इतिप्रतिसमादिष्टोहनूमान्मारुतात्मजः । प्रविवेशपुरींलङ्कांपूज्यमानोनिशाचरैः ।।6.116.1।।

इति thus, प्रतिसमादिष्टः commanded, मारुतात्मजः son of Maruti, हनुमान् Hanuman, निशाचरैः night ranger, पूज्यमानः offered prayers, लङ्कांपुरीम् into Lanka, प्रविवेश entered

Meaning

Having been commanded, Hanuman offered prayers to Vibheeshana and entered Lanka.

प्रविश्य चपुरींलङ्कांपूज्यमानोनिशाचारै: । ततस्तेनाभ्युनुज्ञातोहनुमान्वृक्षवाटिकाम् ।।6.116.2।। सम्प्रविश्ययथान्यायंसीतायाद्विितोहरिः । ददर्शमृजयाहीनांसातङ्कांरोहिणीमिव ।।6.116.3।। वृक्षमूलेनिरानन्दांराक्षसीभिःपरीवृताम् । निभृतःप्रणतःप्रह्वस्सोऽभिगम्याभिवाद्य च ।।6.116.4।।

praviśya capurīṃlaṅkāṃpūjyamānoniśācārai: | tatastenābhyunujñātohanumānvṛkṣavāṭikām ||6.116.2|| sampraviśyayathānyāyṃsītāyādviitohariḥ | dadarśamṛjayāhīnāṃsātaṅkāṃrohiṇīmiva ||6.116.3|| vṛkṣamūlenirānandāṃrākṣasībhiḥparīvṛtām | nibhṛtḥpraṇatḥprahvasso'bhigamyābhivādya ca ||6.116.4||

Translation

सीतायाः Sita, विदितः knew, हरिः monkey, सः he, हनूमान् Hanuman, लङ्कांपुरीम् Lanka city, प्रविश्य entered, निशाचरै: through Rakshasas, पूज्यमान: offered prayers, ततः then, तेन, अभ्युनुज्ञातः attracted the notice, वृक्षवाटिकाम् Ashoka grove, यथान्यायम् duly, सम्प्रविश्य entering, मृजया to clean, हीनाम् weak, सातङ्काम् with no bath, रोहिणीमिव like Rohini star, निरानन्दाम् cheerless, राक्षसीभिः Rakshasas also, परीवृताम् surrounded, वृक्षमूले at the foot of the tree, ददर्शसः he saw, अभिगम्य after reaching, अभिवाद्य च greeted, प्रणतः with folded palms, प्रह्वः stood, निभृतः motionless

Meaning

The monkey, having sought the permission of Vibheeshana, entered Lanka city. Duly entering the Asoka grove, he attracted the attention of Sita, who was weak with no bath, cheerless, seated at the root of the tree, like Rohini star. After reaching the grove, he greeted Sita with folded palms and stood motionless.

दृष्टवासमागतंदेवीहनूमन्तंमहाबलम् । तूष्णीमास्ततदादृष्टवास्मृत्वासृष्टाभवत्तदा ।।6.116.5।।

dṛṣṭavāsamāgatṃdevīhanūmantṃmahābalam | tūṣṇīmāstatadādṛṣṭavāsmṛtvāsṛṣṭābhavattadā ||6.116.5||

देवी Devi, तदा then, समागतम् arrived, महाबलम् mighty, हनूमन्तम् Hanuman, दृष्टवा seeing, तूष्णीम् quiet, अस्त first, तदा then, दृष्टवा seeing, स्मृत्वा recognizing, हृष्टा joy, अभवत् experienced

Seeing the mighty Hanuman, who arrived quietly, she was quiet. Then she saw him and experienced joy on recognizing him

YK-116-6Yuddha Kanda 116.6

सौम्यंतस्यामुखंदृष्टवाहनुमान्प्लवगोत्तमः । रामस्यवचनंसर्वमाख्यातुमुपचक्रमे ।।6.116.6।।

saumyṃtasyāmukhṃdṛṣṭavāhanumānplavagottamḥ | rāmasyavacanṃsarvamākhyātumupacakrame ||6.116.6||

Translation

प्लवगोत्तमः foremost monkey, हनूमान् Hanuman, सौम्यम् gentle, तस्याः his, मुखम् face, दृष्टवा seeing, रामस्य Rama's, सर्वम् everything, वचनम् words, आख्यातुम् to communicate, उपचक्रमे started

Meaning

Gentle Hanuman, the foremost of the monkeys, seeing her started to communicate every word of Rama.

YK-116-7Yuddha Kanda 116.7

वैदेही कुशलीरामस्सहसुग्रीवलक्ष्मणः । वभीषणसहायश्चहरीणांसहितोबलैः ।।6.116.7।।

vaidehī kuśalīrāmassahasugrīvalakṣmaṇḥ | vabhīṣaṇasahāyaścaharīṇāṃsahitobalaiḥ ||6.116.7||

Translation

वैदेहि Vaidehi, सहसुग्रवलक्ष्मणः and Sugriva, Lakshmana, विभीषणसहायश्च with the help of Vibheeshana, हरीणाम् and monkeys, बलैः army, सहितःaccompanied by, रामःRama, कुशली doing well

Meaning

Hanuman said" O Vaidehi! Sri Rama accompanied by Sugriva and Lakshmana, with the help of Vibheeshana, is doing well."

