SK-56-1Sundara Kanda 56.1

ततस्तु शिंशुपामूले जानकीं पर्युपस्थिताम्। अभिवाद्याब्रवीद्दिष्ट्या पश्यामि त्वामिहाक्षताम्।।5.56.1।।

tatastu śiṃśupāmūle jānakīṃ paryupasthitām| abhivādyābravīddiṣṭyā paśyāmi tvāmihākṣatām||5.56.1||

Translation

ततः then, शिंशुपामूले under the simsupa tree, पर्युपस्थिताम् stationed, जानकीम् Janakai, अभिवाद्य offered salutation, अब्रवीत् said, दिष्ट्या luckily, अक्षताम् unscathed, त्वाम् you, इह here, पश्यामि I see you.

Meaning

Then Hanuman offered salutations to Janaki, stationed at the foot of the simsupa tree, and said, "Luckily I see you unscathed."

SK-56-2Sundara Kanda 56.2

ततस्तं प्रस्थितं सीता वीक्षमाणा पुनः पुनः। भर्तृस्नेहान्वितं वाक्यं हनुमन्तमभाषत।।5.56.2।।

tatastṃ prasthitṃ sītā vīkṣamāṇā punḥ punḥ| bhartṛsnehānvitṃ vākyṃ hanumantamabhāṣata||5.56.2||

Translation

ततः then, प्रस्थितम् him who was ready to start his journey, तं हनुमन्तम् that Hanuman, पुनः पुनः again and again, वीक्षमाणा looking at him, सीता Sita, भर्तृस्नेहान्वितम् showing her love for her husband, वाक्यम् this word, अभाषत spoke.

Meaning

Looking at Hanuman again and again, as he was ready to start on his return journey, thus spoke Sita expressing her love for her husband:

SK-56-3Sundara Kanda 56.3

काममस्य त्वमेवैकः कार्यस्य परिसाधने। पर्याप्तः परवीरघ्न यशस्यस्ते बलोदयः।।5.56.3।।

kāmamasya tvamevaikḥ kāryasya parisādhane| paryāptḥ paravīraghna yaśasyaste balodayḥ||5.56.3||

Translation

परवीरघ्नः destroyer of foes, अस्य कार्यस्य of this task, परिसाधने in this task (of rescuing), त्वम् you, एकः एव singlehanded, कामम् indeed, पर्याप्तः capable, ते to you, बलोदयः rise of strength, यशस्यः will bring glory.

Meaning

"O destroyer of foes, you are capable of rescuing me singlehanded. Your success will raise your strength and bring glory.

SK-56-4Sundara Kanda 56.4

शरैस्तु सङ्कुलां कृत्वा लङ्कां परबलार्दनः। मां नयेद्यदि काकुत्स्थस्तत्तस्य सदृशं भवेत्।।5.56.4।।

śaraistu saṅkulāṃ kṛtvā laṅkāṃ parabalārdanḥ| māṃ nayedyadi kākutsthastattasya sadṛśṃ bhavet||5.56.4||

Translation

परबलार्दनः slayer of enemy forces,काकुत्स्थः Kakutstha,लङ्काम् to Lanka, शरैः तु with arrows indeed, सङ्कुलाम् spreading, कृत्वा all over, माम् me, नयेद्यदि if he takes me, तत् that, तस्य for him, सदृशम् worthy, भवेत् will be.

Meaning

"If Kakutstha Rama, the slayer of enemy forces comes to Lanka, fills it with his arrows and takes me back, it will be worthy of him.

SK-56-5Sundara Kanda 56.5

तद्यथा तस्य विक्रान्तमनुरूपं महात्मनः। भवत्याहवशूरस्य तथा त्वमुपपादय।।5.56.5।।

tadyathā tasya vikrāntamanurūpṃ mahātmanḥ| bhavatyāhavaśūrasya tathā tvamupapādaya||5.56.5||

Translation

तत् that, महात्मनः the exalted, आहवशूरस्य who is chivalrous in the battle, तस्य his, विक्रान्तम् heroic advance, अनुरूपम् worthy of his stature, यथा as such, भवति will be, तथा that manner, त्वम् you, उपपादय act.

Meaning

"You should act in such a manner that the exalted Rama, who is chivalrous in the battlefield, exhibits his valour worthy of his stature".

