AK-12-1Aranya Kanda 12.1

सप्रविश्याऽश्रमपदं लक्ष्मणो राघवानुजः। अगस्त्यशिष्यमासाद्य वाक्यमेतदुवाच ह।।3.12.1।।

sapraviśyā'śramapadṃ lakṣmaṇo rāghavānujḥ| agastyaśiṣyamāsādya vākyametaduvāca ha||3.12.1||

Translation

राघवानुजः brother of Rama, सः लक्ष्मणः Lakshmana, आश्रमपदम् at the hermitage, प्रविश्य entered, अगस्त्यशिष्यम् disciple of Agastya, आसाद्य met, एतत् all this, वाक्यम् words, उवाच ह said.

Meaning

Lakshmana, the younger brother of Rama, entered the hermitage of Agastya and met one of his disciples and said to him these words :

AK-12-2Aranya Kanda 12.2

राजा दशरथो नाम ज्येष्ठस्तस्य सुतो बली। रामः प्राप्तो मुनिं द्रष्टुं भार्यया सह सीतया।।3.12.2।।

rājā daśaratho nāma jyeṣṭhastasya suto balī| rāmḥ prāpto muniṃ draṣṭuṃ bhāryayā saha sītayā||3.12.2||

Translation

दशरथो नाम called Dasaratha, राजा king, तस्य his, ज्येष्ठः सुतः eldest son, बली strong, रामः Rama, भार्यया with wife, सीतया सह accompanied by Sita, मुनिम् to the sage, द्रष्टुम् to see, पाप्तः has come.

Meaning

The valiant eldest son of king Dasaratha has come along with his wife Sita to see the sage.

AK-12-3Aranya Kanda 12.3

लक्ष्मणो नाम तस्याहं भ्राता त्ववरजो हितः। अनुकूलश्च भक्तश्च यदि ते श्रोत्रमागतः।।3.12.3।।

lakṣmaṇo nāma tasyāhṃ bhrātā tvavarajo hitḥ| anukūlaśca bhaktaśca yadi te śrotramāgatḥ||3.12.3||

Translation

अहं तु I am, तस्य his, अवरजः younger to him, लक्ष्मणो नाम Lakshmana by name, भ्राता brother, हितः wellwisher, अनुकूलश्च faithful, भक्तश्च devotee, ते श्रोत्रम् आगतः has been heard by you, यदि if at all.

Meaning

I am his younger brother Lakshmana, his wellwisher and faithful devotee if you have at all heard about me.

AK-12-4Aranya Kanda 12.4

ते वयं वनमत्युग्रं प्रविष्टाः पितृशासनात्। द्रष्टुमिच्छामहे सर्वे भगवन्तं निवेद्यताम्।।3.12.4।।

te vayṃ vanamatyugrṃ praviṣṭāḥ pitṛśāsanāt| draṣṭumicchāmahe sarve bhagavantṃ nivedyatām||3.12.4||

Translation

ते वयम् we, पितृशासनात् by the command of our father, अत्युग्रम् very dense, वनम् forest, प्रविष्टाः have entered, सर्वे all of us, भगवन्तम् divine sire, द्रष्टुम् to see, इच्छामहे desire, निवेद्यताम् it may be reported to him.

Meaning

By the command of our father, we have entered this dense forest and desire to see the divine sire. Please report.

AK-12-5Aranya Kanda 12.5

तस्य तद् वचनं श्रुत्वा लक्ष्मणस्य तपोधनः। तथेत्युक्त्वाऽग्निशरणं प्रविवेश निवेदितुम्।।3.12.5।।

tasya tad vacanṃ śrutvā lakṣmaṇasya tapodhanḥ| tathetyuktvā'gniśaraṇṃ praviveśa niveditum||3.12.5||

Translation

तपोधनः the ascetic (endowed with wealth of penance), तस्य लक्ष्मणस्य Lakshmana's, तत् वचनम् his words, श्रुत्वा having heard, तथेति let it be so, उक्त्वा said, निवेदितुम् to report, अग्निशरणम् firesanctuary प्रविवेश entered.