कुशलंचाहसिद्धार्थोहतशत्रुरिमत्रजित् । विभीषणसहायेनरामेणहरिभिस्सह ।।6.116.8।। निहतोरावणोदेविलक्ष्मणेन च वीर्यवान् ।

kuśalṃcāhasiddhārthohataśatrurimatrajit | vibhīṣaṇasahāyenarāmeṇaharibhissaha ||6.116.8|| nihatorāvaṇodevilakṣmaṇena ca vīryavān |

Translation

अमित्रजित् won the enemy, हतशत्रुः killed enemy, सिद्धार्थः accomplished the purpose, त्वा your, कुशलम् wellbeing, चाह to speak, देवि noble lady, विभीषणसहायेन with the help of Vibheeshana, हरिभिः monkeys also सह also, रामेण by Rama, लक्ष्मणेन Lakshmana, वीर्यवान् valiant, रावणः Ravana, निहतः killed

Meaning

"Noble lady! Sri Rama killed Ravana and won the enemy. He accomplished the purpose with the help of Vibheeshana, the valiant Lakshmana and the monkeys also so to speak. He inquired of your wellbeing."

प्रियमाख्यामितेदेविभूयश्चत्वांसभाजये ।।6.116.9।। तवप्रभावाद्धर्मजेमहान् रामेणसंयुगे । लब्धोऽयंविजयस्सीतेस्वस्थाभवगतज्वरा ।।6.116.10।।

"O noble lady! I am communicating delightful news to you. O Sita, a respectable lady and knowledgeable one, the victory is attained in the combat by the great soul Rama, by virtue of your strength and devotion."

YK-116-11Yuddha Kanda 116.11

रावणश्चहतश्शत्रुर्लङ्कचैववशीकृता । मयाह्यलब्न्दिद्रेणधृतेनतवनिर्जये ।।6.116.11।। प्रतिज्ञैषाविनिस्तीर्णाबद्ध्वासेतुंमहोदधौ ।

rāvaṇaścahataśśatrurlaṅkacaivavaśīkṛtā | mayāhyalabndidreṇadhṛtenatavanirjaye ||6.116.11|| pratijñaiṣāvinistīrṇābaddhvāsetuṃmahodadhau |

Translation

शत्रुः enemy, रावणश्च Ravana, हतः killed, लङ्काचैव in Lanka also, वशीकृता under control, तव your, निर्जये vanquished completely, धृतेन forbearance, अलब्न्दिद्रेण without little sleep, मया by me, महोदधौ on the great ocean, सेतुम् bridge, बद्ध्वा constructed, एषा in that way, प्रतिज्ञा vow, विनिस्तीर्णा extensive

Meaning

'Ravana has been killed, Lanka is under our side vanquished completely. Without any sleep, with forbearance, building an extensive bridge on the great ocean, the vow has been redeemed', is Rama's message to you, said Hanuman.

YK-116-12Yuddha Kanda 116.12

सम्भ्रमश्च न कर्तव्योवर्तन्त्यारावणालये ।।6.116.12।। विभीषणविधेयंहिलङ्कैश्वर्यमिदंकृतम् ।

sambhramaśca na kartavyovartantyārāvaṇālaye ||6.116.12|| vibhīṣaṇavidheyṃhilaṅkaiśvaryamidṃkṛtam |

Translation

रावणालये Ravana's abode, वर्तन्त्या staying, सम्भ्रमः च perturbation, न कर्तव्यः not required, इदम् this, लङ्कैश्वर्यम् Lanka's Lord, विभीषणविधेयम् under Vibheeshana, कृतंहि has become

Meaning

"This Lanka is under Vibheeshana, Lord of Lanka. There is no need for perturbation thinking that you are in Ravana's abode."

YK-116-13Yuddha Kanda 116.13

तदाश्वसिहिविस्रब्धंस्वगृहेपरिवर्तसे ।।6.116.13।। अयंचाभ्येतिसम्हृष्टस्त्वद्धर्शनसमुत्सुकः ।

tadāśvasihivisrabdhṃsvagṛheparivartase ||6.116.13|| ayṃcābhyetisamhṛṣṭastvaddharśanasamutsukḥ |

Translation

तत् therefore, विस्रब्धम् be at ease, अश्वसिहि consoling, स्वगृहे own house, परिवर्तसे encompassed, अयंहि who is, सम्हृष्टः very happy, त्वद्धर्शनसमुत्सुकः eager to see you, अभ्येति favouring

Meaning

"You be at ease, as you are living in your own abode", said Hanuman consoling Sita. 'Vibheeshana, who is very happy, is eager and favouring to see you."

