YK-40-1Yuddha Kanda 40.1

ततोरामस्सुवेलाग्रंयोजनद्वयमण्डलम् । अरुरोहससुग्रीवोहरियूधपसम्वृतः ।।6.40.1।।

tatorāmassuvelāgrṃyojanadvayamaṇḍalam | arurohasasugrīvohariyūdhapasamvṛtḥ ||6.40.1||

Translation

ततः there upon, ससुग्रीवः Sugriva, हरियूथपः Vanara troop, सम्वृतः surrounded by, रामः Rama, योजनद्वयमण्डलम् spread over yojanas, सुवेलाग्रम् Suvela peak, उपारोहत् ascended.

Meaning

Rama accompanied by Vanara troop and Sugriva, ascended the peak of Suvela mountain spread over yojanas.

YK-40-2Yuddha Kanda 40.2

स्थित्वामुहूर्तंतत्रैवदिशोदशविलोकयन् । त्रिकूटशिखरेरम्येनिर्मितांविश्वकर्मणा ।।6.40.2।। ददर्शलङ्कांसुन्यस्तांरम्यकाननशोभिताम् ।

sthitvāmuhūrtṃtatraivadiśodaśavilokayan | trikūṭaśikhareramyenirmitāṃviśvakarmaṇā ||6.40.2|| dadarśalaṅkāṃsunyastāṃramyakānanaśobhitām |

Translation

मुहूर्तम् for a short while, तत्रैव there itself, स्थित्वा remaining, दश ten, दिशः directions, विलोयन् observing, रम्ये charming, त्रिकूटशिखरे peak of Trikuta, विश्वकर्मणा by Vishwakarma, निर्मिताम् constructed, सुन्यस्ताम् strongly, रम्यकाननशोभिताम् with delightful groves, लङ्काम् Lanka, ददर्श saw.

Meaning

Remaining there for a short while, Rama observed the view of Lanka in all directions. He saw Lanka built on the charming peak of Trikuta strongly by Vishwakarma, endowed with delightful groves.

YK-40-3-6Yuddha Kanda 40.3–6 (कलापकम्)

तस्यांगोपुरशृङ्गस्थंराक्षसेन्द्रंदुरासदम् ।।6.40.3।। श्वेतचामरपर्यन्तंविजयच्छत्रशोभितम् । रक्तचन्दनसंलिप्तंरत्नाभरणभूषितम् ।।6.40.4।। नीलजीमूतसङ्काशंहेमसञ्छादिताम्बरम् । ऐरावतविषाणाग्रैरुत्कृष्टकिणवक्षसम् ।।6.40.5।। शशलोहितरागेणसंवीतंरक्तवाससा । सन्ध्यातपेनसंवीतंमेघराशिमिवाम्बरे ।।6.40.6।।

tasyāṃgopuraśṛṅgasthṃrākṣasendrṃdurāsadam ||6.40.3|| śvetacāmaraparyantṃvijayacchatraśobhitam | raktacandanasṃliptṃratnābharaṇabhūṣitam ||6.40.4|| nīlajīmūtasaṅkāśṃhemasañchāditāmbaram | airāvataviṣāṇāgrairutkṛṣṭakiṇavakṣasam ||6.40.5|| śaśalohitarāgeṇasṃvītṃraktavāsasā | sandhyātapenasṃvītṃmegharāśimivāmbare ||6.40.6||

Translation

तस्याम् from that, गोपुरशृङ्गस्थम् peak of the tower, दुरासदम् difficult to approach, श्वेतचामरपर्यन्तम् fanned by white whisks on both sides, विजयच्छत्रशोभितम् graced with triumphal parasol, रत्नचन्दनसंलिप्तम् decorated with red sandal paste, रक्ताभरणभूषितम् adorned in red coloured ornaments, नीलजीमूतसङ्काशम् resembling dark clouds, हेमसञ्छादिताम्बरम् attired in red embroidered with golden colour thread, विषाणाग्रैः by the indentations made by the tusks of Airavata elephant of Indra earlier, उत्कृष्टकिणवक्षसम् with scars on chest, शशलोहितरागेण colour of hare's blood, रक्तवाससा by the red coloured attire, संवीतम् सन्ध्यातपेन covered like sun shine at sun set, सञ्छन्नम् , अम्बरे sky, मेघराशिम् इव mass of clouds, राक्षसेन्द्रम् rakshasa king.

