SK-62-1Sundara Kanda 62.1

तानुवाच हरिश्रेष्ठो हनुमान्वानरर्षभः। अव्यग्रमनसो यूयं मधु सेवत वानराः।।5.62.1।। अहमावारयिष्यामि युष्माकं परिपन्थिनः।

tānuvāca hariśreṣṭho hanumānvānararṣabhḥ| avyagramanaso yūyṃ madhu sevata vānarāḥ||5.62.1|| ahamāvārayiṣyāmi yuṣmākṃ paripanthinḥ|

Translation

हरिश्रेष्ठः foremost of the monkeys, वानरर्षभः bull among vanaras, हनुमान् Hanuman, तान् them, उवाच spoke, वानराः vanaras, यूयम् looking at, अव्यग्रमनसः devoid of any fear in your mind, मधु honey, सेवत take, अहम् I, युष्माकम् those, परिपन्थिनः who object to your action, अवायिष्यामि will prevent.

Meaning

Hanuman, the foremost of the monkeys, bull among vanaras said, 'Enjoy the honey devoid of any fear. I shall prevent those who object to your action'.

SK-62-2Sundara Kanda 62.2

श्रुत्वा हनुमतो वाक्यं हरीणां प्रवरोऽङ्गदः।।5.62.2।। प्रत्युवाच प्रसन्नात्मा पिबन्तु हरयो मधु।

śrutvā hanumato vākyṃ harīṇāṃ pravaro'ṅgadḥ||5.62.2|| pratyuvāca prasannātmā pibantu harayo madhu|

Translation

हनुमतः Hanuman, वाक्यम् these words, श्रुत्वा hearing, हरीणाम् to the monkeys, प्रवरः distinguished, अङ्गदः Angada, प्रसन्नात्मा very pleased, प्रत्युवाच replied, हरयः vanaras, पिबन्तु you may drink.

Meaning

Pleased with Hanuman's words, the distinguished Angada permitted the monkeys to drink.

SK-62-3Sundara Kanda 62.3

अवश्यं कृतकार्यस्य वाक्यं हनुमतो मया।।5.62.3।। अकार्यमपि कर्तव्यं किमङ्ग पुनरीदृशम्।

avaśyṃ kṛtakāryasya vākyṃ hanumato mayā||5.62.3|| akāryamapi kartavyṃ kimaṅga punarīdṛśam|

Translation

कृतकार्यस्य one who has accomplished the task, हनुमतः Hanuman, वाक्यम् these words, अकार्यमपि tells not to do, मया by me, अवश्यम् surely, कर्तव्यम् what is to be done, ईदृशं पुनः when he has spoken again, किमङ्ग what to say?

Meaning

Even if Hanuman, the achiever, forbids me to do something, I will do it. And now when he has permitted you, why hesitate ?

SK-62-4Sundara Kanda 62.4

अङ्गदस्य मुखाच्छ्रुत्वावचनं वानरर्षभाः।।5.62.4।। साधुसाध्विति संहृष्टा वानराः प्रत्यपूजयन्।

aṅgadasya mukhācchrutvāvacanṃ vānararṣabhāḥ||5.62.4|| sādhusādhviti sṃhṛṣṭā vānarāḥ pratyapūjayan|

Translation

वानरर्षभाः bulls among vanaras, वानराः vanaras, अङ्गदस्य Angada's, मुखात् from the mouth, वचः spoken, श्रुत्वा having heard, संहृष्टाः very happy, साधु साध्विति good words, प्रत्यपूजयन् praised.

Meaning

Having heard the words that came from Angada's mouth, the bulls among vanaras praised him for his generous approval.

SK-62-5Sundara Kanda 62.5

पूजयित्वाङ्गदं सर्वे वानरा वानरर्षभम्।।5.62.5।। जग्मुर्मधुवनं यत्र नदीवेग इव द्रुमम्।

pūjayitvāṅgadṃ sarve vānarā vānararṣabham||5.62.5|| jagmurmadhuvanṃ yatra nadīvega iva drumam|

Translation

सर्वे all, वानरा vanaras, वानरर्षभम् to bull among vanaras, अङ्गदम् to Angada, पूजयित्वा having praised, मधुवनम् Madhuvanam, यत्र there, नदीवेगः fast flowing river, द्रुमम् इव like tree, जग्मुः went.