YK-116-14Yuddha Kanda 116.14

एवमुक्तासमुत्पत्यसीताशशिनिभानना ।।6.116.14।। प्रहर्षेणावरुद्धासाव्याहर्तुं न शशाक ह ।

evamuktāsamutpatyasītāśaśinibhānanā ||6.116.14|| praharṣeṇāvaruddhāsāvyāhartuṃ na śaśāka ha |

Translation

एवम् that way, उक्ता having spoken, शशिनिभानना countenance of moon, समुत्पत्य got up, सीता Sita, प्रहर्षेण in joy, अवरुद्धा stopped, व्याहर्तुम् to speak, न शशाकह could not talk naturally.

Meaning

Hanuman having spoken in that way, Sita got up in excessive joy and could not speak naturally.

YK-116-15Yuddha Kanda 116.15

ततोऽब्रवीद्धरिवरःसीतामप्रतिजल्पतीम् ।।6.116.15।। किंत्वंचिन्तयसेदेविकिं च मांनाभिभाषसे ।

tato'bravīddharivarḥsītāmapratijalpatīm ||6.116.15|| kiṃtvṃcintayasedevikiṃ ca māṃnābhibhāṣase |

Translation

ततः then, हरिवरः monkey chief, अप्रतिजल्पतीम् not replying, सीताम् Sita, अब्रवीत् spoke, देवि Devi, त्वम् you, किम् What चिन्तयसे thinking, माम् me, किम् why, नाभिभाषसे not answering

Meaning

Then seeing Sita not answering him, the monkey chief asked her" Why are you not replying. What are you thinking?"

YK-116-16Yuddha Kanda 116.16

एवमुक्ताहनुमतासीताधर्मपथेस्थिता ।।6.116.16।। अब्रवीत्परमप्रीताबाष्पगद्गदयागिरा ।

evamuktāhanumatāsītādharmapathesthitā ||6.116.16|| abravītparamaprītābāṣpagadgadayāgirā |

Translation

हनुमता Hanuman, एवम् in that way, उक्ता spoken, धर्मपथे virtuous, स्थिता stood, सीता Sita, परमप्रीता very delighted, बाष्पगद्गदया voice choked with tears, गिरा speech, अब्रवीत् spoke

Meaning

When Hanuman spoke in that way virtuous Sita was overwhelmed with joy and spoke with a voice choked with tears.

YK-116-17Yuddha Kanda 116.17

प्रियमेतदुपश्रुत्यभर्तुर्विजयसंश्रयम् ।।6.116.17।। प्रहर्षवशमापन्नानिर्वाक्यास्मिक्षणान्तरम् ।

Translation

भर्तुः husband, विजयसंश्रयम् victorious no doubt, एतत् all this, प्रियम् delighting, उपश्रुत्य hearing, प्रहर्षवशम् overcome with delight, आपन्ना having experienced, क्षणान्तरम् for a second, निर्वाक्या not able to speak, अस्मि I am

"No doubt that my husband is victorious is very delightful. Hearing this, I am overcome with delight and am unable to speak for a moment."

YK-116-18Yuddha Kanda 116.18

न हिपश्यामिसदृशंचिन्तयन्तीप्लवङ्गमा ।।6.116.18।। मप्रतियाब्यानकस्येहदातुंप्रत्यभिनन्दनम् ।

na hipaśyāmisadṛśṃcintayantīplavaṅgamā ||6.116.18|| mapratiyābyānakasyehadātuṃpratyabhinandanam |

Translation

प्लवङ्गम monkey, चिन्तयन्ती however I think, इह here, मप्रतियाख्यानकस्य to please you, दातुम् to give, सदृशम् befitting, प्रत्यभिनन्दनम् for this happiness, न पश्यामिहि not able to see

Meaning

"Hanuman! However, I think to give you a befitting gift for this happy news. I am not able to see any."

नहिपश्यामिततसौम्यपृथिव्यामपिवानर ।।6.116.19।। सदृशंयत्प्रियाख्यानेतवदत्त्वाभवेत्सुखम् ।

nahipaśyāmitatasaumyapṛthivyāmapivānara ||6.116.19|| sadṛśṃyatpriyākhyānetavadattvābhavetsukham |

Translation

प्रियाख्यान value of your message, सदृशम् befitting, यत् such, तव to you, दत्त्वा gift, सुखम् happy, भवेत् make you, सदृशम् befitting, किञ्चन anything, पृथिव्याम् on this earth, न हिपश्यामि not able to see

Meaning

"I am not able to see on this earth, a gift befitting the value of your message, which can be given to you to make you happy."

YK-116-20Yuddha Kanda 116.20

हिरण्यंवासुवर्णंवारत्नानिविविधानिच ।।6.116.20।। राज्यंवात्रिषुलोकेषुनैतदर्हतिभाषितम् ।

hiraṇyṃvāsuvarṇṃvāratnānivividhānica ||6.116.20|| rājyṃvātriṣulokeṣunaitadarhatibhāṣitam |

Translation

हिरण्यंवा gold or, सुवर्णंवा silver, विविधानि several, रत्नानि gems, त्रिषुलोकेषु in the three worlds, राज्यंवा kingdom or, एतत् all this, भाषितम् spoken now, नार्हति not equal

"Neither gold or silver or gems, not even kingdom or the three worlds are equal to what you have spoken now."

