SK-6-1Sundara Kanda 6.1

स निकामं विमानेषु निषण्णः कामरूपधृत्। विचचार पुनर्लङ्कां लाघवेन समन्वितः।।5.6.1।।

sa nikāmṃ vimāneṣu niṣaṇṇḥ kāmarūpadhṛt| vicacāra punarlaṅkāṃ lāghavena samanvitḥ||5.6.1||

Translation

कामरूपधृत् who could assume any form, सः that (Hanuman), विमानेषु in the tall mansions, निकामम् freely, निषण्णः sad, पुनः again, लाघवेन rapidly, समन्वितः endowed with strength, लङ्काम् Lanka, विचचार started ranging

Meaning

The mighty Hanuman, who could assume any form at will, not finding Sita in the tall mansions, again started rapidly ranging in Lanka.

SK-6-2Sundara Kanda 6.2

आससादाथ लक्ष्मीवान्राक्षसेन्द्रनिवेशनम्। प्राकारेणार्कवर्णेन भास्वरेणाभिसम्वृतम्।।5.6.2।।

āsasādātha lakṣmīvānrākṣasendraniveśanam| prākāreṇārkavarṇena bhāsvareṇābhisamvṛtam||5.6.2||

Translation

अथ then, लक्ष्मीवान् prosperous, अर्कवर्णेन red in colour, भास्वरेण dazzling like the midday Sun, प्राकारेण by the boundary wall, अभिसम्वृतम् enclosed, राक्षसेन्द्रनिवेशनम् the residence of the lord of demons, आससाद reached

Meaning

Then he reached the residence of the lord of demons enclosed by a red colour compound wall dazzling like the midday Sun.

SK-6-3Sundara Kanda 6.3

रक्षितं राक्षसैर्घोरैः सिंहैरिव महद्वनम्। समीक्षमाणो भवनं चकाशे कपिकुञ्जरः।।5.6.3।।

rakṣitṃ rākṣasairghoraiḥ siṃhairiva mahadvanam| samīkṣamāṇo bhavanṃ cakāśe kapikuñjarḥ||5.6.3||

Translation

सिंहैः by lions, महावनमिव like a thick forest, भीमैः by fearful, राक्षसैः by demons, रक्षितम् protected, भवनम् mansion, समीक्षमाणः observing, कपिकुञ्जर: elephant among vanaras, चकाशे looked bright

Meaning

The elephant among vanaras (Hanuman), scanned the mansion defended by dreadful demons like a forest protected by lions.

SK-6-4Sundara Kanda 6.4

रूप्यकोपहितै श्चित्रैस्तोरणैर्हेमभूषितैः। विचित्राभिश्च कक्ष्याभिर्द्वारैश्च रुचिरैर्वृतम्।।5.6.4।।

He saw beautiful silver archways decorated with gold, colourful inner apartments with beauteous entrances.

SK-6-5Sundara Kanda 6.5

गजास्थितैर्महामात्रैः शूरैश्च विगतश्रमैः। उपस्थितमसंहार्यैः र्हयैः स्यन्दनयायिभिः।।5.6.5।।

gajāsthitairmahāmātraiḥ śūraiśca vigataśramaiḥ| upasthitamasṃhāryaiḥ rhayaiḥ syandanayāyibhiḥ||5.6.5||

Translation

गजास्थितैः mounted on elephants, शूरैः by drivers, विगतश्रमैः unwearied, महामात्रैः great, असंहार्यैः irresistible, हयैः with horses, स्यन्दनयायिभिः chariotriders, उपस्थितम् kept ready

Meaning

(He saw) archways guarded by riders mounted on majestic elephants and unwearied riders of chariots drawn by horses of irresistible speed kept ready.