Meaning

The vanaras praised Angada, the bull among vanaras and went to Madhuvanam swiftly like a fastflowing river going to uproot a tree.

SK-62-6-7Sundara Kanda 62.6–7 (युग्मम्)

ते प्रविष्टा मधुवनं पालानाक्रम्य वीर्यतः।।5.62.6।। अतिसर्गाच्च पटवो दृष्ट्वा श्रुत्वा च मैथिलीम्। पपुस्सर्वे मधु तदा रसवत्फलमाददुः।।5.62.7।।

te praviṣṭā madhuvanṃ pālānākramya vīryatḥ||5.62.6|| atisargācca paṭavo dṛṣṭvā śrutvā ca maithilīm| papussarve madhu tadā rasavatphalamādaduḥ||5.62.7||

Translation

मैथिलीम् Mythili, दृष्ट्वा having seen, श्रुत्वा heard, अतिसर्गाच्च overjoyed with success, मधुवनम् Madhuvanam, प्रविष्टाः entered, पालान् guards, वीर्यतः violently, आक्रम्य attacked, तदा then, मधु Madhu, पपुः drank, रसवत् tasty, फलम् fruits, आददु: ate.

Meaning

Overjoyed at the news of Mythili, being seen, the vanaras entered Madhuvanam and attacked the guards violently, drank the honey and ate the tasty fruits.

SK-62-8Sundara Kanda 62.8

उत्पत्य च ततस्सर्वे वनपालान् समागतान्। ताडयन्ति स्म शतश स्सक्तान्मधुवने तदा।।5.62.8।।

utpatya ca tatassarve vanapālān samāgatān| tāḍayanti sma śataśa ssaktānmadhuvane tadā||5.62.8||

Translation

तदा then, सर्वे all, मधुवने in Madhuvanam, शतशः in many ways, सक्तान् vanaras, समागतान् came together, वनपालान् guards protecting the garden, उत्पत्य risen up, ततः then, ताडयन्ति स्म struck.

Meaning

All the vanaras collected together, entered the Madhuvanam and attacked in many ways the guards protecting the garden.

SK-62-9Sundara Kanda 62.9

मधूनि द्रोणमात्राणि बाहुभिः परिगृह्य ते। पिबन्ति सहिता स्सर्वे निघ्नन्ति स्म तथापरे।।5.62.9।।

madhūni droṇamātrāṇi bāhubhiḥ parigṛhya te| pibanti sahitā ssarve nighnanti sma tathāpare||5.62.9||

Translation

ते सर्वे all of them, बाहुभिः many, द्रोणमात्राणि of huge size (large containers made of leather, a drona is a measure of two litres), मधूनि honey, परिगृह्य took hold of, सहिताः together, पिबन्ति drinking, अपरे others, निघ्नन्ति स्म were preventing.

Meaning

All of them now gathered at one place and drank honey from large containers. Others were busy preventing the guards.

SK-62-10Sundara Kanda 62.10

केचित्पीत्वा प्रविध्यन्ति मधूनि मधुपिङ्गलाः। मधूच्छिष्टेन केचिच्च जग्मुरन्योन्यमुत्कटाः।।5.62.10।।

kecitpītvā pravidhyanti madhūni madhupiṅgalāḥ| madhūcchiṣṭena kecicca jagmuranyonyamutkaṭāḥ||5.62.10||

Translation

मधुपिङ्गलाः honeycoloured, केचित् some, मधूनि honey, पीत्वा were drinking, प्रविध्यन्ति throwing, केचिच्च some, मधूच्छिष्ठेन chunks of honey combs, उत्कटाः intoxicated, अन्योन्यम् with each other, जग्मुः went about.

Meaning

The honeycoloured monkeys drank honey. Some threw large chunks of honey combs after drinking and some went about intoxicated.