एवमुक्तस्तुवैदेह्याप्रत्युवाचप्लवङ्गमः ।।6.116.21।। प्रगृहीताञ्जलिर्हर्षासतीतायाःप्रमुखेस्थितः ।

evamuktastuvaidehyāpratyuvācaplavaṅgamḥ ||6.116.21|| pragṛhītāñjalirharṣāsatītāyāḥpramukhesthitḥ |

वैदेह्या by Vaidehi, एवम् in that way, उक्तः having spoken, प्लवङ्गमाः Hanuman, प्रगृहीताञ्जलिः in front with palms closed, सीतायाः Sita, प्रमुखे chief, स्थितः stood, हर्षात् delighted, प्रत्युवाच replied

Spoken in that way by Vaidehi, Hanuman stood with folded palms in front of Sita and replied in delight.

YK-116-22Yuddha Kanda 116.22

भर्तुःप्रियहितेयुक्तेभर्तुर्विजयकाङ्क्षिण: ।।6.116.22।। स्निग्धमेवंविधंवाक्यंत्वमेवार्हस्यनिन्दिते ।

bhartuḥpriyahiteyuktebharturvijayakāṅkṣiṇa: ||6.116.22|| snigdhamevṃvidhṃvākyṃtvamevārhasyanindite |

Translation

भर्तुः husband, प्रियहिते welfare, युक्ते such loving, भर्तुः husband, विजयकाङ्क्षिण: wishing his victory, अनिन्दिते irreproachable, स्निग्धम् loving, एवंविधम् this manner, वाक्यम् words, त्वमेव you alone, अर्हसि can speak

Meaning

"You alone can speak such affectionate words in this manner wishing victory and welfare of your dear husband. You are irreproachable."

YK-116-23Yuddha Kanda 116.23

तवैतद्वचनंसौम्येसारवत् स्निग्धमेव च ।।6.116.23।। रत्नौघाद्विविधाच्चापिदेवराज्याद्विशिष्यते ।

tavaitadvacanṃsaumyesāravat snigdhameva ca ||6.116.23|| ratnaughādvividhāccāpidevarājyādviśiṣyate |

Translation

सौम्ये gentle, तव your, सारवत् meaningful, स्निग्धमेव full of affection, एतत् वचनम् such words, विविधात् many, रत्नौघात् cluster of gems, देवराज्यात् Lord of gods, विशिष्यते higher

"O gentle one! Your meaningful words full of affection are more valuable than clusters of gems or Indra, the Lord of gods."

अर्थतश्चमयाप्राप्तादेवरज्यादयोगुणाः ।।6.116.24।। हतशत्रुंविजयिनंरामंपश्यामिसुस्थितम् ।

arthataścamayāprāptādevarajyādayoguṇāḥ ||6.116.24|| hataśatruṃvijayinṃrāmṃpaśyāmisusthitam |

Translation

हतशत्रुम् enemy killed, विजयिनम् victorious, सुस्थितम् happy, रामम् Rama, पश्यामि see, अर्थतः meaningful, मया by me, देवराज्यादयः rulership of gods, गुणाः virtues, प्राप्ताः attained

Meaning

"Now that the enemy is killed, Rama is happy, which means as if I have attained the rulership of gods."

तस्यतद्वचनंश्रुत्वामैथिलीजनकात्मजा ।।6.116.25।। ततःशुभतरंवाक्यमुवाचपवनात्मजम् ।

tasyatadvacanṃśrutvāmaithilījanakātmajā ||6.116.25|| tatḥśubhatarṃvākyamuvācapavanātmajam |

जनकात्मजा Janaka's daughter, मैथिली Mythili, तस्य her, तत् those, वचनम् words, श्रुत्वा hearing, ततः that, पवनात्मजम् son of wind god, शुभतरम् auspicious, वाक्यम् words, उवाच spoke

Hearing the words of Mythili, daughter of Janaka, Hanuman spoke these auspicious words.

अतिलक्षणसम्पन्नंमाधुर्यगुणभूषितम् ।।6.116.26।। बुद्ध्याह्यष्टाङ्गयायुक्तंत्वमेवार्हसिभाषितुम् ।

atilakṣaṇasampannṃmādhuryaguṇabhūṣitam ||6.116.26|| buddhyāhyaṣṭāṅgayāyuktṃtvamevārhasibhāṣitum |

Translation

अतिलक्षणसम्पन्नम् rich and full of virtuous qualities, माधुर्यगुणभूषितम् sweet and valuable, अष्टाङ्गया eight excellences, बुद्ध्या intellect, युक्तम् combined with, भाषितुम् language, त्वमेव always, अर्हसि you deserve

Meaning

Continuing to pay tribute to Hanuman's words, Sita said" Your language and expression are always richly endowed with virtuous qualities, sweet and valuable, combined with eight excellences. (Eight excellences areKeenness to hear discourses, readiness to hear discourses, receptivity, retentive power, reasoning for a proposition, against a proposition, faculty of comprehension, realization of truth)."

