābalḥ | devāntakamabhiplutyatāḍayāmāsasṃyuge ||6.70.15||

Translation

महाबलः mighty, वालिपुत्रः Vali's son, संयुगे in battle, अस्य his, विषाणम् tusk, निष्कृष्य removed, देवान्तकम् Devanthaka, अभिद्रुत्य jumping over, ताडयामास hit him.

Meaning

Mighty son of Vali removed the tusk of the elephant and hit Devanthaka with it by jumping over him in the battlefield.

YK-70-16Yuddha Kanda 70.16

स विह्वलस्तुतेजस्वीवातोद्धूतइवद्रुमः । लक्षारससवर्णं च सुस्रावरुधिरंमहत् ।।6.70.16।।

sa vihvalastutejasvīvātoddhūtaivadrumḥ | lakṣārasasavarṇṃ ca susrāvarudhirṃmahat ||6.70.16||

Translation

तेजस्वी astonishing, सः he, वातोद्धूतः thrown by the wind, द्रुमःइव like a tree, विह्वलः shaken, लाक्षारससवर्णम् colour of lacquer, महत् huge amount, रुधिरम् blood, सुस्राव shed.

Meaning

That astonishing Rakshasa shaken like a tree, thrown by the wind, shed huge amounts of blood which was of the colour of lacquer.

YK-70-17Yuddha Kanda 70.17

अथाश्वस्यमहातेजाःकृच्छ्राद्देवान्तकोबली । आविध्यपरिघंवेगादाजघानतदाङ्गदम् ।।6.70.17।।

athāśvasyamahātejāḥkṛcchrāddevāntakobalī | āvidhyaparighṃvegādājaghānatadāṅgadam ||6.70.17||

Translation

अथ and then, बली strong, महातेजाः terrible, देवान्तकः Devanthaka, कृच्छ्रात् iron spike, आश्वस्य on the horse, तदा then, वेगात् quickly, परिघम् iron club, आविध्य taking hold, अङ्गदम् Angada, आजघान pierced.

Meaning

Thereafter the terribly strong Devanthaka taking iron spike quickly pierced Angada.

YK-70-18Yuddha Kanda 70.18

परिघाभिहतश्चापिवानरेन्द्रात्मजस्तदा । जानुभ्यांपतितोबूमौपुनरेवोत्पपात ह ।।6.70.18।।

parighābhihataścāpivānarendrātmajastadā | jānubhyāṃpatitobūmaupunarevotpapāta ha ||6.70.18||

Translation

तदा then, परिघाभिहतः hurt by iron bar, वानरेन्द्रात्मजः son of Vanara king, भूमौ ground, जानुभ्याम् on the knees, पतितः fallen, पुनरेव once again, उत्पपात ह got up.

Meaning

Then, hurt by the club the son of Vanara king fell down on his knees once again and got up.

YK-70-19Yuddha Kanda 70.19

तमुत्पतन्तंत्रिशिरास्त्रिभिर्बाणैरजिह्मगैः । घोरैर्हरिपतेःपुत्रेंललाटेऽभिजघान ह ।।6.70.19।।

tamutpatantṃtriśirāstribhirbāṇairajihmagaiḥ | ghorairharipateḥputreṃlalāṭe'bhijaghāna ha ||6.70.19||

Translation

त्रिशिराः Trisira, उत्पतन्तम् who got up, पुत्रम् son, तम् him, घोरैः terrible, अजह्मगैः straight going three, बाणैः arrows, ललाटे on forehead, अभिजघान ह again hit.

Meaning

While Angada was getting up, Trisira again hit him on the forehead with three straight going arrows.

YK-70-20Yuddha Kanda 70.20

ततोऽङ्गदंपरिक्षिप्तंत्रिभिर्नैरृतपुङ्गवैः । हनूमानपिविज्ञायनीलश्चापिप्रतस्थतुः ।।6.70.20।।

tato'ṅgadṃparikṣiptṃtribhirnairṛtapuṅgavaiḥ | hanūmānapivijñāyanīlaścāpipratasthatuḥ ||6.70.20||

Translation

ततः then, हनूमान् Hanuman, नीलश्चापि as well as Neela, त्रिभिः three, नैरृतपुङ्गवैः Rakshasa leaders, अङ्गदम् Angada, परिक्षिप्तम् surrounding, विज्ञाय knowing, अथ again, प्रतस्थतुः set out.

Meaning

Then finding Angada surrounded by the three Rakshasa leaders, Hanuman as well as Neela set out.

