AK-45-1Ayodhya Kanda 45.1

अनुरक्ता महात्मानं रामं सत्यपराक्रमम्। अनुजग्मुः प्रयान्तं तं वनवासाय मानवाः।।2.45.1।।

anuraktā mahātmānṃ rāmṃ satyaparākramam| anujagmuḥ prayāntṃ tṃ vanavāsāya mānavāḥ||2.45.1||

Translation

अनुरक्ताः devoted, मानवाः men, वनवासाय to dwell in the forest, प्रयान्तम् setting out, महात्मानम् great, सत्यपराक्रमम् to one whose truth is his power, तं रामम् that Rama, अनुजग्मुः followed him.

Meaning

When the highsouled Rama whose strength was his sense of truth set out for the forest, the faithful people followed him.

AK-45-2Ayodhya Kanda 45.2

निवर्तितेऽपि च बलात्सुहृद्वर्गे च राजनि। नैव ते संन्यवर्तन्त रामस्यानुगता रथम्।।2.45.2।।

nivartite'pi ca balātsuhṛdvarge ca rājani| naiva te sṃnyavartanta rāmasyānugatā ratham||2.45.2||

Translation

सुहृद्वर्गे when hosts of friends, राजनि च and when the king, बलात् forcibly, निवर्तितेऽपि च though sent back, रामस्य Rama's, रथम् chariot, अनुगताः followers, ते those people, नैव संन्यवर्तन्त did not return.

Meaning

The king and the hosts of friends were forcibly sent back but they did not return. They continued to follow the chariot of Rama.

AK-45-3Ayodhya Kanda 45.3

अयोध्यानिलयानां हि पुरुषाणां महायशाः। बभूव गुणसम्पन्नः पूर्णचन्द्र इव प्रियः।।2.45.3।।

ayodhyānilayānāṃ hi puruṣāṇāṃ mahāyaśāḥ| babhūva guṇasampannḥ pūrṇacandra iva priyḥ||2.45.3||

Translation

महायशाः illustrious, गुणसम्पन्नः endowed with virtue of every kind, अयोध्यानिलयानाम् dwelling in Ayodhya, पुरुषाणाम् for men, पूर्णचन्द्र इव like the full Moon, प्रियः बभूव हि became dear.

Meaning

The illustrious and virtuous Rama was as dear to the inhabitants of Ayodhya as the full Moon.

AK-45-4Ayodhya Kanda 45.4

स याच्यमानः काकुत्स्थः स्वाभिः प्रकृतिभिस्तदा। कुर्वाणः पितरं सत्यं वनमेवान्वपद्यत।।2.45.4।।

sa yācyamānḥ kākutsthḥ svābhiḥ prakṛtibhistadā| kurvāṇḥ pitarṃ satyṃ vanamevānvapadyata||2.45.4||

Translation

सः that, काकुत्स्थ: descendant of the Kakutsthas (Rama), तदा then, स्वाभिः his own, प्रकृतिभिः by the subjects, याच्यमानः although pleaded, पितरम् father's, सत्यम् as truthful, कुर्वाणः doing, वनमेव to the forest, अन्वपद्यत proceeded.

Meaning

Although entreated by his subjects (not to go) Rama proceeded to the forest to make his father's vow come true.

AK-45-5Ayodhya Kanda 45.5

अवेक्षमाणः सस्नेहं चक्षुषा प्रपिबन्निव। उवाच रामः स्नेहेन ताः प्रजाः स्वाः प्रजा इव।।2.45.5।।

avekṣamāṇḥ sasnehṃ cakṣuṣā prapibanniva| uvāca rāmḥ snehena tāḥ prajāḥ svāḥ prajā iva||2.45.5||

Translation

रामः Rama, चक्षुषा with eyes, प्रपिबन्निव as if drinking, ताः those, प्रजाः people, स्वाः his own, प्रजाः इव like children, सस्नेहम् (स्नेहेन) with affection, अवेक्षमाणः seeing, उवाच said.