श्लाघनीयोऽनिलस्यत्वंसुतःपरमधार्मिकः ।।6.116.27।। बलंशौर्यंश्रुतंसत्त्वंविक्रमोदाक्ष्यमुत्तमम् । तेजःक्षमाधृतिस्स्थैर्यंविनीतत्वं न संशयः ।।6.116.28।। एतेचान्ये च बहवोगुणास्त्वय्येवशोभनाः ।

ślāghanīyo'nilasyatvṃsutḥparamadhārmikḥ ||6.116.27|| balṃśauryṃśrutṃsattvṃvikramodākṣyamuttamam | tejḥkṣamādhṛtissthairyṃvinītatvṃ na sṃśayḥ ||6.116.28|| etecānye ca bahavoguṇāstvayyevaśobhanāḥ |

अनिलस्य wind god's, श्लाघनीयः praise worthy, सुतः son, त्वम् you are, परमधार्मिकः very righteous, बलम् strength, शौर्यम् valour, श्रुतम् vigour, सत्त्वम् prowess, विक्रमः skill, उत्तमम् excellent, तेजः energy, क्षमा tolerance, धृतिः forbearance, स्थैर्यम् firmness, विनीतत्वम् humility, एते these, अन्ये other, बहवः many, शोभनाः brilliance, गुणाः qualities, त्वय्येव in you alone, संशयः doubt, न no

"You are a praiseworthy son of wind god. In strength, righteousness, valour, vigour, prowess, skill, you are excellent. You are energetic, endowed with tolerance, forbearance, firmness, brilliance, and humility. You alone have many more qualities, no doubt."

अथोवाचपुनस्सीतामसम्भ्रान्तोविनीतवत् ।।6.116.29।। प्रगृहीताञ्चलिर्हर्षात्सीतायाःप्रमुखेस्थितः ।

athovācapunassītāmasambhrāntovinītavat ||6.116.29|| pragṛhītāñcalirharṣātsītāyāḥpramukhesthitḥ |

अथ now, प्रगृहीताञ्जलिः with palms folded offering prayers, सीतायाः to Sita, पुरतः to city, स्थितः stood, असम्भ्रान्तः without any perturbation, विनीतवत् with all humility, पुनः again, सीताम् Sita, उवाच spoke

Meaning

Now with folded palms offering prayers to Sita, Hanuman stood without perturbation, with all humility and again spoke to Sita.

इमास्तुखलुराक्षस्योयदित्वमनुमन्यसे ।।6.116.30।। हन्तुमिच्छामितास्सर्वायाभिस्त्वंतर्जितापुरा ।

imāstukhalurākṣasyoyaditvamanumanyase ||6.116.30|| hantumicchāmitāssarvāyābhistvṃtarjitāpurā |

इमाः these, पुरा in the past, त्वम् you, याभिः whoever, तर्जिताः threatened, राक्षस्यः Rakshasas, खलु indeed, त्वम् you, अनुमन्यसेयदि intimidated, ताःसर्वाः all those, हन्तुम् to kill, इच्छामि I desire

"I desire to kill all those Rakshasas who in the past have intimidated you indeed and whoever threatened you."

देवि Devi, क्लिश्यन्तीम् tormented, पतिदेवाम् husband, अशोकवनिकाम् in Asoka grove, गताम् earlier, त्वाम् you, घोररूपसमाचाराः of fierce form, क्रूराः cruel, क्रूरतरेक्षणाः of terrible eyes, विकृताननाः distorted forms, राक्षस्यः Rakshasas, रावणाज्ञया by Ravana's order, असकृत्प hideous conduct, परुषैः harshly, वाक्यैः words, र्वद्नत्यः addressing, इह here, मया by me, श्रुताः heard

Meaning

"O Devi! You, who were so devoted to your husband, were tormented in Asoka grove earlier. These cruel Rakshasas of hideous conduct, of fierce and distorted forms with terrible eyes addressing you in harsh words by Ravana's order, were heard by me."

YK-116-33-34Yuddha Kanda 116.33–34 (युग्मम्)

विकृताविकृताकाराःक्रूराःक्रूरकचेक्षणाः ।।6.116.33।। इच्छामिविविधैराघतैर्हन्तुमेतास्सुदारुणाः । राक्षस्योदारुणकथावरमेतत्प्रयच्छमे ।।6.116.34।।

विकृताः distorted, विकृताकाराः distorted forms, क्रूराः cruel, क्रूरकचेक्षणाः fierce eyes and terrible hair, सुदारुणाः terrific, दारुणकथाः not to mention, how violent, एताः these, राक्षस्यः Rakshasas, विविधैः several, घातैः strokes, हन्तुम् to kill, इच्चामि desire, मे I, एतत् all kinds, वरम् description, प्रयच्छ permit

Meaning

"I wish to kill by all kinds of strokes, these cruel distorted forms of Rakshasas having terrible hair and fierce eyes and not to mention their violence. Permit me."

