YK-7-1Yuddha Kanda 7.1

इत्युक्ताराक्षसेन्द्रेणराक्षसास्तेमहाबलाः । ऊचुःप्रान्जलयःसर्वेरावणंराक्षसेश्वरम् ।।6.7.1।।

ityuktārākṣasendreṇarākṣasāstemahābalāḥ | ūcuḥprānjalayḥsarverāvaṇṃrākṣaseśvaram ||6.7.1||

Translation

राक्षसेन्द्रेण: to the leader of Rakshasas, सर्वे: all Rakshasas, महाबलाः of mighty strength प्रान्जलयः greeting with folded hand s, राक्षसास्ते: the Rakshasas, राक्षसेश्वरम्: Lord of Rakshasas, रावणं: to Ravana ऊचुः having heard, इत्युक्ता: thus spoke.

Meaning

All the Rakshasas of mighty strength, having heard the Lord of Rakshasas, thus spoke to their leader, greeting with folded hands.

YK-7-2Yuddha Kanda 7.2

द्विषत्पक्षमविज्ञायनीतिबाह्यास्त्वबुद्धयः । राजन्परिघशक्त्यृष्टिशूलपट्टिशकुन्तलम् ।।6.7.2।।

dviṣatpakṣamavijñāyanītibāhyāstvabuddhayḥ | rājanparighaśaktyṛṣṭiśūlapaṭṭiśakuntalam ||6.7.2||

Translation

राजन्: o king परिघ: iron bars, शक्त्यृष्टि: javelins, शूलपट्टि: arrows, and swords, शकुन्तलम्: sharp edged spears, द्विषत्पक्षम: double edged swords, अविज्ञाय: not knowing, नीतिबाह्या: political intelligence, स्त्वबुद्धयः submitted by themselves.

Meaning

"O King The ogres are not having political intelligence. They have submitted themselves, even though they are mighty and are having iron bars, javelins, sharp edged spears, and doubleedged swords."

YK-7-3Yuddha Kanda 7.3

इत्युक्ताराक्षसेन्द्रेणराक्षसास्तेमहाबलाः । ऊचुःप्रान्जलयःसर्वेरावणंराक्षसेश्वरम् ।।6.7.3।। द्विषत्पक्षमविज्ञायनीतिबाह्यास्त्वबुद्धयः ।

ityuktārākṣasendreṇarākṣasāstemahābalāḥ | ūcuḥprānjalayḥsarverāvaṇṃrākṣaseśvaram ||6.7.3|| dviṣatpakṣamavijñāyanītibāhyāstvabuddhayḥ |

Translation

इत्युक्ता: having spoken thus, राक्षसेन्द्रेण: by the Lord of Rakshasas, राक्षसास्ते (तेराक्षसा ): those Rakshasa, महाबलाः who were very strong, द्विषत्पक्षं: the enemy's side अविज्ञाय: ignorant about, नीतिबाह्या: without having political wisdom, (नीतिबाह्यास्त्वबुद्धयःनीतिबाह्या: तु अबुद्धय:) अबुद्धय: not intelligent, ऊचुः told, प्रान्जलयः with folded hands, रावणं: to Ravana, राक्षसेश्वरम्: the king of Rakshasas.

Meaning

The Lord of Rakshasas having spoken like that, to the Rakshasas, who were very strong, but ignorant about the enemy's strength and who were not endowed with political wisdom, spoke to Ravana, the king of Rakshasas, the following words with folded hands.

YK-7-4Yuddha Kanda 7.4

राजन्परिघशक्त्यृष्टिशूलपट्टिशकुन्तलम् ।।6.7.4।।

rājanparighaśaktyṛṣṭiśūlapaṭṭiśakuntalam ||6.7.4||

Translation

राजन्: Oh king, परिघ: iron bars, शक्ति: javelins, ऋष्टि: double edged swords, शूल: spear, पट्टिश: spear with a sharp edge or some other weapon with three points, कुन्तलम्: ploughs.

Meaning

"Oh king, (our army is equipped with) iron bars, javelins, double edged swords, spears, three pointed weapons, ploughs etc."