YK-70-21Yuddha Kanda 70.21

तश्चिक्षेपशैलाग्रंनीलस्त्रिशिरसेतदा । तद्रावणसुतोधीमाबनिभेदनिशितैश्शरैः ।।6.70.21।।

taścikṣepaśailāgrṃnīlastriśirasetadā | tadrāvaṇasutodhīmābanibhedaniśitaiśśaraiḥ ||6.70.21||

Translation

ततः there upon, नीलः Neela, तदा then, त्रिशिरसे on Trisira, शैलाग्रम् peak of mountain, चिक्षेप broken to pieces, धीमान् wise, रावणसुतः Ravana's son, निशितैः sharp, शरैः arrows, तत् then, बिभेद broke to pieces.

Meaning

Thereafter Neela hit Trisira with the peak of the mountain and Ravana's son broke the mountain into pieces with arrows.

YK-70-22Yuddha Kanda 70.22

तद्बाणशतनिर्भिन्नंविदारितशिलातलम् । सविस्फुलिंगंसज्वालंनिपपातगिरेशशिरः ।।6.70.22।।

tadbāṇaśatanirbhinnṃvidāritaśilātalam | savisphuliṃgṃsajvālṃnipapātagireśaśirḥ ||6.70.22||

Translation

बाणशतनिर्भिन्नम् broken by hundreds of arrows, तत् thereafter, गिरेःशिरः mountain peak, विदारितशिलातलम् peak of the mountain broken, सविस्फुलिङ्गम् sparks, सज्वालम् flames, निपपात fell.

Meaning

Hit by hundreds of arrows, the mountain peak broke into pieces of stones like sparks and flames fell from it.

YK-70-23Yuddha Kanda 70.23

ततोजृम्भितमालोक्यहर्षाद्वेवान्तकस्तदा । परिघेणाभिदुद्रावमारुतात्मजमाहवे ।।6.70.23।।

tatojṛmbhitamālokyaharṣādvevāntakastadā | parigheṇābhidudrāvamārutātmajamāhave ||6.70.23||

Translation

बली mighty, सः he, देवान्तकः Devanthaka, आहवे in battle, हर्षात् happy, ततः then, जृम्भितम् , मारुतात्मजम् Hanuman, आलोक्य observing, परिघेण with his club, अभिदुद्राव assaulted.

Meaning

Mighty Devanthaka, observing (Trisira's action), was happy on the battlefield, and went with his club to assault Hanuman.

YK-70-24Yuddha Kanda 70.24

तमापतन्तमुत्प्लुत्यहनुमान्मारुतात्मजः । आजघानतदामूर्ध्निवज्रकल्पेनमुष्टिना ।।6.70.24।।

tamāpatantamutplutyahanumānmārutātmajḥ | ājaghānatadāmūrdhnivajrakalpenamuṣṭinā ||6.70.24||

Translation

तदा then, मारुतात्मजः son of wind god, हनुमान् Hanuman, उत्पत्य got up, आपतन्तम् , तम् , वज्रकल्पेन which was like a thunderbolt, मुष्टिना with fist, मूर्ध्नि forehead, आजघान hit.

Meaning

Then the son of wind god, Hanuman observing Devanthaka coming towards him, got up and hit him on the forehead with his thunderbolt like fist.

YK-70-25Yuddha Kanda 70.25

शिरसिप्रहरवनीरस्तदावायुसुतोबली । नादेनाकम्पयच्चैवराक्षसान् स महाकपिः ।।6.70.25।।

śirasipraharavanīrastadāvāyusutobalī | nādenākampayaccaivarākṣasān sa mahākapiḥ ||6.70.25||

Translation

तदा then, वीरः heroic, बली strong, वायुसुतः son of wind god, शिरसि on head, प्रहरत् blow, सः he, महाकपिः great monkey, नादेन sound, राक्षसान् Rakshasas, अकम्पयच्चैव trembled.

Meaning

When the heroic and strong son of the wind god hit on the head of Devanthaka, the Rakshasas trembled by the sound of the great monkey 's blow.

YK-70-26Yuddha Kanda 70.26

मुष्टिनिष्पिष्टविभिन्नमूर्धानिर्वान्तदन्ताक्षिविलम्बिजिव्वाः । देवान्तकोराक्षसराजसूनुर्गतासुरुत्व्यांसहसापपात ।।6.70.26।।

muṣṭiniṣpiṣṭavibhinnamūrdhānirvāntadantākṣivilambijivvāḥ | devāntakorākṣasarājasūnurgatāsurutvyāṃsahasāpapāta ||6.70.26||

Translation

मुष्टिनिष्पिष्टविभिन्नमूर्धा skull shattered by the blow, निर्वान्तदन्ताक्षिविलम्बिजिव्वाः teeth, eyes and tongue forced out, राक्षसराजसूनुः son of king of Rakshasas, सः he, देवान्तकः Devanthaka, गतासुः dead, सहसा instantly, उर्व्याम् on ground, पपात fell.