YK-116-35-37Yuddha Kanda 116.35–37 (त्रिकम्)

मुष्टिभिःपर्षिणघातैश्चविशालैश्चैवबाहुभिः । जङ्घाजानुप्रहारैश्चदन्तानांचैवपीडनैः ।।6.116.35।। भक्षणैःकर्णनासानांकेशानांलुञ्चनैस्तथा । भृशंशुष्कमुखैश्चैवदारणैर्लङ्घनैर्हतैः ।।6.116.36।। विभिन्नशङ्कुग्रीवांशपार्श्वकैश्चकलेवरैः । निपात्यहन्तुमिच्छामितवविप्रियकारिणीः ।।6.116.37।।

तव your, विप्रियकारिणी who have wronged to you, मुष्टिभिःfists, पाणिघातैश्च hit with feet, विशालैःspreading, बाहुभिःarms, जङ्घाजानुप्रहारैश्च with blows of shanks and knees, दन्तानाम् with teeth, पीडनैः tormenting, कर्णनासानाम् pulling out ears and nose, धक्षणैःgrant, तथा this, केशानाम् hair, लुञ्चनैःtearing off, भृशम् violently, शुष्कमुखैःचैव making their faces dry, दारणैः dreadful, लङ्घनैः throw uptoss, हतैः kill, विभिन्नशङ्कुग्रीवांसपार्श्वकैः tear with different sharp conches, कलेवरैः bodies broken necks, trunks, and heads, निपात्य throwing down, हन्तुम् kill, इच्छामि wish to do

Meaning

"These Rakshasas who have wronged, who are of dreadful appearance, I wish to hit them with fists, with feet spreading long arms, strike with blows of shanks and knees, with teeth, and torment by pulling their ears and nose. Their hair will be torn off violently, their faces will be made dry, they will be tossed up, torn with different sharp conches. Their broken bodies, heads, necks, and trunks will be thrown down and killed. Grant this boon to me."

YK-116-38Yuddha Kanda 116.38

एवंप्रहारैर्बहुभिःसंप्प्रहार्ययशस्विनि । घातयेतीव्ररूपाभिर्याभिस्त्वंतर्जितापुरा ।।6.116.38।।

evṃprahārairbahubhiḥsṃpprahāryayaśasvini | ghātayetīvrarūpābhiryābhistvṃtarjitāpurā ||6.116.38||

Translation

यशस्विनी illustrious lady, पुरा past, त्वम् you, तीव्ररूपाभिः terrible form, याभिः you too, तर्जिता threatened, एवम् in that way, बहुभिः many, प्रहारैः beating, सम्प्रहार्य striking, घातये destroy

Meaning

"O Illustrious lady! I would like to kill the terrible forms of ogres who threatened you, in that way, I will be at and strike in many ways and destroy them", said Hanuman to Sita.

YK-116-39Yuddha Kanda 116.39

इत्युक्तासाहनुमताकृपणादीनवत्सला । हनूमन्तमुवाचेदंचिन्तयित्वाविमृश्य च ।।6.116.39।।

ityuktāsāhanumatākṛpaṇādīnavatsalā | hanūmantamuvācedṃcintayitvāvimṛśya ca ||6.116.39||

Translation

इति thus, हनुमता Hanuman, उक्ता having said, दीनवत्सला who was fond of the desperate, कृपणा kindly, सा to him, चिन्तयित्वा thinking, विमृश्य च pondering, हनुमन्तम् to Hanuman, इदम् thus, उवाच spoke

Meaning

Hanuman having spoken like that, Sita who was fond of the desperate, thus spoke to Hanuman thinking for a while.

YK-116-40Yuddha Kanda 116.40

राजसंश्रयवश्यानांकुर्वतीनांपराज्ञया । विधेयानां च दासीनांकःकुप्यद्वानरोत्तम ।।6.116.40।।

rājasṃśrayavaśyānāṃkurvatīnāṃparājñayā | vidheyānāṃ ca dāsīnāṃkḥkupyadvānarottama ||6.116.40||

Translation

वानरोत्तम foremost of Vanaras, राजसंश्रयवश्यानाम् being under the service of the king, पराज्ञया others command, कुर्वतीनाम् did as per his orders, विधेयानाम् obedient to, दासीनाम् maids, कः who, कुप्येत् will be angry

Meaning

"Foremost of Vanaras! Who will be angry? Being under the command of the king and being obedient maids, they did so according to king's order.