Meaning

The ascetic heard Lakshmana, and saying, 'let it be so', entered the firesanctuary to report.

AK-12-6Aranya Kanda 12.6

स प्रविश्य मुनिश्रेष्ठं तपसा दुष्प्रधर्षणम्। कृताञ्जलिरुवाचेदं रामागमनमञ्जसा।।3.12.6।। यथोक्तं लक्ष्मणेनैव शिष्योऽगस्त्यस्य सम्मतः।

sa praviśya muniśreṣṭhṃ tapasā duṣpradharṣaṇam| kṛtāñjaliruvācedṃ rāmāgamanamañjasā||3.12.6|| yathoktṃ lakṣmaṇenaiva śiṣyo'gastyasya sammatḥ|

Translation

अगस्त्यस्य Agastya's, सम्मतः favourite, शिष्यः disciple, सः that, अञ्जसा promptly, प्रविश्य entered, कृताञ्जलिः with folded palms, लक्ष्मणेन by Lakshmana, यथोक्तमेव as told by him, तपसा with penance, दुष्प्रधर्षणम् who can not be violated , मुनिश्रेष्ठम् the best among the ascetics, रामागमनम् about Rama 's arrival, इदम् thus, उवाच said.

Meaning

Having promptly entered, Agastya's favourite disciple with folded hands reported as he was told by Lakshmana about Rama's arrival to the great sage who was armed with the inviolable powers of penance :

AK-12-7Aranya Kanda 12.7

पुत्रौ दशरथस्येमौ रामो लक्ष्मण एव च।।3.12.7।। प्रविष्टावाश्रमपदं सीतया सह भार्यया।

putrau daśarathasyemau rāmo lakṣmaṇa eva ca||3.12.7|| praviṣṭāvāśramapadṃ sītayā saha bhāryayā|

Translation

रामः Rama, लक्ष्मण एव च Lakshmana also, दशरथस्य Dasaratha's, इमौ both, पुत्रौ sons, भार्यया with wife, सीतया सह accompanied by Sita, आश्रमपदम् to the hermitage, प्रविष्टौ entered.

Meaning

Rama and Lakshmana, the two sons of Dasaratha along with Sita, wife of Rama, have arrived at the hermitage.

AK-12-8Aranya Kanda 12.8

द्रष्टुं भवन्तमायातौ शुश्रूषार्थमरिन्दमौ।।3.12.8।। यदत्रानन्तरं तत्त्वमाज्ञापयितुमर्हसि।

draṣṭuṃ bhavantamāyātau śuśrūṣārthamarindamau||3.12.8|| yadatrānantarṃ tattvamājñāpayitumarhasi|

Translation

अरिन्दमौ subduers of enemies (Rama and Lakshmana), भवन्तम् to your Holiness, द्रष्टुम् to see, शुश्रूषार्थम् to serve, अयातौ both have come, अत्र here, यत् whatever, अनन्तरम् nexl, तत् that, त्वम् you, आज्ञापयितुम् to order, अर्हसि you may be pleased to.

Meaning

Both the subduers of enemies have come here now to see and serve your Holiness. You may order what is to be done next.

AK-12-9Aranya Kanda 12.9

ततश्शिष्यादुपश्रुत्य प्राप्तं रामं सलक्ष्मणम्।।3.12.9।। वैदेहीं च महाभागामिदं वचनमब्रवीत्।

tataśśiṣyādupaśrutya prāptṃ rāmṃ salakṣmaṇam||3.12.9|| vaidehīṃ ca mahābhāgāmidṃ vacanamabravīt|

Translation

ततः then, शिष्यात् from the disciple, सलक्ष्मणम् along with Lakshmana, रामम् Rama, प्राप्तम् arrived, उपश्रुत्य having heard, महाभागाम् great, वैदेहीं Sita, daughter of the king of Videha, च and, इदं वचनम् these words, अब्रवीत् said.