Meaning

Devanthaka's skull was shattered by the blow, and his teeth, eyes and tongue were forced out, the son of Rakshasa king fell dead on the ground.

YK-70-27Yuddha Kanda 70.27

तस्मिन्हतेराक्षसयोधमुख्येमहाबलेसंयतिदेवशत्रौ । क्रुद्धस्त्रिमूर्धानिशिताग्रमुग्रंववर्षनीलोरसिबाणवर्षम् ।।6.70.27।।

tasminhaterākṣasayodhamukhyemahābalesṃyatidevaśatrau | kruddhastrimūrdhāniśitāgramugrṃvavarṣanīlorasibāṇavarṣam ||6.70.27||

Translation

राक्षसयोधमुख्ये foremost of Rakshasa warriors, देवशत्रौ enemy of gods, महाबले endowed with great strength, तस्मिन् their, संयति in conflict, हते killed, क्रुद्धः angry, त्रिमूर्धा one with three heads, नीलोरसि over Neela, उग्रम् top, बाणवर्षम् rained arrows, ववर्ष rained.

Meaning

Devanthaka, the foremost of Rakshasa warriors, an enemy of gods, endowed with great strength, having been killed in the conflict, Trisira became angry and rained arrows on Neela's chest.

YK-70-28-29Yuddha Kanda 70.28–29 (युग्मम्)

महोदरस्तुसङ्कृद्धःकुञ्जरंपर्वतोपमम् । भूयस्समधिरुह्याशुमन्दरंरमशिमानिव ।।6.70.28।। ततोबाणमयंवर्षंनीलस्योरस्यपातयत् । गिरौवर्षंतडिच्चक्रचापवानिवतोयदः ।।6.70.29।।

mahodarastusaṅkṛddhḥkuñjarṃparvatopamam | bhūyassamadhiruhyāśumandarṃramaśimāniva ||6.70.28|| tatobāṇamayṃvarṣṃnīlasyorasyapātayat | girauvarṣṃtaḍiccakracāpavānivatoyadḥ ||6.70.29||

Translation

सः he, महोदरस्तु at Mahodara, सङ्कृद्धः enraged, रमशिमान् Sun god, मन्दरम् इव springing on Mandara, पर्वतोपमम् over the mountain, कुञ्जरम् elephant, भूयः becoming, समधिरुह्य mounted, आशु quickly, ततः then, नीलस्य Neela's, उपरि chest, तोयदः water, तडिच्चक्रचापवानि rainy cloud with lightning and rainbow, वर्षम् wetted, गिरौइव on the mountain like, बाणमयम् covered with arrows, वर्षम् rain, अपातयत् showered.

Meaning

Mahodara got enraged, mounted on an elephant just as the Sun went over Mandara mountain and went for war. Then Mahodara wielding bow rained arrows, just as rainy clouds with lightning and rainbows showers rain, on the mountain like chest of Neela.

YK-70-30Yuddha Kanda 70.30

ततश्शरौघेरभिवर्ष्यमाणोविभिन्नगात्रःकपिसैन्यपालः । नीलोबभूवाथविसृष्टगात्रोविष्टम्भितस्तेनमहाबलेन ।।6.70.30।।

tataśśaraugherabhivarṣyamāṇovibhinnagātrḥkapisainyapālḥ | nīlobabhūvāthavisṛṣṭagātroviṣṭambhitastenamahābalena ||6.70.30||

Translation

ततः then, शरौघैः wetted by arrows, अभिवृष्यमाणः fully all over, कपिसैन्यपालः monkey leader, नीलः Neela, विभिननगात्रः all limbs pierced, बभूव remained, अथ and then, विसृष्टगात्रः limbs sunken, महाबलेन endowed with extraordinary strength, तेन by that, विष्टम्भितः could not move.

Meaning

Neela's body wetted by arrows all over, the limbs pierced with arrows, the monkey leader remained powerless and could not move in spite of being extraordinarily strong.

YK-70-31Yuddha Kanda 70.31

ततस्तुनीलःप्रतिलभ्यसंज्ञांशैलंसमुत्पाट्यसवृक्षषंण्डम् । ततस्समुत्पत्यभृशोग्रवेशोमहादरंतेनजघानमूर्ध्नि ।।6.70.31।।

Translation

ततः thereafter, नीलःतु Neela also, प्रतिलभ्यसंज्ञाम् regaining senses, सवृक्षषंण्डम् filled with trees, शैलम् mountain, समुत्पाट्य uprooting, ततः then, भृशोग्रवेशः at high speed, समुत्पत्य reaching over, तेन by that, महोदरम् Mahodara, मूर्ध्नि forehead, जघान attacked.