Meaning

From there Rama saw on the peak of the tower the Rakshasa king, who is difficult to approach. He was fanned by white whisks on both sides, graced with triumphal parasol, decorated his body with red sandal paste, adorned in redcoloured ornaments, resembling dark clouds, attired in red like the hare's blood, embroidered with golden thread, with scars on his chest caused by indentations made by the tusks of Airavata the elephant of Indra, looked like a mass of cloud covered by sunshine at dusk.

YK-40-7Yuddha Kanda 40.7

पश्यतांवानरेन्द्राणांराघवस्यापिपश्यतः । दर्शनाद्राक्षसेन्द्रस्यसुग्रीवस्सहसोत्थितः ।।6.40.7।।

paśyatāṃvānarendrāṇāṃrāghavasyāpipaśyatḥ | darśanādrākṣasendrasyasugrīvassahasotthitḥ ||6.40.7||

Translation

सुग्रीवः Sugriva, राक्षसेन्द्रस्य Rakshasa king, दर्शनात् sight of looking, वानरेन्द्राणाम् by the king of Vanaras, पश्यताम् seeing, राघवस्यापि at Raghava, पश्यतः seeing, सहसा rashly, उत्थितः got up.

Meaning

Looking at the sight of Raghava seeing Rakshasa king, Sugriva the king of Vanaras got up instantly rashly.

YK-40-8Yuddha Kanda 40.8

क्रोधवेगेनसंयुक्तस्सत्त्वेनचबलेनच । अचलाग्रादथोत्थायपुप्लुवेगोपुरस्थले ।।6.40.8।।

krodhavegenasṃyuktassattvenacabalenaca | acalāgrādathotthāyapupluvegopurasthale ||6.40.8||

Translation

क्रोथवेगेन provoked by anger, सत्त्वेनच courageous, बलेनच and strong, संयुक्तः impetuous, अथ then, अचलाग्रात् the top of the peak, उत्थाय rose up, गोपुरस्थले peak of the tower, पुप्लुवे flew.

Meaning

Provoked by anger, courageous and strong Sugriva rose up impelled by impetuosity and flew to the peak of the tower.

YK-40-9Yuddha Kanda 40.9

स्थित्वामुहूर्तंसम्प्रेक्ष्यनिर्भयेनान्तरात्मना । तृणीकृत्यचतद्रक्षस्सोऽब्रवीत्परुषंवचः ।।6.40.9।।

sthitvāmuhūrtṃsamprekṣyanirbhayenāntarātmanā | tṛṇīkṛtyacatadrakṣasso'bravītparuṣṃvacḥ ||6.40.9||

Translation

सः he, मुहूर्तम् for a moment, स्थित्वा stood, सम्प्रेक्ष्य looking at, निर्भयेन fearlessly, अन्तरात्मना internally, तत् that, रक्षः ogre, तृणीकृत्यः treating like a straw, परुषम् harsh, वचः words, अब्रवीत् spoke.

Meaning

For a moment he stood looking at the ogre fearlessly in his mind and treating him like straw spoke harsh words.

YK-40-10Yuddha Kanda 40.10

लोकनाथस्यरामस्यसखादासोऽस्मिराक्षस । नमयामोक्ष्यसेऽद्यत्वंपार्थिवेन्द्रस्यतेजसा ।।6.40.10।।

lokanāthasyarāmasyasakhādāso'smirākṣasa | namayāmokṣyase'dyatvṃpārthivendrasyatejasā ||6.40.10||

Translation

राक्षस Rakshasa, लोकनाथस्य ruler of the world, रामस्य at Rama, सखा friend, दासः servant, अस्मि I am, त्वम् your, अद्य his, पार्थिवेन्द्रस्य best of kings, तेजसा power, मया by me, नमोक्ष्यसे will not leave you.