SK-6-6Sundara Kanda 6.6

सिंहव्याघ्रतनुत्राणैर्दान्तकाञ्चनराजतैः। घोषवद्भिर्विचित्रैश्च सदा विचरितं रथैः।।5.6.6।।

siṃhavyāghratanutrāṇairdāntakāñcanarājataiḥ| ghoṣavadbhirvicitraiśca sadā vicaritṃ rathaiḥ||5.6.6||

Translation

सिंहव्याघ्रतनुत्राणैः covered with skins of lions and tigers, दान्तकाञ्चनराजतैः encrusted with images of ivory, gold and silver, घोषवद्भि: ringing, विचित्रैः by wonderful, रथैः with chariots, सदा allover, विचरितम् moving about

Meaning

There were wonderful chariots covered with skins of lions and tigers, encrusted with ivory, gold and silver with ringing bells moving about.

SK-6-7Sundara Kanda 6.7

बहुरत्नसमाकीर्णं परार्थ्यसनभाजनम्। महारथसमावासं महारथमहास्वनम्।।5.6.7।।

bahuratnasamākīrṇṃ parārthyasanabhājanam| mahārathasamāvāsṃ mahārathamahāsvanam||5.6.7||

Translation

बहुरत्नसमाकीर्णम् with many precious gems, परार्थ्यासनभाजनम् with excellent seats and vessels, महारथसमावासम् having halting places for big chariots, महारथमहास्वनम् filled with deep sounds of great charioteers.

Meaning

The palace was embellished with excellent seats and vessels with many precious gems. There were spacious places to accommodate big chariorts filled with shouts of great charioteers.

SK-6-8Sundara Kanda 6.8

दृश्यैश्च परमोदारैस्तैस्तैश्च मृगपक्षिभिः। विविधै र्बहुसाहस्रैः परिपूर्णं समन्ततः।।5.6.8।।

dṛśyaiśca paramodāraistaistaiśca mṛgapakṣibhiḥ| vividhai rbahusāhasraiḥ paripūrṇṃ samantatḥ||5.6.8||

Translation

दृश्यैः beautiful, परमोदारैः pleasing, विविधैः of many kinds, बहुसाहस्रैः in many thousands, तैस्स्सैः by different, मृगपक्षिभिः with beasts and birds, समन्ततः all over, परिपूर्णम् filled

Meaning

It was pleasing with several kinds of beautiful beasts in their thousands all over.

SK-6-9Sundara Kanda 6.9

विनीतैरन्तपालैश्च रक्षोभिश्च सुरक्षितम्। मुख्याभिश्च वरस्त्रीभिः परिपूर्णं समन्ततः।।5.6.9।।

vinītairantapālaiśca rakṣobhiśca surakṣitam| mukhyābhiśca varastrībhiḥ paripūrṇṃ samantatḥ||5.6.9||

Translation

विनीतैः by disciplined, अन्तपालैः by guards, रक्षोभिः by demons, सुरक्षितम् well guarded, मुख्याभिः important, वरस्त्रीभिः by beautiful shedemons, समन्ततः everywhere, परिपूर्णम् filled

Meaning

The place was full of beautful women, carefully protected by disciplined guards as well as demons.

SK-6-10Sundara Kanda 6.10

मुदितप्रमदारत्नं राक्षसेन्द्रनिवेशनम्। वराभरणसंह्रादैः समुद्रस्वनन्निस्वनम्।।5.6.10।।

muditapramadāratnṃ rākṣasendraniveśanam| varābharaṇasṃhrādaiḥ samudrasvanannisvanam||5.6.10||

Translation

मुदितप्रमदारत्नम् jewels of joyous women, राक्षसेन्द्रनिवेशनम् the residence of the lord of demons, वराभरणसंह्रादैः by the jingling of ornaments and accessories, समुद्रस्वनन्निस्वनम् like the sound of the sea.

Meaning

Full of the jewels of joyous women, the residence of the lord of demons reverberated with the jingling of their ornaments and accessories like the sound of the sea.