Meaning

Having heard from the disciple about the arrival of Rama, Lakshmana and great daughter of the king of Videha the sage said :

AK-12-10Aranya Kanda 12.10

दिष्ट्या रामश्चिरस्याद्य द्रष्टुं मां समुपागतः।।3.12.10।। मनसा काङ्क्षितं ह्यस्य मयाप्यागमनं प्रति।

diṣṭyā rāmaścirasyādya draṣṭuṃ māṃ samupāgatḥ||3.12.10|| manasā kāṅkṣitṃ hyasya mayāpyāgamanṃ prati|

Translation

दिष्ट्या fortunately, रामः Rama, चिरस्य after a long time, माम् me, द्रष्टुम् to see, अद्य today, समुपागतः arrived here luckily, अस्य his, आगमनं प्रति coming here, मया by me, मनसा at heart, काङ्क्षितं हि was desired indeed.

Meaning

It is good fortune that Rama has come here after a long time to see me. I was longing for his arrival.

AK-12-11Aranya Kanda 12.11

गम्यतां सत्कृतो रामस्सभार्यस्सहलक्ष्मणः।।3.12.11।। प्रवेश्यतां समीपं मे किं चासौ न प्रवेशितः।

gamyatāṃ satkṛto rāmassabhāryassahalakṣmaṇḥ||3.12.11|| praveśyatāṃ samīpṃ me kiṃ cāsau na praveśitḥ|

Translation

गम्यताम् go (quickly), सभार्यः along with his wife, सहलक्ष्मणः with Lakshmana, रामः Rama, सत्कृतः rendering due hospitality, मे my, समीपम् presence, प्रवेश्यताम् may be ushered in, असौ he, किम् why, न प्रवेशितः not brought in so far ?

Meaning

Go quickly and with due hospitality conduct Rama, his wife Sita and brother Lakshmana into my presence. Why was he not ushered in so long?

AK-12-12Aranya Kanda 12.12

एवमुक्तस्तु मुनिना धर्मज्ञेन महात्मना।। 3.12.12।। अभिवाद्याब्रवीच्छिष्यस्तथेति नियताञ्जलिः।

evamuktastu muninā dharmajñena mahātmanā|| 3.12.12|| abhivādyābravīcchiṣyastatheti niyatāñjaliḥ|

Translation

धर्मज्ञेन by the knower of rightousness, महात्मना by the great soul, मुनिना by the sage, एवम् thus, उक्तः asked, शिष्यः disciple, नियताञ्जलिः with folded palms, अभिवाद्य respectfully, तथेति ,so be it, अब्रवीत् said.

Meaning

'So be it ' said the disciple respectfully with folded palms in response to what the great sage, knower of dharma, commanded.

AK-12-13Aranya Kanda 12.13

ततो निष्क्रम्य सम्भ्रान्तश्शिष्यो लक्ष्मणमब्रवीत्।।3.12.13।। क्वासौ रामो मुनिं द्रष्टुमेतु प्रविशतु स्वयम्।

tato niṣkramya sambhrāntaśśiṣyo lakṣmaṇamabravīt||3.12.13|| kvāsau rāmo muniṃ draṣṭumetu praviśatu svayam|

Translation

ततः thereafter, शिष्यः the disciple, सम्भ्रान्तः exited, निष्क्रम्य after coming out, लक्ष्मणम् Lakshmana, अब्रवीत् said, असौ he, रामः Rama, क्व where is he?, मुनिम् sage, द्रष्टुम् to see, एतु he may come, स्वयम् himself, प्रविशतु let him come in.

Meaning

Then the disciple in a state of excitement came out of the hermitage and said to Lakshmana, 'Where is Rama? Let him come himself to see the sage'.

