AK-112-1Ayodhya Kanda 112.1

तमप्रतिमतेजोभ्यां भ्रातृभ्यां रोमहर्षणम्। विस्मिता: स‌ङ्गमं प्रेक्ष्य समवेता महर्षयः।।2.112.1।।

tamapratimatejobhyāṃ bhrātṛbhyāṃ romaharṣaṇam| vismitā: sa‌ṅgamṃ prekṣya samavetā maharṣayḥ||2.112.1||

Translation

समवेताः those who had assembled, महर्षयः the great sages, अप्रतिमतेजोभ्यां of both men of unparalleled brilliance, भ्रातृभ्याम् of brothers (Rama and Bharata), तम् that, रोमहर्षणम् thrilled, सङ्गमम् their meeting, प्रेक्ष्य witnessing, विस्मिताः were amazed.

Meaning

The great sages assembled there were amazed at witnessing the meeting of the two brothers (Rama and Bharata) of umparalleled briliance.

AK-112-2Ayodhya Kanda 112.2

अन्तर्हिता मुनिगणास्सिद्धाश्च परमर्षयः। तौ भ्रातरौ महात्मानौ काकुत्स्थौ प्रशशंसिरे।।2.112.2।।

antarhitā munigaṇāssiddhāśca paramarṣayḥ| tau bhrātarau mahātmānau kākutsthau praśaśṃsire||2.112.2||

Translation

अन्तर्हिताः remaining invisible, मुनिगणाः hosts of sages, सिद्धाश्च siddhas, परमर्षय: devarshis, महात्मानौ magnanimous, भ्रातरौ brothers, तौ those two, काकुत्स्थौ Kakutsthas, प्रशशंसिरे lauded.

Meaning

The hosts of sages, siddhas and devarshis watching invisible the two Kakutstha brothers extoled them.

AK-112-3Ayodhya Kanda 112.3

स धन्यो यस्य पुत्रौ द्वौ धर्मज्ञौ धर्मविक्रमौ। श्रुत्वा वयं हि सम्भाषामुभयोस्स्पृहयामहे।।2.112.3।।

sa dhanyo yasya putrau dvau dharmajñau dharmavikramau| śrutvā vayṃ hi sambhāṣāmubhayosspṛhayāmahe||2.112.3||

Translation

धर्मज्ञौ practioners of righteousness, धर्मविक्रमौ whose strength is righteousness, द्वौ both, यस्य whose, पुत्रौ two sons, सः he (Dasaratha), धन्यः is fortunate, वयम् we, संभाषाम् their conversation, श्रुत्वा having heard, उभयोः in respect of both of them, स्पृहयामहे हि we are attached.

Meaning

On hearing their dialogue we are deeply drawn towards them, these two sons of king Dasaratha who was fortunate to have these practioners of righteousness and whose strength is dharma.

AK-112-4Ayodhya Kanda 112.4

ततस्त्वृषिगणाः क्षिप्रं दशग्रीववधैषिणः। भरतं राजशार्दूलमित्यूचु: स‌ङ्गता वचः।।2.112.4।।

tatastvṛṣigaṇāḥ kṣiprṃ daśagrīvavadhaiṣiṇḥ| bharatṃ rājaśārdūlamityūcu: sa‌ṅgatā vacḥ||2.112.4||

Translation

ततः thereafter, क्षिप्रम् quickly, दशग्रीववधैषिणः men desiring the destruction of tenheaded Ravana, ऋषिगणाः hosts of rishis, राजशार्दूलम् best of kings, भरतम् Bharata, इति thus, वचः words, ऊचुः uttered.

Meaning

Thereafter hosts of rishis desiring the speedy destruction of tenheaded Ravana said these words to Bharata, the best of kings.