SK-6-11Sundara Kanda 6.11

तद्राजगुणसम्पन्नं मुख्यैश्चागुरुचन्दनैः। महाजनैः समाकीर्णां सिंहैरिव महद्वनम्।।5.6.11।।

tadrājaguṇasampannṃ mukhyaiścāgurucandanaiḥ| mahājanaiḥ samākīrṇāṃ siṃhairiva mahadvanam||5.6.11||

Translation

राजगुणसम्पन्नम् endowed with royal traits, मुख्यैः with eminent demons, अगुरुचन्दनैः with the fragrance of agaru and sandal, सिंहैः by lions, महत् वनमिव like a huge forest, महाजनैः by great people, समाकीर्णम् full.

Meaning

The place was full of eminent demons with royal traits like a dense forest infested with lions. It carried the fragrance of agaru and sandal of good quality.

SK-6-12Sundara Kanda 6.12

भेरीमृदङ्गाभिरुतं शङ्खघोषनिनादितम्। नित्यार्चितं पर्वहुतं पूजितं राक्षसैः सदा।।5.6.12।।

bherīmṛdaṅgābhirutṃ śaṅkhaghoṣanināditam| nityārcitṃ parvahutṃ pūjitṃ rākṣasaiḥ sadā||5.6.12||

Translation

भेरीमृदङ्गाभिरुतम् filled with the sounds of trumpets, mridangam and conches and percussion, शङ्खघोषनिनादितम् echoed with sounds of conches, नित्यार्चितम् daily worshipped, पर्वहुतम् with sacrifices performed on new and fullmoon days, सदा ever, राक्षसैःby demons, पूजितम् worshipped

Meaning

Reverberating with the sounds of trumpets, mridangam and conches, there the demons daily performed worships and sacrifices on new and fullmoon days.

SK-6-13Sundara Kanda 6.13

समुद्रमिव गम्भीरं समुद्रमिव निस्स्वनम्। महात्मनो महाद्वेश्म महारत्नपरिच्छदम्।।5.6.13।। महारत्नसमाकीर्णं ददर्श स महाकपिः।

samudramiva gambhīrṃ samudramiva nissvanam| mahātmano mahādveśma mahāratnaparicchadam||5.6.13|| mahāratnasamākīrṇṃ dadarśa sa mahākapiḥ|

Translation

समुद्रमिव resembling the sea, गम्भीरम् deep, निस्स्वनम् sound, समुद्रमिव sealike, महारत्न परिच्छदम् gemstudded ornaments, महारत्न समाकीर्णम् full of precious gems, महात्मनः of the great self, महत् great, वेश्म residence, सः that(Hanuman), महाकपिः the great vanara, ददर्श saw

Meaning

The place produced deep sounds like the sea. Those mighty ogres wore gemstudded ornaments. The great vanara saw the residence of the great self, Ravana rich with precious gems.

SK-6-14-15Sundara Kanda 6.14–15 (युग्मम्)

विराजमानं वपुषा गजाश्वरथसङ्कुलम्।।5.6.14।। लङ्काभरणमित्येव सोऽमन्यत महाकपिः। चचार हनुमांस्तत्र रावणस्य समीपतः।।5.6.15।।

virājamānṃ vapuṣā gajāśvarathasaṅkulam||5.6.14|| laṅkābharaṇamityeva so'manyata mahākapiḥ| cacāra hanumāṃstatra rāvaṇasya samīpatḥ||5.6.15||

Translation

वपुषा in appearance, विराजमानम् was present, गजाश्वरथसङ्कुलम् full of elephants, horses and chariots, लङ्काभरणम् इत्येव considered the very jewel of Lanka, सः that, महाकपिःgreat vanara, अमन्यत thought, हनुमान् Hanuman, तत्र there, रावणस्य Ravana's, समीपतः near by, चचार moved

Meaning

Hanuman, the great monkey, saw the royal mansion looking brilliant with elephants, horses and chariots. He thought that the palace was the very ornament of Lanka. He moved unnoticed into the close quarters of Ravana.