SK-62-11Sundara Kanda 62.11

अपरे वृक्षमूले तु शाखां गृह्य व्यवस्थिताः। अत्यर्थं च मदग्लानाः पर्णान्यास्तीर्य शेरते।।5.62.11।।

apare vṛkṣamūle tu śākhāṃ gṛhya vyavasthitāḥ| atyarthṃ ca madaglānāḥ parṇānyāstīrya śerate||5.62.11||

Translation

अपरे some others, शाखाम् branches of trees, गृह्य taking, वृक्षमूले at the root of trees, व्यवस्थिताः stayed, अत्यर्थम् on account of drinking, मदग्लानाः sweet drinks, पर्णानि leaves, आस्तीर्य spreading, शेरते lay down.

Meaning

Some took branches of trees and rested at the root of trees. Some totally languid lay down spreading leaves due to drinking of sweet drinks.

SK-62-12Sundara Kanda 62.12

उन्मत्तभूताः प्लवगा मधुमत्ताश्च हृष्टवत्। क्षिपन्ति च तथान्योन्यं स्खलन्ति च तथाऽपरे।।5.62.12।।

unmattabhūtāḥ plavagā madhumattāśca hṛṣṭavat| kṣipanti ca tathānyonyṃ skhalanti ca tathā'pare||5.62.12||

Translation

मधुमत्ताः by drinking of honey, प्लवगाः vanaras, उन्मत्तभूताः like mad people, हृष्टवत् joyfully, अन्योन्यम् each other, क्षिपन्ति pushing each other, अपरे others, स्खलन्ति च were shaking unsteady.

Meaning

Intoxicated with drink, some behaved like mad people, some pushed others senselessly and some were unsteady and shaky.

SK-62-13Sundara Kanda 62.13

केचित् क्ष्वेलां प्रकुर्वन्ति केचित् कूजन्ति हृष्टवत्। हरयोमधुना मत्ताः केचित्सुप्ता महीतले।।5.62.13।।

kecit kṣvelāṃ prakurvanti kecit kūjanti hṛṣṭavat| harayomadhunā mattāḥ kecitsuptā mahītale||5.62.13||

Translation

केचित् some, क्ष्वेलाम् प्रकुर्वन्ति roared, केचित् some, हृष्टवत् happy, कूजन्ति cooing like the birds, मधुना by the drinking of honey, मत्ताः drowsy, केचित् हरयः some vanaras, महीतले on the ground, सुप्ताः slept.

Meaning

Some roared, some warbled happily, some felt drowsy, drinking honey and some dropped off to sleep on the ground.

SK-62-14Sundara Kanda 62.14

कृत्वा केचिद्धसन्त्यन्ये केचित्कुर्वन्ति चेतरत्। कृत्वा केचिद्वदन्त्यन्ये केचिद्बुध्यन्ति चेतरत्।।5.62.14।।

kṛtvā keciddhasantyanye kecitkurvanti cetarat| kṛtvā kecidvadantyanye kecidbudhyanti cetarat||5.62.14||

Translation

केचित् some, कृत्वा having done, हसन्ति laughing, अन्ये others, केचित् some, इतरत् different, कुर्वन्ति doing, केचित् some, कृत्वा having done, वदन्ति were telling others, अन्ये others, केचित् some, इतरत् something else, बुध्यन्ति thought of doing.

Meaning

Some made others laugh, some provoked others and some thought of doing something else having got over the intoxication.

SK-62-15Sundara Kanda 62.15

येऽप्यत्र मधुपाला स्स्युः प्रेष्या दधिमुखस्य तु। तेऽपि तैर्वानरैर्भीमैः प्रतिषिद्धा दिशो गताः।।5.62.15।।

ye'pyatra madhupālā ssyuḥ preṣyā dadhimukhasya tu| te'pi tairvānarairbhīmaiḥ pratiṣiddhā diśo gatāḥ||5.62.15||

Translation

अत्र there, दधिमुखस्य Dadhimukha's, प्रेष्याः engaged, मधुपालाः guards of Madhuvanam, ये those, स्युः to cover, तेऽपि were also, भीमैः fierce, वानरैः vanaras, प्रतिषिद्धाः driven away, दिशः in all directions, गताः went.

Meaning

All the guards engaged in protecting the garden were driven away in all directions by the fierce vanaras.