YK-7-5Yuddha Kanda 7.5

सुमहन्नोबलंकस्माद्विषादंभजतेभवान् । त्वयाभोगवतींगत्वानिर्जिताःपन्नगायुधि ।।6.7.5।।

sumahannobalṃkasmādviṣādṃbhajatebhavān | tvayābhogavatīṃgatvānirjitāḥpannagāyudhi ||6.7.5||

Translation

सुमहन्नोबलं: mighty army strength, कस्माद्: why, विषादं: despondent भजते: give way भवान्: you, त्वया: by you पन्नगा: Nagas, युधि: in war, भोगवतीं: Bhogavathi, गत्वा: going, निर्जिताः subdued

Meaning

"Why are you despondent? You have huge and mighty army strength. When you went to Bhogavathi, the Nagas were subdued in war by your mighty army."

YK-7-6Yuddha Kanda 7.6

कैलासशिखरावासीयक्षैर्बहुभिरावृतः । सुमहत्कदनंकृत्वावश्यस्तेधनदःकृतः ।।6.7.6।।

kailāsaśikharāvāsīyakṣairbahubhirāvṛtḥ | sumahatkadanṃkṛtvāvaśyastedhanadḥkṛtḥ ||6.7.6||

Translation

कैलासशिखरावासी: he who lives on the peak of mount Kailas: बहुभि: numerous, यक्षै: Yakshas, (बहुभि: आवृत: बाहुभिरावृत:) आवृतः surrounded by, सुमहत: great, कदनं: sorrow कृत्वा: being caused, वश्यस्ते: surrendered to you, धनदः bestow er of wealth (Kubera) कृतः remained.

YK-7-7Yuddha Kanda 7.7

समहेश्वरसख्येनश्लाघमानस्त्वयाविभो । निर्जितःसमरेरोषाल्लोकपालोमहाबलः ।।6.7.7।।

samaheśvarasakhyenaślāghamānastvayāvibho | nirjitḥsamareroṣāllokapālomahābalḥ ||6.7.7||

Translation

स: that, महेश्वरसख्येन: by the friendship of Maheswara (Siva), श्लाघमान: priding महाबलः strong, ल्लोकपालो: ruler of the world, स्त्वया: by you might, विभो: O king, निर्जितः subdued, समरे: in conflict.

Meaning

"O King Proud of his friendship with Lord Maheshwara (Siva), that mighty ruler of the world Kubera was subdued by you in the conflict."

YK-7-8Yuddha Kanda 7.8

विनिहत्यचयक्षौघान्विक्षोभ्यचविनिगृह्यच । त्वयाकैलासशिखराद्विमानमिदमाहृतम् ।।6.7.8।।

vinihatyacayakṣaughānvikṣobhyacavinigṛhyaca | tvayākailāsaśikharādvimānamidamāhṛtam ||6.7.8||

Translation

त्वया: by you, यक्षौघान्: hordes of yaksha, विनिहत्य: taking as prisoners, विक्षोभ्यच: causing disturbance by stirring and, विनिगृह्यच: and taking away, कैलासशिखराद्: from mount Kailas, विमानमिदमाहृतम्: brought this great aerial chariot.

Meaning

"Causing terrific disturbance to the hordes of Yakshas and taking them as prisoners, you have brought the great aerial chariot from mount Kailas."

YK-7-9Yuddha Kanda 7.9

मयेनदानवेन्द्रेणत्वद्भयात्सख्यमिच्छता । दुहितातवभार्यार्थेदत्ताराक्षसपुङ्गव ।।6.7.9।।

mayenadānavendreṇatvadbhayātsakhyamicchatā | duhitātavabhāryārthedattārākṣasapuṅgava ||6.7.9||

Translation

राक्षसपुङ्गव: leader of Rakshasas, दानवेन्द्रेण: ruler of Danavas, मयेन: by Maya, त्वद्भयात्: out of fear of you, मिच्छता: sought, सख्य: alliance, दत्ता: given तव: to you, भार्यार्थे: wife, दुहिता: daughter.