Meaning

"O Rakshasa! I am a friend and servant of the king of kings, ruler of the world. By his power I will not leave you!", Sugriva said.

YK-40-11Yuddha Kanda 40.11

इत्युक्त्वासहसोत्पत्यपुप्लुवेतस्यचोपरि । आकृष्यमुकुटंचित्रंपातयित्वाऽपतद्भुवि ।।6.40.11।।

ityuktvāsahasotpatyapupluvetasyacopari | ākṛṣyamukuṭṃcitrṃpātayitvā'patadbhuvi ||6.40.11||

Translation

इति thus, उक्त्वा having said, सहसा speedily, उत्पत्य got up, तस्य his, उपरि top, पुप्लुवे flying, चित्रम् wonderful, मुकुटम् diadem, आकृष्य held, तत् then, भुवि on the ground, पातयित्वा fell.

Meaning

Having spoken thus, Sugriva got up speedily and flew to the top of the tower (here Ravana was located) held the diadem and pushed it on the ground.

YK-40-12Yuddha Kanda 40.12

समीक्ष्यतूर्णमायान्तमबभाषेनिशाचरः । सुग्रीवस्त्वपरोक्षम् मेहीनग्रीवोभविष्यसि ।।6.40.12।।

samīkṣyatūrṇamāyāntamababhāṣeniśācarḥ | sugrīvastvaparokṣam mehīnagrīvobhaviṣyasi ||6.40.12||

Translation

निशाचरः night ranger, तूर्णम् quickly, आयान्तम् coming towards, तम् him, समीक्ष्य observing, बभाषे announced, त्वम् you, मे my, परोक्षम् without being seen by me, सुग्रीवः Sugriva, हीनग्रीवः without neck, भविष्यसि will make.

Meaning

Observing Sugriva coming towards him, Ravana said, "When you were not seen by me you had a neck. I will make you neckless."

YK-40-13Yuddha Kanda 40.13

इत्युक्त्वोत्थायतंक्षिप्रंबाहुभ्यामाक्षिपत्तले । कन्तुवत्तंसमुत्थायबाहुभ्यामाक्षिपद्धरि ।।6.40.13।।

ityuktvotthāyatṃkṣiprṃbāhubhyāmākṣipattale | kantuvattṃsamutthāyabāhubhyāmākṣipaddhari ||6.40.13||

Translation

इति like that, उक्त्वा said, उत्थाय getting up, बाहुभ्याम् hand s, तम् his, क्षिप्रम् instantly, तले head, आक्षिपत् dashed, सः he, हरिः Vanara, कन्तुवत् like a ball, समुत्थाय getting up, बाहुभ्याम् with both hand s, आक्षिपत् pushed down

Meaning

Telling like that that Ravana got up and threw Sugriva by his hand s to the ground. Then Sugriva getting up like a ball fallen pushed Ravana down.

YK-40-14-15Yuddha Kanda 40.14–15 (युग्मम्)

परस्परंस्वेदविदग्धगात्रौपरस्परंशोणितदिग्धदेहौ । परस्परंलशिष्टनिरुद्धचेष्टौपरस्परंशाल्मलिकिंशुकौयधा ।।6.40.14।। मुष्टिप्रहारैश्चतलप्रहारैररत्निघातैश्चकराग्रघातैः । तौचक्रतुर्युद्धमसह्यरूपंमहाबलौराक्षसवानरेन्द्रौ ।।6.40.15।।

parasparṃsvedavidagdhagātrauparasparṃśoṇitadigdhadehau | parasparṃlaśiṣṭaniruddhaceṣṭauparasparṃśālmalikiṃśukauyadhā ||6.40.14|| muṣṭiprahāraiścatalaprahārairaratnighātaiścakarāgraghātaiḥ | taucakraturyuddhamasahyarūpṃmahābalaurākṣasavānarendrau ||6.40.15||

