YK-13-1Yuddha Kanda 13.1

रावणंक्रुद्धमाज्ञायमहापार्श्वोमहाबलः । मुहूर्तमनुसञ्चिन्त्यप्राञ्जलिर्वाक्यमब्रवीत् ।।6.13.1।।

rāvaṇṃkruddhamājñāyamahāpārśvomahābalḥ | muhūrtamanusañcintyaprāñjalirvākyamabravīt ||6.13.1||

Translation

रावणम् Ravana, कृद्धम् became angry, आज्ञाय: having realized, महाबलः one of extraordinary strength, महापार्श्वः Mahaparsva, मुहूर्तम् for a short time, अनुसञ्चिन्त्य: thinking of pleasing, प्राञ्जलिः greeting with folded palms, वाक्यम् these words, अब्रवीत् spoke.

Meaning

Having realized that Ravana has become angry, Mahaparsva of extraordinary strength, thinking of pleasing him for a while greeting him with folded palms, spoke.

YK-13-2Yuddha Kanda 13.2

यःखल्वपिवनंप्राप्यमृगव्यालनिषेवितम् । नपिबेन्मधुसम्प्राप्यसनरोबालिशोभवेत् ।।6.13.2।।

yḥkhalvapivanṃprāpyamṛgavyālaniṣevitam | napibenmadhusamprāpyasanarobāliśobhavet ||6.13.2||

Translation

यः whoever, नरः human being, मृगव्यालनिषेवितम् inhabited by wild animals and snakes, वनम् forest, प्राप्य: reached, मधु: for honey, सम्प्राप्य: that which has been obtained, नपिबेत् not drink, सः he, ध्रुवम् surely, बालिशः childish.

Meaning

"Having reached a forest inhabited by wild animals and snakes for honey, whoever does not drink the honey obtained is surely a childish one."

YK-13-3Yuddha Kanda 13.3

ईश्वरस्येश्वरःकोऽस्तितवशत्रुनिबर्हण: । रमस्वसहवैदेह्याशत्रूनाक्रम्यमूर्धसु ।।6.13.3।।

īśvarasyeśvarḥko'stitavaśatrunibarhaṇa: | ramasvasahavaidehyāśatrūnākramyamūrdhasu ||6.13.3||

Translation

शत्रुनिबर्हण: destroyer of foes, ईश्वरस्य: to Lord, ईश्वरः Lord, कः who, अस्ति: so be it, शत्रून् enemy, मूर्धसु: on the head, आक्रम्य: setting your feet, वैदेह्या: Vaidehi, सह: with, रमस्व: you may sport.

Meaning

"O Destroyer of foes Who is there to question Lord since you are Lord? Setting your foot on the head of enemy you may sport with Sita."

YK-13-4Yuddha Kanda 13.4

बलात्कुक्कुटवृत्तेनप्रवर्तस्वमहाबल: । आक्रम्याक्रम्यसीतांवैतांभुङ् क्ष्वचरमस्वच ।।6.13.4।।

balātkukkuṭavṛttenapravartasvamahābala: | ākramyākramyasītāṃvaitāṃbhuṅ kṣvacaramasvaca ||6.13.4||

Translation

महाबल: of great strength, बलात् forcibly, कुक्कुटवृत्तेन: like the cock again and again, प्रवर्तस्व: using force, तांसीताम् on that Sita, आक्रम्य: taking hold, भुङ् क्ष्व: enjoy, रमस्वच: and revel.

Meaning

"(O Ravana) of great strength Take hold of Sita forcibly like the cock, enjoy and revel with her."

YK-13-5Yuddha Kanda 13.5

लब्धकामस्यतेपश्चादागमिष्यतियद्भयम् । प्राप्तमप्राप्तकालंवासर्वंप्रतिसहिष्यति ।।6.13.5।।

labdhakāmasyatepaścādāgamiṣyatiyadbhayam | prāptamaprāptakālṃvāsarvṃpratisahiṣyati ||6.13.5||

Translation

लब्दकामस्य: after fulfilling your desire, ते to you, पश्चात् in case, यद्भयम् fear of her, आगमिष्यतिप्राप्तम् let it come, अप्राप्तकालम् that which is yet to come, सर्वम् everything, प्रतिसहिष्यति: you will be able to face.

Meaning

"When you have fulfilled your desire, why fear? Let it happen. Let that which is yet to come, happen. You will be able to face."