AK-112-5Ayodhya Kanda 112.5

कुले जात महाप्राज्ञ महावृत्त महायशः। ग्राह्यं रामस्य वाक्यं ते पितरं यद्यवेक्षसे।।2.112.5।।

kule jāta mahāprājña mahāvṛtta mahāyaśḥ| grāhyṃ rāmasya vākyṃ te pitarṃ yadyavekṣase||2.112.5||

Translation

कुले जात O born in an illustrious race, महाप्राज्ञ O highly sagacious one, महावृत्त of virtuous conduct, महायशः O man of great renown, ते your, पितरम् father, अवेक्षसे यदि if you look at your father, रामस्य Rama's, वाक्यम् words, ग्राह्यम् have to be accepted.

Meaning

O Bharata, born in an illustrious race, highly sagacious and a man of virtuous conduct and great renown, accept Rama's proposal if you have any regard for your father.

AK-112-6Ayodhya Kanda 112.6

सदाऽनृणमिमं रामं वयमिच्छामहे पितुः। आनृणत्वाच्च कैकेय्या: स्वर्गम् दशरथो गतः।।2.112.6।।

sadā'nṛṇamimṃ rāmṃ vayamicchāmahe pituḥ| ānṛṇatvācca kaikeyyā: svargam daśaratho gatḥ||2.112.6||

Translation

वयम् we, इमं रामम् this Rama, सदा always, पितुः as regards his father, अनृणम् free from debt, इच्छामहे we desire, दशरथः Dasaratha, कैकेय्याः to Kaikeyi, अनृणत्वाच्च by discharging his obligation, स्वर्गम् heaven, गतः ascended.

Meaning

We always desire that Rama should discharge his debt to his father. Dasaratha, who by redeeming himself of his obligation to Kaikeyi, had ascended heaven.

AK-112-7Ayodhya Kanda 112.7

एतावदुक्त्वा वचनं गन्धर्वा: स‌महर्षयः। राजर्षयश्चैव तदा सर्वे स्वां स्वां गतिं गताः।।2.112.7।।

etāvaduktvā vacanṃ gandharvā: sa‌maharṣayḥ| rājarṣayaścaiva tadā sarve svāṃ svāṃ gatiṃ gatāḥ||2.112.7||

Translation

तदा then, समहर्षयः with great rishis, गन्धर्वाः gandharvas, राजर्षयश्चैव and royal sages, एतावत् upto this extent, वचनम् word, उक्त्वा having spoken, सर्वे all, स्वां स्वाम् to their respective, गतिम् abode, गताः went.

Meaning

Then the great rishis, gandharvas and royal sages having said this, returned to their respective abodes.

AK-112-8Ayodhya Kanda 112.8

ह्लादितस्तेन वाक्येन शुभेन शुभदर्शनः। राम स्संहृष्टवदनस्तानृषीनभ्यपूजयत्।।2.112.8।।

hlāditastena vākyena śubhena śubhadarśanḥ| rāma ssṃhṛṣṭavadanastānṛṣīnabhyapūjayat||2.112.8||

Translation

शुभदर्शनः of auspicious appearance, रामः Rama, शुभेन by the auspicious, तेन वाक्येन by that statement, ह्लादितः was gladdened, संहृष्टवदनः with delightful countenance, तान् ऋषीन् those rishis, अभ्यपूजयत् paid homage.

Meaning

Of pleasing appearance, Rama, gladdened by the auspicious statements (of the sages), paid them homage with a cheerful countenance.

AK-112-9Ayodhya Kanda 112.9

त्रस्तगात्रस्तु भरतस्स वाचा सज्जमानया। कृताञ्जलिरिदं वाक्यं राघवं पुनरब्रवीत्।।2.112.9।।

trastagātrastu bharatassa vācā sajjamānayā| kṛtāñjaliridṃ vākyṃ rāghavṃ punarabravīt||2.112.9||

Translation

सः भरतत्तु as for Bharata, त्रस्तगात्रः limbs trembling, कृताञ्जलिः with palms folded (in reverence), सज्जमानया got ready, वाचा words, पुनः again, राघवम् to Rama, इदं वाक्यम् these word, अब्रवीत् said.