Meaning

Thereafter Neela also regained his senses and uprooting a mountain filled with trees went over Mahodara at high speed and attacked him on the forehead.

YK-70-32Yuddha Kanda 70.32

तत: स्सशैलेद्रनिपातभग्नोमहोदरस्तेनमहाद्विपेन । विपोथितोभूमितलेगतासुःपपातवज्राभिहतोयथाद्रिः ।।6.70.32।।

tata: ssaśailedranipātabhagnomahodarastenamahādvipena | vipothitobhūmitalegatāsuḥpapātavajrābhihatoyathādriḥ ||6.70.32||

Translation

ततः then, शैलेद्रनिपातभग्नः smashed by the impact of the mountain, सःमहोदरः that Mahodara, तेन by that, महाद्विपेन along with elephant, विपोथितः fell, गतासुः released of life, वज्राभिहतः hit by lightning, अद्रिःयथा like a mountain, भूमितले on ground, पपात fell.

Meaning

Then smashed by the impact of the mountain, along with his elephant Mahodara's body fell to the ground. Released from life, he fell like a mountain struck with lightning.

YK-70-33Yuddha Kanda 70.33

पितृव्यंनिहतंदृष्टवात्रिशिराश्चापमाददे । हनूमन्तं च सङ्कृद्धोविव्याथनिशितैश्शरैः ।।6.70.33।।

pitṛvyṃnihatṃdṛṣṭavātriśirāścāpamādade | hanūmantṃ ca saṅkṛddhovivyāthaniśitaiśśaraiḥ ||6.70.33||

Translation

त्रिशिराः Trisira, पितृव्यम् uncle, निहतम् killed, दृष्टवा seeing, सङ्कृद्धः very angry, चापम् bow, आददे seized, हनूमन्तम् Hanuman, निशितैः sharp, शरैः arrow, विव्याथ pierced.

Meaning

Trisira got enraged seeing his uncle killed, seized his bow and with a sharp arrow pierced Hanuman.

YK-70-34Yuddha Kanda 70.34

स वायुसुनूःकुपितश्चिक्षेपशिखरंगिरेः । त्रिशिरास्तच्छरैस्तीक्ष्णैर्बिभेदबहुधाबली ।।6.70.34।।

sa vāyusunūḥkupitaścikṣepaśikharṃgireḥ | triśirāstaccharaistīkṣṇairbibhedabahudhābalī ||6.70.34||

Translation

सः he, वायुसूनुः son of wind god, कुपितः in anger, गिरेः mountain, शिखरम् top, चिक्षेप hurled, बली mighty, त्रिशिराः Trisira, तीक्ष्णैः sharp, शरैः arrow, बहूधा several pieces, बिभेद split into.

Meaning

The son of the wind god in anger hurled a top of the mountain on mighty Trisira, who split the mountain into several pieces with an arrow.

YK-70-35Yuddha Kanda 70.35

तद्व्यर्थंशिखरंदृष्टवाद्रुमवर्षंमहाकपिः । विससर्जरणेतस्मिन्रावणस्यसुतंप्रति ।।6.70.35।।

tadvyarthṃśikharṃdṛṣṭavādrumavarṣṃmahākapiḥ | visasarjaraṇetasminrāvaṇasyasutṃprati ||6.70.35||

Translation

तदा then, कपिः monkey, तत् that, शिखरम् top of mountain, व्यर्थम् ineffective, दृष्टवा seeing, तस्मिन् over him, रणे battle, रावणस्य Ravana's, सुतंप्रति over the son, द्रुमवर्षम् rain of trees, विससज्ज discharged.

Meaning

Then seeing that the top of the mountain hurled was ineffective in that battle over Ravana's son, Hanuman discharged rain of trees.

YK-70-36Yuddha Kanda 70.36

तमापतन्तमाकाशेद्रुमवर्षंप्रतापवान् । त्रिशिरानिशितैर्बाणैश्चिच्छेद च ननाद च ।।6.70.36।।

tamāpatantamākāśedrumavarṣṃpratāpavān | triśirāniśitairbāṇaiściccheda ca nanāda ca ||6.70.36||

Translation

प्रतापवान् stupendous, त्रिशिराः Trisira, आ पतन्तम् tore, तम् them, द्रुमवर्षम् rain of trees, निशितैः whetted, बाणैः rain, आकाशे the sky, चिच्छेद shattered, ननादच roared.

Meaning

Stupendous Trisira tore with his whetted arrows the rain of trees through the sky and roared.