YK-13-6Yuddha Kanda 13.6

कुम्भकर्णस्सहास्माभिरिन्द्रजिच्चमहाबलः । प्रतिषेधयितुंशक्तौसवज्रमपिवज्रिणम् ।।6.13.6।।

kumbhakarṇassahāsmābhirindrajiccamahābalḥ | pratiṣedhayituṃśaktausavajramapivajriṇam ||6.13.6||

Translation

अस्माभिस्सह: along with us, कुम्भकर्णः Kumbhakarna, महाबलः one of extraordinary strength, इन्द्रजित् च: even Indrajith, सवज्रम् wielder of thunder bolt, Indra, वज्रिणम् thunderbolt, अपि: also, प्रतिषेधयितुम् to ward off, शक्तौ: have the power.

Meaning

"Kumbhakarna accompanied by Indrajith of extraordinary strength have the power to ward off even if Indra, armed with thunderbolt comes."

YK-13-7Yuddha Kanda 13.7

उपप्रदानंसान्त्वंवाभेदंवाकुशलैःकृतम् । समतिक्रम्यदण्डेनसिद्धिमर्थेषुरोचये ।।6.13.7।।

upapradānṃsāntvṃvābhedṃvākuśalaiḥkṛtam | samatikramyadaṇḍenasiddhimartheṣurocaye ||6.13.7||

Translation

कुशलैः wise people, कृतम् done, उपप्रदानम् charity, सान्त्वंवा: Sama (conciliation) or, भेदंवा: or by bedha (dissension), समतिक्रम्य: leaving these, अर्थेषु: means, दण्डेन: by d and a (force ), सिद्धिम् success, रोचये: attained.

Meaning

"Leaving aside charity, conciliation or even by showing dissension, the three means resorted to by the wise people, you will attain success by force."

YK-13-8Yuddha Kanda 13.8

इहप्राप्तान्वयंसर्वान् शत्रूंस्तवमहाबल: । वशेशस्त्रप्रतापेनकरिष्यामोनसंशयः ।।6.13.8।।

ihaprāptānvayṃsarvān śatrūṃstavamahābala: | vaśeśastrapratāpenakariṣyāmonasṃśayḥ ||6.13.8||

Translation

महाबल: powerful one, वयम् we, इह: here, प्राप्तान् on arriving, तम: him, सर्वान् all, शत्रून् enemies, शस्त्रप्रतापेन: by the strength of arms, वशे: bring under your control, करिष्यामः will do, संशयः doubt, न: not.

Meaning

"O Ravana of extraordinary strength We will bring all your enemies under control on their arrival here. There is no doubt."

YK-13-9Yuddha Kanda 13.9

एवमुक्तस्तदाराजामहापार्श्वेनरावणः । तस्यसम्पूजयन्वाक्यमिदंवचनमब्रवीत् ।।6.13.9।।

evamuktastadārājāmahāpārśvenarāvaṇḥ | tasyasampūjayanvākyamidṃvacanamabravīt ||6.13.9||

Translation

तदा: then, महापार्श्वेन: by Mahaparsva, एवम् in that way, उक्तः having spoken, राजा: king, रावणः Ravana, तस्य: his, वाक्यम् statement, सम्पूजयन् feeling happy, इदम् these, वचनम् words, अब्रवीत् spoke.

Meaning

Ravana, the king of Rakshasas feeling happy about the statement of Mahaparsva, spoke these words.

YK-13-10Yuddha Kanda 13.10

महापार्श्वनिबोधत्वंरहस्यंकिञ्चिदात्मन: । चिरवृत्तंतदाख्यास्येयदवाप्तंपुरामया ।।6.13.10।।

mahāpārśvanibodhatvṃrahasyṃkiñcidātmana: | ciravṛttṃtadākhyāsyeyadavāptṃpurāmayā ||6.13.10||

Translation

महापार्श्व: O Mahaparsva, आत्मनः I myself, किञ्चित् certain, रहस्यम् secret, निबोध: listen to, पुरा: earlier, मया: by me, यत् that which, अवाप्तम् happened, चिरवृत्तम् long time ago, तत् that, आख्यास्ये: will tell.

Meaning

"O Mahaparsva I have certain secret that happened in the past. It was a long time ago and I shall tell you. Listen to it."

YK-13-11Yuddha Kanda 13.11

पितामहस्यभवनंगच्छन्तींपुञ्जिकस्थलाम् । चञ्चूर्यमाणामद्राक्षमाकाशेऽग्निशिखामिव ।।6.13.11।।

pitāmahasyabhavanṃgacchantīṃpuñjikasthalām | cañcūryamāṇāmadrākṣamākāśe'gniśikhāmiva ||6.13.11||

Translation

पितामहस्य: Brahma the grandfather, भवनम् abode, गच्छन्तीम् while going, आकाशे: in the sky, चञ्चुर्यमाणाम् concealing herself, अग्निशिखामिव: like the flame of fire, पुञ्जिकस्थलाम् Punjikasthala, अद्राक्षम् saw.