Meaning

Before Bharata, with his limbs trembling and with palms folded (in reverence) was ready to depart, he said to Rama:

AK-112-10Ayodhya Kanda 112.10

राजधर्ममनुप्रेक्ष्य कुलधर्मानुसन्ततिम्। कर्तुमर्हसि काकुत्स्थ मम मातुश्च याचनाम्।।2.112.10।।

rājadharmamanuprekṣya kuladharmānusantatim| kartumarhasi kākutstha mama mātuśca yācanām||2.112.10||

Translation

काकुत्स्थ O Kakutstha, राजधर्मम् code of kings, कुलधर्मानुसन्ततिम् to abide by the traditional code of our family, अनुप्रेक्ष्य having considered, मम my, मातुश्च also mother's, याचनाम् supplication, कर्तुम् to do, अर्हसि behoves you.

Meaning

O Rama, keeping in view the code of kings and tradition of our family, it behoves you to consider my supplication and that of my mother.

AK-112-11Ayodhya Kanda 112.11

रक्षितुं सुमहद्राज्यमहमेकस्तु नोत्सहे। पौरजानपदांश्चापि रक्तान्रञ्जयितुं तथा।।2.112.11।।

rakṣituṃ sumahadrājyamahamekastu notsahe| paurajānapadāṃścāpi raktānrañjayituṃ tathā||2.112.11||

Translation

अहम् I, एकस्तु am alone, सुमहत् this vast, राज्यम् kingdom, रक्षितुम् to protect, रक्तान् loyal पौरजानपदान् inhabitants of the town and villages, रञ्जयितुम् to please, नोत्सहे I do not venture.

Meaning

I do not venture to protect this kingdom all by myself and keep the inhabitants of the towns and villages who are loyal to you pleased.

AK-112-12Ayodhya Kanda 112.12

ज्ञातयश्च हि योधाश्च मित्राणि सुहृदश्च नः। त्वामेव प्रतिवीक्षन्ते पर्जन्यमिव कर्षकाः।।2.112.12।।

jñātayaśca hi yodhāśca mitrāṇi suhṛdaśca nḥ| tvāmeva prativīkṣante parjanyamiva karṣakāḥ||2.112.12||

Translation

नः our, ज्ञातयश्च relatives, योधाश्च warriors, मित्राणि friends, सुहृदश्च wellwishers, त्वामेव you alone, कर्षकाः farmers, पर्जन्यमिव like rainbearing cloud, प्रतिवीक्षन्ते are longing.

Meaning

All our relatives, warriors, friends and wellwishers long to see you like farmers yearn for the raincloud.

AK-112-13Ayodhya Kanda 112.13

इदं राज्यं महाप्राज्ञ स्थापय प्रतिपद्य हि। शक्तिमानसि काकुत्स्थ लोकस्य परिपालने।।2.112.13।।

idṃ rājyṃ mahāprājña sthāpaya pratipadya hi| śaktimānasi kākutstha lokasya paripālane||2.112.13||

Translation

महाप्राज्ञ O sagacious one, इदं राज्यम् this kingdom, प्रतिपद्य after accepting, स्थापय establish, काकुत्स्थ Kakutstha, लोकस्य this world's, परिपालने in governance, शक्तिमान् असि you are powerful.

Meaning

O sagacious Rama, accept this kingdom and ensure its stability. You are powerful enough to govern this world. So accept this kingdom and restore its stability.

AK-112-14Ayodhya Kanda 112.14

इत्युक्त्वा न्यपतद्भ्रातुः पादयोर्भरतस्तदा। भृशं सम्प्रार्थयामास राममेव प्रियंवदः।।2.112.14।।

ityuktvā nyapatadbhrātuḥ pādayorbharatastadā| bhṛśṃ samprārthayāmāsa rāmameva priyṃvadḥ||2.112.14||

Translation

भरतः Bharata, तदा then, इति thus, उक्त्वा having said, भ्रातुः brother's, पादयोः at the feet, न्यपतत् fell, प्रियंवदः one who speaks sweetly, Bharata, रामम् एव Rama alone, भृशम् profusely, सम्प्रार्थयामास entreated him.