Meaning

Looking at the people with love as if they were his own children and as though drinking them with his glances, Rama appealed to them:

AK-45-6Ayodhya Kanda 45.6

या प्रीतिर्बहुमानश्च मय्ययोध्यानिवासिनाम्। मत्प्रियार्थं विशेषेण भरते सा निवेश्यताम्।।2.45.6।।

yā prītirbahumānaśca mayyayodhyānivāsinām| matpriyārthṃ viśeṣeṇa bharate sā niveśyatām||2.45.6||

Translation

अयोध्यानिवासिनाम् of residents of Ayodhya, मयि in me, या प्रीतिः which love, बहुमानश्च also respect, सा that one, विशेषेण specially, मत्प्रियार्थं for endearing me, भरते in Bharata, निवेश्यताम् be placed on Bharata.

Meaning

O citizens of Ayodhya may the love and respect you have shown to please me be bestowed specially on Bharata

AK-45-7Ayodhya Kanda 45.7

स हि कल्याणचारित्रः कैकेय्यानन्दवर्धनः। करिष्यति यथावद्वः प्रियाणि च हितानि च।।2.45.7।।

sa hi kalyāṇacāritrḥ kaikeyyānandavardhanḥ| kariṣyati yathāvadvḥ priyāṇi ca hitāni ca||2.45.7||

Translation

कल्याणचारित्रः one having auspicious character, कैकेय्यानन्दवर्धनः enhancer of Kaikeyi's delight, सः that Bharata, यथावत् appropriate, वः to you, प्रियाणि agreeable, हितानि च beneficial acts also, करिष्यति हि will do.

Meaning

Bharata, enhancer of the delight of Kaikeyi, possesses an auspicious character. He will do for you everything appropriate, agreeable and beneficial.

AK-45-8Ayodhya Kanda 45.8

ज्ञानवृद्धो वयोबालो मृदुर्वीर्यगुणान्वितः। अनुरूपः स वो भर्ता भविष्यति भयापहः।।2.45.8।।

jñānavṛddho vayobālo mṛdurvīryaguṇānvitḥ| anurūpḥ sa vo bhartā bhaviṣyati bhayāpahḥ||2.45.8||

Translation

ज्ञानवृद्धः old in wisdom, वयोबालः young in age, मृदुः gentle, वीर्यगुणान्वितः endowed with valour and virtues, सः he, वः to you, अनुरूपः worthy one, भयापहः eliminating fears, भर्ता भविष्यति will be protector.

Meaning

Though tender in age Bharata is mature in intellect. Gentle, valiant and virtuous, he will dispel all your fears and act as a true protector.

AK-45-9Ayodhya Kanda 45.9

स हि राजगुणैर्युक्तो युवराजः समीक्षितः। अपि चापि मया शिष्टैः कार्यं वो भर्तृशासनम्।।2.45.9।।

sa hi rājaguṇairyukto yuvarājḥ samīkṣitḥ| api cāpi mayā śiṣṭaiḥ kāryṃ vo bhartṛśāsanam||2.45.9||

Translation

राजगुणैः royal qualities, युक्तः endowed with, सः that, युवराजः as heirapparent, समीक्षितः is recognised, अपि च also, मया by me, शिष्टैः by others, वः to you, भर्तृशासनम् king's order, कार्यम् should be obeyed.

Meaning

Endowed with kingly qualities, he is recognised as heirapparent. Therefore, as I did, all of you should obey the order of the king.

AK-45-10Ayodhya Kanda 45.10

न च सन्तप्येद्यथा चासौ वनवासं गते मयि। महाराजस्तथा कार्यो मम प्रियचिकीर्षया।।2.45.10।।

na ca santapyedyathā cāsau vanavāsṃ gate mayi| mahārājastathā kāryo mama priyacikīrṣayā||2.45.10||

Translation

मयि when I, वनवासम् to the forest, गते had left, असौ महाराजः this king, यथा as, न च सन्तप्येत् does not grieve, तथा in that way, मम to me, प्रिय चिकीर्षया with a desire to please, कार्यः fit to be done.

Meaning

If you desire to please me, act in such a way that the king does not grieve after I have gone to the forest.