SK-6-16Sundara Kanda 6.16

गृहाद्गृहं राक्षसानामुद्यानानि च वानरः। वीक्षमाणोऽह्यसंत्रस्तः प्रासादांश्च चचार सः।।5.6.16।।

gṛhādgṛhṃ rākṣasānāmudyānāni ca vānarḥ| vīkṣamāṇo'hyasṃtrastḥ prāsādāṃśca cacāra sḥ||5.6.16||

Translation

राक्षसानाम् of the demons', गृहात् गृहम् from one house to the other, उद्यानानि च and pleasure gardens, वानर: vanara, वीक्षमाणः observing, असंत्रस्तः undaunted, प्रासादांश्च and the mansions, चचार ranged

Meaning

Hanuman ranged undaunted from one mansion to another including the pleasure gardens.

SK-6-17Sundara Kanda 6.17

अवप्लुत्य महावेगः प्रहस्तस्य निवेशनम्। ततोऽन्यत्पुप्लुवे वेश्म महापार्श्वस्य वीर्यवान्।।5.6.17।।

avaplutya mahāvegḥ prahastasya niveśanam| tato'nyatpupluve veśma mahāpārśvasya vīryavān||5.6.17||

Translation

महावीर्यः mighty, महावेगः of great speed, प्रहस्तस्य Prahasta's, निवेशनम् house, अवप्लुत्य jumping from there, ततः then, महापार्श्वस्य Mahaparshva, अन्यत् other, वेश्म houses, पुप्लुवे leaped

Meaning

Courageous and swift, Hanuman sprang from Prahasta's house to Mahaparshva's, and so on.

SK-6-18Sundara Kanda 6.18

अथ मेघप्रतीकाशं कुम्भकर्णनिवेशनम्। विभीषणस्य च तदा पुप्लुवे स महाकपिः।।5.6.18।।

atha meghapratīkāśṃ kumbhakarṇaniveśanam| vibhīṣaṇasya ca tadā pupluve sa mahākapiḥ||5.6.18||

Translation

अथ and then, सः that, महाकपिः great vanara, मेघप्रतीकाशाम् appearing like a cloud, कुम्भकर्णनिवेशनम् the residence of Kumbhakarna, तदा then, विभीषणस्य Vibhisana's, पुप्लुवे leaped

Meaning

Then the great vanara leaped from the residence of Kumbhakarna which looked like a cloud to Vibhishana's.

SK-6-19Sundara Kanda 6.19

महोदरस्य च गृहं विरूपाक्षस्य चैव हि। विद्युज्जिह्वस्य भवनं विद्युन्मालेस्तथैव च।।5.6.19।। वज्रदंष्ट्रस्य च तथा पुप्लुवे स महाकपिः।

mahodarasya ca gṛhṃ virūpākṣasya caiva hi| vidyujjihvasya bhavanṃ vidyunmālestathaiva ca||5.6.19|| vajradṃṣṭrasya ca tathā pupluve sa mahākapiḥ|

Translation

सः that, महाकपिः great vanara, महोदरस्य Mahodara's, गृहं च home also, विरूपाक्षस्य चैव हि Virupaksha's home also, विद्युज्जिह्वस्य Vidyujjihva's, तथैव च likewise, विद्युन्मालेः Vidyunmali's, तथैव likewise, वज्रदंष्ट्रस्य Vajradanstra's, भवनम् mansion, पुप्लुवे leaped

Meaning

The great vanara leaped from Mahodara's to Virupaksha's, from Vidyujjihva's to Vidyunmali and then to Vajradanstra's.