YK-70-37Yuddha Kanda 70.37

हनूमानुतोप्लुत्यहयंस्त्रीशिरसस्तदा । विददारनखैःक्रुद्धोनागेन्द्रंमृगराडिव ।।6.70.37।।

hanūmānutoplutyahayṃstrīśirasastadā | vidadāranakhaiḥkruddhonāgendrṃmṛgarāḍiva ||6.70.37||

Translation

तदा then, हनुमान् तु Hanuman also, क्रुद्धः angry, उत्प्लुत्य jumping up, त्रिशिरसः at Trisira, हयम् horse, मृगराट् lion, नागेन्द्रम् इव like lordly elephant, नखैः nails, विददार tore.

Meaning

Then Hanuman also jumped up in anger and tore the horse off Trisira just as the lion would tear the lordly elephant with nails.

YK-70-38Yuddha Kanda 70.38

अथशक्तिंसमादायकाळरात्रिमिवान्तकः । चिक्षेपानिलपुत्रायत्रिशिरारावणात्मजः ।।6.70.38।।

athaśaktiṃsamādāyakāळrātrimivāntakḥ | cikṣepānilaputrāyatriśirārāvaṇātmajḥ ||6.70.38||

Translation

तथ in the same way, रावणात्मजः Ravana's son, त्रिशिराः Trisira, अन्तकः Death, काळरात्रिम् इव like Kalaratri (Kaala, the deity presiding over the night of dissolution) शक्तिम् javelin, समादाय seizing, अनिलपुत्राय at the son of wind god, चिक्षेप shattered.

Meaning

In the same manner, Trisira, the son of Ravana sprung up and seized a javelin, just as God of death in dark night and hurled at the son of wind god and shattered.

YK-70-39Yuddha Kanda 70.39

दिवःक्षिप्तामिवोल्कांतांशक्तिंक्षिप्तामसङ्गताम् । गृहीत्वाहरिशार्दूलोबभञ्ज च ननाद च ।।6.70.39।।

divḥkṣiptāmivolkāṃtāṃśaktiṃkṣiptāmasaṅgatām | gṛhītvāhariśārdūlobabhañja ca nanāda ca ||6.70.39||

Translation

हरिश्रेष्ठः best of the monkeys, दिवः heaven, क्षिप्ताम् flung, उल्कामिव like a meteor, तांशक्तिम् that javelin, असङ्गताम् obstructed, गृहीत्वा taking, बभञ्ज च snapped, ननाद च and roared.

Meaning

Hanuman, the best of monkeys, snapped the javelin flung by Trisira on him, which came down unobstructed like a meteor from heaven and the monkeys roared.

YK-70-40Yuddha Kanda 70.40

तांदृष्टवाघोरसङ्काशांशक्तिंभग्नांहनूमता । प्रहृष्टावानरगणाविनेदुर्जलदाइव ।।6.70.40।।

tāṃdṛṣṭavāghorasaṅkāśāṃśaktiṃbhagnāṃhanūmatā | prahṛṣṭāvānaragaṇāvinedurjaladāiva ||6.70.40||

Translation

घोरसङ्काशाम् dreadful form, तांशक्तिम् of that javelin, हनूमता by Hanuman, भग्नाम् shattered, दृष्टवा seeing, प्रहृष्टाःवानरगणाः all Vanaras rejoiced, जलदाःइव like the rain clouds, विनेदुः thundered.

Meaning

Seeing the dreadful form of shattered javelin, all Vanaras rejoiced and thundered like rain clouds.

तःखडगंसमुद्यम्यत्रिशिराराक्षसोत्तमः । निजघानतदाव्यूढेवायुपुत्रस्यवक्षसि ।।6.70.41।।

Translation

राक्षसोत्तमः foremost of Rakshasas, त्रिशिराः Trisira, ततः that, व्यूढं placed, समुद्यम्य lifting up, तदा then, खडगम् sword, वायुपुत्रस्य into son of wind god, वक्षसि chest of, निजघा dug into.

Meaning

Trisira, the foremost of Rakshasas then lifted his sword, placed it on the chest of Hanuman and dug into it.

Translation

रिसङ्काशः who resembled mountain, सः he, महाकपिः great Vanara, पततः falling down, तस्य his, तंखङ्गम् that sword, अच्छिद्य taking, सर्वनारृता all those surrounded, त्रासयन् creating terror, ननाद roared.

Meaning

Taking the sword from Trisira, as he was falling, the great Vanara who resembled a mountain roared, creating terror in all, surrounded there.

अमृष्यमाणस्तंघोषमुत्पपातनिशाचरः । उत्पत्य च हनूमन्तंताडयामासमुष्टिना ।।6.70.45।।

Translation

निशाचरः Rakshasa, तंघोषम् that roar, अमृष्यमाणः unable to bear, उत्पपात got up, उत्पत्य jumping, हनूमन्तम् Hanuman, मुष्टिना fist, ताडयामास struck.