Translation

परस्परम् one against the other, स्वेदद्विग्धगात्रौ sweating all over the body, परस्परम् one against the other, शोणितरक्तदेहौ bodies coloured red with blood, परस्परम् each one the other, लशिष्टनिरुद्धचेष्टौ clinging to each other bodies interlocked stood motionless, परस्परम् one another, शाल्मलिकिंशुकानिव like the red silkcotton trees, महाबलौ strong, तौ both, राक्षसवानरेन्द्रौ Rakshasa and Vanara kings, मुष्टिप्रहारैश्च fighting with their fists, तलप्रहारैः slaps with palms, अरत्निघातैःच and blows of forearms, कराग्रघातैः hurting with nails, असह्यरूपम् युद्धम् unbearable forms of war, चक्रतुः carried out.

Meaning

Sugriva and Ravana, their bodies sweating all over, bodies coloured red with blood looking like red silk cotton trees, their bodies clinging together interlocked with each other stood motionless. They were fighting with their fists, palms and blows of forearms, hurting each other with nails and carrying out unbearable forms of war.

YK-40-16Yuddha Kanda 40.16

कृत्वानियुद्धंभृशमुग्रवेगौकालंचिर, गोपुरवेदिमध्ये । उत्क्षिप्यचोत्क्षिप्यविनम्यदेहौपादक्रमाद्गोपुरवेदिलग्नौ ।।6.40.16।।

kṛtvāniyuddhṃbhṛśamugravegaukālṃcira, gopuravedimadhye | utkṣipyacotkṣipyavinamyadehaupādakramādgopuravedilagnau ||6.40.16||

Translation

भृशम् violently, उग्रवेग्रौ with aggressive terrible combat, चिरंकालम् for long, गोपुरवेदिमध्ये in the middle of the flat portion of the tower, नियुद्धम् , कृत्वा having done, देहौ body, उत्क्षिप्यउत्क्षिप्य throwing each other repeatedly, विनम्य bending, पादक्रमात् by moving their feet in a direction, गोपुरवेदिलग्नौ stood on the tower.

Meaning

Violently fighting like that aggressively for long, throwing each other down repeatedly, bending and moving their feet in a direction, stood on the fl at area of the peak in the middle portion.

YK-40-17Yuddha Kanda 40.17

अन्योन्यमाविध्यवेदिलग्नौतौपेततुस्सालनिखातमध्ये । उत्पेततुर्भूतलमस्पृशन्तौस्थित्वामुहूर्तंत्वभिनिश्श्वसन्तौ ।।6.40.17।।

anyonyamāvidhyavedilagnautaupetatussālanikhātamadhye | utpetaturbhūtalamaspṛśantausthitvāmuhūrtṃtvabhiniśśvasantau ||6.40.17||

Translation

तौ both, अन्योन्यम् one another, विध्य squeezed, वेदिलग्नौ defensive walls, सालनिखातमध्ये between the boundary and the moat, निपेततुः dropped down, मुहूर्तम् for a moment, अभिनिःश्वसन्तौ gasping heavily, स्थित्वा remaining, स्पृशन्तौ clinging their bodies, भूमितलम् on the ground, उत्पेततुः jumping.

Meaning

Squeezing their bodies of each other they dropped down between the boundary of the peak and the moat. They were gasping heavily for a moment and clung their body to each other jumping.