SK-56-6Sundara Kanda 56.6

तदर्थोपहितं वाक्यं प्रश्रितं हेतुसंहितम्। निशम्य हनुमांस्तस्या वाक्यमुत्तरमब्रवीत्।।5.56.6।।

tadarthopahitṃ vākyṃ praśritṃ hetusṃhitam| niśamya hanumāṃstasyā vākyamuttaramabravīt||5.56.6||

Translation

हनुमान् Hanuman, प्रश्रितम् properly inclined, हेतुसंहितम् support with reason, अर्थोपहितम् meaningful, तस्याः her, तत् that, वाक्यम् word, निशम्य after hearing, उत्तरम् reply, वाक्यम् these words, अब्रवीत् spoke.

Meaning

Hearing her meaningful reply which was welldisposed and reasonable, Hanuman replied:

SK-56-7Sundara Kanda 56.7

क्षिप्रमेष्यति काकुत्स्थः हर्यृक्षप्रवरैर्वृतः। यस्ते युधि विजित्यारीन् शोकं व्यपनयिष्यति।।5.56.7।।

kṣiprameṣyati kākutsthḥ haryṛkṣapravarairvṛtḥ| yaste yudhi vijityārīn śokṃ vyapanayiṣyati||5.56.7||

Translation

काकुत्स्थः Kakutstha, हर्यृक्षप्रवरैः with the foremost among vanaras and bears, वृतः surrounded, क्षिप्रम् very soon, एष्यति he will come, यः he who, युधि in battle, अरीन् enemies, विजित्य having won, ते your, शोकम् sorrow, व्यपनयिष्यति will remove.

Meaning

"Rama will come soon with the best of vanaras and bears. He would win the battle and remove your sorrrow.

SK-56-8Sundara Kanda 56.8

एवमाश्वास्य वैदेहीं हनुमान् मारुतात्मजः। गमनाय मतिं कृत्वा वैदेहीमभ्यवादयत्।।5.56.8।।

evamāśvāsya vaidehīṃ hanumān mārutātmajḥ| gamanāya matiṃ kṛtvā vaidehīmabhyavādayat||5.56.8||

Translation

मारुतात्मजः son of the Windgod, हनुमान् Hanuman, वैदेहीम् to Vaidehi, एवम् in that way, आश्वास्य having consoled, गमनाय to depart, मतिम् his mind, कृत्वा after deciding, वैदेहीम् to Vaidehi, अभ्यवादयत् respectfully saluted.

Meaning

Hanuman, son of the Windgod having consoled Vaidehi, saluted her respectfully and decided to depart.

SK-56-9Sundara Kanda 56.9

ततस्स कपिशार्दूलः स्वामिसन्दर्शनोत्सुकः। आरुरोह गिरिश्रेष्ठमरिष्टमरिमर्दनः।।5.56.9।।

tatassa kapiśārdūlḥ svāmisandarśanotsukḥ| āruroha giriśreṣṭhamariṣṭamarimardanḥ||5.56.9||

Translation

ततः then, अरिमर्दनः crusher of foes, सः he, कपिशार्दूलः a tiger among vanaras, स्वामिसन्दर्शनोत्सुकः anxious to see his lord, अरिष्टम् Arishta, गिरिश्रेष्ठम् excellent mountain, आरुरोह ascended.

Meaning

Then Hanuman, the crusher of enemies, a tiger among vanaras anxious to see his lord ascended the mount Arishta.

SK-56-10Sundara Kanda 56.10

तुङ्गपद्मकजुष्टाभिर्नीलाभिर्वनराजिभिः। सोत्तरीयमिवाम्भोदैः शृंगान्तरविलम्बिभिः।।5.56.10।।

tuṅgapadmakajuṣṭābhirnīlābhirvanarājibhiḥ| sottarīyamivāmbhodaiḥ śṛṃgāntaravilambibhiḥ||5.56.10||

Translation

तुङ्गपद्मकजुष्टाभि: by those choicest tall padmaka trees, नीलाभिः by dark ones, वनराजिभिः with forest ranges, शृङ्गान्तरविलम्बिभिः hanging down from the spaces between the peaks of mountain, अम्भोदैः the rainy clouds, सोत्तरीयमिव as if covered with an upper garment.

Meaning

Mount Arishta was full of blue forestranges with choicest tall padmaka trees. With clouds hanging on the slopes of mountain peaks, it appeared as though the mountain was wrapped in an upper garment.