AK-45-11Ayodhya Kanda 45.11

यथा यथा दाशरथि र्धर्म एवास्थितोऽभवत्। तथा तथा प्रकृतयो रामं पतिमकामयन्।।2.45.11।।

yathā yathā dāśarathi rdharma evāsthito'bhavat| tathā tathā prakṛtayo rāmṃ patimakāmayan||2.45.11||

Translation

दाशरथिः Dasaratha's son, Rama, यथा यथा such as, धर्मे एव in righteousness only, आस्थितः अभवत् became committed, तथा तथा in the same way, प्रकृतयः subjects, रामम् Rama, पतिम् as king, अकामयन् desired.

Meaning

The more the son of Dasaratha (Rama) committed to righteousness, the more the subjects desired that he should be their king.

AK-45-12Ayodhya Kanda 45.12

बाष्पेण पिहितं दीनं रामः सौमित्रिणा सह। चकर्षेव गुणैर्बद्ध्वा जनं पुरनिवासिनम्।।2.45.12।।

bāṣpeṇa pihitṃ dīnṃ rāmḥ saumitriṇā saha| cakarṣeva guṇairbaddhvā janṃ puranivāsinam||2.45.12||

Translation

सौमित्रिणा सह accompanied by the son of Sumitra (Lakshmana), रामः Rama, बाष्पेण with tears, पिहितम् concealed, दीनम् piteous, पुरनिवासिनम् citydwellers, जनम् people, गुणैः with his virtues, बद्ध्वा इव as if bound by, चकर्ष attracted.

Meaning

Rama along with Lakshmana attracted the citydwellers who, choked with tears, were looking miserable. It appeared they were bound with his virtues.

AK-45-13Ayodhya Kanda 45.13

ते द्विजास्त्रिविधं वृद्धा ज्ञानेन वयसौजसा। वयः प्रकम्पशिरसो दूरादूचुरिदं वचः।।2.45.13।।

te dvijāstrividhṃ vṛddhā jñānena vayasaujasā| vayḥ prakampaśiraso dūrādūcuridṃ vacḥ||2.45.13||

Translation

ज्ञानेन in wisdom, वयसा in age, ओजसा in spiritual energy, त्रिविधम् in all the three ways, वृद्धाः aged, ते द्विजाः those brahmins, वयः प्रकम्पशिरसः shaking due to old age, दूरात् from a distance, इदम् these, वचः words, ऊचुः spoke.

Meaning

Those brahmins who were senior (to him) on three counts like age, wisdom and spirtuality spoke to him from a distance with their heads shaking with age:

AK-45-14Ayodhya Kanda 45.14

वहन्तो जवना रामं भो भो जात्यास्तुरङ्गमाः। निवर्तध्वं न गन्तव्यं हिता भवत भर्तरि।।2.45.14।।

vahanto javanā rāmṃ bho bho jātyāsturaṅgamāḥ| nivartadhvṃ na gantavyṃ hitā bhavata bhartari||2.45.14||

Translation

रामम् Rama, वहन्तः conveying, जवनाः swift, जात्याः of noble breed, भो भो तुरङ्गमाः O horses, निवर्तध्वम् turn back, न गन्तव्यम् do not proceed, भर्तरि in your master (Rama), हिताः भवत be good.

Meaning

O horses of noble breed, turn back Do not carry your master swiftyly any farther. Do good to him.

AK-45-15Ayodhya Kanda 45.15

कर्णवन्ति हि भूतानि विशेषेण तुरङ्गमाः। यूयं तस्मान्निवर्तध्वं याचनां प्रतिवेदिताः।।2.45.15।।

karṇavanti hi bhūtāni viśeṣeṇa turaṅgamāḥ| yūyṃ tasmānnivartadhvṃ yācanāṃ prativeditāḥ||2.45.15||

Translation

भूतानि animals, कर्णवन्ति हि have keen sense of hearing, तुरङ्गमाः horses, विशेषेण especially, तस्मात् therefore, याचनाम् entreaty, प्रतिवेदिताः having known, यूयम् you, निवर्तध्वम् turn back.