SK-62-16Sundara Kanda 62.16

जानुभिस्तु प्रकृष्टाश्च देवमार्गं प्रदर्शिताः। अब्रुवन् परमोद्विग्ना गत्वा दधिमुखं वचः।।5.62.16।।

jānubhistu prakṛṣṭāśca devamārgṃ pradarśitāḥ| abruvan paramodvignā gatvā dadhimukhṃ vacḥ||5.62.16||

Translation

जानुभिः knees, प्रकृष्टाः drawn forth, देवमार्गम् towards the path of gods, प्रदर्शिताः exhibiting, परमोद्विग्नाः greatly disturbed, दधिमुखम् to Dadhimukha, गत्वा having gone, वचः these words, अब्रुवन् said.

Meaning

Some were dragged on their knees and tossed up. Some monkeys exhibited their private parts, showing indecent behaviour. Dadhimukha, highly disturbed at this, said:

SK-62-17Sundara Kanda 62.17

हनूमता दत्तवरैर्हतं मधुवनं बलात्। वयं च जानुभिः कृष्टा देवमार्गं च दर्शिताः।।5.62.17।।

hanūmatā dattavarairhatṃ madhuvanṃ balāt| vayṃ ca jānubhiḥ kṛṣṭā devamārgṃ ca darśitāḥ||5.62.17||

Translation

हनूमता Hanuman, दत्तवरैर्हतं by whom they were permitted, वयं च and us, मधुवनं Madhuvanam, जानुभिः knees, बलात् forcefully, कृष्टा holding, देवमार्गं च dragged to the private parts, दर्शिताः and showed.

Meaning

Permitted by Hanuman (to enter Madhuvanam and drink), they dragged one another forcefully tossed up on their knees showing their private parts.

SK-62-18Sundara Kanda 62.18

ततो दधिमुख: क्रुद्धो वनपस्तत्र वानरः। हतं मधुवनं श्रुत्वा सान्त्वयामास तान् हरीन्।।5.62.18।।

tato dadhimukha: kruddho vanapastatra vānarḥ| hatṃ madhuvanṃ śrutvā sāntvayāmāsa tān harīn||5.62.18||

Translation

ततः then, तत्र there, वनपः guardian of the garden, दधिमुख: Dadhimukha, वानर: vanara, क्रुद्धः furious, मधुवनम् Madhuvanam, हतम् destoyed, श्रुत्वा having heard, हरीन् vanaras, सान्त्वयामास with soothing words.

Meaning

Then Dadhimukha, the guardian of the garden became furious on the vanaras. Having heard from the guards that the garden was destroyed, he said soothing words to them.

SK-62-19Sundara Kanda 62.19

इहागच्छत गच्छामो वानरान् बलदर्पितान्। बलेन वारयिष्यामो मधु भक्षयतो वयम्।।5.62.19।।

ihāgacchata gacchāmo vānarān baladarpitān| balena vārayiṣyāmo madhu bhakṣayato vayam||5.62.19||

Translation

इह here, आगच्चत come, गच्चामः will go, वयम् we, बलदर्पितान् proud of their power, मधु Madhu, भक्षयतः consume honey, वानरान् vanaras, बलेन forcibly, वारयिष्यामः will prevent them.

Meaning

"Come, we will all go there to Madhuvanam and prevent forcibly the vanaras who have consumed honey proud of their power.

SK-62-20Sundara Kanda 62.20

श्रुत्वा दधिमुखस्येदं वचनं वानरर्षभाः। पुनर्वीरा मधुवनं तेनैव सहसा ययुः।।5.62.20।।

śrutvā dadhimukhasyedṃ vacanṃ vānararṣabhāḥ| punarvīrā madhuvanṃ tenaiva sahasā yayuḥ||5.62.20||

Translation

वीराः heroes, वानरर्षभाः bull among vanaras, दधिमुखस्य Dadhimukha's, इदम् this kind of, वचनम् words, श्रुत्वा having heard, सहसा quickly, तेनैव along with him, पुनः again, मधुवनम् Madhuvanam, ययुः went.