SK-6-20Sundara Kanda 6.20

शुकस्य च महातेजाः सारणस्य च धीमतः।।5.6.20।। तथा चेन्द्रजितो वेश्म जगाम हरियूथपः।

śukasya ca mahātejāḥ sāraṇasya ca dhīmatḥ||5.6.20|| tathā cendrajito veśma jagāma hariyūthapḥ|

Translation

महातेजाः brilliant one, हरियूथपः leader of monkeys, शुकस्य Suka's, धीमतः of the intelligent, सारणस्य Sarana's, तथा similarly, इन्द्रजितः Indrajit's , वेश्म residence, जगाम went

Meaning

The brilliant leader of monkeys bounded to the house of Suka, to the clever Sarana's and to Indrajit's.

SK-6-21-22Sundara Kanda 6.21–22 (युग्मम्)

जम्बुमालेः सुमालेश्च जगाम हरिसत्तमः।।5.6.21।। रश्मिकेतोश्च भवनं सूर्यकेतोस्तथैव च। वज्रकायस्य च तथा पुप्लुवे स महाकपिः।।5.6.22।।

jambumāleḥ sumāleśca jagāma harisattamḥ||5.6.21|| raśmiketośca bhavanṃ sūryaketostathaiva ca| vajrakāyasya ca tathā pupluve sa mahākapiḥ||5.6.22||

Translation

हरिसत्तमः the goble vanara, जम्बुमालेः Jambumali's, सुमालेश्च and Sumaali's, जगाम reached, सः he, महाकपिः great monkey, रमशिकेतोः Rashmiketu's, तथैव च and so also, सूर्यकेतोः Suryaketu's, तथा likewise, वज्रकायस्य Vajrakaya's, भवनम् mansion, पुप्लुवे jumped over

Meaning

The noble vanara jumped from Jambumali's to Sumali's and from Rashmiketu's, Suryaketu's and to Vajrakaya's residence.

धूम्राक्षस्य च सम्पातेर्भवनं मारुतात्मजः। विद्युद्रूपस्य भीमस्य घनस्य विघनस्य च।।5.6.23।। शुकनासस्य वक्रस्य शठस्य विकटस्य च। ब्रह्मकर्णस्य दंष्ट्रस्य रोमशस्य च रक्षसः।।5.6.24।। युद्धोन्मत्तस्य मत्तस्य ध्वजग्रीवस्य नादिनः। विद्युज्जिह्वेन्द्रजिह्वानां तथा हस्तिमुखस्य च।।5.6.25।। कराळस्य पिशाचस्य शोणिताक्षस्य चैव हि।

SK-6-26-27Sundara Kanda 6.26–27 (युग्मम्)

भवनम् क्रममाणः णोऽसौ हनुमान्मारुतात्मजः।।5.6.26।। तेषु तेषु महार्हेषु भवनेषु महायशाः। तेषामृद्धिमतामृद्धिं ददर्श स महाकपिः।।5.6.27।।

bhavanam kramamāṇḥ ṇo'sau hanumānmārutātmajḥ||5.6.26|| teṣu teṣu mahārheṣu bhavaneṣu mahāyaśāḥ| teṣāmṛddhimatāmṛddhiṃ dadarśa sa mahākapiḥ||5.6.27||

मारुतात्मजः son of the Windgod, महायशाः illustrious, महाकपिः great monkey, सः हनुमान् Hanuman, महार्हेषु in lofty places, तेषु तेषु in several places, भवनेषु in mansions, क्रमेणैव in order, क्रममाणः while he was advancing, ऋद्धिमताम् of the wealthy ones, तेषाम् their, ऋद्धिम् wealth, ददर्श saw

Meaning

The illustrious son of the Windgod jumped from house to house in an order and saw the wealth of the wealthy in the lofty mansions.

SK-6-28Sundara Kanda 6.28

सर्वेषां समतिक्रम्य भवनानि समन्ततः। आससादाथ लक्ष्मीवान् राक्षसेद्रनिवेशनम्।।5.6.28।।

sarveṣāṃ samatikramya bhavanāni samantatḥ| āsasādātha lakṣmīvān rākṣasedraniveśanam||5.6.28||

Translation

लक्ष्मीवान् the lucky, समन्ततः all over, सर्वेषाम् of all, भवनानि mansions, समतिक्रम्य passing, अथ then, राक्षसेन्द्रनिवेशनम् residence of lord of demons, आससाद reached

Meaning

Passing all the mansions, the lucky Hanuman reached the residence of the demon king, Ravana.