Meaning

Having said this, Bharata, fell at the feet of his brother, and speaking sweetly, he profusely entreated Rama.

AK-112-15Ayodhya Kanda 112.15

तमङ्के भरतं कृत्वा रामो वचनमब्रवीत्। श्यामं नलिनपत्राक्षं मत्तहंसस्वरं स्वयम्।।2.112.15।।

tamaṅke bharatṃ kṛtvā rāmo vacanamabravīt| śyāmṃ nalinapatrākṣṃ mattahṃsasvarṃ svayam||2.112.15||

Translation

रामः Rama, श्यामम् dark complexioned, नलिनपत्राक्षम् man with eyes like lotus petals, मत्तहंस स्वरम् voice of an amorous swan, तं भरतम् to that Bharata, स्वयम् personally, अङ्के into his lap, कृत्वा drawing, वचनम् these words, अब्रवीत् said.

Meaning

Rama took his in his arms Bharata who had a darkblue complexion, whose eyes were like petals of lotus and whose voice was the voice of an amorous swan.

AK-112-16Ayodhya Kanda 112.16

आगता त्वामियं बुद्धिस्स्वजा वैनयिकी च या। भृशमुत्सहसे तात रक्षितुं पृथिवीमपि।।2.112.16।।

āgatā tvāmiyṃ buddhissvajā vainayikī ca yā| bhṛśamutsahase tāta rakṣituṃ pṛthivīmapi||2.112.16||

Translation

तातः O child, स्वजा innate, वैनयिकी च though training (received from a preceptor), या बुद्धि: such wisdom, त्वाम् you, आगता reached, पृथिवीम् to the earth, रक्षितुम् अपि even to protect, भृशम् perfectly, उत्सहसे you are capable.

Meaning

O child, this wisdom of yours is both inborn and imbibed through training. With this, you are perfectly capable of protecting the earth.

AK-112-17Ayodhya Kanda 112.17

अमात्यैश्च सुहृद्भिश्च बुद्धिमद्भिश्च मन्त्रिभिः। सर्वकार्याणि सम्मन्त्र्य सुमहन्त्यपि कारय।।2.112.17।।

amātyaiśca suhṛdbhiśca buddhimadbhiśca mantribhiḥ| sarvakāryāṇi sammantrya sumahantyapi kāraya||2.112.17||

Translation

अमात्यैश्च with ministers, सुहृद्भिश्च with friends, बुद्धिमद्भि: with the prudent, मन्त्रिभिश्च with the counsellors, सम्मन्त्र्य consulting, सुमहन्त्यपि however great they might appear, सर्वकार्याणि all endeavours, कारय you may get them done.

Meaning

After due consultation with ministers, friends, counsellors and prudent persons, accomplish all tasks, however formidable they may appear.

AK-112-18Ayodhya Kanda 112.18

लक्ष्मीश्चन्द्रादपेयाद्वा हिमवान्वा हिमं त्यजेत्। अतीयात्सागरो वेलां न प्रतिज्ञामहं पितुः।।2.112.18।।

lakṣmīścandrādapeyādvā himavānvā himṃ tyajet| atīyātsāgaro velāṃ na pratijñāmahṃ pituḥ||2.112.18||

Translation

चन्द्रात् from the Moon, लक्ष्मीः splendour, अपेयाद्वा might withdraw, हिमवान् Himavat mountain, हिमम् snow, त्यजेद्वा might abandon, सागरः ocean, वेलाम् its shores, अतीयात् might overstep, अहम् I, पितुः to father, प्रतिज्ञाम् promise, न shall not forsake.

Meaning

The Moon might lose its splendour, snow might abandon the Himavat mountain, the ocean might overstep its shores, but I shall not forsake the promise made to my father.