SK-56-11Sundara Kanda 56.11

बोध्यमानमिव प्रीत्या दिवाकरकरैश्शुभैः। उन्मिषन्तमिवोद्धूतैर्लोचनैरिव धातुभिः।।5.56.11।।

bodhyamānamiva prītyā divākarakaraiśśubhaiḥ| unmiṣantamivoddhūtairlocanairiva dhātubhiḥ||5.56.11||

Translation

शुभैः with auspicious ones, दिवाकरकरैः with Sun's rays, प्रीत्या affectionately, बोध्यमानमिव as if he was being awakened, उद्धूतैः with those pushed up (by wind), लोचनैरिव like with the eyes, धातुभिः with the minerals, उन्मिषन्तमिव as if he opening.

Meaning

As if the mountain was awakened from sleep by the rays of the blessed Sun. With the colour of glowing minerals exuding, it was as if the mountain was looking out with his eyes open. (The minerals underneath the mud appear when wind blows removing the dust covering them. The glowing minerals are fancied to be eyes of the mountain.)

SK-56-12Sundara Kanda 56.12

तोयौघननिस्स्वनैर्मन्द्रैः प्राधीतमिव पर्वतम्। प्रगीतमिव विस्पष्टैर्नानाप्रस्रवणस्वनैः।।5.56.12।।

toyaughananissvanairmandraiḥ prādhītamiva parvatam| pragītamiva vispaṣṭairnānāprasravaṇasvanaiḥ||5.56.12||

Translation

मन्द्रैः with loud, तोयौघनिस्वनैः sounds of gurgling masses of waters, प्राधीतमिव as if reciting (loudly), विस्पष्टैः with clear sounds, नानाप्रस्रवणस्वनैः with different kinds of sounds of waterfalls, प्रगीतमिव as if singing, पर्वतम् mountain.

Meaning

With the loud sounds of masses of gurgling waters, the mountain appeared as though it was standing and reciting (the Vedas) loudly. With murmuring sounds of different waterfalls, it appeared as though the mountain was singing. (The sage differentiates the steadily trickling watersound from the rhythmic musical sounds of waterfalls.)

SK-56-13Sundara Kanda 56.13

देवदारुभिरत्युच्चैरूर्ध्वबाहुमिव स्थितम्। प्रपातजलनिर्घोषैः प्राक्रुष्टमिव सर्वतः।।5.56.13।।

devadārubhiratyuccairūrdhvabāhumiva sthitam| prapātajalanirghoṣaiḥ prākruṣṭamiva sarvatḥ||5.56.13||

Translation

अत्युच्चैः by the tall ones, देवदारुभिः with devadaru trees, ऊर्ध्वबाहुमिव as if with raised hands, स्थितम् standing, प्रपातजलनिर्घोषैः with the sounds of waterfalls, सर्वतः all over, प्राक्रुष्टमिव like the reverberations

Meaning

With the tall devadaru trees on the mountain, it appeared as if the sages were standing with shoulders lifted up and performing penance. The sounds of waterfalls filled all over with reverberations.

SK-56-14Sundara Kanda 56.14

वेपमानमिव श्यामैः कम्पमानैश्शरद्वनैः। वेणुभिर्मारुतोद्धूतैः कूजन्तमिव कीचकैः।।5.56.14।।

vepamānamiva śyāmaiḥ kampamānaiśśaradvanaiḥ| veṇubhirmārutoddhūtaiḥ kūjantamiva kīcakaiḥ||5.56.14||

Translation

श्यामैः with dark ones, कम्पमानैः with shaking, शरद्वनैः clouds of autumn, वेपमानमिव as if trembling, वेणुभिः कीचकैः with hollow bamboos, मारुतोद्धूतैः hit by the wind, कीचकैः hollow bamboos rattling in the wind, कूजन्तमिव appearing like the warbling sound.

Meaning

The mountain appeared as if trembling with the dark clouds of autumn. The shrill sounds pasing through the hollow bamboos filled with air appeared as if it was producing sweet musical notes.