Meaning

All animals, especially horses have a keen sense of hearing. Therefore, having listened to our entreaty, turn back.

AK-45-16Ayodhya Kanda 45.16

धर्मतः स विशुद्धात्मा वीरः शुभदृढव्रतः। उपवाह्यस्तु वो भर्ता नापवाह्यः पुराद्वनम्।।2.45.16।।

dharmatḥ sa viśuddhātmā vīrḥ śubhadṛḍhavratḥ| upavāhyastu vo bhartā nāpavāhyḥ purādvanam||2.45.16||

Translation

धर्मतः righteous, विशुद्धात्मा a purified soul, वीरः brave, शुभदृढव्रतः auspicious and firm in resolve, सः वः भर्ता your master, उपवाह्यः should be carried back, पुरात् from the city, वनम् to the forest, न अपवाह्यः should not carry.

Meaning

Your master has a purity of heart. He is righteous, virtuous, brave and firm in resolve, carry him backward and not forward from the city into the forest.

AK-45-17Ayodhya Kanda 45.17

एवमार्तप्रलापांस्तान् वृद्धान् प्रलपतो द्विजान्। अवेक्ष्य सहसा रामो रथादवततार ह।।2.45.17।।

evamārtapralāpāṃstān vṛddhān pralapato dvijān| avekṣya sahasā rāmo rathādavatatāra ha||2.45.17||

Translation

एवम् in this manner, आर्तप्रलापान् pitiful lamentations, प्रलपतः muttering, वृद्धान् aged, तान्द्विजान् those brahmins, अवेक्ष्य having seen, रामः Rama, सहसा immediately, रथात् from the chariot, अवततार ह alighted.

Meaning

Having seen the aged brahmins muttering pitiful lamentations in this manner, Rama immediately alighted from the chariot.

AK-45-18Ayodhya Kanda 45.18

पद्भ्यामेव जगामाथ ससीत स्सहलक्ष्मणः। सन्निकृष्टपदन्यासो रामो वनपरायणः।।2.45.18।।

padbhyāmeva jagāmātha sasīta ssahalakṣmaṇḥ| sannikṛṣṭapadanyāso rāmo vanaparāyaṇḥ||2.45.18||

Translation

अथ then, स सीतः along with Sita, सहलक्ष्मणः and Lakshmana, रामः Rama, वनपरायणः (moving) towards the forest, सन्निकृष्टपदन्यासः with a slow pace, पद्भ्याम् एव on foot alone, जगाम went.

Meaning

Then Rama along with Sita and Lakshmana began walking on foot with slow steps towards the forest.

AK-45-19Ayodhya Kanda 45.19

द्विजातींस्तु पदातींस्तान् रामश्चारित्रवत्सलः। न शशाक घृणाचक्षुः परिमोक्तुं रथेन सः।।2.45.19।।

dvijātīṃstu padātīṃstān rāmaścāritravatsalḥ| na śaśāka ghṛṇācakṣuḥ parimoktuṃ rathena sḥ||2.45.19||

Translation

चारित्रवत्सलः fond of probity, घृणाचक्षुः compassionate eyes, सः रामः that Rama, पदातीन् those walking on foot, तान् द्विजातीन् those brahmins, रथेन with the chariot, परिमोक्तुम् to leave them, न शशाक was not possible.

Meaning

Rama a man of probity and compassion could not ride off in his chariot while those brahmins were trudging far behind.

AK-45-20Ayodhya Kanda 45.20

गच्छन्तमेव तं दृष्ट्वा रामं सम्भ्रान्तचेतसः। ऊचुः परमसन्तप्ता रामं वाक्यमिदं द्विजाः।।2.45.20।।

gacchantameva tṃ dṛṣṭvā rāmṃ sambhrāntacetasḥ| ūcuḥ paramasantaptā rāmṃ vākyamidṃ dvijāḥ||2.45.20||

Translation

द्विजाः brahmins, गच्छन्तमेव thus going, तं रामम् that Rama, दृष्ट्वा having seen, सम्भ्रान्तचेतसः with agitated mind, परमसन्तप्ताः deeply distressed, इदं वाक्यम् these words, ऊचुः said.