YK-40-18Yuddha Kanda 40.18

आलिङ् ग्यचालिङ् ग्यचबाहुयोक्स्रैस्संयोजयामासतुराहवेतौ । सम्रम्भशिक्षाबलसम्प्रयुक्तौसंचेरतुस्सम्प्रतियुद्धमार्गैः ।।6.40.18।।

āliṅ gyacāliṅ gyacabāhuyoksraissṃyojayāmāsaturāhavetau | samrambhaśikṣābalasamprayuktausṃceratussampratiyuddhamārgaiḥ ||6.40.18||

Translation

तौ they, बाहुयोक्स्रै pressing their bosoms, आलिङ् ग्यच clung to each other, आलिङ् ग्यच and fastened to each other in embrace, आहवे in combat, संयोजयामासतुः having received similar training, सम्रम्भशिक्षाबलसम्प्रयुक्तौ endowed with might, सम्प्रति at this time, युद्धमार्गैः war methods, सुचेरतुः went on.

Meaning

Both pressing their bosom to each other, clung to each other, and fastened themselves in embrace in the comb at having received similar training in war and both endowed with might. At this time, they went on in comb at using several war methods.

YK-40-19Yuddha Kanda 40.19

शार्दूरसिंहाविवजातदर्पौगजेन्द्रपोताविवसम्प्रयुक्तौ । संहत्यचापीड्यचतावुरोभ्यांनिपेततुर्वैयुगपद्धरण्याम् ।।6.40.19।।

śārdūrasiṃhāvivajātadarpaugajendrapotāvivasamprayuktau | sṃhatyacāpīḍyacatāvurobhyāṃnipetaturvaiyugapaddharaṇyām ||6.40.19||

Translation

तौ both, जातदर्पौ affected by pride, शार्दूलसिंहानिव l who resembled tiger and lion, सम्प्रयुक्तौ connecting to each other, गजेन्द्रपोताविव like Lordly elephants, तावुरोभ्याम् through their shoulders, चापीड्य hitting, संवेद्यच and hurting each other, युगपत् simultaneously at once, धरायाम् holding one another, पेततुःवै fell on the ground.

Meaning

Both of them resembled a tiger and lion affected by pride, connecting to each other through their shoulders like Lordly elephants, hitting and hurting one another holding one another fell down at once simultaneously.

YK-40-20Yuddha Kanda 40.20

उद्यम्यचान्योन्यमधिक्षिपन्तौसञ्चक्रमातेबहुयुद्धमार्गे: । व्यायामशिक्षाबलसम्प्रयुक्तौक्लमंनतौजग्मतुराशुवीरौ ।।6.40.20।।

udyamyacānyonyamadhikṣipantausañcakramātebahuyuddhamārge: | vyāyāmaśikṣābalasamprayuktauklamṃnataujagmaturāśuvīrau ||6.40.20||

Translation

अन्योन्यम् one another, उद्यम्य holding, अधिक्षिपन्तौ snubbing each other, युद्धमार्गै: kinds of war, बहु many, सञ्चक्रमाते gradually, व्यायामशिक्षाबलसम्प्रयुक्तौ well trained in wrestling and fighting, तौ both of them, वीरौ heroes, क्लमम् tiresomeness, नजग्मतुः not felt.

Meaning

Both of them were holding one another, snubbing each other gradually following many kinds of combat. As both the heroes were well trained in wrestling and fighting, they did not feel tiresome.

YK-40-21Yuddha Kanda 40.21

बाहूत्तमैर्वारणवारणाभैर्निवारयन्तौवरवारणाभौ । चिरेणकालेनतुसम्प्रयुक्तौसञ्चेरतुर्मण्डलमार्गमाशु ।।6.40.21।।

bāhūttamairvāraṇavāraṇābhairnivārayantauvaravāraṇābhau | cireṇakālenatusamprayuktausañceraturmaṇḍalamārgamāśu ||6.40.21||

Translation

र्वारणवारणाभै Sugriva and Ravana both, वारणवारणाभैः resisting each other, बाहूत्तमैः endowed with mighty arms, निवारयन्तौ keeping away each other, चिरेणकालेन for long time, तु, सम्प्रयुक्तौ engaged in combat, आशु swiftly, मण्डलमार्गम् going round and round, संचेरतुः remained moving.