Meaning

"The heroes, bulls among vanaras, heard Dadhimukha and quickly entered Madhuvanam along with him.

SK-62-21Sundara Kanda 62.21

मध्ये चैषां दधिमुखः प्रगृह्य तरसा तरुम्। समभ्यधावद्वेगेन ते च सर्वे प्लवङ्गमाः।।5.62.21।।

madhye caiṣāṃ dadhimukhḥ pragṛhya tarasā tarum| samabhyadhāvadvegena te ca sarve plavaṅgamāḥ||5.62.21||

Translation

एषाम् their, मध्ये way, दधिमुखः Dadhimukha, तरसा energetic, तरुम् tree, प्रगृह्य taking up, वेगेन swiftly, समभ्यधावत् following, ते they, सर्वे all, प्लवङ्गमाः च the leaping vanaras.

Meaning

On the way, the energetic Dadhimukha took up a tree and ran to the leaping vanaras swiftly with guards following him.

SK-62-22Sundara Kanda 62.22

ते शिलाः पादपांश्चापि पर्वतांश्चापि वानराः। गृहीत्वाऽऽभ्यगमन् क्रुद्धा यत्र ते कपिकुञ्जराः।।5.62.22।।

te śilāḥ pādapāṃścāpi parvatāṃścāpi vānarāḥ| gṛhītvā''bhyagaman kruddhā yatra te kapikuñjarāḥ||5.62.22||

Translation

ते वानराः those vanaras, क्रुद्धाः furious, शिलाः rocks, पादपांश्चापि also trees, पर्वतांश्चापि even mountains, गृहीत्वा took up, ते they, कपिकुञ्जराः elephant of monkeys, यत्र there, अभ्यगमन् went.

Meaning

The furious vanara guards lifted rocks, trees and even mountains and went behind Dadhimukha the elephant among the vanaras.

SK-62-23Sundara Kanda 62.23

ते स्वामिवचनं वीरा हृदयेष्ववसज्य तत्। त्वरया ह्यभ्यधावन्त सालतालशिलायुधाः।।5.62.23।।

te svāmivacanṃ vīrā hṛdayeṣvavasajya tat| tvarayā hyabhyadhāvanta sālatālaśilāyudhāḥ||5.62.23||

Translation

वीराः heroic, ते they, तत् that, स्वामिवचनम् leader's words, हृदयेषु in their heart, अवसज्य rushed, सालतालशिलायुधाः Sala, Tala trees as weapons, त्वरया at once, अभ्यधावन्त ran.

Meaning

The heroic vanaras held Sala and Tala trees and rushed at once keeping their leader's words in mind.

SK-62-24Sundara Kanda 62.24

वृक्षस्थांश्च तलस्थांश्च वानरान् बलदर्पितान्। अभ्यक्रामंस्ततो वीराः पालास्तत्र सहस्रशः।।5.62.24।।

vṛkṣasthāṃśca talasthāṃśca vānarān baladarpitān| abhyakrāmṃstato vīrāḥ pālāstatra sahasraśḥ||5.62.24||

Translation

ततः then, वीराः heroic, पालाः guards, सहस्रशः in thousands, वृक्षस्थांश्च on the trees, तलस्थांश्च under the trees, बलदर्पितान् proud of their power, वानरान् vanaras, अभ्यक्रामन् attacked.

Meaning

Then the heroic guards in their thousands fell on the vanaras proud of their power on and under the tala trees.

SK-62-25Sundara Kanda 62.25

अथ दृष्ट्वा दधिमुखं क्रुद्धं वानरपुङ्गवाः। अभ्यधावन्त वेगेन हनुमत्प्रमुखास्तदा।।5.62.25।।

atha dṛṣṭvā dadhimukhṃ kruddhṃ vānarapuṅgavāḥ| abhyadhāvanta vegena hanumatpramukhāstadā||5.62.25||

Translation

अथ and then, हनुमत्प्रमुखाः leader Hanuman, वानरपुङ्गवाः foremost of vanaras, तदा then, दधिमुखम् Dadhimukha's, क्रुद्धम् fury, दृष्ट्वा having seen, वेगेन swiftly, अभ्यधावन्त went there.