Meaning

"While I was going in the sky to the abode of Grandfather Brahma, I saw a celebrated one called Punjikasthala flying concealing herself, glowing like the flame of the fire."

YK-13-12Yuddha Kanda 13.12

साप्रसह्यमयाभुक्ताकृताविवसनाततः । स्वयम्भूभवनंप्राप्तालोलितानलिनीयथा ।।6.13.12।।

sāprasahyamayābhuktākṛtāvivasanātatḥ | svayambhūbhavanṃprāptālolitānalinīyathā ||6.13.12||

Translation

विवसना: stripped of clothes, कृता: did, सा: to her, मया: by me, प्रसह्य: forcibly, भुक्ता: enjoyed her, ततः then, लोलिता: shaken violently, नलिनीयथा: like the lotus stem, स्वयम्भूभवनम् abode of selfborn Brahma, गता: went.

Meaning

"Then her clothes were stripped off by me forcibly and enjoyed her. Then like a violently shaken lotus stem, she went to the abode of Brahma."

YK-13-13Yuddha Kanda 13.13

तच्चतस्यतदामन्येज्ञातमासीन्महात्मनः । अथसङ्कुपितोदेवोमामिदंवाक्यमब्रवीत् ।।6.13.13।।

taccatasyatadāmanyejñātamāsīnmahātmanḥ | athasaṅkupitodevomāmidṃvākyamabravīt ||6.13.13||

Translation

तदा: then, तच्च: that incident, महात्मनः high souled, तस्य: it, ज्ञातम् known, आसीत् as it happened, मन्ये: I believe, अथ: and then, सङ्कुपितः highly enraged, देवो: Brahma, मां: to me, इदम् these, वाक्यम् statement, अब्रवीत् spoke.

Meaning

"Then the high souled Brahma happened to know about that incident, I believe. Enraged Brahma made this statement to me."

YK-13-14Yuddha Kanda 13.14

अद्यप्रभृतियामन्याबलान्नारींगमिष्यसि । तदातेशतधामूर्धाफलिष्यतिनसंशयः ।।6.13.14।।

adyaprabhṛtiyāmanyābalānnārīṃgamiṣyasi | tadāteśatadhāmūrdhāphaliṣyatinasṃśayḥ ||6.13.14||

Translation

अद्यप्रभृति: from today onwards, अन्याम् other, नारीम् women, गमिष्यसि: reach, तदा: then, ते: your, मूर्दा: head, शतधाफलिष्यति: will break into hundred pieces, संशय: doubt, न: no.

Meaning

"From today onwards if you desire to resort to a woman forcefully, your head will break into a hundred pieces. There is no doubt."

YK-13-15Yuddha Kanda 13.15

इत्यहंतस्यशापस्यभीतःप्रसभमेवताम् । नारोहयेबलात्सीतांवैदेहींशयनेशुभे ।।6.13.15।।

ityahṃtasyaśāpasyabhītḥprasabhamevatām | nārohayebalātsītāṃvaidehīṃśayaneśubhe ||6.13.15||

Translation

इति: thus, तस्य: that, शापस्य: on account of that curse, भीतः frightened, अहम् I, वैदेहीम् to Vaidehi, सीताम् Sita प्रसभमेव: perforce, बलात् by strength, शुभे: lustrous, शयने: bed नारोहये: not able to get.

Meaning

"Thus, frightened on account of his curse, I do not perforce to get her to my lustrous bed."

YK-13-16Yuddha Kanda 13.16

सागरस्येनमेवेगोमारुतस्येवमेगतिः । नैतद्दाशरथिर्वेदह्यासादयतितेनमाम् ।।6.13.16।।

sāgarasyenamevegomārutasyevamegatiḥ | naitaddāśarathirvedahyāsādayatitenamām ||6.13.16||

Translation

मे: my, वेगः speed, सागरस्येव: like that of ocean, मे: to me, गतिः movement, मारुतस्येन: like that of wind, एतत् all this, दाशरथिः Rama, son of Dasaratha, नवेद: not know, तेन: therefore, माम् me, आसादयतिहि: coming to attack.

Meaning

"My speed is like that of the ocean, my movement is like that of the wind and Dasaratha's son does not know this. Therefore, he is coming to attack me."