YK-116-41Yuddha Kanda 116.41

भाग्यवैषम्यदोषेणपुरस्ताद्धुष्कृतेन च । मयैतत्प्राप्यसर्वंस्वकृतंह्युपभुज्यते ।।6.116.41।।

bhāgyavaiṣamyadoṣeṇapurastāddhuṣkṛtena ca | mayaitatprāpyasarvṃsvakṛtṃhyupabhujyate ||6.116.41||

Translation

भाग्यवैषम्यदेषेण adversary effect of my fate, पुरस्तात् reaped, दुष्कृतेन my own fault, मया by me, एतत् all this, सर्वम् everything, प्राप्यते happened, स्वकृतम् by my own deed, उपभुज्यतेहि have to experience the result

YK-116-42Yuddha Kanda 116.42

मैवंवदमहाबाहो दैवेह्येषापरागतिः । प्राप्तव्यंतुदशायोगान्मयैतदितिनिश्चितम् ।।6.116.42।। दासीनांरावणस्याहंमर्षयामीहदुर्बला ।

maivṃvadamahābāho daivehyeṣāparāgatiḥ | prāptavyṃtudaśāyogānmayaitaditiniścitam ||6.116.42|| dāsīnāṃrāvaṇasyāhṃmarṣayāmīhadurbalā |

Translation

महाबाहो mighty armed, एवम् in this way, मावद do not speak, एषा in that way, दैवी divine, परा is supreme, गतिःहि fate, मया by me, दशयोगात् because of my predetermined circumstances, इदम् thus, प्राप्तव्यम् result, इति this, निश्चितम् surely, दुर्बला feeblehearted, अहम् I, इह here, रावणस्य Ravana's, दासीनाम् maid, मर्षयामि condone

Meaning

"Mighty Armed Hanuman! Do not speak in this manner. It was my fate which was supreme. Because of my predetermined circumstances I reaped such a result. I am feeblehearted and condone the maids surely."

YK-116-43Yuddha Kanda 116.43

आज्ञप्ताराक्षसेनेहराक्षस्यस्तर्जयन्तिमाम् ।।6.116.43।। हतेतस्मिन्नकुर्वन्तितर्जनंमारुतात्मज ।

ājñaptārākṣaseneharākṣasyastarjayantimām ||6.116.43|| hatetasminnakurvantitarjanṃmārutātmaja |

Translation

मारुतात्मज Maruti's son, इह here, राक्षसेन by Rakshasa, आज्ञप्ताः order, राक्षस्यः rakshsas, माम् me, तर्जयन्ति threatened, तस्मिन् with his, हते death, तर्जनम् threaten, न कुर्वन्ति not to be done

Meaning

"By Ravana's order they threatened me so. Now with his death, they will not be threatening me."

YK-116-44Yuddha Kanda 116.44

अयंव्याघ्रसमीपेतुपुराणोधर्मसंहितः ।।6.116.44।। ऋक्षेणगीतःश्लोकोऽस्तितंनिबोधप्लवङ्गम ।

ayṃvyāghrasamīpetupurāṇodharmasṃhitḥ ||6.116.44|| ṛkṣeṇagītḥśloko'stitṃnibodhaplavaṅgama |

Translation

प्लवङ्गम monkey, व्याघ्रसमीपे by the side of tiger, ऋक्षेण by a bear, गीतः verse, पुराणः old saying, धर्मसंहितः conformed with righteousness, श्लोकः verse, अस्ति now, तम् you, निबोध tell

Meaning

"O Monkey! In olden days a bear had uttered a verse which conforms to righteousness. I shall tell you now."

YK-116-45Yuddha Kanda 116.45

न पर: पापमादत्तेपरेषांपापकर्मणाम् ।।6.116.45।। समयोरक्षितव्यस्तुसप्तश्चारित्रभूषणाः ।

na para: pāpamādattepareṣāṃpāpakarmaṇām ||6.116.45|| samayorakṣitavyastusaptaścāritrabhūṣaṇāḥ |

Translation

परेषाम् wise man, पापकर्मणाम् sinful actions, परः of enemy, पापम् offence, नादत्ते not say, समयःwhen time comes, रक्षितव्यःतु will protect, सन्तः always, चारित्रभूषणाः virtuous say 'good conduct as ornament '

YK-116-46Yuddha Kanda 116.46

पापानांवाशुभानांवावधार्हाणांप्लवङ्गम ।।6.116.46।। कार्यंकरुण्यमार्येण न कश्चिन्नापराध्यति ।

pāpānāṃvāśubhānāṃvāvadhārhāṇāṃplavaṅgama ||6.116.46|| kāryṃkaruṇyamāryeṇa na kaścinnāparādhyati |

Translation

पापनांवा sinners, शुभानांवा or noble, प्लवङ्गम monkey, वधार्हाणाम् those who deserve death, आर्येण by noble souls, कारुण्यम् compassion, कार्यम् action, कश्चित् indeed, नापराध्यतिइति न none commits harm

Meaning

"Sinners or noble men, having done a wrong deed and deserve death. Also noble, will show compassion and not commit harm."

YK-116-47Yuddha Kanda 116.47

लोकहिंसाविहाराणांरक्षसांकामरूपिणाम् ।।6.116.47।। कुर्वतामपिपापानिनैवकार्यमशोभनम् ।

lokahiṃsāvihārāṇāṃrakṣasāṃkāmarūpiṇām ||6.116.47|| kurvatāmapipāpāninaivakāryamaśobhanam |

Translation

लोकहिंसाविहाराणाम् who do cruel deeds in the world, रक्षसाम् Rakshasas, कामरूपिणाम् who assume form according their will, पापानि sinful, कुर्वतामपि even if they do sinful actions, अशोभम् sins, कार्यम् actions, न कार्यम् not to be done

Meaning

"Rakshasas by nature are cruel in their deeds and can assume any form according to their will. No sinful actions to be done even if they do sinful actions."