AK-12-14Aranya Kanda 12.14

ततो गत्वाऽऽश्रमपदं शिष्येण सह लक्ष्मणः।। 3.12.14।। दर्शयामास काकुत्स्थं सीतां च जनकात्मजाम्।

tato gatvā''śramapadṃ śiṣyeṇa saha lakṣmaṇḥ|| 3.12.14|| darśayāmāsa kākutsthṃ sītāṃ ca janakātmajām|

Translation

ततः then, लक्ष्मणः Lakshmana, शिष्येण सह along with the disciple, आश्रमद्वारम् entrance of the hermitage, गत्वा after reaching, काकुत्स्थम् Rama of the Kakutstha family, जनकात्मजाम् daughter of Janaka, सीतां च Sita also, दर्शयामास showed.

Meaning

Then Lakshmana reached the entrance of the hermitage with the disciple and showed Rama of the Kakutstha race and Sita, daughter of Janaka .

AK-12-15Aranya Kanda 12.15

तं शिष्यः प्रश्रितो वाक्यमगस्त्यवचनं ब्रुवन्।।3.12.15।। प्रावेशयद्यथान्यायं सत्कारार्हं सुसत्कृतम्।

tṃ śiṣyḥ praśrito vākyamagastyavacanṃ bruvan||3.12.15|| prāveśayadyathānyāyṃ satkārārhṃ susatkṛtam|

Translation

शिष्यः disciple, प्रश्रितः most obediently, अगस्त्यवचनम् Agastya's words, वाक्यम् utterance, ब्रुवन् while informing, सत्कारार्हम् one who deserved hospitality, सुसत्कृम् treating with respect, तम् him, यथान्याम् in an appropriate way, प्रावेशयत् ushered in.

Meaning

The disciple humbly reported Agastya's words and ushered him in with befitting hospitality.

AK-12-16Aranya Kanda 12.16

प्रविवेश ततो रामस्सीतया सहलक्ष्मणः।।3.12.16।। प्रशान्तहरिणाकीर्णमाश्रमं ह्यवलोकयन्।

praviveśa tato rāmassītayā sahalakṣmaṇḥ||3.12.16|| praśāntahariṇākīrṇamāśramṃ hyavalokayan|

Translation

ततः then, रामः Rama, सीतया with Sita, सहलक्ष्मणः and with Lakshmana, प्रशान्तहरिणाकीर्णम् full of quietly moving deer, आश्रमम् hermitage, अवलोकयन् observing, प्रविवेश entered.

Meaning

Then Rama, Sita and Lakshmana entered the hermitage, watching herds of quietly moving deer (undisturbed by their entry).

AK-12-17Aranya Kanda 12.17

स तत्र ब्रह्मणः स्थानमग्नेः स्थानं तथैव च।।3.12.17।। विष्णोः स्थानं महेन्द्रस्य स्थानं चैव विवस्वतः। सोमस्थानं भगस्थानं स्थानं कौबेरमेव च।।3.12.18।। दातुर्विधातुः स्थानेच वायोः स्थानं तथैव च। नागराजस्य च स्थानमनन्तस्य महात्मनः।।3.12.19।। स्थानं तथैव गायत्र्या वसूनां स्थानमेव च। स्थानं च पाशहस्तस्य वरुणस्य महात्मनः।।3.12.20।। कार्तिकेयस्य च स्थानं धर्मस्थानं च पश्यति।

sa tatra brahmaṇḥ sthānamagneḥ sthānṃ tathaiva ca||3.12.17|| viṣṇoḥ sthānṃ mahendrasya sthānṃ caiva vivasvatḥ| somasthānṃ bhagasthānṃ sthānṃ kauberameva ca||3.12.18|| dāturvidhātuḥ sthāneca vāyoḥ sthānṃ tathaiva ca| nāgarājasya ca sthānamanantasya mahātmanḥ||3.12.19|| sthānṃ tathaiva gāyatryā vasūnāṃ sthānameva ca| sthānṃ ca pāśahastasya varuṇasya mahātmanḥ||3.12.20|| kārtikeyasya ca sthānṃ dharmasthānṃ ca paśyati|