Meaning

Unable to bear that roar, that Rakshasa got up jumping and struck Hanuman with his fist.

तेनमुष्टिप्रहोरेणसञ्चुकोपमहाकपिः । कुपितश्चनिजग्राहकिरीटेराक्षसर्षभम् ।।6.70.46।।

Translation

महाकपिः great monkey, तेन by that, मुष्टिप्रहारेण by the hit with fist, सञ्चुकोप became furious, कुपितः च and angry, राक्षसर्षभम् bull among Rakshasas, किरीटे crown, निजग्राह got hold of.

The great monkey hit by the fist (of Trisira) became furious and in anger he got hold of Trisira's head with crown.

क्रुद्धः enraged, सः he, अनिलस्यसुतः wind god's son, तस्य his, कीरीटजुष्टानि along with crown, सकुण्डलानि and earrings, शीर्षाणि three heads (of Vishwarupa), शक्रः Indra, त्वष्टुः Twashsta's, सुतस्य son's, शिरांसिइव three heads like that, शितेन sharp, असिना cut off, प्रचिच्छेद severed.

Meaning

Enraged wind god's son, cut off the three heads of Trisira adorned with earrings just as Indra cut off the heads of Vishwarupa, son of Twashta.

तान्यायताक्षाण्यगसन्निभानिप्रदीप्तवैश्वानरलोचनानि । पेतुशिरांसीन्द्ररिपोःर्धरण्यांज्योतींषिमुक्तानियथार्कमार्गात् ।।6.70.48।।

Translation

आयताक्षाणि incongruous eyes, अगसन्निभानि resembling mountains, प्रदीप्तवैश्वानरलोचनानि glowing like Vyshvanara's eyes, इन्द्ररिपोः Indra's enemy, तानिशिरांसि those heads, अर्कमार्गात् from the path of the Sun, मुक्तानि like pearls, ज्योतींषियथा like stars, अरण्याम् wilderness, पेतुः fallen.

Meaning

The heads of Trisira, an enemy of Indra, resembling mountains with incongruous eyes glowing like Vyshvanara's eyes, fell into wilderness like stars fallen from the path of Sun.

Translation

देवरिपौ enemy of gods, तस्मिन् his, त्रिशीर्षे Trisira's, शक्रपराक्रमेण endowed with the prowess of Indra, हनूमता Hanuman, हते killed, प्लवंगाः monkeys, नेदुः roared, भूमिः earth, प्रचचाल shook, अथो and, रक्षांसि Rakshasas, समन्तात् in all sides, दुद्रुविरे took to their heels.

Meaning

Trisira, the enemy of gods, endowed with the prowess of Indra got killed by Hanuman. The earth shook, the monkeys roared and the Rakshasas from all sides took to their heels.

त्रिशिरसं Trisira, हतम् killed, दृष्टवा witnessing, अथापि च earlier, महोदरम् Mahodara, दुराधर्षौ difficult to encounter, देवान्तकनरान्तकौ Devanthaka and Naranthaka, हतौ killed, प्रेक्ष्य seeing, परमामर्षी roared in joy, राक्षसपुङ्गवः Rakshasa leaders, मत्तः Matta, चुकोप very angry.

Meaning

Witnessing Trisira killed, earlier Mahodara also, Devanthaka and Naranthaka who are difficult to encounter killed, monkeys roared in joy seeing that Matta became very angry.

gadāmādāyasaṅkṛddhomattorākṣasapuṅgavḥ | harīn samabhidudrāvayugāntānagirivajvalan ||6.70.54||

Translation

सङ्कृद्धः very furious, राक्षसपुङ्गवः Rakshasa leader, मत्तः Matta, गदाम् mace, आदाय taking, ज्वलन् fire, युगान्तानगिरिव like at the time of the end of universe, हरीन् monkeys, समभिदुद्राव scattered.

Meaning

Matta, the Rakshasa leader became very furious and took hold of the mace glowing like fire, at the time of dissolution of the universe and scattered the monkeys.

अथर्षभस्समुत्पत्यवानरोरावणानुजम् । मत्तानीकमुपागम्यतस्थौतस्याग्रतोबली ।।6.70.55।।

atharṣabhassamutpatyavānarorāvaṇānujam | mattānīkamupāgamyatasthautasyāgratobalī ||6.70.55||

Translation

अथ and then, बली endowed with prowess, र्षभः bull, वानरः among Vanaras, उत्पत्य springing up, रावणानुजम् Ravana's brother, मत्तानीकम् Mahaparsva (Mattaneekam), उपागम्य coming near, तस्य his, अग्रतः anger, तस्थौ his, तस्याग्रतो stood in his front.