Meaning

"Maya, the ruler of Danavas has given his daughter (Mandodari) to you as a wife out of fear of you, O leader of Rakshasas"

YK-7-10Yuddha Kanda 7.10

दानवेन्द्रोमधुर्नामवीर्योत्सिक्तोदुरासदः । विगृह्यवशमानीतःकुम्भीनस्याःसुखावहः ।।6.7.10।।

dānavendromadhurnāmavīryotsiktodurāsadḥ | vigṛhyavaśamānītḥkumbhīnasyāḥsukhāvahḥ ||6.7.10||

Translation

दुरासदः difficult to approach, वीर्योत्सिक्तो: proud of his valour, कुम्भीनस्याः Kumbhinasi (your sister), सुखावहः who brings joy to her (who is husband of), दानवेन्द्रो: ruler of Danavas, मधुर्नाम: called as Madhu, विगृह्य: offering to fight and win, वशमानीतः subjugated to you.

Meaning

"Madhu, another ruler of Danavas who was proud of his valour and difficult to approach, the husband of Kumbhinasi was subjugated by you by your offering to fight with him."

YK-7-11Yuddha Kanda 7.11

निर्जितास्तेमहाबाहोनागागत्वारसातलम् । वासुकिस्तक्षकःशङखोजटीचवशमाहृताः ।।6.7.11।।

nirjitāstemahābāhonāgāgatvārasātalam | vāsukistakṣakḥśaṅakhojaṭīcavaśamāhṛtāḥ ||6.7.11||

Translation

महाबाहो: mighty armed, स्ते: you गत्वा: going to, रसातलम्: subterranean region वासुकि:: Vasuki, तक्षकः Takshaka, शङखो: Shanka, जटीच: and Jati, नागा: serpent demons, र्जिता: winning over, वशमाहृताः made them submit to you.

Meaning

"O mighty armed king Going to the subterranean world, you won over the serpent demons Vasuki, Takshaka, Shanka and Jati and made them submit to you."

YK-7-12Yuddha Kanda 7.12

अक्षयाबलवन्तश्चशूरालब्धवराःपुनः । त्वयासंवत्सरंयुद्ध्वासमरेदानवाविभो ।।6.7.12।।

akṣayābalavantaścaśūrālabdhavarāḥpunḥ | tvayāsṃvatsarṃyuddhvāsamaredānavāvibho ||6.7.12||

Translation

अक्षया: imperishable, बलवन्तश्च: strong and mighty, शूरा: warriors, लब्धवराः who had obtained boon, त्वया: by you, संवत्सरं: one year, युद्ध्वा: fighting, पुनः again, समरे: in war, दानवा: Danavas, विभो: Oh Lord.

Meaning

"The mighty and strong Danava warriors who had obtained boon were made to fight a war by you for one year."

YK-7-13Yuddha Kanda 7.13

स्वबलंसमुपाश्रित्यनीतावशमरिन्दम । मायाश्चाधिगतास्तत्रबह्व्योवैराक्षसाधिप ।।6.7.13।।

svabalṃsamupāśrityanītāvaśamarindama | māyāścādhigatāstatrabahvyovairākṣasādhipa ||6.7.13||

Translation

राक्षसाधिप: king of Rakshasas, स्वबलं: your own strength, समुपाश्रित्य: resorting to, मायाश्च: deceitful tricks, अधिगता: learned, तत्र: there, बह्वो: many, नीता: reduced to, वशम: sub mission, अरिन्दम: subduer of enemies.

Meaning

"O king of Rakshasas (Those Danavas) were reduced to sub mission by resorting to your own strength. Oh subduer of enemies, many deceitful tricks were learned from them."

YK-7-14Yuddha Kanda 7.14

शूराश्चबलवन्तश्चवरुणस्यसुतारणे । निर्जितास्तेमहाभागचतुर्विधबलानुगाः ।।6.7.14।।

śūrāścabalavantaścavaruṇasyasutāraṇe | nirjitāstemahābhāgacaturvidhabalānugāḥ ||6.7.14||

Translation

महाभाग: blessed one, चतुर्विधबलानुगाः four kinds of army, शूराश्च: capable heroes, बलवन्तश्च: mighty strong, वरुणस्य: Varuna's, सुता: sons, रणे: in war, निर्जिता: have won, ते: by you.

Meaning

"O blessed king Mighty strong sons of Varuna, heroes capable of war and of all the four kinds of army have been won by you."