Translation

सः he, तत्र there, ब्रह्मणः Brahma, स्थानम् place, तथैव च similarly, अग्नेः Fire's, स्थानम् place, विष्णोः Visnu's, स्थानम् place, तथा so also, इन्द्रस्य Indra's, विवस्वतः Sun's, स्थानं चैव place too, सोमस्थानम् Moon's place, भगस्थानम् place of Bhaga (one of the twelve forms of the Sun), कौबेरम् Kubera's, स्थानमेव च place too, धातुः Supreme Spirit, विधातुः the Creator's, स्थाने च place too, तथैव च ल like that, वायोः windgod's, स्थानम् place, नागराजस्य serpent king's, महात्मनः great soul's, अनन्तस्य Ananta's, स्थानम् place, तथैव like that, गायत्र्याः Gayatri's, स्थानम् place, वसूनाम् of Vasu's, स्थानमेव च place also, पाशहस्तस्य Pasahasta's(one who holds the noose in his hand to pull and punish the mortals), महात्मनः of the great soul, वरुणस्य water god Varuna's, स्थानं च place too, कार्तिकेयस्य Kartikeya's, स्थानं च place too, धर्मस्थानं च place of dharma, पश्यति he saw.

Rama saw at the hermitage, the places (altars) of Brahma, Visnu, Agni (firegod), Indra, Sun, Moon, Bhaga, Kubera, Dhata (supreme spirit), Vidhata (creator Brahman), Vayu (Windgod), Ananta (great serpentking), Gayatri, Vasu Pasahasta, Varuna, Kartikeya and Dharma .

AK-12-21Aranya Kanda 12.21

ततश्शिष्यैः परिवृतो मुनिरप्यभिनिष्पतत्।।3.12.21।। तं ददर्शाग्रतो रामो मुनीनां दीप्ततेजसाम्।

tataśśiṣyaiḥ parivṛto munirapyabhiniṣpatat||3.12.21|| tṃ dadarśāgrato rāmo munīnāṃ dīptatejasām|

Translation

ततः thereafter, शिष्यैः by disciples, परिवृतः surrounded by, मुनिरपि sage also, अभिनिष्पतत् approaching, रामः Rama, दीप्ततेजसाम् shinnig brightly among them, मुनीनाम् of the sages, अग्रतः in the forefront, तम् him, ददर्श saw.

Meaning

Thereafter surrounded by the disciples the sage came out. Rama saw him coming in front of the effulgent sages.

AK-12-22-23Aranya Kanda 12.22–23 (युग्मम्)

अब्रवीद्वचनं वीरो लक्ष्मणं लक्ष्मिवर्धनम्। 3.12.22।। एष लक्ष्मण निष्क्रामत्यगस्त्यो भगवानृषिः। औदार्येणावगच्छामि निधानं तपसामिमम्।। 3.12.23।।

abravīdvacanṃ vīro lakṣmaṇṃ lakṣmivardhanam| 3.12.22|| eṣa lakṣmaṇa niṣkrāmatyagastyo bhagavānṛṣiḥ| audāryeṇāvagacchāmi nidhānṃ tapasāmimam|| 3.12.23||

Translation

वीरः hero, लक्ष्मिवर्धनम् augmenter of prosperity, लक्ष्मणम् to Lakshmana, वचनम् words, अब्रवीत् said, लक्ष्मण O Lakshmana, भगवान् glorious, एषः this person, अगस्त्यः Agastya, ऋषिः sage, निष्क्रामति is coming here, औदार्येण by nobility, इमम् him, तपसाम् of penance, निधानम् a treasuretrove, अवगच्छामि I understand.

Meaning

The valiant Rama said to Lakshmana, the enhancer of prosperity, O Lakshmana, sage Agastya is coming out. By virtue of his noble appearance, I know this sage to be a great treasuretrove of penances.

AK-12-24Aranya Kanda 12.24

एवमुक्त्वा महाबाहुरगस्त्यं सूर्यवर्चसम्। जग्राह परमप्रीतस्तस्य पादौ परन्तपः।।3.12.24।।

evamuktvā mahābāhuragastyṃ sūryavarcasam| jagrāha paramaprītastasya pādau parantapḥ||3.12.24||

Translation

महाबाहुः one with mighty arms, परन्तपः scorcher of enemies, सूर्यवर्चसम् shining like the Sun, अगस्त्यस्य Agastya's, एवम् in that way, उक्त्वा having said, परमप्रीतः with great pleasure, तस्य his, पादौ feet, जग्राह grasped.