Meaning

Having seen the fury of Dadhimukha, Hanuman the leader of the vanaras went to him swiftly.

SK-62-26Sundara Kanda 62.26

तं सवृक्षं महाबाहुमापतन्तं महाबलम्। आर्यकं प्राहरत्तत्र बाहुभ्यां कुपितोऽङ्गदः।।5.62.26।।

tṃ savṛkṣṃ mahābāhumāpatantṃ mahābalam| āryakṃ prāharattatra bāhubhyāṃ kupito'ṅgadḥ||5.62.26||

Translation

कुपितः angry, अङ्गदः Angada, सवृक्षम् with trees, महाबाहुम् strongarmed, महाबलम् powerful, आपतन्तम् coming, तम् him, आर्यकम् तत्र there, बाहुभ्याम् with both hands, प्राहरत् clasped tightly.

Meaning

Seeing the revered, powerful and strongarmed Dadhimukha rushing to him, the angry Angada caught him with both hands tightly.

SK-62-27Sundara Kanda 62.27

मदान्धश्च न वेदैनमार्यकोऽयं ममेति सः। अथैनं निष्पिपेषाशु वेगवद्वसुधातले।।5.62.27।।

madāndhaśca na vedainamāryako'yṃ mameti sḥ| athainṃ niṣpipeṣāśu vegavadvasudhātale||5.62.27||

Translation

सः he, मदान्धश्च blinded by arrogance, अयम् this, मम my, आर्यकः revered, इति this, एनम् therefore, न वेद not understnding that (I am his granduncle), अथ now, एनम् therefore, वसुधातले on the floor, वेगवत् forcibly, आशु him, निष्पिपेष pushed.

Meaning

"Blinded by arrogance, the prince pushed him (Dadhimukha) on the floor forcibly, forgetting that he was his revered granduncle.

SK-62-28Sundara Kanda 62.28

स भग्नबाहूरुभुजो विह्वलश्शोणितोक्षितः। मुमोह सहसा वीरो मुहूर्तं कपिकुञ्जरः।।5.62.28।।

sa bhagnabāhūrubhujo vihvalaśśoṇitokṣitḥ| mumoha sahasā vīro muhūrtṃ kapikuñjarḥ||5.62.28||

Translation

भग्नबाहूरुभुजः with shoulders and arms broken, विह्वलः battered, शोणितोक्षितः body drenched in blood, सः he, Dadhimukha, वीरः a hero, कपिकुञ्जरः elephant among monkeys, सहसा at once, मुहूर्तम् in a moment, मुमोह lost conciousness.

Meaning

The heroic Dadhimukha, an elephant among monkeys, with his shoulders and arms broken, and body drenched in blood lost his consciousness instantly.

SK-62-29Sundara Kanda 62.29

स समाश्वस्य सहसा सङ्कृद्धो राजमातुलः। वानरान्वारयामास दण्डेन मधुमोहितान्।।5.62.29।।

sa samāśvasya sahasā saṅkṛddho rājamātulḥ| vānarānvārayāmāsa daṇḍena madhumohitān||5.62.29||

Translation

राजमातुलः maternal uncle of the king, सः he, सहसा at once, समाश्वस्य coming out of unconscious state, सङ्कृद्धः furious, मधुमोहितान् deluded by drinking, वानरान् vanaras, दण्डेन with a stick, वारयामास chased.

Meaning

At once Dadhimukha, the maternal uncle of the king became conscious and chased with a stick the intoxicated vanaras.

SK-62-30Sundara Kanda 62.30

स कथञ्चिद्विमुक्तस्स्तैर्वानरैर्वानरर्षभः। उवाचैकान्तमाश्रित्य भृत्यान् स्वान् समुपागतान्।।5.62.30।।

sa kathañcidvimuktasstairvānarairvānararṣabhḥ| uvācaikāntamāśritya bhṛtyān svān samupāgatān||5.62.30||

Translation

तैः they, वानरैः vanaras, कथञ्चित् with great difficulty, विमुक्तः escaped, सः he, Dadhimukha, वानरर्षभः bull among monkeys, एकान्तम् secluded, आश्रित्य reached, समुपागतान् returned, स्वान् them, भृत्यान् servants, उवाच said.