Meaning

Both Ravana and Sugriva endowed with mighty arms, were resisting each other, and keeping away one another engaging in comb at for a long time. They kept on moving, going around each other swiftly.

YK-40-22Yuddha Kanda 40.22

तौपरस्परमासाद्ययत्तावन्योन्यसूदने । मार्जाराविवभक्ष्यार्थेऽवितस्थातेमुहुर्मुहुः ।।6.40.22।।

tauparasparamāsādyayattāvanyonyasūdane | mārjārāvivabhakṣyārthe'vitasthātemuhurmuhuḥ ||6.40.22||

Translation

अन्योन्यसूदने intending to destroy each other, यत्तौ approaching each other, तौ both, परस्परम् one another, आसाद्य to kill, भक्ष्यार्थे for the sake of food, मार्जाराविव like cats, मुहुर्मुहुः again and again, अवितस्थाते falsely.

Meaning

Both of them intent on destroying each other were approaching one another and now and then growling like cats for the sake of food.

YK-40-23-26Yuddha Kanda 40.23–26 (कलापकम्)

मण्डलानिविचित्राणिस्थानानिविविधानिच । मूत्रकाणिचित्राणिगतप्रत्यागतानिच ।।6.40.23।। तिरच्शीनगतान्येवतथावक्रगतानिच । परिमोक्षंप्रहाराणांवर्जनंपरिधावनम् ।।6.40.24।। अभिद्रवणमाप्लावमावस्थानंसविग्रहम् । परावृत्तमपावृत्तमपद्रुतमवप्लुतम् ।।6.40.25।। उपन्यस्तपमन्यस्तंयुद्धमार्गविशारदौ । तौसञ्चेचेरतुरन्योन्यंवानरेन्द्रश्चरावणः ।।6.40.26।।

maṇḍalānivicitrāṇisthānānivividhānica | mūtrakāṇicitrāṇigatapratyāgatānica ||6.40.23|| tiracśīnagatānyevatathāvakragatānica | parimokṣṃprahārāṇāṃvarjanṃparidhāvanam ||6.40.24|| abhidravaṇamāplāvamāvasthānṃsavigraham | parāvṛttamapāvṛttamapadrutamavaplutam ||6.40.25|| upanyastapamanyastṃyuddhamārgaviśāradau | tausañceceraturanyonyṃvānarendraścarāvaṇḥ ||6.40.26||

Translation

युद्धमार्गविशारदौ learned in war craft, तौ both, वानरेन्द्रश्च Vanara king's, रावणः Ravana, विचित्राणि wonderful, मण्डलानि circles, विविधानि many, स्थानानि postures, चित्राणि wonderful, गोमूत्रकाणि ox's urine, गतप्रत्यागतानिच forward and backward movements, तिरच्शीनगतान्येव horizontal and oblique movement, तथा similarly, वक्रगतानिच roundabout and evasive movements, प्रहाराणाम् hitting, परिमोक्षम् delivering, वर्जनम् abandoning, परिधावनम् striking, अभिद्रवणम् assaulting, आप्लावम् jumping, सविग्रहम् motionless, अवस्थानम् standing steadily, परावृत्तम् , अपावृत्तम् going away circling round, अपद्रुतम् going backwards, अवप्लुतम् jumping behind, उपन्यस्तम् holding the hand, अपन्यस्तम् folding the hand, सञ्चेरतुः exhibiting.

Meaning

Both Vanara king and Ravana being learned in war craft, went around in circles like ox's urine, stood in different wonderful postures, moved forward and backward horizontally and obliquely to evade movements, hitting, and delivering each other, standing steadily motionless, striking, jumping, assaulting each other coming forward and going away, going backwards jumping from behind, holding hands and folding to resist exhibiting their skill in combat.