YK-13-17Yuddha Kanda 13.17

कोहिसिंहमिवासीनंसुप्तंगिरिगुहाशये । क्रुद्धंमृत्युमिवाऽसीनंसम्भोधयितुमिच्छति ।।6.13.17।।

kohisiṃhamivāsīnṃsuptṃgiriguhāśaye | kruddhṃmṛtyumivā'sīnṃsambhodhayitumicchati ||6.13.17||

Translation

गिरिगुहाशये: dwelling in the mountain cave, आसीनम् seated, सुप्तम् sleeping, सिंहम् इव: lion like, आसीनम् seated, क्रुद्धम् one who is angry मृत्युम् इव: like waking up death, कोहि: What sort of a person, सम्भोधयितुम् instigating, इच्छति: desiring.

Meaning

"He is waking me up like waking up a lion sleeping in the mountain cave. Like waking up death from sleep, he is desiring to instigate me. What sort of a person is he?"

YK-13-18Yuddha Kanda 13.18

नमत्तोनिशितान्बाणान्द्विजिह्वान्पन्नगानिव । रामःपश्यतिसङ्ग्रामेतेनमामभिगच्छति ।।6.13.18।।

namattoniśitānbāṇāndvijihvānpannagāniva | rāmḥpaśyatisaṅgrāmetenamāmabhigacchati ||6.13.18||

Translation

रामः Rama, मत्तः from me, निशितान् sharp, द्विजिह्वान् of forked flame like fire, पन्नगानिव: like snakes, बाणान् arrows, सङ्ग्रामे: in combat, नपश्यति: not seen, तेन: so, माम् at me, अभिगच्छति: coming towards.

Meaning

"Rama has not seen my sharp arrows in comb at that are like the forked flame like the tongues of snakes. So, he is coming towards me."

YK-13-19Yuddha Kanda 13.19

क्षिप्रंवज्रसमैर्बाणैश्शतथाकार्मुकच्युतैः । राममादीपयिष्यामिउल्काभिरिवकुञ्जरम् ।।6.13.19।।

kṣiprṃvajrasamairbāṇaiśśatathākārmukacyutaiḥ | rāmamādīpayiṣyāmiulkābhirivakuñjaram ||6.13.19||

Translation

शतथा: in hundreds, कार्मुकच्युतैः released from my bow, वज्रसमैः like thunderbolt, बाणैः arrows, रामम् at Rama, उल्काभिः meteors, कुञ्जरम् इव: like the elephants, क्षिप्रम् at once, आदीपयिष्यामि: I will blaze up.

Meaning

At once with thunderbolts and meteor like arrows released from my bow will blaze up Rama just like fire sticks whirled at elephants.

YK-13-20Yuddha Kanda 13.20

तच्चास्यबलमादास्येबलेनमहतावृतः । उदितस्सविताकालेनक्षत्राणामिवप्रभाम् ।।6.13.20।।

taccāsyabalamādāsyebalenamahatāvṛtḥ | uditassavitākālenakṣatrāṇāmivaprabhām ||6.13.20||

Translation

महता: huge, बलेन: army, वृतः surrounded by, काले: early, morning उदितः rising, सविता: Sun, नक्षत्राणामिव: like the stars, प्रभाम् with radiance, अस्य: his, तत् that, बलम् army, आदास्ये: split up.

Meaning

"Surrounded by a huge army I will split up his army like the morning Sun splits up stars with his radiance."

YK-13-21Yuddha Kanda 13.21

नवासनेनापिसहस्रचक्षुषायुधाऽस्मिशक्योवरुणेनवापुनः । मयात्वियंबाहुबलेननिर्जितापुरापुरीवैश्रवणेनपालिता ।।6.13.21।।

navāsanenāpisahasracakṣuṣāyudhā'smiśakyovaruṇenavāpunḥ | mayātviyṃbāhubalenanirjitāpurāpurīvaiśravaṇenapālitā ||6.13.21||

Translation

सहस्रचक्षुषा: thousand eyed one, Indra, वासवेनापि: even Lord of gods, वरुणेनवा: even Lord Varuna, पुनः again, युधा: in combat, नशक्यः not possible आस्मि: to with stand me, पुरा: in the past, वैश्रवणेन: by Kubera, पालिता: ruled, इयंपुरी: this city, मया: by me, बाहुबलेना: huge strength, निर्जिता: won.

Meaning

"Even for the thousand eyed Indra or Lord Varuna it is not possible to withstand me in combat. In the past I have won this city ruled by Kubera with huge strength." ।।इत्यार्षेवाल्मीकीयेश्रीमद्रामायणेआदिकाव्येयुद्धकाण्डेत्रयोदशस्सर्गः।। This is the end of the thirteenth sarga of Yuddha Kanda of the first epic the holy Ramayana composed by sage Valmiki.