Meaning

Escaping from the vanaras with great difficulty, Dadhimukha, a bull among monkeys, repaired to a secluded place and said to his servants:

SK-62-31Sundara Kanda 62.31

एते तिष्ठन्तु गच्छामो भर्ता नो यत्र वानरः। सुग्रीवो विपुलग्रीवः सह रामेण तिष्ठति।।5.62.31।।

ete tiṣṭhantu gacchāmo bhartā no yatra vānarḥ| sugrīvo vipulagrīvḥ saha rāmeṇa tiṣṭhati||5.62.31||

Translation

एते let them, तिष्ठन्तु stay, नः our, भर्ता king, वानरः vanaras, विपुलग्रीवः one with broad neck, सुग्रीवः Sugriva, यत्र there, रामेण सह with Rama, तिष्ठति will be staying, गच्चामः let us go.

Meaning

SK-62-32Sundara Kanda 62.32

सर्वं चैवाङ्गदे दोषं श्रावयिष्यामि पार्थिवे। अमर्षी वचनं श्रुत्वा घातयिष्यति वानरान्।।5.62.32।।

sarvṃ caivāṅgade doṣṃ śrāvayiṣyāmi pārthive| amarṣī vacanṃ śrutvā ghātayiṣyati vānarān||5.62.32||

Translation

अङ्गदे Angada, सर्वम् all, दोषम् mistakes, पार्थिवे to the king, श्रावयिष्यामि will let him know, वचनम् these words, श्रुत्वा having heard, अमर्षि very furious, वानरान् vanaras, घातयिष्यति will put an end.

SK-62-33Sundara Kanda 62.33

इष्टं मधुवनं ह्येतत्पार्थिवस्य महात्मनः। पितृपैतामहं दिव्यं देवैरपि दुरासदम्।।5.62.33।।

iṣṭṃ madhuvanṃ hyetatpārthivasya mahātmanḥ| pitṛpaitāmahṃ divyṃ devairapi durāsadam||5.62.33||

Translation

पितृपैतामहम् from grandfather and father, दिव्यम् wonderful, देवैरपि even for devatas, दुरासदम् forbidden, एतत् this, मधुवनम् Madhuvanam, महात्मनः great self, पार्थिवस्य to the king, इष्टं हि very dear.

Meaning

'Madhuvan has come down to us from our forefather's time. Dear to the king, its entry is prohibited even to the gods.

SK-62-34Sundara Kanda 62.34

स वानरानिमान् सर्वान् मधुलुब्धान् गतायुषः। घातयिष्यति दण्डेन सुग्रीवस्ससुहृज्जनान्।।5.62.34।।

sa vānarānimān sarvān madhulubdhān gatāyuṣḥ| ghātayiṣyati daṇḍena sugrīvassasuhṛjjanān||5.62.34||

Translation

सः सुग्रीवः that Sugriva, मधुलुब्धान् those greedy for honey, गतायुषः doomed, ससुहृज्जनान् their friends, इमान् these, सर्वान् all, वानरान् vanaras, दण्डेन with a stick, घातयिष्यति will be beaten.

Meaning

'Sugriva will chase all the vanaras and their friends greedy for honey. They will be punished with a stick. They are doomed'.

SK-62-35Sundara Kanda 62.35

वध्या ह्येते दुरात्मानो नृपाज्ञापरिभाविनः। अमर्षप्रभवो रोषस्सफलो नो भविष्यति।।5.62.35।।

vadhyā hyete durātmāno nṛpājñāparibhāvinḥ| amarṣaprabhavo roṣassaphalo no bhaviṣyati||5.62.35||

Translation

नृपाज्ञापरिभाविनः who have disobeyed the king's order, एते they, दुरात्मनः evilminded, वध्याः हि indeed deserve to be killed, अमर्षप्रभवः forbearance king, नः रोषः our fury, सफलः will result in success, भविष्यति will be.

Meaning

'Indeed those evilminded ones who have disobeyed the king's order deserve to be killed.That way our fury and forbearance will result in success'.