AK-112-19Ayodhya Kanda 112.19

कामाद्वा तात लोभाद्वा मात्रातुभ्यमिदं कृतम्। न तन्मनसि कर्तव्यं वर्तितव्यं च मातृवत्।।2.112.19।।

kāmādvā tāta lobhādvā mātrātubhyamidṃ kṛtam| na tanmanasi kartavyṃ vartitavyṃ ca mātṛvat||2.112.19||

Translation

तात child, कामाद्वा either out of affection, लोभाद्वा or out of covetousness, मात्रा by your mother, तुभ्यम् for your sake, इदम् this, कृतम् was done, तत् that, मनसि in your mind, न कर्तव्यम् should not be taken seriously, मातृवत् as to one's own mother, वर्तिव्यम् you should conduct.

Meaning

Dear brother, whether out of affection or greed, your mother has done this for your sake. It should not agitate your mind. You should conduct yourself as one should towards one's mother.

AK-112-20Ayodhya Kanda 112.20

एवं ब्रुवाणं भरतः कौसल्यासुतमब्रवीत्। तेजसाऽऽदित्यसङ्काशं प्रतिपच्चन्द्रदर्शनम्।।2.112.20।।

evṃ bruvāṇṃ bharatḥ kausalyāsutamabravīt| tejasā''dityasaṅkāśṃ pratipaccandradarśanam||2.112.20||

Translation

भरतः Bharata, एवम् in this way, ब्रुवाणम् speaking, तेजसा in brilliance, आदित्यसङ्काशम् resembling the Sun, प्रतिपच्चन्द्रदर्शनम् appearance like the new Moon, कौसल्यासुतम् to the son of Kausalya, अब्रवीत् said.

Meaning

On hearing this, Bharata replied to the son of Kausalya who looked like the Sun or the new Moon in brilliance:

AK-112-21Ayodhya Kanda 112.21

आधिरोहाऽर्य पादाभ्यां पादुके हेमभूषिते। एतेहि सर्वलोकस्य योगक्षेमं विधास्यतः।।2.112.21।।

ādhirohā'rya pādābhyāṃ pāduke hemabhūṣite| etehi sarvalokasya yogakṣemṃ vidhāsyatḥ||2.112.21||

Translation

आर्य O noble one, हेमभूषिते decorated with gold, पादुके sandals, पादाभ्याम् from your feet, अधिरोह get into, एते these, सर्वलोकस्य of the entire world, योगक्षेमम् safety, विधास्यतः हि are going to secure.

Meaning

O noble one, place your feet on these sandals decorated with gold. They will secure the prosperity and safety of the entire world.

AK-112-22Ayodhya Kanda 112.22

सोऽधिरुह्य नरव्याघ्रः पादुके ह्यवरुह्य च। प्रायच्छत्सुमहातेजा भरताय महात्मने।।2.112.22।।

so'dhiruhya naravyāghrḥ pāduke hyavaruhya ca| prāyacchatsumahātejā bharatāya mahātmane||2.112.22||

Translation

नरव्याघ्रः the best of men, सुमहातेजाः of great brilliance, सः that Rama, पादुके sandals, अधिरुह्य putting on, अवरुह्य च putting off, महात्मने to the magnanimous, भरताय to Bharata, प्रायच्छत् gave.

Meaning

Rama, the best of men, one with great brilliance, put on and then put off the sandals and presented them to the magnanimous Bharata.

AK-112-23-24Ayodhya Kanda 112.23–24 (युग्मम्)

स पादुके सम्प्रणम्य रामं वचनमब्रवीत् चतुर्दश हि वर्षाणि जटाचीरधरो ह्याहम्।।2.112.23।। फलमूलाशनो वीर भवेयं रघुनन्दन। तवाऽगमनमाकाङ्क्षान्वसन्वै नगराद्बहिः।।2.112.24।। तव पादुकयोर्न्यस्तराज्यतन्त्रः परन्तप।

sa pāduke sampraṇamya rāmṃ vacanamabravīt caturdaśa hi varṣāṇi jaṭācīradharo hyāham||2.112.23|| phalamūlāśano vīra bhaveyṃ raghunandana| tavā'gamanamākāṅkṣānvasanvai nagarādbahiḥ||2.112.24|| tava pādukayornyastarājyatantrḥ parantapa|