SK-56-15Sundara Kanda 56.15

निश्श्वसन्तमिवामर्षाद्घोरैराशीविषोत्तमैः। नीहारकृतगम्भीरैर्ध्यायन्तमिव गह्वरैः।।5.56.15।।

niśśvasantamivāmarṣādghorairāśīviṣottamaiḥ| nīhārakṛtagambhīrairdhyāyantamiva gahvaraiḥ||5.56.15||

Translation

घोरैः with dreadful ones, आशीविषोत्तमैः with poisonous snakes, निःश्वसन्तमिव as if hissing, नीहारकृतगम्भीरैः with majestically covered heavy mist, गह्वरैः with caves, ध्यायन्तमिव as though meditating, controlling all senses.

Meaning

The mountain was as though hissing like a dreadful, poisonous snake. With the caves standing majestically covered with mist, the mountain appeared as if it was meditating.

SK-56-16Sundara Kanda 56.16

मेघपादनिभैः पादैः प्रक्रान्तमिव सर्वतः। जृंम्भमाणमिवाऽकाशे शिखरैरभ्रमालिभिः।।5.56.16।।

meghapādanibhaiḥ pādaiḥ prakrāntamiva sarvatḥ| jṛṃmbhamāṇamivā'kāśe śikharairabhramālibhiḥ||5.56.16||

Translation

मेघपादनिभैः appearing like the feet of clouds, पादैः with its feet, सर्वत: all over, प्रक्रान्तमिव as if traversing, अभ्रमालिभिः with ranges of clouds, शिखरैः with its peaks, आकाशे in the sky, जृम्भमाणमिव as if yawning.

Meaning

With the ranges of foothills appearing like the feet of clouds traversing, with its peaks like garlands of clouds traversing over the mountain, it made one feel it was yawning.

SK-56-17Sundara Kanda 56.17

कूटैश्च बहुधा कीर्णैश्शोभितं बहुकन्दरैः। सालतालाश्वकर्णैश्च वंशैश्च बहुभिर्वृतम्।।5.56.17।।

kūṭaiśca bahudhā kīrṇaiśśobhitṃ bahukandaraiḥ| sālatālāśvakarṇaiśca vṃśaiśca bahubhirvṛtam||5.56.17||

Translation

बहुधा many kinds, कीर्णैः scattered with, बहुकन्दरैः with many caves, कूटैश्च with mountain peaks, शोभितम् delighting, बहुभिः with many, सालतालाश्वकर्णैश्च with Sal, palms, Aswakarna trees and, वंशैश्च with bamboos and reeds, वृतम् canopied with.

Meaning

With many kinds of caves and peaks scattered all over, the mountain looked delightful. It was canopied with numerous trees like Sal, palms, Aswakarnas and bamboos.

SK-56-18Sundara Kanda 56.18

लतावितानैर्विततैः पुष्पवद्भिरलङ्कृतम्। नानामृगगणाकीर्णं धातुनिष्यन्दभूषितम्।।5.56.18।।

latāvitānairvitataiḥ puṣpavadbhiralaṅkṛtam| nānāmṛgagaṇākīrṇṃ dhātuniṣyandabhūṣitam||5.56.18||

Translation

विततैः with those spread out, पुष्पवद्भिः with those filled with flowers, लतावितानैः with creepers stretched all over, अलङ्कृतम् decorated, नानामृगगणाकीर्णम् crowded with herds of animals, धातुनिष्यन्दभूषितम् decorated with colourful minerals dropping down.

Meaning

It was spread with creepers filled with beautiful flowers and herds of animals. The colourful minerals flowing down decorated the mountain.

SK-56-19Sundara Kanda 56.19

बहुप्रस्रवणोपेतं शिलासञ्चयसङ्कटम्। महर्षियक्षगन्धर्वकिन्नरोरगसेवितम्।।5.56.19।।

bahuprasravaṇopetṃ śilāsañcayasaṅkaṭam| maharṣiyakṣagandharvakinnaroragasevitam||5.56.19||

Translation

बहुप्रस्रवणोपेतम् full of waterfalls, शिलासञ्चयसङ्कटम् with heaps of rocks making (the streams' flow difficult), महर्षियक्षगन्धर्वकिन्नरोरगसेवितम् attended with sages, yakshas, gandharvas, kinnaras and nagas.

Meaning

There were many streams of water flowing and rocks making it difficult for the streams to flow. The mountain was inhabited by sages, yakshas, gandharvas, kinnaras and nagas, and uragas.