Meaning

Having seen Rama thus going towards the forest, those brahmins, highly agitated and distressed, said to him:

AK-45-21Ayodhya Kanda 45.21

ब्राह्मण्यं सर्वमेतत्त्वां ब्रह्मण्यमनुगच्छति। द्विजस्कन्धाधिरूढास्त्वामग्नयोऽप्यनुयान्त्यमी।।2.45.21।।

brāhmaṇyṃ sarvametattvāṃ brahmaṇyamanugacchati| dvijaskandhādhirūḍhāstvāmagnayo'pyanuyāntyamī||2.45.21||

Translation

सर्वम् all, एतत् these, ब्राह्मण्यम् order of brahmins, ब्रह्मण्यम् seeking good of the brahmins, त्वाम् you, अनुगच्छति is following, अमी these, अग्नयः अपि sacred fires also, द्विजस्कन्धाधिरूढाः mounting on the shoulders of brahmins, त्वाम् you, अनुयान्ति following.

Meaning

This entire order of brahmins with the sacrificial fires on their hsoulders is following you, their wellwisher.

AK-45-22Ayodhya Kanda 45.22

वाजपेयसमुत्थानि छत्राण्येतानि पश्य नः। पृष्ठतोऽनुप्रयातानि मेघानिव जलात्यये।।2.45.22।।

vājapeyasamutthāni chatrāṇyetāni paśya nḥ| pṛṣṭhato'nuprayātāni meghāniva jalātyaye||2.45.22||

Translation

वाजपेयसमुत्थानि acquired while performing Vajapeya sacrifice, नः पृष्ठतः behind us, अनुप्रयातानि are coming, एतानि these, छत्राणि umbrellas, जलात्यये at the end of the rainy season, मेघानिव like clouds, पश्य please see.

Meaning

See these umbrellas acquired by us while performing Vajapeya sacrifice are following you like the clouds at the end of the rainy season.

AK-45-23Ayodhya Kanda 45.23

अनवाप्तातपत्रस्य रश्मिसन्तापितस्य ते। एभिश्छायां करिष्यामः स्वैश्छत्रैर्वाजपेयिकैः।।2.45.23।।

anavāptātapatrasya raśmisantāpitasya te| ebhiśchāyāṃ kariṣyāmḥ svaiśchatrairvājapeyikaiḥ||2.45.23||

Translation

अनवाप्तातपत्रस्य for one without an umbrella, रश्मिसन्तापितस्य of a man scorched with the rays of the Sun, ते to you, वाजपेयिकैः acquired during Vajapeya sacrifice, स्वैः by your own, छत्रैः with umbrellas, छायाम् shade, करिष्यामः will extend.

Meaning

You do not have a royal umbrella and you are scorched by the rays of the Sun. We will offer you shade with the umbrellas acquired during Vajapeya sacrifice.

AK-45-24Ayodhya Kanda 45.24

या हि नः सततं बुद्धिर्वेदमन्त्रानुसारिणी। त्वत्कृते सा कृता वत्स वनवासानुसारिणी।।2.45.24।।

yā hi nḥ satatṃ buddhirvedamantrānusāriṇī| tvatkṛte sā kṛtā vatsa vanavāsānusāriṇī||2.45.24||

Translation

वत्स dear child, न: our, या बुद्धि: mind, सततं always, वेदमन्त्रानुसारिणी follows Vedic hymns that one, त्वत्कृते for your sake, वनवासानुसारिणी one seeking the forest life, कृता is made.

Meaning

O dear child, our minds always pursue the study of vedic hymns. For your sake now they are made to follow the life in the forest.