SK-62-36Sundara Kanda 62.36

एवमुक्त्वा दधिमुखो वनपालान्महाबलः। जगाम सहसोत्पत्य वनपालैस्समन्वितः।।5.62.36।।

evamuktvā dadhimukho vanapālānmahābalḥ| jagāma sahasotpatya vanapālaissamanvitḥ||5.62.36||

Translation

महाबलः very powerful, दधिमुखः Dadhimukha, वनसालान् garden protectors, एवम् in that way, उक्त्वा having said, सहसा at once, वनपालैः garden guards, समन्वितः along with them, उत्पत्य rising to the sky, जगाम went.

Meaning

Powerful Dadhimukha having said that to the guardians of the garden rose up to the sky and went off with them.

SK-62-37Sundara Kanda 62.37

निमेषान्तरमात्रेण स हि प्राप्तो वनालयः। सहस्रांशुसुतो धीमान् सुग्रीवो यत्र वानरः।।5.62.37।।

nimeṣāntaramātreṇa sa hi prāpto vanālayḥ| sahasrāṃśusuto dhīmān sugrīvo yatra vānarḥ||5.62.37||

Translation

सः he, वनालयः forestdweller, सहस्रांशुसुतः to the son of Sungod, धीमान् wise, सुग्रीवः वानरः to the vanara Sugriva, यत्र there, निमेषान्तरमात्रेण in a moment's time, प्राप्तः reached.

Meaning

In a moment, Dadhimukha reached the place where wise Sugriva, the son of Sungod was there

SK-62-38Sundara Kanda 62.38

रामं च लक्ष्मणं चैव दृष्ट्वा सुग्रीवमेव च। समप्रतिष्ठां जगतीमाकाशान्निपपात ह।।5.62.38।।

rāmṃ ca lakṣmaṇṃ caiva dṛṣṭvā sugrīvameva ca| samapratiṣṭhāṃ jagatīmākāśānnipapāta ha||5.62.38||

Translation

रामं च Rama, लक्ष्मणं चैव and also Lakshmana, सुग्रीवमेव च and also Sugriva, दृष्ट्वा seeing, आकाशात् from the sky, समप्रतिष्ठाम् even, जगतीम् ground, निपपात landed.

Meaning

Seeing Rama, Lakshmana and also Sugriva from the sky he landed on an even ground.

SK-62-39Sundara Kanda 62.39

सन्निपत्य महावीर्यस्सर्वैस्तै: परिवारितः। हरिर्दधिमुखः पालैः पालानां परमेश्वरः।।5.62.39।। स दीनवदनो भूत्वा कृत्वा शिरसि चाञ्जलिम्। सुग्रीवस्य शुभौ मूर्ध्ना चरणौ पत्यपीडयत्।।5.62.40।।

sannipatya mahāvīryassarvaistai: parivāritḥ| harirdadhimukhḥ pālaiḥ pālānāṃ parameśvarḥ||5.62.39|| sa dīnavadano bhūtvā kṛtvā śirasi cāñjalim| sugrīvasya śubhau mūrdhnā caraṇau patyapīḍayat||5.62.40||

Translation

सर्वैः all, तैः पालैः those guards, परिवारितः the servants, पालानाम् king, परमेश्वरः lord, हरिः of monkeys, महावीर्यः great hero, सः दधिमुखः that Dadhimukha, दीनवदनः with a painful expression on the face, शिरसि head bowed down, अञ्जलिम् salutations with folded hands, कृत्वा having offered, सन्निपत्य surrounded by, सुग्रीवस्य Sugriva, शुभे auspicious, चरणौ feet, मूर्ध्ना touching with his forehead, पत्यपीडयत् painful obeisance.

Meaning

Dadhimukha, a great hero and king of the guards protecting Madhuvanam surrounded by his servants, with a sad expression on his face offered painful obeisance with folded hands bowing down his forehead at the feet of Sugriva. इत्यार्षे श्रीमद्रामायणे वाल्मीकीय आदिकाव्ये सुन्दरकाण्डे द्विषष्टितमस्सर्गः।। Thus ends the sixtysecond sarga of Sundarakanda of the holy Ramayana, the first epic composed by sage Valmiki.