YK-7-15-17Yuddha Kanda 7.15–17 (त्रिकम्)

मृत्युदण्डमहाग्राहंशाल्मलिद्रुममण्डितम् । कालपाशमहावीचिंयमकिंकरपन्नगम् ।।6.7.15।। महाज्वरेणदुर्धर्षंयमलोकमहार्णवम् । अवगाह्यत्वयाराजन्यमस्यबलसागरम् ।।6.7.16।। जयश्चविपुलःप्राप्तोमृत्युश्चप्रतिषेधितः । सुयुद्धेनचतेसर्वेलोकास्तत्रसुतोषिताः ।।6.7.17।।

mṛtyudaṇḍamahāgrāhṃśālmalidrumamaṇḍitam | kālapāśamahāvīciṃyamakiṃkarapannagam ||6.7.15|| mahājvareṇadurdharṣṃyamalokamahārṇavam | avagāhyatvayārājanyamasyabalasāgaram ||6.7.16|| jayaścavipulḥprāptomṛtyuścapratiṣedhitḥ | suyuddhenacatesarvelokāstatrasutoṣitāḥ ||6.7.17||

Translation

मृत्युदण्ड: Yama's rod of death, महाग्राहं: huge alligator, शाल्मलिद्रुममण्डितम्: adorned with Salmali trees (bristling with thorns to be used as weapons), कालपाश: noose of time (Kala), महावीचिं: hugely turbulent wave, यमकिंकरपन्नगम्: Lord of death 's attendants as serpents, महाज्वरेण: on account of mighty Jwara (spirit of fever), दुर्धर्षं: unassailable, यमलोकमहार्णवम्: ocean in the shape of Yama's realm, अवगाह्य: plunging into. त्वया: by you, राजन्: Oh King, यमस्य: realm of death, बलसागरम्: ocean of army, जयश्च: victory, विपुल: great, प्राप्तो: obtained, मृत्युश्च: and death, प्रतिषेधितः warded off, सुयुद्धेनच: and by good battle, ते: your, सर्वे: all, लोका: people (of that world), तत्र: there, सुतोषिताः were delighted.

Meaning

"Oh King Plunging into the ocean, which was in the shape of Yama's realm, with an enormous alligator in the form of rod of death, adorned with Salmali trees, turbulent with a huge wave in the form of Death 's noose, infested with Lord of Death's attendants as serpents, unassailable on account of the mighty Jwara (spirit of fever), you have obtained a great victory over the Lord of Death 's great army and the army was warded off. By your good battle all the people (of the world) were delighted.

YK-7-18Yuddha Kanda 7.18

क्षत्रियैर्बहुभिर्वीरैःशक्रतुल्यपराक्रमैः । आसीद्वसुमतीपूर्णामहद्भिरिवपादपैः ।।6.7.18।।

kṣatriyairbahubhirvīraiḥśakratulyaparākramaiḥ | āsīdvasumatīpūrṇāmahadbhirivapādapaiḥ ||6.7.18||

Translation

क्षत्रियैर्: warriors, आसीद: was, बहुभि: many, र्वीरैः strong, शक्रतुल्यपराक्रमैः with courage equal to Indra, आसीद्: was, वसुमती: Earth, पूर्णा: fully, महद्भिरिव: like great, पादपैः trees

Meaning

"The earth was fully filled with Kshatriya heroes of great prowess, equal to Indra in war who stood like trees on earth."

YK-7-19Yuddha Kanda 7.19

तेषांवीर्यगुणोत्साहैर्नसमोराघवोरणे । प्रसह्यतेत्वयाराजन्हताःसमरदुर्जयाः ।।6.7.19।।

teṣāṃvīryaguṇotsāhairnasamorāghavoraṇe | prasahyatetvayārājanhatāḥsamaradurjayāḥ ||6.7.19||

Translation

तेषाम्: to them, वीर्यगुणोत्साहै: valour, excellence and energy, न: not, समो: equal, राघवो: Raghava, प्रसह्य: were overpowered, त्वया: by you, राजन्: King, हता: Killed, समरदुर्जयाः who were difficult to be overpowered.

Meaning

"Raghava is not equal to them in valour, excellence and energy. Those warriors who were difficult to overcome by battle were overpowered and killed by you."