AK-45-25Ayodhya Kanda 45.25

हृदयेष्वेव तिष्ठन्ति वेदा ये नः परं धनम्। वत्स्यन्त्यपि गृहेष्वेव दाराश्चारित्ररक्षिताः।।2.45.25।।

hṛdayeṣveva tiṣṭhanti vedā ye nḥ parṃ dhanam| vatsyantyapi gṛheṣveva dārāścāritrarakṣitāḥ||2.45.25||

Translation

नः our, परं धनम् greatest wealth, ये those, वेदाः the Vedas, हृदयेष्वेव in our hearts, तिष्ठन्ति are remaining, दारा अपि our wives also, चारित्ररक्षिताः protected by fidelity, गृहेष्वेव at home, वत्स्यन्ति shall stay.

Meaning

The Vedas are our greatest wealth and they reside in our hearts. Our wives, protected by their fidelity, shall stay at home.

AK-45-26Ayodhya Kanda 45.26

न पुनर्निश्चयः कार्यस्त्वद्गतौ सुकृता मतिः। त्वयि धर्मव्यपेक्षे तु किं स्याद्धर्मपथे स्थितम्।।2.45.26।।

na punarniścayḥ kāryastvadgatau sukṛtā matiḥ| tvayi dharmavyapekṣe tu kiṃ syāddharmapathe sthitam||2.45.26||

Translation

पुनः again (another), निश्चयः decision, न कार्यः should not be taken, त्वद्गतौ on your journey, मतिः mind, सुकृता is well set, त्वयि in you, धर्मव्यपेक्षे reluctant to follow 'dharma', धर्मपथे in the path of righteousness, किम् what?, स्थितं स्यात् is left now?

Meaning

We are not going to revoke our decision. We have made up our minds to follow you (into the forest). If you have no regard for this decision, then who will adhere to the path of righteousness?

AK-45-27Ayodhya Kanda 45.27

याचितो नो निवर्तस्व हंसशुक्लशिरोरुहैः। शिरोभिर्निभृताचार महीपतनपांसुलैः।।2.45.27।।

yācito no nivartasva hṃsaśuklaśiroruhaiḥ| śirobhirnibhṛtācāra mahīpatanapāṃsulaiḥ||2.45.27||

Translation

निभृताचार ever firm in duty, महीपतनपांसुलैः soiled with the dust fallen on the ground, हंसशुक्लशिरोरुहैः having hairs white like the (plumes of a) swan, नः our, शिरोभिः with our heads, याचितः beg of you, निवर्तस्व you may return.

Meaning

O Rama, you are firm in your duty.We beseech you, our heads bowed with swanwhite hair and soiled with dust, to return to Ayodhya.

AK-45-28Ayodhya Kanda 45.28

बहूनां वितता यज्ञा द्विजानां य इहागताः। तेषां समाप्तिरायत्ता तव वत्स निवर्तने।।2.45.28।।

bahūnāṃ vitatā yajñā dvijānāṃ ya ihāgatāḥ| teṣāṃ samāptirāyattā tava vatsa nivartane||2.45.28||

Translation

ये who, इह here, आगताः have arrived, बहूनाम् many, द्विजानाम् brahmins, यज्ञाः sacrifices, वितताः commenced, वत्स O dear child, तेषाम् their, समाप्तिः consummation, तव your, निवर्तने returning, आयत्ता is dependent.

Meaning

Many of those brahmins who arrived here have commenced their sacrifices. O dear child, their consummation depends on your return.

AK-45-29Ayodhya Kanda 45.29

भक्तिमन्ति हि भूतानि जङ्गमाजङ्गमानि च। याचमानेषु राम त्वं भक्तिं भक्तेषु दर्शय।।2.45.29।।

bhaktimanti hi bhūtāni jaṅgamājaṅgamāni ca| yācamāneṣu rāma tvṃ bhaktiṃ bhakteṣu darśaya||2.45.29||

Translation

राम Rama, जङ्गमाजङ्गमानि movable and immovable, भूतानि living beings, भक्तिमन्ति हि are devoted to you, त्वम् you, याचमानेषु supplicants, भक्तेषु in devotees, भक्तिम् devotion, दर्शय show.

Meaning

O Rama, all these living beings, movable and immovable, are devoted to you and are entreating you with devotion to return. Show consideration to those supplicants.