Meaning

Having said so, the mightyarmed Rama, the scorcher of enemies, grasped the feet of Agastya who was shining like the Sun.

AK-12-25Aranya Kanda 12.25

अभिवाद्य तु धर्मात्मा तस्थौ रामः कृताञ्जलिः। सीतया सह वैदेह्या तदा रामः सलक्ष्मणः।।3.12.25।।

abhivādya tu dharmātmā tasthau rāmḥ kṛtāñjaliḥ| sītayā saha vaidehyā tadā rāmḥ salakṣmaṇḥ||3.12.25||

Translation

तदा then, धर्मात्मा righteous self, रामः Rama, वैदेह्या with princess of Videha, सीतया with Sita, सलक्ष्मणः and with Lakshmana, अभिवाद्य having offered respects, कृताज्ञलिः with folded palms, तस्थौ stood.

Meaning

Then righteous Rama with Sita, the princess of Videha, and Lakshmana offered respects with folded palmsstanding.

AK-12-26Aranya Kanda 12.26

प्रतिजग्राह काकुत्स्थमर्चयित्वासनोदकैः। कुशलप्रश्नमुक्त्वा च आस्यतामिति चाब्रवीत्।। 3.12.26।।

pratijagrāha kākutsthamarcayitvāsanodakaiḥ| kuśalapraśnamuktvā ca āsyatāmiti cābravīt|| 3.12.26||

Translation

आसनोदकैः seat and water, अर्चयित्वा honouring, काकुत्स्थम् to Rama (Kakutstha), प्रतिजग्राह received, कुशलप्रश्नम् made enquiries of his welfare, उक्त्वा said, आस्यताम् be seated, इति च these words, अब्रवीत् said.

Meaning

Agastya received Rama by offering him seat and water, enquired about his wellbeing and said: Please be seated,

AK-12-27Aranya Kanda 12.27

अग्निं हुत्वा प्रदायार्घ्यमतिथीन् प्रतिपूज्य च। वानप्रस्थ्येन धर्मेण स तेषां भोजनं ददौ।। 3.12.27।।

agniṃ hutvā pradāyārghyamatithīn pratipūjya ca| vānaprasthyena dharmeṇa sa teṣāṃ bhojanṃ dadau|| 3.12.27||

Translation

सः he, अग्निम् fire, हुत्वा after offering oblations, अर्घ्यम् water etc, प्रदाय after providing, अतिथीन् guests, प्रतिपूज्य च after worshipping, वानप्रस्थेन according to hermit's, धर्मेण tradition, तेषाम् to them, भोजनम् food, ददौ gave.

Meaning

After giving oblations to the fire, and providing respectful offerings, the sage worshipped the guests according to the tradition of hermits and served them food.

AK-12-28Aranya Kanda 12.28

प्रथमं चोपविश्याथ धर्मज्ञो मुनिपुङ्गवः। उवाच राममासीनं प्राञ्जलिं धर्मकोविदम्।।3.12.28।।

prathamṃ copaviśyātha dharmajño munipuṅgavḥ| uvāca rāmamāsīnṃ prāñjaliṃ dharmakovidam||3.12.28||

Translation

अथ and then, धर्मज्ञः the knower of dharma, मुनिपुङ्गवः great among the sages, प्रथमम् first, उपविश्य after sitting, आसीनम् seated, प्राञ्जलिम् one with folded palms, धर्मकोविदम् knower of dharma, रामम् to Rama, उवाच said.

Meaning

And then the great sage Agastya, knower of dharma first took his seat and addressed Rama, an export in the knowledge of dharma, seated with folded palms.