YK-7-20Yuddha Kanda 7.20

तिष्ठवाकिंमहाराजश्रमे णतववानरान् । अयमेकोमहाबाहुरिन्द्रजित्क्षपयिष्यति ।।6.7.20।।

tiṣṭhavākiṃmahārājaśrame ṇatavavānarān | ayamekomahābāhurindrajitkṣapayiṣyati ||6.7.20||

Translation

तिष्ठ: you stay, किम्: why, महाराज: Oh great king तव: your, श्रमेण: by exertion, वानरान्: the monkeys, अयम्: this, एको: alone, महाबाहु: strong armed, इन्द्रजित्: Indrajith (Elder son of Ravana) क्षपयिष्यति: can destroy.

Meaning

"Oh great king, you stay here calmly. Why exert yourself? This strong armed Indrajith alone can destroy those Vanaras."

YK-7-21Yuddha Kanda 7.21

अनेनहिमहाराजमहेश्वरमनुत्तमम् । इष्ट्वायज्ञंवरोलब्धोलोकेपरमदुर्लभः ।।6.7.21।।

anenahimahārājamaheśvaramanuttamam | iṣṭvāyajñṃvarolabdholokeparamadurlabhḥ ||6.7.21||

Translation

अनेन: by him, महाराज: great king, महेश्वर: Lord Maheshwara (Siva), अनुत्तमम्: supreme इष्ट्वायज्ञं: performing sacrifice, लब्धो: obtained, लोके: in the world, परमदुर्लभः very difficult, वरो: boon.

Meaning

"Oh Great King By performing supreme sacrifices, Indrajith obtained boons from Lord Maheswara, which are very difficult to get."

YK-7-22-24Yuddha Kanda 7.22–24 (त्रिकम्)

शक्तितोमरमीनंचविनिकीर्णान्त्रशैवलम् । गजकछपसम्बाधमश्वमण्डूकसंकुलम् ।।6.7.22।। रुद्रादित्यमहाग्राहंमरुद्वसुमहोरगम् । रथश्वगजतोयौघंपदातिपुलिनंमहत् ।।6.7.23।। अनेनहिसमासाद्यदेवानांबलसागरम् । गृहीतोदैवतपतिर्लङ्कांचापिप्रवेशितः ।।6.7.24।।

śaktitomaramīnṃcavinikīrṇāntraśaivalam | gajakachapasambādhamaśvamaṇḍūkasṃkulam ||6.7.22|| rudrādityamahāgrāhṃmarudvasumahoragam | rathaśvagajatoyaughṃpadātipulinṃmahat ||6.7.23|| anenahisamāsādyadevānāṃbalasāgaram | gṛhītodaivatapatirlaṅkāṃcāpipraveśitḥ ||6.7.24||

Translation

शक्ति: a powerful weapon like spear, तोमर: javelin, मीनंच: and fish, विनिकीर्णान्त्र: throwing entrails, शैवलम्: mossa water plant, गज: elephants, कछप: tortoises सम्बाध: connected, अश्व: horses, मण्डूक: frogs, संकुलम्: filled with, रुद्रा: Rudras, आदित्य: Adityas, महाग्राहं: huge alligator, मरुद्व: Marudas, सुमहोरगम्: huge serpents, रथश्व: Chariots tied to horses, गज: elephants, तोयौघं: volume of water, पदाति: footsoldiers, पुलिनं: sand beaches, महत्: large, अनेनहि: by him, समासाद्य: encountered, देवानां: of Devas, बलसागरम्: great ocean of army, गृहीतो: captured, दैवतपति: Lord of Devas (Indra), लङ्काच: in Lanka, प्रवेशितः entered.

YK-7-25Yuddha Kanda 7.25

पितामहनियोगाच्चमुक्तःशम्बरवृत्रहा । गतस्त्रिविष्टपम्राजन्सर्वदेवनमस्कृतः ।।6.7.25।।

pitāmahaniyogāccamuktḥśambaravṛtrahā | gatastriviṣṭapamrājansarvadevanamaskṛtḥ ||6.7.25||

Translation

राजन्: king पितामहनियोगाच्च: ordered by creator Brahma, मुक्तः liberated, शम्बरवृत्रहा: the destroyer of Sambara and Vrtra (Indra): सर्वदेवनमस्कृतः adored by all Devas. गतस्त्रिविष्ट: returned to heaven.

Meaning

"Liberated by the command of creator Brahma, Indra the destroyer of Sambara and Vrtra entered heaven was adorned and greeted by all Devas."