Meaning

Rshaba, the bull among Vanaras endowed with prowess, springing up came and stood in front of Mahaparsva.

तंपुरस्तात् स्थितंदृष्टवावानरंपर्वतोपमम् । आजघानोरसिक्रुद्धोगदयावज्रकल्पया ।।6.70.56।।

tṃpurastāt sthitṃdṛṣṭavāvānarṃparvatopamam | ājaghānorasikruddhogadayāvajrakalpayā ||6.70.56||

Translation

पुरस्तात् again, स्थितम् standing, पर्वतोपमम् like a mountain, वानरम् Vanara, दृष्टवा seeing, क्रुद्धः angry, वज्रकल्पया close to thunderbolt, गदया with mace, उरसि on the chest, आजघान hit.

Meaning

Again, seeing Rshaba standing in front like a mountain, enraged Mahaparsva hit him on the chest with the mace that was like a thunderbolt.

तेन by that, तया by the, गदया mace, अभिहतः hit that way, सः he, वानरर्षभः bull of Vanaras, भिन्नवक्षाः chest broken, समाधूतः moved, बहु excessively, रुधिरम् blood, सुस्राव flowed.

Regaining consciousness after a long time the monkey chief, Rshaba, was angry, his lips quivering as he was, ran to Mahaparsva.

स वेगवान् वेगवदभ्युपेत्यतंराक्षसंवानरवीरमुख्यः । सम्वर्त्यमुष्टिंसहसाजघानबाह्वन्तरेशैलनिकाशरूपः ।।6.70.59।।

sa vegavān vegavadabhyupetyatṃrākṣasṃvānaravīramukhyḥ | samvartyamuṣṭiṃsahasājaghānabāhvantareśailanikāśarūpḥ ||6.70.59||

Translation

वेगवान् endowed with speed, शैलनिकाशरूपः of mountain like form, सः he, वानरवीरमुख्यः chief of Vanaras, वेगवत् quickly, अभ्युपेत्य getting up, मुष्टिम् fist, सम्वर्त्य duly, तंराक्षसम् that Rakshasa, बाह्वन्तरे space between two arms, सहसा forcibly, जघान hit.

Meaning

The chief of the Vanaras, whose form was like a mountain, endowed with speed, got up quickly, duly, and forcibly hit the Rakshasa (Mahaparsva) in the space between his arms.

sa kṛttamūlassahasevavṛkṣḥkṣitaupapātakṣatajokṣitāṅgḥ | tāṃcāsyaghorāṃyamadaṇḍakalpāṃgadāṃpragṛhyāśutadānanāda ||6.70.60||

Translation

सः he, कृत्तमूलः roots severed, वृक्षःइव like the tree, क्षतजोक्षिताङ्गः all his limbs smashed, सहसा forcibly, क्षितौ broken, पपात fell, तदा then, अस्य his, घोराम् dreadful, यमदण्डकल्पाम् which was like Lord of death 's rod, तांगदाम् that mace, आशु hold, प्रगृह्य seizing, ननाद roared.

Meaning

Like a tree whose roots have been severed, the Rakshasa fell on the ground. Then seizing forcibly, the dreadful mace that resembled the rod of Lord of death he roared.

YK-70-61Yuddha Kanda 70.61

मुहूर्तमासीत्सगतासुकल्पःप्रत्यागतात्मासहसासुरारिः । उत्पत्यसन्ध्याभ्रसमानवर्णस्तंवारिराजात्मजमाजघान ।।6.70.61।।

muhūrtamāsītsagatāsukalpḥpratyāgatātmāsahasāsurāriḥ | utpatyasandhyābhrasamānavarṇastṃvārirājātmajamājaghāna ||6.70.61||

Translation

सः he, मुहूर्तम् for a short while, गतासुकल्पः life gone like, आसीत् seated, सहसा suddenly, सन्ध्याभ्रसमानवर्णः of the colour of evening sun, सुरारिः enemy of gods, प्रत्यागतात्मा life having restored, उत्पत्य got up, तम् him, वारिराजात्मजम् son of waters, आजघान struck.

Meaning

For a short while, Mahaparsva, the enemy of gods remained as if life had gone off up and struck the son of waters (Rshaba).