YK-116-48Yuddha Kanda 116.48

एवमुक्तस्तुहनुमान् सीतयावाक्यकोविदः ।।6.116.48।। प्रत्युवाचततस्सीतांरामपत्नीयशश्विनीम् ।

evamuktastuhanumān sītayāvākyakovidḥ ||6.116.48|| pratyuvācatatassītāṃrāmapatnīyaśaśvinīm |

Translation

सीतया by Sita, एवम् in this way, उक्तःhaving spoken, वाक्यकोविदःone who is good at expression, हनुमान् Hanuman, ततः then, रामपत्नीम् Rama's consort, यशश्विनीम्irreproachable one, सीताम् to Sita, प्रत्युवाच replied as follows

Meaning

Sita, having spoken that way to Hanuman, he, who was capable of good expression, replied as follows to Rama's consort, who was irreproachable.

YK-116-49Yuddha Kanda 116.49

युक्तारामस्यभवतीधर्मपत्नीयशश्विनी ।।6.116.49।। प्रतिसन्दिशमांदेवि गमिष्येयत्रराघवः ।

yuktārāmasyabhavatīdharmapatnīyaśaśvinī ||6.116.49|| pratisandiśamāṃdevi gamiṣyeyatrarāghavḥ |

Translation

देवि Devi, यशश्विनी famous, भवती you are, रामस्यto Rama, युक्ता right, धर्मपत्नी righteous wife, माम् to me, प्रतिसन्दिश message in return, राघवःRaghava, यत्र there, गमिष्ये will go

Meaning

"Devi! you are the righteous wife of Rama and earned fame. Give me the right message to Rama in return. I will go."

YK-116-50Yuddha Kanda 116.50

एवमुक्ताहनुमतावैदेहिजनकात्मजा ।।6.116.50।। साब्रवीद्ध्रष्टुमिच्छामिभर्तारंवानरोत्तम ।

Translation

हनुमताHanuman, एवम् in that way, उक्ता spoken, जनकात्मजा by Janaka's daughter, सा she, वैदेहिVaidehi, अब्रवीत् said, वानरोत्तम foremost of Vanaras, भर्तारम्to my husband, द्रष्टुम् to see, इच्छामि I desire

Hanuman, having spoken that way to Vaidehi, daughter of Janaka, she said" I desire to see my husband."

तस्यास्तद्वचनंश्रुत्वाहनुमान्पवनात्मजः ।।6.116.51।। हर्षयन्मैथिलींवाक्यमुवाचेदंमहामतिः ।

tasyāstadvacanṃśrutvāhanumānpavanātmajḥ ||6.116.51|| harṣayanmaithilīṃvākyamuvācedṃmahāmatiḥ |

Translation

मारुतात्मजःMaruti's son, महामतिः wise, हनुमान् Hanuman, तस्याःhis, तत् those, वचनम् words, श्रुत्वा hearing, मैथिलीम् Mythili, हर्षयन् joy, इदंवाक्यम् these words, उवाच spoke.

Meaning

On hearing Mythili, wise Hanuman spoke these words to her bringing joy to her.

पूर्णचन्द्राननंरामंद्रक्ष्यस्यार्येसलक्ष्मणम् ।।6.116.52।। स्थिरमित्रंहतामित्रंशचीवत्रिदशेश्वरम् ।

pūrṇacandrānanṃrāmṃdrakṣyasyāryesalakṣmaṇam ||6.116.52|| sthiramitrṃhatāmitrṃśacīvatridaśeśvaram |

Translation

पूर्णचन्द्रमुखम् countenance resembles moon, सलक्ष्मणम् with Lakshmana, स्थिरमित्रम् with friends who are alive, हतामित्रम् whose enemies are gone, रामम् Rama, शची Sachi, त्रिदशेश्वरम् इव like Indra the Lord of gods, अद्य now, द्रक्ष्यसि will see

Meaning

"Now you will see Sri Rama whose countenance resembles the moon, with Lakshmana, with friends who are alive, with friends whose enemies are gone, just as Sachi, the consort of Indra, the Lord of gods saw."

YK-116-53Yuddha Kanda 116.53

तामेवमुक्त्वाराजन्तींसीतांसाक्षादिवश्रियम् ।।6.116.53।। आजगाममहावेगोहनूमान्यत्रराघवः ।

tāmevamuktvārājantīṃsītāṃsākṣādivaśriyam ||6.116.53|| ājagāmamahāvegohanūmānyatrarāghavḥ |

Translation

महावेगो endowed with extraordinary speed, हनूमान् Hanuman, साक्षात् as it is, श्रियमिव like goddess Lakshmi, राजन्तीम् shining, ताम् him, एवम् in that way, उक्त्वा having spoken, राघवःRaghava, यत्र there, आजगाम reached

Meaning

Hanuman reached Raghava with extraordinary speed assuring Sita, who shone like Lakshmi, goddess of prosperity, and had spoken like that.