SK-56-20Sundara Kanda 56.20

लतापादपसङ्घातं सिंहाध्युषितकन्दरम्। व्याघ्रसङ्घसमाकीर्णं स्वादुमूलफलद्रुमम्।।5.56.20।।

latāpādapasaṅghātṃ siṃhādhyuṣitakandaram| vyāghrasaṅghasamākīrṇṃ svādumūlaphaladrumam||5.56.20||

Translation

लतापादपसङ्घातम् with clusters of creepers and trees, सिंहाध्युषितकन्दरम् caves inhabited by lions, व्याघ्रसङ्घसमाकीर्णम् herds of tigers scattered all over, स्वादुमूलफलद्रुमम् full of trees bearing tasty roots and fruits.

Meaning

The clusters of creepers, and trees bearing tasty fruits and roots were uprooted. There were caves inhabited by lions. Herds of tigers were scattered all over (by the impetus of Hanuman's pressure on the mountain).

SK-56-21Sundara Kanda 56.21

तमारुरोह हनुमान् पर्वतं पवनात्मजः। रामदर्शनशीघ्रेण प्रहर्षेणाभिचोदितः।।5.56.21।।

tamāruroha hanumān parvatṃ pavanātmajḥ| rāmadarśanaśīghreṇa praharṣeṇābhicoditḥ||5.56.21||

Translation

पवनात्मजः son of the Windgod, हनुमान् Hanuman, रामदर्शनशीघ्रेण anxious to see Rama soon, प्रहर्षेण with joy, अभिचोदितः prompted, तं पर्वतम् that mountain, आरुरोह ascended.

Meaning

Anxious to see Rama soon, the son of the Windgod ascended the mountain happily.

SK-56-22Sundara Kanda 56.22

तेन पादतलाक्रान्ता रम्येषु गिरिसानुषु। सघोषास्समशीर्यन्त शिलाश्चूर्णीकृतास्ततः।।5.56.22।।

tena pādatalākrāntā ramyeṣu girisānuṣu| saghoṣāssamaśīryanta śilāścūrṇīkṛtāstatḥ||5.56.22||

Translation

ततः then, रम्येषु in delightful ones, गिरिसानुषु on mountain ranges, तेन by him, पादतलाक्रान्ताः crushed by his feet, शिलाः rocks, सघोषाः making loud sound, चूर्णीकृताः reduced to powder, समशीर्यन्त rolled down.

Meaning

Crushed under Hanuman's feet the rocks making a loud noise on the beautiful mountain ranges rolled down, reduced to powder.

SK-56-23Sundara Kanda 56.23

स तमारुह्य शैलेन्द्रं व्यवर्धत महाकपिः। दक्षिणादुत्तरं पारं प्रार्थयन् लवणाम्भसः।।5.56.23।।

sa tamāruhya śailendrṃ vyavardhata mahākapiḥ| dakṣiṇāduttarṃ pārṃ prārthayan lavaṇāmbhasḥ||5.56.23||

Translation

सः महाकपिः that great Hanuman, लवणाम्भसः of the saltwater ocean, दक्षिणात् from the South, उत्तरं पारम् towards northern shore, प्रार्थयन् desiring, तं शैलेन्द्रम् that king of mountains, आरुह्य having ascended, व्यवर्धत started enlarging body.

Meaning

On ascending the king of mountains, desiring to reach the northern shore of the saltwater ocean from the Southern shore, he enlarged his body (in preparation to leap).

SK-56-24Sundara Kanda 56.24

अधिरुह्य ततो वीरः पर्वतं पवनात्मजः। ददर्श सागरं भीमं मीनोरगनिषेवितम्।।5.56.24।।

adhiruhya tato vīrḥ parvatṃ pavanātmajḥ| dadarśa sāgarṃ bhīmṃ mīnoraganiṣevitam||5.56.24||

Translation

ततः then, वीरः hero, पवनात्मजः son of the Windgod, पर्वतम् mountain, अधिरुह्य having ascended, मीनोरगनिषेवितम् inhabited by fishes and sankes, भीमम् dreadful, सागरम् ocean, ददर्श saw.

Meaning

Then the heroic son of the Windgod, who had ascended the mountain saw the dreadful ocean inhabited by fishes and snakes.