Translation

सः that Bharata, पादुके to the sandals, सम्प्रणम्य bowing down, रामम् to Rama, वचनम् words, अब्रवीत् said, परन्तप O tormentor of enemies, वीर O hero, रघुनन्दन Rama, अहम् I, चतुर्दश वर्षाणि fourteen years, जटाचीरधरः wearing matted locks and bark garments, फलमूलाशनः living on fruits and roots, तव your, पादुकयोः on your sandals, न्यस्तराज्यतन्त्रः placing the responsibility of ruling this kingdom, तव your, आगमनम् arrival, आकाङ्क्षन् looking forward, नगरात् from the city, बहिः outside, वसन् residing, भवेयम् I shall remain.

Meaning

Bharata bowed before the sandals and said to Rama, 'O tormentorr of enemies, O hero, wearing matted locks and bark garments, living on fruits and roots, placing the responsibility of ruling the kingdom on your sandals and looking forward to your arrival, I shall reside outside the city for fourteen years.'

AK-112-25Ayodhya Kanda 112.25

चतुर्दशे तु संपूर्णे वर्षेऽहनि रघूत्तम।।2.112.25।। न द्रक्ष्यामि यदि त्वां तु प्रवेक्ष्यामि हुताशनम्।

caturdaśe tu sṃpūrṇe varṣe'hani raghūttama||2.112.25|| na drakṣyāmi yadi tvāṃ tu pravekṣyāmi hutāśanam|

Translation

रघूत्तम O best of the Raghus, चतुर्दशे when fourteen, वर्षे years, संपूर्णे have passed, अहनि on that day, त्वाम् you, न द्रक्ष्यामि यदि if I do not behold, हुताशनम् blazing fire, प्रवेक्ष्यामि I shall enter.

Meaning

O best of the Raghus, if I do not behold you on the day after completion of fourteen years I shall enter the blazing fire.

AK-112-26Ayodhya Kanda 112.26

तथेति च प्रतिज्ञाय तं परिष्वज्य सादरम्।।2.112.26।। शत्रुघ्नं च परिष्वज्य भरतं चेदमब्रवीत्।

tatheti ca pratijñāya tṃ pariṣvajya sādaram||2.112.26|| śatrughnṃ ca pariṣvajya bharatṃ cedamabravīt|

Translation

तथेति be it so, प्रतिज्ञाय having promised, तम् to that Bharata, सादरम् affectionately, परिष्वज्य having embraced, शत्रुघ्नम् Satrughna, परिष्वज्य having embraced, भरतं च also Bharata, इदम् these words, अब्रवीत् spoke.

Meaning

'Be it so', assured Rama and then affectionately embracing both Bharata and Satrughna, said to Bharata:

AK-112-27-28Ayodhya Kanda 112.27–28 (युग्मम्)

मातरं रक्ष कैकेयीं मा रोषं कुरु तां प्रति।।2.112.27।। मया च सीतया चैव शप्तोऽसि रघुसत्तम। इत्युक्त्वाऽश्रुपरीताक्षो भ्रातरं विससर्ज ह।।2.112.28।।

mātarṃ rakṣa kaikeyīṃ mā roṣṃ kuru tāṃ prati||2.112.27|| mayā ca sītayā caiva śapto'si raghusattama| ityuktvā'śruparītākṣo bhrātarṃ visasarja ha||2.112.28||

Translation

रघुसत्तम O chief of the Raghus, मातरम् mother, कैकेयीम् Kaikeyi, रक्ष protect, तां प्रति to her, रोषम् anger, मा कुरु do not show, मया च by me, सीतया चैव on Sita, शप्तः असि are being sworn, इति like this, उक्त्वा having said, अश्रुपरीताक्षः with the eyes filled with tears, भ्रातरम् brother, विससर्ज ह took leave of.

Meaning

Look after your mother, O chief of the Raghus Do not be angry with her. Swear in my name and in the name of Sita. So saying, eyes filled with tears, Rama took leave of his brother.