SK-6-29Sundara Kanda 6.29

रावणस्योपशायिन्यो ददर्श हरिसत्तमः। विचरन्हरिशार्दूलो राक्षसीर्विकृतेक्षणाः।।5.6.29।। शूलमुद्गरहस्ताश्च शक्तितोमरधारिणी:।

rāvaṇasyopaśāyinyo dadarśa harisattamḥ| vicaranhariśārdūlo rākṣasīrvikṛtekṣaṇāḥ||5.6.29|| śūlamudgarahastāśca śaktitomaradhāriṇī:|

Translation

हरिशार्दूलःtiger among vanaras, हरिसत्तमः noble vanara, विचरन् while moving about, रावणस्य Ravana's, उपशायिन्यः close by his bed, विकृतेक्षणाः of hideous eyes, शूलमुद्गरहस्ताश्च holding tridents and hammers, शक्तितोमरधारिणीः holding powerful javelines and iron cudgels, राक्षसीः rakshasas, ददर्श saw

Meaning

The heroic and powerful vanara saw at Ravana's residence demonesses with hideous eyes guarding the bed and an army of demons holding tridents, hammers, powerful javelins and iron cudgels.

SK-6-30Sundara Kanda 6.30

ददर्श विविधान् गुल्मान् तस्य रक्षःपतेर्गृहे।।5.6.30।। राक्षसांश्च महाकायान्नानाप्रहरणोद्यतान्।

dadarśa vividhān gulmān tasya rakṣḥpatergṛhe||5.6.30|| rākṣasāṃśca mahākāyānnānāpraharaṇodyatān|

Translation

तस्य his, रक्षः पते: demon king, गृहे at home, विविधान् several, गुल्मान् army troops, महाकायान् large, नानाप्रहरणोद्यतान् ready with different kinds of weapons, राक्षसांश्च demons also, ददर्श saw

Meaning

At his (Ravana's) residence, Hanuman also noticed troops of huge demons ready with different kinds of weapons.

SK-6-31-33Sundara Kanda 6.31–33 (त्रिकम्)

रक्तान् श्वेतान् सितांश्चैव हरींश्चापि महाजवान्।।5.6.31।। कुलीनान् रूपसम्पन्नान् गजान्परगजारुजान्। निष्ठितान् गजशिक्षयामैरावतसमान्युधि।।5.6.32।। निहन्त्रून् परसैन्यानां गृहे तस्मिन् ददर्श सः। क्षरतश्च यथा मेघान् स्रवतश्च यथा गिरीन्।।5.6.33।। मेघसन्ततिनिर्घोषान् दुर्धर्षान् समरे परैः।

raktān śvetān sitāṃścaiva harīṃścāpi mahājavān||5.6.31|| kulīnān rūpasampannān gajānparagajārujān| niṣṭhitān gajaśikṣayāmairāvatasamānyudhi||5.6.32|| nihantrūn parasainyānāṃ gṛhe tasmin dadarśa sḥ| kṣarataśca yathā meghān sravataśca yathā girīn||5.6.33|| meghasantatinirghoṣān durdharṣān samare paraiḥ|

Meaning

He saw horses of high speed in red, white and cream colours. He saw beautiful, wellbred elephants, which were not inferior to the enemy's. They were welltrained and had proved equal to Airavata (Indra's elephant) in battles. Resembling the thundering clouds, they were unassailable to the enemy in war and were trumpeting like a cluster of clouds.