SK-56-25Sundara Kanda 56.25

स मारुत इवाऽकाशं मारुतस्यात्मसम्भवः। प्रपेदे हरिशार्दूलो दक्षिणादुत्तरां दिशम्।।5.56.25।।

sa māruta ivā'kāśṃ mārutasyātmasambhavḥ| prapede hariśārdūlo dakṣiṇāduttarāṃ diśam||5.56.25||

Translation

मारुतस्य Windgod's, आत्मसम्भवः son, सः हरिशार्दूलः that tiger among monkeys, दक्षिणात् from the south, उत्तरांदिशम् towards northern side, मारुतः इव like the windgod, आकाशम् sky, प्रपेदे leaped.

Meaning

Hanuman, the tiger among monkeys leaped into the sky like the Windgod from the south to the north shore.

SK-56-26Sundara Kanda 56.26

स तदा पीडितस्तेन कपिना पर्वतोत्तमः। ररास सह तैर्भूतैः प्रविशन्वसुधातलम्।।5.56.26।। कम्पमानैश्च शिखरैः पतद्भिरपि च द्रुमैः।

sa tadā pīḍitastena kapinā parvatottamḥ| rarāsa saha tairbhūtaiḥ praviśanvasudhātalam||5.56.26|| kampamānaiśca śikharaiḥ patadbhirapi ca drumaiḥ|

Translation

तदा then, तेन कपिना by that vanara, पीडितः pressed, सः पर्वतोत्तमः that great mountain, तैः those, भूतैः सह along with the creatures, वसुधातलम् to the earth, प्रविशन् while entering, कम्पमानैः with shaking, शिखरैः with peaks, पतद्भिः with dropped, द्रुमैः with trees, ररास crushed down making great sound.

Meaning

Pressed under the feet of Hanuman, the great mountain made loud sound sinking into the earth along with all its creatures, with its shaken mountain peaks and uprooted trees dropping down.

SK-56-27Sundara Kanda 56.27

तस्योरुवेगोन्मथिताः पादपाः पुष्पशालिनः।।5.56.27।। निपेतुर्भूतले रुग्णाश्शक्रायुधहता इव।

tasyoruvegonmathitāḥ pādapāḥ puṣpaśālinḥ||5.56.27|| nipeturbhūtale rugṇāśśakrāyudhahatā iva|

Translation

तस्य his, ऊरुवेगात् with the force of his thighs, मथिताः shaken, पुष्पशालिनः trees with blossoms, पादपाः trees, रुग्णाः men suffering with diseases, शक्रायुधहता इव as if struck by Indra's thunderbolt, भूतले on the ground, निपेतुः fell.

Meaning

Shaken by the violent force of Hanuman's thighs, the blossoming trees fell on the ground like sickmen hit by Indra's thunderbolt.

SK-56-28Sundara Kanda 56.28

कन्दरान्तरसंस्थानां पीडितानां महौजसाम्।।5.56.28।। सिंहानां निनदो भीमो नभो भिन्दन् स शुश्रुवे।

kandarāntarasṃsthānāṃ pīḍitānāṃ mahaujasām||5.56.28|| siṃhānāṃ ninado bhīmo nabho bhindan sa śuśruve|

Translation

कन्दरान्तरसंस्थानाम् of those residing in mountain caves, पीडितानाम् of those crushed, महौजसाम् of the powerful ones, सिंहानाम् of lions, भीमः terrific, सः निनदः that noise, नभः sky, भिन्दन् as if breaking, शुश्रुवे was heard.

Meaning

The dreadful roar of strong lions, lying in mountaincaves was heard cracking the sky when they were crushed in the turmoil.

SK-56-29Sundara Kanda 56.29

त्रस्तव्यावृत्तवसना व्याकुलीकृतभूषणाः।।5.56.29।। विद्याधर्यः समुत्पेतुस्सहसा धरणीधरात्।

trastavyāvṛttavasanā vyākulīkṛtabhūṣaṇāḥ||5.56.29|| vidyādharyḥ samutpetussahasā dharaṇīdharāt|

Translation

विद्याधर्यः Vidyadharis, त्रस्तव्यावृत्तवसनाः with their clothes slipped with fear, व्याकुलीकृतभूषणाः with ornaments disarrayed, सहसा at ones, धरणीधरात् from the mountain, समुत्पेतुः flew.

Meaning

The Vidyadharis with their clothes slipped and ornaments disarrayed in fear, at once flew from the mountain.