YK-70-62Yuddha Kanda 70.62

स मूर्भितोभूमितलेपपातमुहूर्तमुत्पत्यपुनस्ससंज्ञः । तामेवतस्याद्रिवराद्रिकल्पांगदांसमाविध्यजघानसङ्ख्ये ।।6.70.62।।

sa mūrbhitobhūmitalepapātamuhūrtamutpatyapunassasṃjñḥ | tāmevatasyādrivarādrikalpāṃgadāṃsamāvidhyajaghānasaṅkhye ||6.70.62||

Translation

सः he, मूर्भितः unconscious, मुहूर्तम् for a while, भूमितले on the ground, पपात fallen, ससंज्ञः regained, पुनः again, उत्पत्य got up, तस्य his, अद्रिवराद्रिकल्पाम् which looked like rock of a foremost mountain, ताम् him, गदामेव with mace, समाविध्य overcoming, सङ्ख्ये battlefield, जघान struck.

Meaning

The monkey was unconscious for a while having fallen on the ground. Regaining senses, overcoming, took up the mace which looked like the rock of a foremost mountain and struck him (Mahaparsva) on the battlefield.

YK-70-63Yuddha Kanda 70.63

सातस्यरौद्रासमुपेत्यदेहंरौद्रस्यदेवाध्वरविप्रशत्रोः । बिभेदवक्षःक्षतजं च भूरिसुस्रावधात्वम्भइवाद्रिराजः ।।6.70.63।।

sātasyaraudrāsamupetyadehṃraudrasyadevādhvaravipraśatroḥ | bibhedavakṣḥkṣatajṃ ca bhūrisusrāvadhātvambhaivādrirājḥ ||6.70.63||

Translation

रौद्रा ferocious, सा he, रौद्रस्य in anger, देवाध्वरविप्रशत्रोः enemy of gods and brahmins, तस्य his, देहम् body, समुपेत्य reaching near, वक्षः chest, बिभेद split, अद्रिराजः Himalaya mountain, धात्वम्भः water, भूरि timid, क्षतजम् with minerals, सुस्राव flowed.

Meaning

He (Rshaba) reached the body of the ferocious enemy of gods and brahmins. He split his chest with his mace and the timid Rakshasa shed blood just as Himalaya Mountain discharges water.

YK-70-64Yuddha Kanda 70.64

अभिदुद्राववेगेनगदांतस्यमहात्मनः । गृहीत्वातांगदांभीमामाविध्य च पुनःपुनः ।।6.70.64।। मत्तानीकंमहात्मानंजघानरणमूर्धनि ।

abhidudrāvavegenagadāṃtasyamahātmanḥ | gṛhītvātāṃgadāṃbhīmāmāvidhya ca punḥpunḥ ||6.70.64|| mattānīkṃmahātmānṃjaghānaraṇamūrdhani |

Translation

महात्मा great, सः he, महात्मनः great soul, तस्य his, गदाम् mace, अभिदुद्राव went towards, भीमाम् dreadful, तांगदाम् that mace, गृहीत्वा taking hold, पुनःपुनः again and again, आविध्य pierced, रणमूर्धनि in the forefront of the battle, मत्तानीकम् Mattanikam, जघान struck.

Meaning

The great Rakshasa Mahaparsva went towards the mace held by Rshaba, the great soul. Taking hold of the mace, Rshaba struck the Rakshasa again and again and pierced him in the forefront of the battlefield.

YK-70-65Yuddha Kanda 70.65

स स्वयागदयाभग्नोविदीर्णदशनेक्षणः ।।6.70.65।। निपपातततोमत्तोवज्राहतइवाचलः ।

sa svayāgadayābhagnovidīrṇadaśanekṣaṇḥ ||6.70.65|| nipapātatatomattovajrāhataivācalḥ |

Translation

स्वया his own, गदया mace, भग्नः shattered by, सः he, मत्तः Matta विशीर्णदशनेक्षणः whose eyes had been crushed, तदा then, वज्राहतः struck by lightning, अचलःइव like a mountain, निपपात fallen.

Meaning

Shattered by his own mace, Matta (Mahaparsva), whose eyes had been crushed, had fallen like a mountain struck by lightning.

YK-70-66Yuddha Kanda 70.66

विदीर्णनयनेभूमौगतसत्त्वेगतायुषि ।।6.70.66।। पतितेराक्षसेतस्मिन् विद्रुतंराक्षसंबलम् ।

vidīrṇanayanebhūmaugatasattvegatāyuṣi ||6.70.66|| patiterākṣasetasmin vidrutṃrākṣasṃbalam |

Translation

गतसत्त्वे strength gone, गतायुषि life ceased, विदीर्णनयने eyes crushed, तस्मिन् राक्षसे his Rakshasas, भूमौ ground, पतिते fallen, राक्षसम् Rakshasa, बलम् army, विद्रुतम् ran in fear.

Meaning

Strength gone, life ceased, eyes crushed, his own Rakshasas fallen on the ground, the Rakshasa army fled.