SK-6-34-35Sundara Kanda 6.34–35 (युग्मम्)

सहस्रं वाहिनीस्तत्र जाम्बूनदपरिष्कृताः।।5.6.34।। हेमजालपरिच्छन्नास्तरुणादित्यसन्निभाः। ददर्श राक्षसेन्द्रस्य रावणस्य निवेशने।।5.6.35।।

तत्र there, राक्षसेन्द्रस्य demon king's, रावणस्य Ravana's, निवेशने in the residence, जाम्बूनदपरिष्कृताः bedecked with the gold, हेमजालपरिच्छन्नाः protected by the rays emerging from, तरुणादित्यसन्निभाः like the rising Sun, सहस्रम् thousands, वाहिनीः troops, ददर्श saw

Meaning

He saw in the palace of Ravana, the demon king, thousands of troops adorned with gold, fully protected with armour of gold shining like the morning Sun.

SK-6-36-37Sundara Kanda 6.36–37 (युग्मम्)

शिबिका विविधाकाराः स कपिर्मारुतात्मजः। लतागृहाणि चित्राणि चित्रशालागृहाणि च।।5.6.36।। क्रीडागृहाणि चान्यानि दारुपर्वतकानपि। कामस्य गृहकं रम्यं दिवागृहकमेव च।।5.6.37।। ददर्श राक्षसेन्द्रस्य रावणस्य निवेशने।

मारुतात्मजः son of the Windgod, सः कपिः that monkey (Hanuman), राक्षसेन्द्रस्य of the lord of demons, रावणस्य Ravana's, निवेशने in the dwelling, विविधाकाराः of several foms, शिबिकाः palanquins, चित्राणि colourful, लतागृहाणि bowers, चित्रशालागृहाणि homes with picture galleries, अन्यानि and other, क्रीडागृहाणि sporting homes, दारुपर्वतकानपि hillocks made of wood, कामस्य for lovemaking (romance), गृहकम् home, रम्यम् delighting, दिवागृहकमेव च for daytime activities, ददर्श saw

Meaning

The son of the Windgod saw at the palace of Ravana, the lord of demons, colourful palanquins of several kinds, bowers, picture galleries, spots for sporting, hillocks (artificial) made of wood, apartments for romance, for pleasures and day time activities.

SK-6-38-39Sundara Kanda 6.38–39 (युग्मम्)

स मन्दरगिरिप्रख्यं मयूरस्थानसङ्कुलम्।।5.6.38।। ध्वजयष्टिभिराकीर्णं ददर्श भवनोत्तमम्। अनेकरत्नसङ्कीर्णं निधिजालं समन्ततः।।5.6.39।। धीरनिष्ठितकर्मान्तं गृहं भूतपतेरिव।

sa mandaragiriprakhyṃ mayūrasthānasaṅkulam||5.6.38|| dhvajayaṣṭibhirākīrṇṃ dadarśa bhavanottamam| anekaratnasaṅkīrṇṃ nidhijālṃ samantatḥ||5.6.39|| dhīraniṣṭhitakarmāntṃ gṛhṃ bhūtapateriva|

Translation

सः he, मन्दरगिरिप्रख्यम् comaparable to mount Mandara, मयूरस्थानसङ्कुलम् places crowded with peacocks, ध्वजयष्टिभिः with flag staffs fixed, आकीर्णम् filled with, धीरनिष्ठितकर्मान्तम् built by skilled craftsmen with great care, भूतपतेः of Siva, the lord of all creatures, गृहमिव like home, भवनोत्तमम् magnificent mansion, समन्ततः every where, अनेकरत्नसङ्कीर्णम् full of gems, निधिजालम् treasure troves, ददर्श saw

Meaning

Comparable to mount Mandara, it was crowded with peacocks, set with flag staffs fixed all over, magnificent mansions built by skilled craftsmen with great efforts, decked with gems of several kinds, rich with treasures comparable to Kailasa, the home of Siva, the Lord of all beings.