SK-56-30Sundara Kanda 56.30

अतिप्रमाणा बलिनो दीप्तजिह्वा महाविषाः।।5.56.30।। निपीडितशिरोग्रीवा व्यचेष्टन्त महाहयः।

atipramāṇā balino dīptajihvā mahāviṣāḥ||5.56.30|| nipīḍitaśirogrīvā vyaceṣṭanta mahāhayḥ|

Translation

अतिप्रमाणाः very big ones in size, बलिनः strong ones, दीप्तजिह्वाः with glowing tongues, महाविषाः highly poisonous, महाहयः huge snakes, निपीडितशिरोग्रीवाः pressed on their heads and necks, व्यचेष्टन्त started protruding.

Meaning

Highly powerful, huge and poisonous snakes with their glowing tongues protruded, pressed on their heads and necks (by Hanuman).

SK-56-31Sundara Kanda 56.31

किन्नरोरगन्धर्वयक्षविद्याधरास्तदा।।5.56.31।। पीडितं तं नगवरं त्यक्त्वा गगनमास्थिता:।

kinnaroragandharvayakṣavidyādharāstadā||5.56.31|| pīḍitṃ tṃ nagavarṃ tyaktvā gaganamāsthitā:|

Translation

तदा then, किन्नरोरगगन्धर्वयक्षविद्याधराः kinnaras, uragas, gandharvas, yakshas and vidyadharas, पीडितम् tormented, तं नगवरम् that mountain, त्यक्त्वा having left, गगनम् to the sky, आस्थिताः occupied.

Meaning

Then the kinnaras, uragas, gandhravas, yakshas and vidyadharas left the tortured mountain and occupied the sky.

SK-56-32Sundara Kanda 56.32

स च भूमिधरः श्रीमान्बलिना तेन पीडितः।।5.56.32।। सवृक्षशिखरोदग्रः प्रविवेश रसातलम्।

sa ca bhūmidharḥ śrīmānbalinā tena pīḍitḥ||5.56.32|| savṛkṣaśikharodagrḥ praviveśa rasātalam|

Translation

बलिना by the powerful one, तेन by him, पीडितः crushed, सवृक्षशिखरोदग्रः along with its trees and standing tall peaks, श्रीमान् prosperous, सः भूमिधरश्च that mountain, रसातलम् underworld, प्रविवेश entered.

Meaning

Crushed by the powerful Hanuman, that prosperous mountain with its trees standing and tall peaks sank into the underworld.

SK-56-33Sundara Kanda 56.33

दशयोजनविस्तारस्त्रिंशद्योजनमुच्छ्रितः।।5.56.33।। धरण्यां समतां यातः स बभूव धराधरः।

daśayojanavistārastriṃśadyojanamucchritḥ||5.56.33|| dharaṇyāṃ samatāṃ yātḥ sa babhūva dharādharḥ|

Translation

दशयोजनविस्तारः ten yojanas in width, त्रिंशद्योजनम् thirty yojanas, उच्छ्रितः in height, सः धराधरः that mountain, धरण्याम् along with, समताम् equal, यातः reduced, बभूव became.

Meaning

That mountain of ten yojanas in width and thirty yojanas in height got levelled with the earth.

SK-56-34Sundara Kanda 56.34

स लिलङ्घयिषुर्भीमं सलीलं लवणार्णवम्।।5.56.34।। कल्लोलास्फालवेलान्तमुत्पपात नभो हरिः।

sa lilaṅghayiṣurbhīmṃ salīlṃ lavaṇārṇavam||5.56.34|| kallolāsphālavelāntamutpapāta nabho hariḥ|

Translation

सः हरिः that vanara, भीमम् terrific, कल्लोलास्फालवेलान्तम् with huge waves dashing towards the shore, लवणार्णवम् ocean of saltwater, सलीलम् easily, लिलङ्घयिषुः desiring to cross, नभः sky, उत्पपात leaped.

Meaning

Eager to leap the terrific ocean lashed by huge waves hitting the shore Hanuman rose up effortlessly and jumped into the sky. इत्यार्षे श्रीमद्रामायणे वाल्मीकीय आदिकाव्ये सुन्दरकाण्डे षट्पञ्चाशस्सर्गः।। Thus ends the fiftysixth sarga of Sundarakanda of the holy Ramayana, the first epic composed by sage Valmiki.