AK-12-29Aranya Kanda 12.29

अग्निं हुत्वा प्रदायार्घ्यमतिथिं प्रतिपूजयेत्। अन्यथा खलु काकुत्स्थ तपस्वी समुदाचरन्।।3.12.29।। दुःसाक्षीव परे लोके स्वानि मांसानि भक्षयेत्।

agniṃ hutvā pradāyārghyamatithiṃ pratipūjayet| anyathā khalu kākutstha tapasvī samudācaran||3.12.29|| duḥsākṣīva pare loke svāni māṃsāni bhakṣayet|

Translation

अग्निम् fire, हुत्वा after making an offering, अर्घ्यम् water, प्रदाय after providing, अतिथिम् guest, प्रतिपूजयेत् should worship, काकुत्स्थ O Rama, अन्यथा otherwise, समुदाचरन् by adopting, तपस्वी the sage, दुःसाक्षीव like a false witness, परे लोके in other world, स्वानि his own, मांसानि flesh, भक्षयेत् will have to eat.

Meaning

O scion of the Kakutstha dynasty, only after offering oblations to the Firegod, a guest should be worshipped with water etc. Otherwise the host will have to eat his own flesh in the other world like a false witness.

AK-12-30Aranya Kanda 12.30

राजा सर्वस्य लोकस्य धर्मचारी महारथः।।3.12.30।। पूजनीयश्च मान्यश्च भवान् प्राप्तः प्रियातिथिः।

rājā sarvasya lokasya dharmacārī mahārathḥ||3.12.30|| pūjanīyaśca mānyaśca bhavān prāptḥ priyātithiḥ|

Translation

सर्वस्य लोकस्य in all the worlds, राजा king, धर्मचारी follower of dharma, महारथः great warrior, पूजनीयश्च one worthy of worship, मान्यश्च esteemed self, भवान् you, प्रियातिथिः a dear guest, प्राप्तः have come to me.

Meaning

You are king of all the worlds, a follower of dharma, a great warrior worthy of worship and an esteemed self. O Rama you are such a dear guest come to me.

AK-12-31Aranya Kanda 12.31

एवमुक्त्वा फलैर्मूलैः पुष्पैरन्यैश्च राघवम्।। 3.12.31।। पूजयित्वा यथाकामं पुनरेव ततोऽब्रवीत्।

evamuktvā phalairmūlaiḥ puṣpairanyaiśca rāghavam|| 3.12.31|| pūjayitvā yathākāmṃ punareva tato'bravīt|

Translation

एवम् like this, उक्त्वा having said, राघवम् to Rama, फलैः with fruits, मूलैः with roots, पुष्पैः with flowers, अन्यैश्च with other things, यथाकामम् as he desired, पूजयित्वा after worshipping, ततः thereafter, पुनरेव again, अब्रवीत् said.

Meaning

Having said this to Rama, (the sage) honoured him by offering fruits, roots, flowers and other things as desired. He then said to Rama once again:

AK-12-32-33Aranya Kanda 12.32–33 (युग्मम्)

इदं दिव्यं महच्चापं हेमरत्नविभूषितम्।।3.12.32।। वैष्णवं पुरुषव्याघ्र निर्मितं विश्वकर्मणा। अमोघस्सूर्यसङ्काशो ब्रह्मदत्तश्शरोत्तमः।।3.12.33।।

idṃ divyṃ mahaccāpṃ hemaratnavibhūṣitam||3.12.32|| vaiṣṇavṃ puruṣavyāghra nirmitṃ viśvakarmaṇā| amoghassūryasaṅkāśo brahmadattaśśarottamḥ||3.12.33||

Translation

पुरुषव्याघ्र O tiger among men, हेमरत्नविभूषितम् adorned with gold and gems, दिव्यम् divine, महत् great, इदं चापम् this bow, वैष्णवम् belongs to Visnu, विश्वकर्मणा by Visvakarma, निर्मितम् designed, सूर्यसङ्काशः glittering like the Sun, अमोघः unfailing, शरोत्तमः best of arrows, ब्रह्मदत्तः given by Brahma.