AK-112-29Ayodhya Kanda 112.29

स पादुके ते भरतः प्रतापवान् स्वलङ्कृते सम्परिपूज्य धर्मवित्। प्रदक्षिणं चैव चकार राघवम् चकार ते चोत्तमनागमूर्धनि।।2.112.29।।

sa pāduke te bharatḥ pratāpavān svalaṅkṛte samparipūjya dharmavit| pradakṣiṇṃ caiva cakāra rāghavam cakāra te cottamanāgamūrdhani||2.112.29||

Translation

प्रतापवान् the valiant, धर्मवित् knower of righteousness, सः भरतः that Bharata, स्वलङ्कृते welldecorated, ते those, पादुके sandals, सम्परिपूज्य having worshipped, राघवम् to Rama, प्रदक्षिणम् circumambulation, चकार performed, ते those sandals, उत्तमनागमूर्धनि atop the best of elephants, चकार made.

Meaning

The valiant and righteous Bharata, worshipped the welldecorated sandals and after circumambulating Rama reverentially placed them atop the best of elephants.

AK-112-30Ayodhya Kanda 112.30

अथाऽनुपूर्व्यात्प्रतिनन्द्य तं जनं गुरूंश्च मन्त्रिप्रकृतीस्तथाऽनुजौ। व्यसर्जयद्राघववंशवर्धनस्थिरः स्वधर्मे हिमवानिवाचलः।।2.112.30।।

athā'nupūrvyātpratinandya tṃ janṃ gurūṃśca mantriprakṛtīstathā'nujau| vyasarjayadrāghavavṃśavardhanasthirḥ svadharme himavānivācalḥ||2.112.30||

Translation

अथ thereafter, राघववंशवर्धनः one who enhances the progeny of the Raghu dynasty, स्वधर्मे in his code of righteousness, हिमवान् Himavat, अचलः इव like the unshakable mountain, स्थिरः firm, तं जनम् those people, अनुपूर्व्या in accordance with their rank, प्रतिनन्द्य having greeted, गुरूंश्च to preceptors, मन्त्रिप्रकृतीः ministers and subjects, तथा like that, अनुजौ wishing his younger brothers Bharata and Satrughna, व्यसर्जयत् sent them forth.

Meaning

Inflexibly fixed in his own code of righteouness, like the Himavat mountain, Rama, the enhancer of the progeny of the Raghu dynasty, paid respect due to the preceptors, ministers and subjects in accordance with their rank, blessed his younger brothers, Bharata and Satrughna and sent them forth.

तं मातरो बाष्पगृहीतकण्ठ्यो दुःखेन नामन्त्रयितुं हि शेकुः। स त्वेव मात्रृ़रभिवाद्य सर्वारुदन्कुटीं स्वां प्रविवेश राघवः।।2.112.31।।

tṃ mātaro bāṣpagṛhītakaṇṭhyo duḥkhena nāmantrayituṃ hi śekuḥ| sa tveva mātrṛ़rabhivādya sarvārudankuṭīṃ svāṃ praviveśa rāghavḥ||2.112.31||

Translation

दुःखेन in their grief, बाष्पगृहीतकण्ठ्य throats choked with sobs, मातरः mothers, तम् to him, अमन्त्रयितुं to bid farewell, न शेकुर्हि were not able, सः that, राघवः एव Rama himself, सर्वाः all, मात़ृ़: mothers, अभिवाद्य paying obeisance, रुदन् weeping, स्वाम् his, कुटीं hut, प्रविवेश entered.

Meaning

His mothers were unable to bid him farewell their throats were choked with tears of sorrow but Rama himself paid obeisance to them and entered his hut in tears. इत्यार्षे श्रीमद्रामायणे वाल्मीकीय आदिकाव्ये अयोध्याकाण्डे द्वादशोत्तरशततमस्सर्गः।। Thus ends the hundredtwelfth sarga in Ayodhyakanda of the holy Ramayana, the first epic composed by sage Valmiki.