YK-40-27-28Yuddha Kanda 40.27–28 (युग्मम्)

एतस्मिन्नन्तरेरक्षोमायाबलमथात्मनः । आरब्धुमुपसंपेदेज्ञात्वातंवानराधिपः ।।6.40.27।। उत्पपाततदाकाशंजितकाशीजितक्लमः । रावणःस्थितएवात्रहरिराजेववञ्चितः ।।6.40.28।।

etasminnantarerakṣomāyābalamathātmanḥ | ārabdhumupasṃpedejñātvātṃvānarādhipḥ ||6.40.27|| utpapātatadākāśṃjitakāśījitaklamḥ | rāvaṇḥsthitaevātraharirājevavañcitḥ ||6.40.28||

Translation

अथ then, एतस्मिन् in the, अन्तरे meantime, रक्षः Rakshasa, आत्मनः in himself, मायाबलम् jugglery, आरब्दुम् exhibit, उपसंपेदे superior, वानराधिपः Vanara leader, तम् , ज्ञात्वा knowing, जितकाशी assuming the air of victor, जितक्लमः one who is untiring, तदा then, आकाशम् sky, उत्पपात rose up, हरिराजेन Vanara king's, वञ्चितः baffled, रावणः Ravana, अत्रैव there, स्थितः stood

Meaning

In the meantime, Ravana thought of exhibiting his superiority by jugglery and jumped to the sky. Knowing that Sugriva, the untiring Vanara king assumed the air of victor and rose up to the sky. Baffled Ravana stood thinking Sugriva would come there.

YK-40-29Yuddha Kanda 40.29

अथहरिवरनाथःप्राप्यसङ्ग्रामकीर्तिंनिशिचरपतिमाजौयोजयित्वाश्रमेण । गगनमतिविशालंलङ्घयित्वार्कसूनुर्हरिगणमध्येरामपार्श्वंजगाम ।।6.40.29।।

athaharivaranāthḥprāpyasaṅgrāmakīrtiṃniśicarapatimājauyojayitvāśrameṇa | gaganamativiśālṃlaṅghayitvārkasūnurharigaṇamadhyerāmapārśvṃjagāma ||6.40.29||

Translation

अथ and then, हरिनरनाथः Lord of Vanara chiefs, अर्कसूनुः son of Sun god, प्राप्यसङ्ग्रामकीर्तिः who had won fame in winning battles, आजौ victorious, निशिचरपतिम् Lord of night rangers, श्रमेण exhausting, योजयित्वा travelling, अतिविशालम् extensive, गगनम् sky, लङ्घयित्वा flying, हरिगणबलमध्ये in the midst of Vanara army, रामपार्श्वम् side of Rama, जगाम reached.

Meaning

Then Sugriva, the Sun god's son, the Lord of Vanara chiefs, who had won fame of winning in battles, victorious exhausting Ravana in comb at flying the extensive sky reached Rama who was amid Vanara army.

इतिससवितृसूनुस्तत्रतत्कर्मकृत्वापवनगतिरनीकंप्राविशत्ससम्प्रहृष्टः । रघुवरनृपसूनोद्वर्धयन्युद्धहर्षंतरुमृगगणमुख्यैःपूज्यमानोहरीन्द्रः ।।6.40.30।।

Translation

सवितृसूनुः son of Sun god, सः that Sugriva, तत्र there, तत् कर्म that feat, कृत्वा having done, रघुवरनृपसूनोः foremost of the Raghu's, युद्धहर्षम् the joy of combat, वर्धयन् increasing, तरुमृगगणमुख्यैः adored by the foremost monkey chiefs, पूज्यमानः adored, सम्प्रहृष्टः rejoiced, पवनगतिः wind speed, अनीकम् now, प्राविशत् entered.

Meaning

Sugriva the son of the Sun god, having completed the feat, rejoiced by increasing the joy of foremost of Raghus. Then he who is adored by the monkey chiefs entered the army of Vanaras. ।। इत्यार्षेवाल्मीकीयेश्रीमद्रामायणेआदिकाव्येयुद्धकाण्डेचत्वारिंशस्सर्गः ।। This is the end of the fortieth sarga of Yuddha Kanda of the first epic the holy Ramayana composed by sage Valmiki.