AK-45-30Ayodhya Kanda 45.30

अनुगन्तुमशक्ता स्त्वां मूलैरुद्धतवेगिनः। उन्नता वायुवेगेन विक्रोशन्तीव पादपाः।।2.45.30।।

anugantumaśaktā stvāṃ mūlairuddhataveginḥ| unnatā vāyuvegena vikrośantīva pādapāḥ||2.45.30||

Translation

मूलैः with their roots, उद्धतवेगिनः crushed with their speed, पादपाः trees, त्वाम् you, अनुगन्तुम् to follow, अशक्ताः unable, वायुवेगेन with the speed of wind, उन्नताः uplifted, विक्रोशन्तीव weeping like.

Meaning

Although the trees uplifted by the speed of the wind, intend to follow you, their movement is stalled by their roots. Unable, they appear to be weeping.

AK-45-31Ayodhya Kanda 45.31

निश्चेष्टाहारसञ्चारा वृक्षैकस्थानविष्ठिताः। पक्षिणोऽपि प्रयाचन्ते सर्वभूतानुकम्पिनम्।।2.45.31।।

niśceṣṭāhārasañcārā vṛkṣaikasthānaviṣṭhitāḥ| pakṣiṇo'pi prayācante sarvabhūtānukampinam||2.45.31||

Translation

पक्षिणोऽपि even the birds, निश्चेष्टाहारसञ्चाराः without foraging for food and wanderings, वृक्षैकस्थानविष्ठिताः perched on the trees at one place, सर्वभूतानुकम्पिनम् one compassionate to all creatures, प्रयाचन्ते are imploring.

Meaning

Even the birds instead of foraging for food are sitting motionless on the trees at one place. They are imploring you, you who are compassionate to all creatures, to return to Ayodhya.

AK-45-32Ayodhya Kanda 45.32

एवं विक्रोशतां तेषां द्विजातीनां निवर्तने। ददृशे तमसा तत्र वारयन्तीव राघवम्।।2.45.32।।

evṃ vikrośatāṃ teṣāṃ dvijātīnāṃ nivartane| dadṛśe tamasā tatra vārayantīva rāghavam||2.45.32||

Translation

एवम् in this way, निवर्तने seeking his return, तेषां द्विजातीनाम् those brahmins, विक्रोशताम् crying, तत्र there, तमसा Tamasa river, राघवम् Rama, वारयन्तीव as if preventing, ददृशे appeared.

Meaning

While those brahmins were thus crying out, river Tamasa came into view as if seeking Rama to turn back to Ayodhya.

AK-45-33Ayodhya Kanda 45.33

ततः सुमन्त्रोऽपि रथाद्विमुच्य श्रान्तान्हयान्सम्परिवर्त्य शीघ्रम्। पीतोदकांस्तोयपरिप्लुताङ्गा नचारयद्वै तमसाविदूरे।।2.45.33।।

tatḥ sumantro'pi rathādvimucya śrāntānhayānsamparivartya śīghram| pītodakāṃstoyapariplutāṅgā nacārayadvai tamasāvidūre||2.45.33||

Translation

ततः then, सुमन्त्रोऽपि Sumantra also, श्रान्तान् fatigued, हयान् horses, रथात् from the chariot, विमुच्य having unyoked, शीघ्रम् quickly, सम्परिवर्त्य allowing them to roll and relax, पीतोदकान् making them drink water, तोयपरिप्लुताङ्गान् bathing them in water, तमसाविदूरे not far from river Tamasa, अचारयत् made them graze.

Meaning

Then Sumantra also unyoked the fatigued horses from the chariot and quickly allowed them to roll and relax on the ground. Having made the horses drink and dip in water, he released them for grazing not far from Tamasa river. इत्यार्षे श्रीमद्रामायणे वाल्मीकीय आदिकाव्ये अयोध्याकाण्डे पञ्चचत्वारिंशस्सर्गः।। Thus ends the fortyfifth sarga of Ayodhyakanda of the holy Ramayana, the first epic composed by sage Valmiki.