Meaning

O best among men this divine bow studded with gold and gems belongs to Visnu and designed by Visvakarma. This excellent, unfailing arrow, bright like the Sun, was given to me by Brahma.

AK-12-34Aranya Kanda 12.34

दत्तौ मम महेन्द्रेण तूणी चाक्षयसायकौ। सम्पूर्णौ निशितैर्बाणैर्ज्वलद्भिरिव पावकैः।।3.12.34।। महारजतकोशोऽयमसिर्हेमविभूषितः।

dattau mama mahendreṇa tūṇī cākṣayasāyakau| sampūrṇau niśitairbāṇairjvaladbhiriva pāvakaiḥ||3.12.34|| mahārajatakośo'yamasirhemavibhūṣitḥ|

Translation

अक्षयसायकौ with inexhaustible arrows, निशितैः sharp ones, ज्वलद्भि: burning, पावकैरिव like fire, बाणैः with arrows, सम्पूर्णौ filled, तूणी quiver, मम to me, महेन्द्रेण by Indra, दत्तौ were given, महारजतकोशः a big silver sheath, अयम् this, हेमविभूषितः adorned with gold.

Meaning

These two quivers filled fully with sharp inexhaustible arrows, shining like flames of fire and this sword adorned with gold and this big silver sheath were given to me by Indra.

AK-12-35Aranya Kanda 12.35

अनेन धनुषा राम हत्वा संख्ये महासुरान्।।3.12.35।। आजहार श्रियं दीप्तां पुरा विष्णुर्दिवौकसाम्।

anena dhanuṣā rāma hatvā sṃkhye mahāsurān||3.12.35|| ājahāra śriyṃ dīptāṃ purā viṣṇurdivaukasām|

Translation

राम O Rama, पुरा in the past, विष्णुः Visnu, सङ्ख्ये in the battle, अनेन धनुषा with this bow, महासुरान् great demons, हत्वा killing, दिवौकसाम् for the gods, दीप्ताम् shining, श्रियम् prosperity, आजहार earned.

Meaning

In ancient times Visnu killed the demons in a battle with this bow and brought back the glittering prosperity for the gods.

AK-12-36Aranya Kanda 12.36

तद्धनुस्तौ च तूणीरौ शरं खङ्गं च मानद।। 3.12.36।। जयाय प्रतिगृह्णीष्व वज्रं वज्रधरो यथा।

taddhanustau ca tūṇīrau śarṃ khaṅgṃ ca mānada|| 3.12.36|| jayāya pratigṛhṇīṣva vajrṃ vajradharo yathā|

Translation

मानद O Rama, bestower of honour, तत् that, धनुः bow, तौ both, तूणीरौ quivers, शरम् arrow, खङ्गं च sword, वज्रधरः Indra the wielder of the thunderbolt, वज्रं यथा as his thunderbolt, जयाय to win, प्रतिगृह्णीष्व you may please accept.

Meaning

O bestower of honour, receive this bow, the two quivers, the sword and the arrow for your victory just like Indra accepts the thunderbolt.

AK-12-37Aranya Kanda 12.37

एवमुक्त्वा महातेजाः समस्तं तद्वरायुधम्। दत्वा रामाय भगवानगस्त्यः पुनरब्रवीत्।।3.12.37।।

evamuktvā mahātejāḥ samastṃ tadvarāyudham| datvā rāmāya bhagavānagastyḥ punarabravīt||3.12.37||

Translation

महातेजा: luminous , भगवान् lord, अगस्त्यः Agastya, एवम् in that way, उक्त्वा having said, समस्तम् everything, तत् that, वरायुधम् excellent weapons, रामाय to Rama, दत्वा having given, पुनः again, अब्रवीत् said.

Meaning

The luminous lord Agastya, having said this, gave all the excellent weapons to Rama. And continued : इत्यार्षे श्रीमद्रामायणे वाल्मीकीय आदिकाव्ये अरण्यकाण्डे द्वादशस्सर्गः।। Thus ends the twelfth sarga of Aranyakanda of the holy Ramayana the first epic composed by sage Valmiki.