SK-6-40Sundara Kanda 6.40

अर्चिर्भिश्चापि रत्नानां तेजसा रावणस्य च।।5.6.40।। विरराजाथ तद्वेश्म रश्मिमानिव रश्मिभिः।

arcirbhiścāpi ratnānāṃ tejasā rāvaṇasya ca||5.6.40|| virarājātha tadveśma raśmimāniva raśmibhiḥ|

Translation

तत् that, वेश्म place, रत्नानाम् of the gems, अर्चिर्भिश्चापि by the wonderful hues of gems, रावणस्य Ravana's, तेजसा च and with brightness, अथ there, रश्मिभिः with rays, रश्मिमानिव like the brightness of Sunrays, विरराज shone

Meaning

The palace of Ravana looked splendid with gems of different hues and with Ravana's presence, it was shining like the radiant Sungod.

SK-6-41Sundara Kanda 6.41

जाम्बूनदमयान्येन शयनान्यासनानि च।।5.6.41।। भाजनानि च मुख्यानि ददर्श हरियूथपः।

jāmbūnadamayānyena śayanānyāsanāni ca||5.6.41|| bhājanāni ca mukhyāni dadarśa hariyūthapḥ|

Translation

हरियूथपः vanara leader, जाम्बूनदमयान्येव made of Jambunada gold, शयनानि beds, आसनानि च seats, मुख्यानि chief, भाजनानि vessels, ददर्श saw

Meaning

The leader of the vanaras saw there beds, seats and main vessels made of gold.

SK-6-42Sundara Kanda 6.42

मध्वासवकृतक्लेदं मणिभाजनसङ्कुलम्।।5.6.42।। मनोरममसंबाधं कुबेरभवनं यथा। नूपुराणां च घोषेण काञ्चीनां निनदेन च।।5.6.43।। मृदङ्तलघोषैश्च घोषवद्भिर्विनादितम्। प्रासादसङ्घातयुतं स्त्रीरत्नशतसङ्कुलम्।।5.6.44। सुव्यूढकक्ष्यं हनुमान् प्रविवेश महागृहाम्।

madhvāsavakṛtakledṃ maṇibhājanasaṅkulam||5.6.42|| manoramamasṃbādhṃ kuberabhavanṃ yathā| nūpurāṇāṃ ca ghoṣeṇa kāñcīnāṃ ninadena ca||5.6.43|| mṛdaṅtalaghoṣaiśca ghoṣavadbhirvināditam| prāsādasaṅghātayutṃ strīratnaśatasaṅkulam||5.6.44| suvyūḍhakakṣyṃ hanumān praviveśa mahāgṛhām|

Translation

ध्वासवकृतक्लेदम् drenched with liqour and other drinks, मणिभाजनसङ्कुलम् with gemencrusted vessels scattered all over, मनोरमम् very delightful, असम्बाधम् spacious, कुबेरभवनं यथा like the mansion of Kubera, नूपुराणाम् of anklets, घोषेण by the sound, काञ्चीनाम् of girdles, निनदेन with the sounds, घोषवद्भि: filled with sounds of, मृदङ्गतल घोषैश्च with the sounds of drums, विनादितम् resonating, प्रासादसङ्घातयुतम् with rows of mansions, स्त्रीरत्नशतसङ्कुलम् filled with hundreds of exquisite women, सुव्यूढकक्ष्यम् with welllaid apartments, महागृहम् lofty palace, हनुमान् Hanuman, प्रविवेश entered

Meaning

Hanuman entered the delightful, lofty palace comparable to Kubera's mansion. It was filled with vessels encrusted with gems scattered all over. The floor was drenched with liquor. It was resonating with sounds of golden anklets of women and of drums. The rows of mansions, lofty palaces with welllaid apartments were full of hundreds of exquisite women. इत्यार्षे वाल्मीकीये श्रीमद्रामायणे आदिकाव्ये सुन्दरकाण्डे षष्ठस्सर्गः।। Thus ends the sixth sarga of Sundarakanda of the holy Ramayana, the first epic composed by sage Valmiki.
